Will gaming ever be optimized for the Snapdragon family? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, I posted this elsewhere, but got amateur answers.
I came from the Palm Pre. Yes, so lovely to have games like Nova, Asphalt 5, and others running buttery smooth.
Now that I am using the Evo, I'm looking for a fix to my gaming needs.
I have Raging Thunder II. Works nicely (besides the 30fps cap... a gamer can tell)... and I'm about to buy Exzeus Arcade.
So I did some research.
Edit: Can't post links. Google "snapdragon qualcomm" and first link, go to video demonstrations.
That's what my phone is capable of. Wow, I'm thinking that this could be really good.
So the Snapdragons that N1, Incredible, and Evo have have the Adreno 200 GPU. Our phone can seemingly do a lot with that GPU.
My question is there are multiple benchmarks that have other GPUs kicking Adreno's butt. Specifically, the Droid (original), Samsung Galaxy, etc.
So a couple questions to people who have knowledge on this subject.
1. Can games be optimized for the Snapdragon family?
2. Is it hard to develop games for it? Do you see game developers porting and optimizing their games just for us?
3. Can we expect games up to par with other phones?
I tried playing Asphalt 5... lag like no other.
I e-mailed Gameloft and haven't gotten an answer back.
They have their own page for the evo (go to their website on your evo)...
I'm also asking cause there are a lot of people with N1's, Incredibles, and Evos... shouldn't game developers target them?
Also cause I wanted to game on this freaking large screen.

Alot of companies that develop games are starting to work with android alot more, and seeing it up to par with iphone and pre. Id say by xmas they will really be going strong, but by then the dual core snapdragons will be coming out, and they know this, so there will be something amazing coming for its release.

Also, some of those videos found on Qualcomm's Snapdragon page are from 2 years ago...
...
It makes me think ... what have they been doing for the last 2 years?

One bump... I guess no one knows too much about this.

does first gen snapdragon worry you for launching xbox live??

its known to have a poor gpu so it really worries me that it was used to launch a platform which its main selling point will be gaming and xbox live integration. So people will expect to be blown away with games. Now, as far as the UI, its flawless when the OS is concerned but thats not a big deal since the graphical elements are not too taxing, but i saw the negative effects when playing need for speed undercover... it was really a step down when it came to smoothness and graphics IMO even when i remember it performing better in an 500mhz sprint palm pre...
am i missing something?? was it the effect of a dirty port from a ARM cpu made game?? or is this something to be mildly dissapointed about??
>> on a side note, if snapdragon gen 1 is such a poor graphical cpu according to reviewers, why does the PSP Phone sport one??
I would appreciate some feedback... cheers
Combination of all that. Dirty port, new platform, and restrictions.
Sidenote PSP phone is on a newer version, but nothing is confirmed.
There are no games that push that CPU so no one is worried. By the time such games come the people who care will be getting ready to buy a new phone anyways. Those people buy anything just cause the specs are better.
Look at how android fans rave about the hummingbird CPU on a platform with relatively poor games and no gourmet accellerated ui, etc......

Dude don't ruin the thread, and please do some research. Android has a ton of games. Multiplayer and cross platform games. Not to mention the use of the Unreal gaming engine(pushes CPU).
But this isn't a Android thread so lets not mention it. Focus on WP7 for a change.
I hope microsoft thought about this when they selected it to be the only supported cpu atm.
But my main question is, if a game was to be made from the ground up specifically for wp7 and snapdragon, and the game resembles a lot like NOVA for example (first person shooter) in detail and complexity, can the processor run it without issues??
IMO its just going to be like the iPhone. The iPhone 2nd gen can still run most games that the iP4 can... but just with longer load times and lower frame rates.

Yes. ACreed is already on WP7 from the makers of Nova.

