[Q] Kernel 2.6.32 ? - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I think kernel 2.6.32 sports high memory and 2.6.29 only 256 so if we upgrade our kernel to 2.6.32 we should have 512 instead of 256 right? But my question is will the 2.6.32 kernel work with 2.1??

Re: Kernel 2.6.32 ?
I think what he's saying is how efficiently it allocates the memory.

I don't see why not. CM is already running 2.6.33.4 on the G1's. Actually, I'd prefer that kernal.

That makes two of us

i think Eugene was working on getting a custom Boot.img to load properly last i heard he had one running not sure if he used the stock img and customized or if he was trying a CM img

It seems silly to me to include more memory then the phone can actually USE due to software limitations.

[Q] Gingerbread Kernels that Support OC/UV

Hi there, I'm running Oxygen 2.1.6. on my Desire, and I'm trying to squeeze a little bit more out of my battery, and owning a Galaxy S as well, with the Galaxy, there are Kernels that Support OC/UV.
I'm wondering if there are any good kernels for Oxygen 2.1.6 (Gingerbread) that support OC/UV Thanks.
snq- 0.6 kernel supports oc/uv I think

I saw those, but I'm unfamiliar with how to flash these files. I'm used to having a zip file to either flash in CWM, or in Odin ( which the desire doesn't use)
The files in SNQ's are Z-images and .ko's...
I'm more familiar with the more n00b way of flashing kernels :X terribly sorry.

That is a Sense kernel. It is sometimes better not to write anything than to post an erroneous info. And furthermore, uv doesn't work properly with it.

What more do you want from Oxygen? Thalamus kernel supports both uvoc and is probably most efficient kernel as is.
Flash newest oxygen with newest kernel. And I am pretty sure, you will be very happy it. I tested many rom/kernel combinations with software like setcpu und low-voltage-scripts. With oxygen I only reduced maximal cpu frequeny to 768 mhz and min 245 mhz with the included cpu controller and do not get a worse battery life with other roms.
Nice, I'll give it a test. Thanks

[KERNEL] cifs module for 4.0.3 AOSP kernels

I am about to test this on the aosp rom
i've compiled with the latest kernel source it should work in any stock 4.0.3 kernel

I have CIFS+UTF-8 enabled by default on all of my kernels if you want to try...
this module is for anyone who does not want to run a custom kernel
it is built off the latest source released by google for ics 4.0.3 on the gnexus
but i'll give your kernel a go for fun
Don't forget that to load/insert a module, one needs root access.
/me sent this on a i9250 using tapatalk
Don't you need the slow-work.ko compiled for 4.0.3 as well, to make things like CIFSManager work?
Jason
Will this trash battery life? If I remember correctly, Franco removed it from his kernal because it hosed the battery.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Yes!
Hope to have nls_utf8.ko to support any non-english char as well!
I've never had an issue with cifs killing battery life...
also note, franco compiled the cifs functionality INTO the kernel not as a loadable module
you can simply rmmod cifs to remove it from the kernel.
im not sure how he determined cifs was the culprit it seems very strange.
What is the practical application for this? I'm not hating on it, just curious what people are using this for. Can you mount SMB/CIFS shares in the file system this way?
yes
this module allows you to cifs/smb mount shares on your phone
This module won't work. It has to be built against the kernel to get the same magic number. Try and insmod it on i.e. Franco, and do a dmesg.

It only works with the stock aosp kernel not with fanco kernel or any other custom kernel ofcourse.....
Is there anywhere that I could get a 4.0.2 version of cifs.ko?

Nikez Lente & Kernel

Hello all,
First of all, sorry for posting in the wrong forum, but I cannot post in the development one, so forgive me.
I have a question for all of you:
I have installed on my HTC Desire the Nikez Lente Evervol JB ROM, which is great.
I really like it, even if there are few bugs and random FC.
I've used CM7.2 for a long time before to switch to JB.
I don't miss CM (sorry for that), but I really miss Tiamat Kernel I installed within it, which helped me overclock and underclock my processor, changing also the voltage.
With Nikez Lente JB original kernel this is not possible, I tried to install Tiamat Kernel for ICS but the phone cannot boot anymore, I'm stuck to initial black screen.
So I went back to the original Nikez Kernel.
Unfortunately this kernel seems do not allow "extreme" overclock as Tiamat does, and do not allow the user to change the voltage table.
I would really like to have these features back on my JB installation, is it possible?
Is there a kernel which can work with Nikez JB ROM and can give me back the features I'd like to have?
Moreover: can you explain why the Tiamat ICS kernel (for Bravo GSM) does not work with both Nikez Lente ROMs (ICS & JB)? Am I making something wrong?
My phone is a PVT-1 Amoled, S-OFFed qith Revolutionary, the HBOOT is the Alpharev Stock one, The recovery is CWM 5.0.2.0, I have a 32Gb SD card with 1 Gb ext3 sd-ext partition.
What else can I say?
Thank you very much in advance.
Regards,
Giovanni
Yes it is possible.
But probably you have to wait.
Evervolv team (nikez included) are working on jb and probably when all features will be working they add some mod in kernel that will let you OC CPU.

Did you check/compare the kernel configs? One of the CM wiki pages about building the kernel describes howto access the config - or check the git repos, evervolv has the file somewhere in arch/asm, it is called bravodefconfig IIRC
Maybe a device or filesystem driver is missing

Almost, it's located in arch/arm/configs/evervolv_bravodefconfig

[q] kernel for desire stock roms????

Can you update your kernel while you are on stock ROM?
Sorry for question if not good... I am new to android ..
Thanks & Regards
the newest kernel is 2.6.38.8:angel:
Huh? I'm pretty sure HTC's kernel is 2.6.35
I think you can flash other kernels as long you're rooted and have custom recovery.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk 2
Yeah 2.6.38.8 is the newest, but since HTC doesn't support more updates for the Desire I think erklat must be right and the stock kernel must be older than 2.6.38.8. Maybe he is right with 2.6.35. Haven't googled on that

[Q]increase ram problem on 4.4 KK

Uhh well, last night I just update to android 4.4 but I wonder I can't use swapit ram expander, and it says like this attachment,or got any way to increase ram on 4.4? sry for my bad english.
I think because of the kernel. kernel doesn't have swap support. Moreover, you may use khan kernel. I recommend its 362 mb ram version.
you can find the khan kernel in this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593327
hrinfrnlmjsty's right, the current kernels don't have SD swap.
Oh thx guys i will try later.:good:
Uhh well i were update the kernal already but it also sayimg same things as well, but what's means of hard ware lock?
