new to windows phone - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

im a newbie when i comes to windows phones, ive had blackberry's my whole contract and i figured what the heck ill try one so i found a new one on ebay and when i got it, it looked like it had the sense rom installed, and me being an idiot, put the original rom back on it. how can i put sense back into it? lol

go to the touch pro 2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile Rom development forum and read the Hard-SPL unlocker sticky thread and make sure your device is hard-spl'd, if not then do it. Then read the Flashing your first GSM Rhodium Rom (also a stickied thread) [this is assuming ur device is gsm (at&t or t-mobile)] and go through the roms and flash whichever one you please. NRG's Energy roms seem to be the most popular for the rhodium but its all up to your personal preference.

Wait a minute, you already burned a ROM and you don't know how to burn a new ROM? If you are asking what ROM to burn, take a look at the ROM development forums.

I was just about to say that.. if you can put one rom on you can put any rom on (any rom thats compatible with your phone that is)

well the rom i put on was the regular factory rom from htc's website and i found it to be easy cuz it was an .exe file, idk about other roms. whats a good rom for me to use? i was thinking sense but i read it slowed down after alot of txts and emails. im a big txter and i use emails alot so i dont know what to load on my phone. any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. and for the record, im 18yo, and dont know much about this kind of technical stuff.

There is an issue with SAVING sms - it slows down the phone a lot. But it should be no problem to view them and then delete the old ones. I use the NRG ROM. But I would go over to the ROM Development section and read up. Start by discovering if the phone has Hard SPL.

Flash the OEM Stock ROM Before EVERY Upgrade?

I know people have repeatedly said it's best to flash a stock ROM before upgrading to your cooked rom, but do you do this before every ROM change? Wasn't sure of the protocol...thanks
Each and every time - normal procedure for me to avoid hard resets, etc.
Same thing for the wizards also.......
Edit - as corrected by other responses, not a standard procedure for flashing roms, just a procedure I follow due to hard reset issues previously.
Thanks for the quick reply!
I actually have 1 more question...does it matter WHICH rom you flash? like do you need to flash the rom that the cooked rom is most based off of?
I have been using this one before flashes: RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3.62.502.3_6275_1.54.07.00_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship
but just realized i may need to have a stock rom that is closer to what i am flashing
That's the oem rom I've been using.....
Should someone respond with something better, then we both will have a new base for flashing.
Have a good one
ROM minus the radio
I believe someone had posted once that OEM ROM extracted without the radio...i'd like to find that so i'm not reflashing my radio too every time...
Is this really true? I haven't been to active on the board the last few months, but I don't remember seeing that prior to this. What's the technical reason behind it? I don't know how many dozens of times I've flashed my phone...haven't had an official ROM on it since the day I bought the thing.
I haven't and so far I have not had any hard reset with any ROMs that I have tried for the last year. My latest being MaRaHox 5.02.
I guess it is best practice to do so, best to flash with your carrier shipped rom, and then upgrade/downgrade your radio, then your desired rom that you wish to keep.

Yea it is true, if you had used a search before posting a new thread you might have found it! Here is the link!
The only time I flash a OEM ROM is if I am going from BIGSTORAGE to non BIGSTORAGE. Thats just me though and I haven't had any problems.
Fortunately, I never needed to flash the official. But it's the best thing to do for those having HR & Bigstorage flashing issues...
I use Vp3G 6.0 ROM as my baseline. It is close to the standard AT&T ROM. The biggest problem is goingfrom a big storage ROM back to a "standard" ROM. However, I baseline my device each time I flash a new ROM because it only takes a few minutes to do so.