You have to consider that MS actually wrote some decent drivers for this CPU/GPU.
I do not know if you remember this but before Qualcomm bought out the ATI mobile solutions division HTC had real trouble with the gfx card drivers due to laziness and licensing. This issue was present up until only the last few 6.5 devices that were made. Instantly this CPU/GPU was regarded as better but still not there yet (HD2). Qualcomms own presentations showed the chip running at much more potential.
Simply put. MS realised that HTC cant write drivers to save their lives,(homebrew projects were started by the community to save devices such as the X1 etc) so they wrote their own.
This might not be the best example but if you check videos of side by side comparisons (Nexus S vs Focus/Omnia 7) you will see that WP7 manages to be more fluid displaying websites then a Hummingbird Android combo.
I believe the chip hasn't been used to its full potential yet. If it will be fully utilized in a years time for lets say games... is debatable.

In addition to that, I think a lot of performance depends on the software running on top of it. For example, everyone gets caught up in the powerhouse specs of Android--but maybe because Android is a custom version of Linux the software is 'heavier' and it requires a lot of power from the CPU. Meanwhile, WP7 software seems to be running much faster than Android on a slower CPU and that is most likely because Microsoft has done a fantastic job of keeping the OS optimized for the hardware and maybe even hardware accelerated (to use the CPU's full potential).
It's like viewing a picture with Photoshop versus viewing a picture with a default Photo Viewer. On a fast computer, the speed difference between opening either one is probably not a big deal. But on a slower computer, Photoshop will take longer to open than the Photo Viewer. Both programs are identical on both computers, but the Photo Viewer has less to load and was designed to open faster than Photoshop.
100% sure you guys can't put any facts behind that, yes WP7 has a graphic accelerated UI, but beyond that, the speed isn't anything to brag about. Wow you can get around your phone fast, these days who can't?
Load the same game up on all three platforms and WP7 is dead last.
IOS vs Android vs PC due in January.
IOS vs Android vs PC vs console gaming due in 2011
Cross platform real time multiplayer gaming just a pipe dream on WP7.
WP7 features the SnapDragon SoC AND an Adreno 200 GPU. The GPU is the one handling the animations and such while the CPU focuses on the rest. Now I'm not saying it's a speed monster, but it's more than enough.
@Above: Alot of Android phones are still plagued by choppiness, not by Android itself, but by the Skins OEMs put on it. Motorola is the notorious one. But consumers do not know and will blame android for it instead.

who can't get around their phone fast? Android and RIM. Let's be realistic, in terms of GPU, both Oses are poor. I mean REALLY poor.
The load test is a bit difficult for a lot of reasons. Most of the wp7 devices uses microsd card and that has been KNOWN to attribute to slow loading, not as much as the cpu/gpu. Also is there an objective test that loads the same 3 games on the three smartphone platforms? It's no question apple would be first using flash based storage, it is meant to poll data at a faster rate than microsd card.
secondly, microsoft does have support for real time gaming and a few more details due to using CE7 core
Check more about that
http://wmpoweruser.com/wm7-is-ce7/
recently however, the news story has been verified that CE7 is underlying wp7 not CE6 with bits of CE7
It honestly wouldn't surprise me if we saw real time gaming as early as next year on wp7 platform

I don't think snapdragon is terrible either. It's been underutilized but not terrible by any means. I also agree that a lot of the reasons there is horrid runtimes is because it is a fast port and the port isn't Optimized for wp7. Microsoft has done an unbelievable job for the porting process, but developers just stop there. There is no further optimization sadly and that is a shame
While I think a better processor would be ideal, I don't think its gonna be a problem for WP7. You see the thing about Android is that it REQUIRES all these specs that the fanboys rave over to run smoother. WP7 is already there. Android has a bigger footprint than WP7 and requires more power. This is the problem with android and gaming. I have Angry Birds on my phone, Moto Cliq, and it loads slowly and plays poorly. I deleted because I can't play a game a 2fps.
^ see what I mean you blame the OS because of your phone. That's not Androids fault, put those exact same Motorola Cliq specs in a WP7 device and you will have the same result.
Dominues lets be realistic what can you do faster on WP7?
Yes there is a video on YouTube of Acreed loading on WP7 and Android, took android seconds, took WP7 damn near a minute or two.
Who said anything about microSD chips?
CE7 supports multiplayer gaming, WP7 itself doesn't. Right now at this very moment it is impossible to play a realtime multiplayer game on WP7. Its a pipe dream right now.
You can say potentially the January update will correct this, and I can say potentially WP7 will launch the next NASA mission.
Another thing why do you guys have to mention the fault of another OS but brush off the faults of WP7 as if its acceptable?

