[q] kernel for desire stock roms???? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can you update your kernel while you are on stock ROM?
Sorry for question if not good... I am new to android ..
Thanks & Regards

the newest kernel is 2.6.38.8:angel:

Huh? I'm pretty sure HTC's kernel is 2.6.35
I think you can flash other kernels as long you're rooted and have custom recovery.

Yeah 2.6.38.8 is the newest, but since HTC doesn't support more updates for the Desire I think erklat must be right and the stock kernel must be older than 2.6.38.8. Maybe he is right with 2.6.35. Haven't googled on that

I think mike, the maker of Android Revolution HD, had something on his thread regarding a custom kernel in the making. But I believe that will be for his rom ARHD 4.0.
Im also running coredroid v5.1 and im using the newest radio, 26.08.04.07_m3 and it seems to be pretty good. I think you should give it a shot, and you can always switch back if it does not work out.
We need the source files for the kernel from HTC before any custom kernels can be made. The source files will be released some time after the official gingerbread updates have been released.
Edit: You might also want to try the search function before you start a new thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025335

Okej I will try it out & see how it works out..
But is there anyone who knowes where it comes from???
In the radio thread it say that it´s not fully tested and so on...
have U hade any problems with it??
Until HTC release their official Gingerbread OTA, i do not think there will be any custom'ed GB Kernels yet but now we just have a "prototype" one. As usual.. we have to wait. Im not sure about myself too.. would prefer to receive some comments too. =)

I saw this rom a while ago on the Desire forum.
Is this rom ok to flash ( i would presume not)?
I would also assume that it would need to be rooted, busybox, smartass etc.

we need kernel sources to be released by htc
i think that tytung is not working with sense roms, only with aosp and cyanogenmod ones

[Q] which ROM - need 2-way recording, no ads, and 2.3.4, with HTC sense

question - which is most error free rom that has 2-way recording, ads free, and has current Gingerbread built.
sorry for asking this.. rather than searching, I do not know much, but there isn't a direct thread saying this is all one needs.
I have vodafone australia desire hd, which i updated with new system software update... i know a little bit that to flash a rom i need to downgrade first...
the question is ... all i need is the phone to be adfree and has 2-way recording... that is all i want along with whatever it is right now, with latest update from vodafone/htc.
thanks
The best rom so far with sense surely is Leedroid, its on 2.3.3 currently
I just flashed LeeDroid's latest v3.1.5 rom and 3.1.6 kernel and I must say I'm very impressed.. I previously had a HTC stock 2.3.3 GB rooted rom and there are clear differences in terms of speed and performance
MDJ's kernel (that works with pretty much all sense roms) has the 2WCR patch so if you like look of a ROM but want a different kernel, you can flash MDJ's. For a while I was using it with ARHD (for the 2WCR + higher overclock) but the new OC daemon is too good to not have
I was looking for a kernel for 2 way recording. I will try this one. Thanks

I personally tried several roms, and still experimenting new ones. 2-way call recording is vital to me. I think Coredroid and Leedroid are two good options.
Lee and MDJ are two kernels for Sense-based roms. Both of them support 2-way call recording. Now Lee kernel is 3.1.6 and MDJ's Unity is v2.
I personally chose Coredroid for its eye candy. I settle for 6.8 and then flashed with latest lee kernel 3.1.6. 7.0 is too new to me.
Since you just updated your firmware, let's pray it's not 2.37 or higher, or all you can do is just wait...

HTC One X flickering 1.29 vs custom roms

Hi there,
I have a question. I ran Revolution HD on my HTC One X which had severe flickering in the beginning .... like so many others on this device. However after it was updated to HTC 1.29.401.11 the flickering was gone. Took maybe a couple of days but it was gone eventually
Now I am done with sense and moving on to IceCold AOKP which I absolutely love. However the flickering is back and as bad as it was before.
I am not a developer and maybe even a bit of a noob. But I am trying to understand how things work. So maybe a silly question but do the custom kernel developers incorporate the fix of HTC's 1.29 in their kernels so they get rid of the flickering when using their roms as well?
Regards
J
i have had no flickering on the new 2.05 base roms
It should be incorporated in the kernel as the current kernel sources are old you'll have to wait for new sources to include the fixes.
For the time being you'll have to live with it or flash another custom kernel and see if that improves or flash back to a HTC rom.

Thanks will try some other kernels as well!
On the page of this rom (on which I cannot post as a junior) I read flashing the boot.img included in the download is mandatory. So does this mean i HAVE to use the franco kernel?
I just flashed the stock kernel/modules anyway hoping it would solve the flickering...and it most certainly is not as bad now.
But what could this mean for the rom? Everything seems to work perfectly. So I don't get why franco is mandatory

Stock kernel confusion

Okay I am probably going to sound rather stupid here but I am confused
I have installed many custom roms and many kernels. I am experiencing very very bad flickering with all but the latest stock kernel 1.29.401.11
I got it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1692404
Most AOSP roms don't work with this kernel though, so I am going back to a cooked sense rom. I suppose they should work with 1.29.401.11.
However I am wondering now whether this actually is the latest kernel? I am seeing lot of people using 2.17.401.2 base?!
Is the latter the rom version using the 1.29.401.11 kernel?? ....Like I said, probably stupid but confused nonetheless

I think the answer is no.

Thanks will try that one!
The screen flickering is a manufacturing issue that has been discussed heavily on XDA. (See here)
And as too9s said, ARHD is a great custom ROM based on 2.17. However, there are repacked kernels that work well with ARHD in case you wanted to flash a custom kernel.
The one by Faux is very popular: Link
I'm on arhd 9.4 with faux 07vf oc 1.55 uv -75 and it is amazing
Heres a link to all repacked kernels for arhd plenty to choose from
