What is exactly the difference between Clockwork Mod recovery and Amon_RA's? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Are there any differences between them?
If so, which would you prefer?
Thank you.

I use ClockworkMod for the sole reason that it is the recovery used by ROM Manager.

Up until today I couldn't see a difference and I was using Anon RA or whatever, but I tried flashing two roms this morning and received an error on each one and couldn't flash, but clockwork was able to. Not sure if it's a good thing or bad thing yet.
Will be following this thread...

ok... i mean really. did u really think this thread deserves to be in the development section and not the Q&A section? please post in the correct forum. i move 10+ of these threads daily. it is obvious that all u were posting was a question. what better place to post a question then in the Q&A section?!
please post in the correct forums and use the search function before posting a new thread. on that same note u can always go into the thread (in this case amon recovery or clockwork recovery threads) and ask the question.

I posted there for this exact reason.
Look, you moved this a couple of hours ago and still have no response.
Also, I have read the threads and couldn't figure out the difference. Evertime someone asked their post was ignored.
Sorry for the headache though.. but the results are far less here.

Well post in the proper thread and u are likely to get results. Either way ur thread has been moved to this section as this is where it belongs.

Clockwork mod will be supported by a single click install being developed by unrevoked. Promises to be a "run a binary" with code that does adb things, on any of three prevalent platforms.
Here's a teaser.

I use Amon_Ra on the Hero. It's great.

Okay, so other than that are there any other real advantages?
I like Clockwork right now as it works with ROM Manager and in the near future unrEVOked as well. Seems like all the updates come to this first.

ClockworkMod Recovery Files?

Where can I download the Clockwork Mod Recovery installation files? All the links I've found appear to be dead:
droidaftermarket.com/koush/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-supersonic.img
droidaftermarket.com/koush//recoveries/flash_image
download ROM manager from the market and try installing it through the app...
if it fails for some reason the img file for the recovery is in /sdcard/clockworkmod/download/www.droidaftermarket.com/koush/recoveries
Thanks! It worked like a charm!

The mods can very easily restrict the Evo Dev forum to more senior members, and have chosen not to. Flyertalk.com has several forums hidden/locked in this way.
Perhaps you should contact the local XDA mods, directly?

High post count ≠ good forum etiquette.
Just as an alternate viewpoint... why was this a ridiculous thread? I had an issue yesterday where I couldn't get Rom manager to flash clockwork. I didn't know where the files were located, I would have loved to have been able to flash clockwork manually, as opposed to wipe-restore-wipe-restore until I got Rom manager to work. We are not all hackers, I wasn't writing Linux at 9 (or 29). But I shouldn't have to be interning at Google to take advantage of these forums, and who better to ask where they put the files than the devs who write the code. Maybe this belongs in q and a, but it isn't ridiculous and junior members shouldn't be barred from posting. If we were all devs then no one would be supporting or donating, we would just do it ourselves. And if noobs couldn't ask questions, they would forever remain noobs.

Maybe not, but at least most folks with 75 posts would know not to put a crap thread like this, in Dev.
Besides, Flyertalk uses a post + age method to disable write access to sensitive forums.

[Q] Can't Flash Custom ROMs

I got my Desire today and rooted it using Unrevoked. I tried flashing a couple ROMs and I keep getting Status 7 errors, something about bravo, I dunno. I tried flashing different radios then the ROMs again, still no luck. Any advice?
Is this because it's CDMA? I'm confused if it is. Is there a ton of GSM ROMs and very few CDMA ones or something? And why isn't there a CDMA section if so?
Well, that was the case. Got a CDMA CM 7 ROM to run. Back to the other two questions I posted above.
Please don't post the same question in multiple posts
Try searching list of cdma roms
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
I didn't? I said I figured out my problem and then said I would like my previous questions answered.

Yea, I got no replies there and thought this would be a more correct place to post it. Are you intentionally trying to come off as an ass? Please don't come in my thread posting off-topic stuff that does not help me in any way. Thanks.
In any way other than your edit telling me to search.
So pointing you to a list of CDMA roms was not helping you?

Yea, you give me that list after you edited. Before that all you were doing is being an ass.
1. I did search, here and all over Google. Nothing directly answered the question as to why I was getting the Status 7.
2. I doubt it's a problem that I posted that in that thread and then decided this would be a better place to post. It didn't harm anyone. Unnecessary clutter is what you're doing.