This is exactly why I switched to WP7. I have a vibrant and while I LOVED the screen, I felt it was pointless because there was not enough great games out on android. N.O.V.A. dragon age, and asphalt were awesome and alot of fun but those had to be bought directly from the gameloft app store. Why is that? Becasue the android market / platform has terrible security. Developers don't want to spend a long time creating an awesome game and then have it pirated a couple hours later.
Overall I already have much better games on my WP7 device. All my friends with galaxy S series phones can't believe the games I have on it in terms of quality and quantity.
I don't get the big buzz about angry birds also, its simple and fun for a little bit, but don't you think its quite repetitive? I knew I never once pulled out my vibrant thinking "lets play angry birds" after I beat it the first time.
Android does have the best hardware for games (nothing even comes close) however, the apps just aren't there, so who is to blame? The OEMs or the OS? I'd say the OS.
The only thing that beats WP7 in the games department is the iPhone. This is only true because of how long it has been out and it has the biggest market share. As a developer you developer programs for the largest group of potential buyers. Android does not factor in because it has a culture of having free apps and "free" apps. The latter being the reason why top game developers stay away.
so far i havnt seen anything from the 1ghz snapdragon processor to make me thnk its great. yes the wp7 interface is fast and fluid but the games themselves do not run as fluidly as i would like. despite having a 1ghz processor like the iphone, wp7 games dont seem to be as smooth probably running at 25 fps while i phone games look like they are running closer to 60 fps. im waiting for ilmilo milo or what ever its called to confrim this as so far it looks liek the smoothest wp7 game. rocket riot is currently the smoothest ive seen on wp7.

3. You also fail to take into account graphic detail. let's be realistic. Windows Phone 7 does look better, and is larger than android games. Heck the Acreed game looks antiquated on android...and that's on the best android device
OK OP question has been answered. Thread gone to opinionated bias people who don't like facts. Opinion after opinion. Where are the facts?

[Q] N64oid Performance on Galaxy Nexus

Anyone have any clue as to how N64oid will perform on the Galaxy Nexus? The gpu is less than overwhelming, and with the notable increase in screen resolution, it's being strained even harder.
I don't have any idea how N64oid utilizes resources, the CPU should certainly be fast enough to power the game, but is it going to be playable with the SGX540?

If it doesn't work well... just wait for a more powerful smartphone. If the Galaxy Nexus can't do it, no smartphone can either. At least, not yet.
I want to know how well psx emulators work. Im sure nes/snes will be fine.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
Well has anyone tried it on an Archos 101 or Archos 80 Turbo? They're running the same chip, and have similar resolutions. (the 101's running 1280x600 and the 80 is 1024x768) if it runs well on them, it should run well on the Galaxy Nexus.