You must be joking...
first of all - i am not an idiot, i know how to search, i just don't always know how to FIND - i did search...for like 20 minutes!! i couldn't find the exact answer to that question. Of course YOU knew where to find that thread cause u were posting in it earlier!
second - i don't see the reason people get SO offended over a repost?! of course if it is something that is asked EVERY day and it is your first post and u are like, which is the best rom...ok, you deserve to hear it...but people love to flame you over asking a question when it takes 2 seconds of someones time to answer and it could take me literally 20 minutes or more to find the specific answer i am looking for. Plus other people got benefit from my asking again so what is the bloody harm??
Third - you got me all excited and didn't link me to what i was looking for! I saw someone post the OEM ATT ROM but without the radio. So, Mr. Smart guy, please search your loving heart out and help me find it...please! Cause i have no clue how to find that file
EDIT: Whoops, ok i just read where you explained how to do the extraction...that does help actually thanks
Flashing an official rom prior to flashing WM6.1 roms may be a good a practice. however, on my part, i never needed to do that. I just flashed PdaViet's WM6.1 rom from Shaminix's WM6 rom and it is still stable and fast. No hard resets whatsover. I am also using an ATT 8525 handset.
It seems as though people are asking if this is standard practice or not... The answer is simple... It is not standard practice for everyone... It is completely up to the individual, if this is what they want to do....
I suffer from RFWS (Rom Flashing Withdrawal Syndrome) and due to my disorder, I usually flash several times a week and NEVER do I flash an OEM rom before flashing the rom I actually want... I also don't have any issues while doing it this way...
Now, with that being said, I can understand why one would flash when going from BigStorage to NonBigStorage or Vice-Versa, but that is about it...
/rantoff
I just flash the rom i want to try out , no official roms for me ,if it isn't an illegal rom it just doesnt't feel right
i used to flash everyday, but then the big white van with the blue flashing lights took me away to the big house

I was about to say that you have to start reading, but I am glad that post helped you out!

Sorry..another noobie

I'm afraid I've had to resort to posting the million dollar question, how do I flash a modified ROM? I've been searching for hours on how to but just can't find anything that explains things in plainly. I've visited various websites that have links here but I can't work out where to even start. There's all this talk SPL and stuff that I have no clue what it is.
Could somebody please post replies to this and guide me through it? I'd appreciate it very much as I really like my Diamond but it could do with a boost.
Thanks
Maybe you over looked the search take a look at this thread it will help you,

Thanks guys for the pointers. I must admit I've been looking at these before. However, having looked at them in a bit more detail, I can see how it's starting to get together.
There were 3 things that I couldn't find on the pages...
1. How do I back up my existing ROM (and everything that will be overwritten) so should things go wrong, I have a restore option?
2. The page about upgrading your ROM says.."now download a ROM of your choice". Somehow that doesn't sound as simple as it's put. There are ROMs all over the place, how do I know what will work on my Diamond.
3. Is it really worth upgrading the ROM? i.e Are there any actual success stories of the Diamond "flying" along as if it's just been injected with steriods?
Look forward to your replies.
Thanks
1: ROM backup - search is your best friend, there are a few open threads about this procedure.
As for making a backup of your contacts/msgs etc, you can sync the device with windows, use PIMbackup or sprite backup.
2: You won't know till you find a ROM which fits your needs. There is no universal BEST rom...
3: Yes there are. ^.^

HTC standard ROM on T-mo TP2 possible?

