Landscape view in home screen - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How can we get landscape mode on home screen in sense?

Use LauncherPro

sense doesn't do landscape. unless someone makes a mod for it or something it wont happen with sense. you'll have to use a different homes creen like mentioned above.

The My Touch 3g Slide Sense does.... Back when I had a Hero, Zen ported over the MT3G ROM and it was instantly my daily. Sense's Rosie rotates like it should...
With the EVO having a kickstand and all, I figured this landscape Sense was a lock.
Anyway, I use ADW Launcher instead of sense now.

Moved as not software or theme.

switch in there somewhere.
there has to be a switch in there to do landscape. when i was playing with the evo one day i threw it on the bed don't know what i pressed but when i looked at it, it was in landscape. The bottom bar was stretched out to the edge of the screen. The apps you have on screen same spacing between them except at the sides which had more spacing. Been trying to duplicate what i did with no luck so far.

When will landscape work with 2.5?

Any ideas? Landscape is a big feature for me, but I'd like to get some of the new stuff from 2.5 as well. So... is there any guess as to when landscape will work with more than two tabs?
Landscape sorta works on 2.5 (at least on Shadowline's ROM). SMS/Emails both go into landscape mode when typing with the keyboard. And Opera goes into landscape when the keyboard is slid open but it doesn't rotate with the G-sensor.
So it pretty much works where it counts. For example, landscape on the home screen is of little consequence.
Edit: I should mention that not all 2.5 ROMs work as well. I had some trouble with a Valkyrie ROM locking up when rotating back and forth between landscape and portrait. But the bottom line is that it does kinda work on some ROMs.
Thanks, I know it "kinda" works but I was wondering if anyone had any idea when it would "really" work.
since Manila 2.5 wasn't developed for a phone with a slide-out keyboard, i don't think we'll be seeing landscape support for a while. but who knows, a cook could figure out how to tweak it and have it working.

Landscape as default orientation?

Is there some kind of cvar/mod/hack/.. to change the default orientation from portait to landscape?
In AOSP only ofc.
no ideas about that? :/
You could try putting your phone into landscape then turning orientation off.
That is the only easy way I know of to keep it that way, if you use a widget then you can easily turn it back on when you want to change back.
it goes back to porttrait immediately when disabling auto-rotate. (via a homescreen widget)
any further ideas?
shouldnt there be a way to do so since the motorola droid has everything in landscape when hw-keyboard is open?
can some dev please give his opinion on this please?
just wanted to add that after trying landscape mode for a while, I think it would be annoying as the default or only layout option since it requires two hands pretty much for even the most simple use.
portrait allows thumb (if you're talented) or index finger (if you're flexible) single handed tapping usage.
i prefer landscape mode in all situations. i always hold my hero sideways but dont want to wait like 2 sec for it to turn around.
so again, is there a way for doing this?

since the silence here is suggesting that no developers are going to (or are able to) help you out, I suggest you try playing with the slide rom that has sense rotation enabled.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666640
it's not perfect, cant' record video, some issues that eventually always make me want to switch back (notably if you use exchange the contact list doesn't join contacts from exchagne email, gmail email, and active directory email... but it should and does in non-slide roms).
But it has the fastest launcher screen rotation of any hero rom I've used, faster than vanilla + launcherpro and far more stable in how it senses screen rotation. it's a sense rom that is actually designed to work as well landscape as portrait.
it doesn't rotate instantly, but it's noticeably faster turning (for me using only it's built in array of sense widgets) if you want to use horizontal layout. And it stays in place better - you know how annoying it is when launcherpro has rotation enabled and you move your phone a bit and suddenly it's redrawing sideways for the next 6 seconds... well I haven't found that to be much of an issue in that slide rom.
There are still a couple of parts that dumbly don't rotate, or at least not in the default settings I tried (contacts for example and settings are I think still portrait - stupid mistakes on HTC's part).
If you nandroid first or bart first if you use an ext partition then you have no worries in flashing the above rom to at least give it a try.
This is one area where the new iphone seems to win out I'm afraid - it's launcher screen rotation is really nice, animated, quick, stable and very useful.
Dammit LoL
good luck, post your findings please!
thank you for your effort but that rom you suggested does not meet my requirements and i cant say that i like the modified rosie that is used here. :/

that's fair
At least I tried
If an actual rom developer had a solution for you it would be more interesting!
have you considered talking to one of the 3rd party launcher developers? such as the guy who makes launcherpro, the adw guy(s), and so on?
Maybe that is where your solution lies?
That combined with maybe talking to one of the cyanogenmod developers themselves (who aren't hero-specific, you'd have to google their home website)?
Cyanogenmod might be able to add an option for 90 degree rotation only (with no zero degree switching). or at least show you how to change it yourself.
Good luck!

Landscape

Evo landscape. I have seen it but don't know hot to do it, is it posible?
turn the phone 90° either right or left so that it is on it's side
your phone Is now in landscape
if nothing happened try doing it while running an app, or install a better rom
I currently have mikfroyo v4.4. It would be nice having landscape without using an application.
launcher pro, adw launcher will give landscape on home screen I think
Running CM7 with adw launcher, launcher pro, ect, allow you to use landscape. If you are using CM7, go into the settings and disable persistence on the screen.
Thank you for the support

Stock Trashcan Space?

Okay so I just rooted my G2 with CM6 and I am missing only one thing. I loved the small 1x1 trashcan drop that came with the stock G2 rom. I don't know how anyone else feels about this, but anyway am I just missing something? I have scoured the UI customizations and cannot find any way to move the trashcan away from the left side on landscape, or top in portrait. I like to do alot with my keyboard open and it makes it hard to drag icons over to the next screen. Anyway just a rant unless anyone has a solution it would be nifty.

CM6+ comes with ADW launcher as default, and that is how that home replacement app is set up. If you install another home replacement app, (I recommend LauncherPro) you will have the option to switch next time you hit the home button. Each launcher app is set up a little differently so you will have to find one that fits your tastes or find the stock launcher.
and I think this is supposed to go in Q&A..
LauncherPro
Cool, thanks guys! Solved.

Launcherpro Plus landscape snappiness

So, I'm on mikfroyo 4.5 and I'm using the paid launcherpro. Is there a way to have it build a cache for switching between portrait and landscape mode? Switching to landscape on the home screen isnt TOO slow but it could definately stand to be faster. It looks like it removes all the icons on my screen and then replaces them currently.

I would also like to know if there is a setting I'm missing somewhere to remedy this. This happens to me using LPP on any Sense OR AOSP rom. Drives me crazy. Exactly as you describe, when it switches from landscape to portrait, the icons seem to disappear and then rebuild. It's annoying as crap. I have played around with all the settings and have yet to find anything to correct this. I never see anyone else complain of the issue, so I assumed it was my doing that was causing the problem somehow. Any suggestions anyone?
My solution: turn off rotation in Launcher Pro. I also tried this for a while but was very dissatisfied with the time it took to switch orientations, no amount of caching or keeping launcher in memory tweaks seemed to help.

Yea, that's what I did. I don't need my homescreen in landscape. I'd rather not have the slow loading.