food for thought-
nexus s released with the exact same hardware as the galaxy s(released 1 yr b4 it). same hummingbird soc, same gpu, same ram, etc etc.it was the time when there were phones like the atrix around. extremely dissapointing. but even now the nexus s is one of the highest benchmarked, best performing phones around. reason? not hardware, but software. google is a huge and vastly successful company,as is samsung, no doubt. there are brains inside google that retards like the "nexus haters" cant even grasp the height of. when they build a phone, they build one on which they can apply all the optimizations and improvements that they possibly can; they know, that by the time they are done with the GN, they will have extracted 100% out of it. Samsung on the other hand , will be hard pressed to deliver ics+tw, u would be a fool to expect them 2 integrate all the optimizations that google comes up with, every time. stop looking at benchmarks. samsung wont even be able to harness 60% the power of the mali400, let alone 100%. look at galaxy tab 10.1 n xoom. nexus s n galaxy s.
BECAUSE GOOGLE MAKES ANDROID, NOT SAMSUNG.
If they think its best to use 4460 instead of exynos,it is.
If they think it is best not 2 use sdcard, it isnt. (i dont agree with it tho)
If they think its best to include sgx540, then it is. trust me, they know what they are doing. They know that gs2 has mali400, and almost all games released in the future will be tested to run on the GN. So if they think that clocking it at 384 will outperform mali400, who r u 2 argue??????????????
So in the end , if you are really sure that samsung will optimize the gs2 2 its full potential, will give out updates every month, and your gs2's tw infested hardware will save your ass for the next 2 years, then go ahead, bash GN all you like.
Because, truthfully, its not GN vs GS2 at all, its what you "think" vs what all the designers @google+samsung THINK is best.
PERIOD.

I agree that optimizations have the potential to make up for deficits in actual hardware improvements. (though saying that it can make up for a 4 year old gpu which already got its chance to be optimized on the Nexus S is stretching it) But my point is still not about hardware optimization, my question is weather or not anyone has experience running emulators on similar hardware, no need to jump all over me.

n64oid like most emulators on the Android platform runs the games at their native resolution and just stretches them. It doesn't actually render them in the screens native resolution, so the processing power involved in simply stretching the image and not even doing any upscaling in the conventional sense is minimal.
Thanks, that gives me a lot more confidence in the device. As well, I've seen some video of split screen multiplayer on a HDTV using controllers, if the SGSII can do that, I think I should be able to play some Starfox on Nexus.
... ... ...
My Captivate ran PSX4Droid just fine (I'm not sure about N64oid, I don't believe I used it on my Captivate). Granted, it had DesignGear's ROM on it, and had a custom kernel, but it ran emulators without a hiccup. Well, except for the sound, but that had to do with the emulator, not the phone.
I didn't play a ton of games on it, but I know FFVII and Brave Fencer Musashi ran pretty much perfectly. I don't think the GN will have an issue with this at all.
No one should be using PSX4Droid anymore. FPSE destroys it in terms of features, performance, compatibility, etc

N64oid plays all games flawlessly without hiccups on my g2x (1ghz tegra 2) so I would assume it would work just as well

Near flawless on aosp sgs...little laggy on touchwiz charge. No worries about n64 or psx2 emulation on this phone. I expect comparable performance to a sgs ii in most areas gpu wise. Obviously each chip has their own pros and cons but they're definitely both high end.

All I'm worried about is that the next gen games won't work well with the Galaxy Nexus. These games look great, but with Apple and other companies (e.g Samsung) pushing mobile gaming, and the new mobile GPU's that are coming out, ours is already obsoleted and probably won't be good enough to play a lot of games in the future

From what I've seen, gaming on the "higher end" phones simply just add useless eye candy and don't effect overall game play at all. I love eye candy, don't get me wrong, but I don't fear that we'll be left out in the cold.
With Quad-Core not even out yet, I don't think we'll be seeing anything that requires a "Quad-Core or higher" for a long time.
I also just noticed how the software buttons rotate depending on orientation. Life's simple joy!
Forgive me for not being so knowledgeable on technology, but I would be mistaken in thinking that even if Quad-Core is released, most phones won't even be able to utilise it properly for a good year or two? And by the time they are put to good use, all our Galaxy Nexus contracts will be up and we'll be eligible for an upgrade and we'll be hopping on the newest Nexus?
So quad-core doesn't even matter for a while even if they are being released next year?
Back on topic the phone looks insanely smooth, even when you had all them games open it was silky! I'm loving it a lot, getting it tomorrow
could you test the kairosoft games? like game dev story and the others?