MOD EDIT: BEFORE POSTING ANY THREAD IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
It is NOT the place to post your question because it gets higher traffic, or because more experienced users frequent it. Doing this just annoys those who are working on the device, and drives them away. Developers don't want to wade through 20 threads of "Help me urgently" to find their threads for porting and fixing camera issues etc. Similarly, if a thread is designated as discussion for developers say, porting a camera fix, please do not post in there asking "When will it be ready?", "Can I flash this yet?" etc. This is both completely disrespectful to those working on the project (you evidently haven't read the important posts in the thread), and also is making it harder for developers to find comments from other developers or testers when required.
Similarly, don't make loads of "Thanks for your work here" posts in an active development thread. It's just as annoying to developers as asking when something will be ready. If a ROM is complete, then go ahead and thank the developer if you wish, but don't go into threads for devs only, and interrupt it to post "thanks". It's basically spamming, and is treated as such.
If you are posting in development, you should have read every sticky and notice there, and should be actively developing or helping in the development of something. Developing isn't installing a ROM, or using a tweak, it's creating a ROM or other hack or tweak. If you haven't read for several days before starting out on XDA, you are likely about to ask something already solved. I registered on XDA when I first wanted to post, and that was to join in a discussion on something. Sure, join up and ask a question, but read the information available in General and Q&A first, as your question will have been asked before. Search is your friend here, become familiar with it.
Regarding when to post in development if you are not actually developing something, there is one occasion where it's acceptable. If you find a leak of a new ROM, which isn't already posted, and you verify it's legitimacy via either running it, or based on the source you obtained it from, then this is assisting in development, and should be posted in development. If you want to ask when a leak will be available use search first, then if not already in discussion, open a thread in general or Q&A.
If you have a problem flashing a ROM, this is NOT related to development. It's up to you to determine if it is specific to a particular ROM, and post useful information in that developer's existing thread for the ROM. If it happens on more than one ROM, and isn't a known issue (remember you should read several times more words than you post), then find out what you are doing wrong. Check guides written by others, try to repeat the problem and see if it happens every time. Something needs to be reproducible to be fixed effectively.
Once you have identified what you need help with go to the device Q&A forum (general if device lacks one), and make a clear, informative thread that explains the issue, and what you have tried doing to fix it. Did you re-download the ROM? Did you ask a friend to flash it for you, to reduce chance of user error? What steps (exactly) did you follow? What errors did you see (exact wording)? Did you double check all the steps? Did you do a wipe or hard reset?
If you make a clear, concise, yet detailed post, you will find help forthcoming, and should get the problem sorted very quickly. If someone suggests you try something, report back on what happened, did it work etc. Then, next time someone has this issue and searches, they will find this and have a verified and tested solution.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?

How do I reflash the One V stock rom?

Hi,
since my phone has caught some error I want to completly reset it. I can not reset it to factory defaults, since it crashes before. So I just want to reflash the stock ROM, my HTC One V came with (oh, and I do not have the file, which is an unbranded German stock ROM, it shipped with). How can I do that? All I find on the webs is how to flash custom roms and too the device. Mine is not rooted. Thanks.
Hi, please search before creating a new thread. Chances are, you question already exists, with answers. Also, when creating a thread, please post in the, correct, subforum.

[Q] verizon m7 sense 6 update caused root failure on weaksauce plz halp me justincase

What's going on xda? I wanted to post this in the developer forum, so that possibly Ya know, a developer would see it and read it but the site said "no" so I have to post here. I had my phone rooted with weaksauce I was gonna go all out and unlock the boot loader and s-off but weaksauce made it so easy to have root access I was pretty satisfied with just that for a little while at least. Then I got an update Download from Verizon. I pressed where it said update now. I was curious. I'm sorry, anyway now I have the Verizon version of sense 6.0 and weaksauce shows me root failure when it runs. It's been like this for quite some time now and I've been searching around for any info on it but I'm the only person who has made a post about it so far. Other people also have this problem, I made a post on android forums and many others are sharing the same issue. Developers please. Let me know if you share the problem or know the solution or if you are currently working on the solution because I am getting slightly impatient. Thanks
Why not post this in Verizon HTC ONE forum? There you will receive more help.

If it was actually that simple I would have already done that. I have a VERIZON m7. Weaksauce was the only root method I tried that worked, so it's not that I'm too lazy to search around for the correct thread, it's that that correct thread doesn't exist yet so I just keep making threads on different android forums until I flood the internet with my words and someone finally notices.

Whats Going on? What is going on is that you really didnt pay attention to the rules when you joined. Had you then you would know why you cant post in the Dev forums. You would also know that had you posted this in the dev forums, it would have been deleted on site.
Now I am gonna move this to the proper device forums and advise you to take another look at the rules before you post again.
Basically, you are SOL until Firewater/Weaksauce/Towelroot is made to work on our latest OTA.
Had you run Firewater when you had root, prior to updating, you would have been able to update and retain s-off and root.
Since you didn't, you are now stuck without root until/when/if an updated method/exploit is posted.

Your thread got answered after it was moved to the right place, so that mod with "a false sense of entitlement" is the only reason you got a accurate reply.
Your call, but a bit of appreciation for those who keep this site running and volunteer to help is never a bad thing. Running a site of this size is not an easy task.

Wow so let me get this straight. You come to a development sight and want to ask a question? Tthen you post in the wrong section so you get the least amount of answers. So not only does a mod come along and move it to the proper place so you have a chance of getting an answer, but tells you where you messed up instead of just deleting your post. So you proceed to call names and insult me? Then break the rules again. Well how about this. The next time you decide to insult someone you will be banned from the site and then you be stuck with what ever simple minded questions you may have. Take this as your only warning. I would normally just remove you from the site for good but I am in a good mood today so I will let this one slide.