I just thought about this right now. Can the standard HTC ROM be flashed to the Tmobile TP2? Or would we have to wait for the HSPL? Im pretty sure you can flash other standard ROMs right? [like those in different languages]. So is it possible to flash an HTC ROM to the Tmo version at this point? Maybe this belongs in the ROM development section, sorry if it does, but i think its a general question.
Also, how do you check to see if you have CID unlocked your phone, [using the hardware keys]? i did a search of it, but couldnt find it again.
forgive me if im double posting, i did a search for these questions, but couldnt come up with a definitive answer. Or a clear one, for that matter. So i thought its better to ask yourself.
anyways, thanks for the time and the replies guys.
-josh.
No one? looks like 59 other people are interested.. haha. any answers?
No. I skimmed through your question quickly. I bet it's already been asked like 5 other times.
Right now, the HardSPL for our phone is being developed. Once that's done, we can flash other ROM's. Right now, we're stuck with the T-Mobile ROM. And there's no way to CID unlock yet, either. So, just wait for the HardSPL. That's all we can do. I got a PM going around, I guess they're looking for some native thing...Here's the message...
Don't forget to use the tool provided in this thread! The sooner we find somebody with a Hynix internal memory, the sooner we can have Hard-SPL on our Touch Pro 2's! If you've already done this, please ignore this message.
Do that if you wanna get the HardSPL going faster. I guess it's just like the lottery, whoever has the lucky device! That's how YOU can contribute to the community. Got it?
You can't because even if it's a stock rom, it's not customized for your device. Even if we ignore slight hardware differences, there's also the case of people with a European unlocked model being unable to install the Asian Rom because it's the "wrong" device.

You can, it would just have to be modified by the cook, making it a "custom ROM". That will be possible in, I'm guessing, a month, once HardSPL is working on our phones. It'll be way better with custom ROM's, but we gotta just wait.
Oh, I meant you can't right now. Not that it's impossible without the right tools and time enough. But to just download the rom and try to flash it without any extra steps or tricks isn't currently possible.
Hey Guys,
just wanted to tell you, that i am writting this post via my T-mo TP2 which i flashed via Goldcard to original HTC European Firmware.
Everything works perfectly fine!
If byou ned a Goldcard just contact cmonex.
Hopefully helped you

Or we can wait for HardSPL, lol. That'll be easier for most, and be less bothersome for the cooks.
But it's good to hear that you got a custom ROM! I hate that T-Mo crap
Yeah, T-mo ROM really sucks...
HTC ROM runs much smoother, consuming less RAM, and allowing me to use icq and skype, which is the biggest plus.
Now my TP2 really is (In my oppinion) the best phone on the market
True, can't wait to flash a chefs rom to get rid of all the bloatware!

[Q] ROM upgrade question??

hello guys
i have the HTC Touch Diamond (p3700) from rogers, and i was wondering since the phone is locked to the rogers network, is it possible for me to install a custom rom on the phone?? or do i have to do the sim unlock to do that??
sorry, this might be a noob question but i need the question answered as i had the O2 Xda Mini S before my HTC which was unlocked and this is the first time i actually purchased a phone from rogers since i get all my phones from out canada
thanks for your help guys, really appreciate it
i have a rogers HTC diamond as well.. and its got the winmob 6.1 5.2.19965 build 1.2.3 Year 2008.. the HTC website doesnt let me download the feb 2009 firmware as the device is not suitable..
a few simple Noob questions please..
1 - its working in my country with other network sims, all of them but the phone strartup says rogers... is my cell unlocked or not?
2 - will Hard Spl remove everytrace of rogers from my phone? (i actually wana debrand it from rogers to plain standard retail version)..
3 - Will any firmare upgrade using hardspl method work on my cell?.. and what will happen to the orignal FW? will it be erased permanently, or will it still be stored in a secret storage, so that it can be retrieved later when i plan to sell it later and rest to factory defaults?
Again, as a newcomer and a noob at the Xda dev scene, i would apreciate any kind of help .
thanks in anticipation..

Hi,
As far as I know, you should be able to install any ROM you want.
But make sure you have flashed Hard-SPL Olinex Unsigned,
just try the link in my sig and follow steps 6 - 11.
You still need an unlocker to make it possible using other networks though.