Exactly my thoughts. For example on mine Plants v. Zombies looks great and works great for a few minutes, then freezes when under heavy load (i.e. "Final Wave" pushes). It can't be the GPU or memory issues because other (just as graphically heavy- if not more so) games (like Tiki Golf 2) are perfect.
I just want to clarify how good that first game is?

The subject that was bound to come back sometime - Gaming

Hey everyone,
This question was bound to come back sometime, and since I have one day left to return the Galaxy Nexus, I wanted to re-raise the issue.
First of all, the GPU of the Galaxy Nexus is the PowerVR SGX540 clocked at 307mhz. Other phones that have come out relatively close to the Galaxy Nexus are the Samsung Galaxy S ll , HTC EVO 3D and finally the iPhone 4s (or the iPad in the site below) have much better benchmark scores compared to the Galaxy Nexus. Now I know the performance heavily depends on the drivers/etc installed but would that make any difference from a phone like the Galaxy S in terms of gaming performance?
According to these benchmarks: here the phone with the PowerVR SGX 540 at 300mhz (Optimus 3D) performs pretty horribly, and I have this phone for another 14 months. Since I consider myself an avid gamer, I want to know if you guys think this phone can last 14 months in terms of the GPU. I know its found in plenty of older devices such as the Galaxy S and the Nexus S, but there are so many games already optimized for it so do you guys think developers will continue to support this fairly dated GPU for the 14 months to come?
Now I'm no technology expert, so I'd appreciate if someone else could help me out here
Thanks,
Mosh
benchmarks don't really mean much to be honest. you could run the exact same test 10 times and get a different result each time.
as far as what this phone can handle... well, i have tried the following:
Shadow Gun
Sentinel 3
Samurai II
Fruit Ninja
Field Runners HD
Shinobi Barrage
all those games play fine for the most part, just a lil slow down here & there in the more graphically intense games like Shadow Gun(this game also makes the phone run very hot). as far as other phones go, i have tried all those games on my Rezound and they played just fine on that phone to. actually, Shadow Gun was a bit smoother on the Rezound(but only slightly).
i'd say as far as 'top-of-line' phones go(on Verizon at least) the 2 tops are the Nexus & the Rezound.
as for the future, supposedly Asus & HTC have quad-core phones with Tegra 3 GPU's coming out 1st Q 2012, but who knows how soon that actually will be(most likely will be push backs & won't see the light until summer or later)
First, the GN GPU is clocked at 384 MHz, second there is not yet a single game (game, not benchmark!) out there that comes close to utilizing the Tegra2 GPU (which is not "very good" either) to its fullest. Draw your own conclusions.
Mine are that the GN GPU will be more than enough until the phone is "old tech" anyway.

Umm.. no.. its actually clocked at 307MHZ. Only way to see it clocked at 384MHZ is if you OC to 1.4 GHZ (CPU) which many Nexus become unstable or become slower for some reason. The Rez plays games better but its not a huge upgrade either. If you want a stronger GPU, wait for the Adreno 225+ or the new Galaxy S3. The Tegra 3 from what I remember reading seems to be still slower than the Exynos chip which to me is a dissappointment.
If we get games like Real Racing 2 graphics or better, our GPU's will not be strong enough to support them. The iPad 2 at times slightly stutters on Real Racing 2 even with its strong GPU.

Mine are that the GN GPU will be more than enough until the phone is "old tech" anyway.

The only game that I've tried to play other than Words with friends and Hanging with friends is Airport Mania 2 HD, which runs horribly on my Galaxy Nexus (with and without GPU rendering forced). Just food for thought. I'm wondering if 4.0.3 will help it out any. If it does, good, if not, oh well as I really don't play games that often, but it would still be nice to be able to play it on a "top of the line" phone. Other than that, I still like my phone.
I noticed the slow downs in Shadow Gun too. Which prompted me to try overclocking. My phone stutters at 1.4 but very smooth at 1.35. Games play better too. And they're just getting started, who knows what they can do... I think its gonna work out great.

Other phones that have come out relatively close to the Galaxy Nexus are the Samsung Galaxy S ll , HTC EVO 3D and finally the iPhone 4s (or the iPad in the site below) have much better benchmark scores compared to the Galaxy Nexus.

The A5 in the iPhone 4s and iPad 2 has a dual-core SGX543MP2, which is why it benchmarks a lot higher. If you want a mobile device that will give the best gaming experience, the iPhone 4s is your best bet as it has the most powerful GPU out of all phones available.
i thought the gpu was 308 mhz? aaaand you don't need to oc to 1.4ghz for 384 mhz. i'm running 384 mhz stock and uv'ed. and yeah the 543mp2 suck up juice when you push them. but so does the 540. i'm happy with it. great balanced phone. should last two years. and somebody supposedly oc'ed the the 540 to 512mhz but i haven't seen a followup or proof yet so who knows.
You want a great gaming device, get a tablet, or better yet, the PS Vita, which will have much better software titles from A+ game studios.
I hear all of this talk about how well or how poorly these devices (i4s included) do with gaming, but I say, who cares? There are good games on Android and iOS, but hardly anything worth investing 30-40 hours of time in, like the Vita will have. The way I see it, if I really wanted to have an amazing portable gaming experience, the 250 dollar Vita will give me Uncharted, Killzone, Metal Gear Solid, God of War, LittleBigPlanet, etc etc. The list goes on. Plus that 250 dollars will, as a console, last me more than 2 years. Plus it actually has buttons and thumbsticks and such, things that are pretty important IMO.
Thanks for all the replies guys!
One thing to be noted though: The GPU can be overclocked without overclocking the CPU.
Another thing though, I'm actually not going to return it because I realized that I barely need to play a 20+ hour game on my phone. At home I have a computer (With an i5 2500k and a GTX 560 Ti), Ps3, xbox 360, etc so there's no room for a mobile device in terms of gaming at home, and when I'm out I'm usually at school so I barely game, and when I do, casual games are sufficient for my needs.
Thanks again guys
The gs2 epic touch gets the Mali 400 I think. Its an older but still very fast gpu. My wife's gs2 pulls 4200+ quadrant stock. Considered one of the best on the market...even w age.

Quadrant doesn't mean much, it isn't optimized for ICS yet.
The Mali 400 is a newer and much faster GPU than the SGX540, the 540 is a leftover from the original Galaxy S and Nexus S. The Exynos CPU is nothing short of amazing. I did some side by side testing of the Nexus and the GS2 today and it wasn't even close the GS2 smoked it in every test and game.

I wasn't trying to come off that quadrant was THE benchmark but over 4k stock seems nice.
I knew the gs2 was a beast but had no idea til we bought it. No buyers remorse here. It can stay on gbread forever for all I care. It runs better than anything I have used.
Haters gonna hate, but if you want a device for gaming, you should honestly look at an Apple device. The native nature of iOS apps gives Apple an advantage over Android right from the get go. Java apps will always be slower than apps written in C (or in this case Objective-C) for any given level of coder skill. Then you have to consider that Apple's current iPhone/iPad platform are running hardware that is uncharacteristically powerful compared to not only what Apple is notorious for using, but to most Android devices as well. Finally, the grim reality is still that the big name studios prefer to develop for iOS.
If you are ok with giving up many of the freedoms you may have become accustomed to with Android in exchange for gaming performance and selection, then the 4S is probably a good choice.

Lol you can get a gs2, pair a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to the phone and play and game u want. Can't get closer than that

overstatement, but close. you can do the same with the nexus too.

Agreed. I've found that I've tried to play more involving games on my phones, but I just have trouble finding a groove. I'd much rather play stuff like NFL flick QB and cut the rope.

Galaxy Nexus GPU

Hello Everyone I have a Galaxy Nexus and love it. My only question is how will this GPU hold up in the long run. Right now it does pretty well (not as well as my 4s though) but also can sometimes stutter and lag. It runs nearly every game pretty well. My question is how soon will it be when it will no longer be able to handle higher end games? So I guess the question remains is it worth waiting for tegra 3. I do not need the best graphics ever but do enjoy for the games to run well.