1. Yes your phone is unlocked, but you are using a rogers customized ROM. Try a different ROM to remove it.
2. No, Hard-SPL will not remove it. You'll need to flash another ROM to do that.
3. Firstly, if you are flashing/upgrading a new firmware (we call it ROM) then all data will permanently removed.
There are some packs to revert your ROM back to stock, but I don't know if there are any Rogers ROM's available on the net.
I hope I have answered all your questions.
Good luck both!

hey thanks a lot for the reply, finally someone replies, and this method will not brick my phone right?? since that is what scares me the most the fact that i mite end up bricking my phone
Thanks a lot Elcondor.. it solved half of my problems..
the only thing is,, i tried the 6.5 Prototype rom and rogers sill show up on the startup screen.. i flashed the splash screen, and still the lower 100pixels appear pink, out of no where..
and i simply wana DEBRAND the whole **** of rogers from it, so that i can upgrade the 2.0.0.00 rom version to the HTC official 2.0.43 version, but evertime i download from there, and try updating it, it says, Model ID not compatible..
is there a way to remove the entire rogers crap from it, and get it cleaned like a retail version?...
Thanks a lot sir..

No, it shouldn't brick your phone. In fact, Hard-SPL makes your device hardly brickable. Just try it, you will not be dissapointed. But, it's not my responsabillity if you brick you diamond, keep that in mind.

The splash screen is a harder part to do. You need Patchsplash to patch your splash screen. In that way, the splash screen should appear right. Note that the procedure to do that is pretty hard. Here are some more instructions if you didn't get it.
And about a Diamond stock ROM, take a look here. A 2.03.4 ROM including a new radio and the splash screen.
Good luck guys!

No prob my friend, xda-devs is to help each other.
To recommend a ROM is pretty hard, since there are very different kind of ROMs available.
Do you want a ROM with full Diamond2 experience, without WM 6.5(.x) try Gen. Y D2 R4.
Or, do you prefer a light WM6.5(.x) ROM, try BSB 6.5.1. It is pretty fast and light.
In a short time, I am going to release a 6.5.1 ROM (called Condor GT), with very nice graphics and still very fast.
Just give some a shot and you'll soon find out which ROM is the best.
BTW All the ROMS given in this thread are better that stock ROMs, just to be clear

[Q] Im New to this where to start and what to do?

Hi People,
I have only just found out that you can change the ROM's and all sorts of thing with My HTC Desire.
I have had my phone for 2 weeks, I'm on Virgin Mobile and don't have a clue.
I was talking to a guy at work who has one and he told me about you guys.
I have had a look around but can't see anything for the noob...lol (ME!!!).
I was wondering is anyone could give me some advice on where to start, What to look out for and any general advice on what to do and what not to do?
Any Help would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks
BG Macster (Mark)
First thing is to ask yourself why you want to change the ROM on the unit. Are you running out of space or are you just the type who likes to have more control?
I didn't root for months as the phon, out the box, does exactly what I want it to do. The only reason I've rooted now is to run the HD ROM but otherwise I'd stay stock.
You're going to get people reply with 'root it now, don't ever think of going stock, bla bla bla' but it's an individual thing, as is the choice of ROM. Read up on the stickied threads in the various forums and use the search button a LOT!

Welcome Mark.
EddyOS has provided you some excellent advice - don't rush into anything.
Mostly people do this as a kind of 'hobby' (including me) and you can end up with some cool stuff on your phone that HTC never intended you to have or have much later on. On the flip side, you can also wreck your phone too through doing the wrong thing or just plain bad luck. HTC can be a bit difficult in fixing stuff under warranty if you've been mucking about with your device, so be warned.
Everything you need to know about rooting and flashing (conjures up interesting images doesn't it?) is contained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
So read up, lurk about a bit in the forums and if you think you need to - have a go.
Good luck!
Thanks Guys Some sound advice there i will look around before i do a thing.
Many Thanks
First thing I would do, though, is check the ROM currently running on your Desire and get the RUU* file in case you ever need to go back to stock after rooting. To check, go to Settings>About phone>Software information and make a note of the software version.
You can then go to this site and see if the version you're on at present is available. If it is, download it:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo
*RUU = ROM Upgrade Utility, official package from HTC to install a ROM