Are u on 4.0.2? The stuttering isn't due to the gpu being weak it has to due with the sw. 4.0.3 adds some performance enhancements which will mostly fix the lag and stuttering.
4.0.3 will help stuttering in games?

The SGX540 is older, but it is also clocked higher than before and integrated in new ways into the OMAP4460. Now, as a comparison to the 4S? Not even close. Apple went all out, the SGX543 MP2 blows the Nexus' GPU out of the water. Completely. If gaming is your primary focus, it is the wrong phone. That said, I have experienced zero lag in games, and I've tried all the major titles. I haven't modified my phone at all. I think the phone will start to show its age in about a year or so, when the next Nexus device is released. However, the same will happen with the 4S. I don't think it will be the GPU in that device, but rather the RAM, the 3G speeds, etc.
All technology has a short lifespan.
edit: Typos.

I'm not sure what game(s) you are trying to play, but so far I've just tried out Sentinel 3 on my Nexus. While I was on 4.0.2, overall system performance seemed to be sluggish. Now that I am on 4.0.3 it's improved. Sentinel 3 was indeed laggy on 4.0.2 yet it's mostly gone now on 4.0.3 The game did perform better on my old phone, but I feel it's just a matter of the developer improving support for this phone's GPU.
As for Tegra 3, the question is.. "when?" Asus & HTC have stated they have new Tegra 3 devices in the works but vague ETA's on them. For all we know it could be like the Bionic and get released many months after they were supposed to be. Only time will tell.

ASUS Transformer Prime is already out in some retailers/etailers, but it is not mainstreamly sold due to demand. My friend got one from Frys the other day. Also, Amazon has started shipping some Transformer Primes to preorderers.

Pros: Great screen, fast, light weight, plenty of memory.Newegg has great service. Ordered it 4:00 pm, received it at 10:30 am the next morning
Cons: Not ice cream sandwich

.. So yeah, they're already being shipped out.
Thanks I am aware of Transformer Prime but I am looking phones. And the main game I noticed lag was GTA III. And if I can get 8 months with it I would be more then happy.

You mentioned ASUS. When it comes to ASUS, first thing I think about is their recognition in tablets. I know they're making a phone but no one really thinks about phones when people say ASUS.
But any regards, gaming on a tablet would probably be more preferable because the screen is so much bigger. At least for me, so you might want to look into that and see if it is something you'd want to invest your money in.

oh... me?... well, i was planning on getting a transformer prime myself(eventually). but yeah they have their "padafone" cell phone that's tegra 3 and supposedly coming out 1st q 2012. curious on how that progresses.
that padafone looks very uncompelling with the exception of the tegra 3. Would much rather nexus
I have not seen any games yet that don't perform well.

same GPU as nexus s, approx 20% higher performance but needs to push 2x as many pixels. Performance (framerate) is notieceably worse than my nexus s. For example, that backbreaker game runs at 60fps on my NS, its prolly around 40ish
Its not a big deal for me since I mostly play simple time waster games on my phone. I ave a PS3 and laptop for when I really want to game.
Honestly, I kind of laugh at the whole Tegra 3 thing. Because I ask myself "why?"
Nvidia is rushing out the door with their quad core (there's even a secret fifth core as well!) Tegra 3 when most of us still remember the Tegra 2 and how crappy it was on that first-generation of Honeycomb tablets.
I owned an original Transformer with the Tegra 2 and couldn't even play 720p videos properly. Of course part of the issue is codecs as well and the Galaxy Nexus as a vanilla Android device isn't great on that front either... still, I can't help but feel Nvidia is rushing forth with this quad-core thing when nobody else is there yet simply because their previous offering was so mediocre.
I mean they had to devise the whole unnecessary "optmized for Tegra" games thing to make it look like the Tegra SoCs are something special when they are at best competitors to other SoCs.
I hope they fix the live wallpaper stutters. It's just ridiculous bad
