Nand not fully unlocking? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've done the nand unlock, 3 times in fact. It's working but i've got a weird bug. I have the fresh .2 rom installed and it comes with the newer wireless tether(2.0.2), but I want the one with WPA2(2.0.5 v2) in it so I downloaded it and installed it. It overwrote the one in memory, or so I thought until i rebooted and 2.0.2 came back. Did I do something wrong? I can write to system within android so I don't know.

i had issues with that ROM, trying to get adfree to work.
Silly question, but did you uninstall the prior version?
And, if you really like the ROM, maybe you could try to rm the version it has from /system/app (assuming that's where it's stored), and just push the newer version over.
Again, I'm not not positive about that. I was just going to wait for flipz to post a version that was fully compatible with the nand unlock.

I had 2.0.2, and now I'm using 2.0.5. I uninstalled 2.0.2 first and then installed 2.0.5. No problems so far.

sorry :/ I searched but it was late and couldn't find anything. With my last phone (vogue) we posted everything to do with roms/nand in the dev forum
I tried wiping, i tried removing it from system/app, it still comes back. I'll just wait for updates and such.

Change initial boot screen

I can't seem to find the answer to this. I installed a rom a long time ago and it changed my initial boot screen to one that shows PPC Geeks. Is there any way to change this or get rid of it? I have installed dozens of roms since then, but it never changes. There's probably a simple solution, but I can't find it...
Have you flashed a stock rom?
Just did, first time going back and it worked, thanks

Add/remove APK's from ROM ZIP

Has anyone got a guide on how to remove/add APK's from a ROM ZIP file? I found a few roms but they have some stuff that i dont require.
Is it done by using themepro?
Bit of a pointless thread when I've already answered your question...should've waited for me before doing this!!
how is this pointless? i too would love to know how!!!!!!
It was pointless as I already answered the question in the ROM thread it was first put in. As I'm in work I couldn't reply instantly...
Basically:
Unzip ROM, remove APK(s) from /system/app, add APK(s) to /system/app (or /data/app if you want them to be removable), rezip ROM, flash it
thank you for your fast response. just one quick question... when zipping back up, do i just use "store" ?
No you can use medium compression for a rom.

I just rezip it using the stock Windows 'Compressed Folders' option - seems to work fine
thanks you for the replies
Or open the archive in the Winrar and delete / add files directly.
I have extracted the ZIP, removed a few apks and then rezipped it but i cant install the new rom.
I am doing it through Rom manager/clockworkmod but it fails to install. Anyone know what im doing wrong?
If I'm already running a ROM can I remove files from the zip file and flash the same ROM and by this way get rid of the unwanted apps? Or do I need to perform a wipe first?

Don't know anything about that, so for me the easiest would be to flash the same ROM again. But will it work as I described it?

Sorry for digging such a old thread. For those who might be searching for the same reason, please note...
1. Removing the APKs from the ROM and Reflashing it won't make those Apps go Away from the Device. You need a Clean Wipe before and after the Flash. Sometimes you will need to Clear the Dalvik Cache as well.
2. Removing the APKs using ADB will not take out the APPs completely. You will also need to remove the corresponding .ODEX files if its Stock DEODEX files if otherwise.
3. In most cases, the editing the ROM typically requires you to Sign the ZIP file again. So you'd need the Manufacturer's Signing Key unless your device allows for unsigned ROMs.
just delete the app and flash, then see if everything is working
Tried deleting and reflashing

First, I am so new to this that noob is not a good title for me. I plan on learning all this, but for certain reasons, I need to get the Camera functionality off my HTC One M8. I figured that getting the software off would be easier and quicker than trying to disassemble the glue factory inside the phone. So I went to the unlockr to learn how. (Probably a mistake on my part.) According to him all I need to do is
2. In the app folder you will see all the .apk files for all the applications you have currently in the ROM. Simply delete the ones you do not want to remove them from the ROM.
3. To add applications, simply copy any .apk file for the applications you want to add into the app folder.
Then rebuild the ROM in Kitchen (99) and load it up. Now I have tried just removing camera.apk in Viper, InsertCoin, and Android Revolution. Everytime the ROM will not load, but the unmodified Viper, InsertCoin, and Android Revolution ROMs will load just fine. Should one of the files be edited? Or is there another way to disable the camera aside from tearing it apart. Any assistance while I try to learn this will be greatly appreciated.
As you can see, I have tried just deleting and reflashing, but the ROM won't install.

EddyOS, I dug up this post for several reasons. First you must have missed my noob comment regarding myself. Second, to stay on the good side of the xda moderators, I was reading all the please read before posting posts, which all say do a search first. The search dug up this post. Third everywhere I tried to post my question, the first thing that was mentioned on the forum was do not post questions here. Fourth, my mistake, I didn't realize I was on the HTC Desire forum, I take full responsibility for that. Fifth, I was just looking for help by getting pointed in the right direction in order to figure out how to fix my issue, and simply wanted to reply to a post on how to fix my problem that it didn't work for me. Obviously I now know it was the wrong platform and by your response, I take it that these two platforms will not have similar issues. Finally if I have offended your sense of what's right and wrong, I most sincerely apologize. I will confine myself to reading and not posting so as not to commit anymore faux pas.

[ROM]ROOTSide (In the Works. First Upload this week)

ROOTSide ROM
Base Flipside ROM with root/busybox/unknown sources enabled. Only thing different in this rom than rooting it yourself is you get to check/uncheck unknown sources. Yes, that means you can turn unknown sources ON and OFF! I have a clockworkmod recovery folder zipped up for distribution, but I want to post a full-fledged ROM zip file for the masses. PM me, and I will send you the ZIP file that I have right now.
What you get:
base install for the flipside (AT&T) with motoblur ready to set up. It is the exact same thing as doing a factory reset, but you get all the benefits of superuser with busybox and the addead feature of having unknown sources checkbox in the settings.
I will work towards a deoxed version this weekend as well.
No custom bootscreen (yet). No custom anything, really.
Almost There
I am currently in the middle of Deodexing the image. I have added in wifi tethering, and ensured it will have superuser and busybox pre-packaged. Next step is pushing this to my wife's phone and not having her get a pretty brick in return. If all goes well, I will be posting the image by morning light (CST).
Fingers Crossed!
Well
Things didn't go too well with my first build attempt. Appears to be a permission issue with the /system folder. I will sleep on it, and give it a second go in the morning. Sorry for the apparent "tease". If you want a faster build, I could use some other devs working with me.
Hey man, sounds like you're doing great! Keep it up...I already found a way to get the root with unknown sources checked, so i'm just gonna wait for the deoxed version! Hope it goes well as you try again.
Current Issues
unable to deodex the following:
/system/app/AABSync.odex
/system/app/blur-services.odex
Will try to load to phone without dodexing those two files. Hopefully all will go well.
Me too...good luck!!

Glad to see some work on this device, I love the form factor but it's obviously not very popular with devs...
Very interested to see this come around. I would like to streamline the wife's phone. Her battery life is a 1/3 of my rooted and flashed X10. Sadly though I am NOT a Dev nor even a cook.
I would have had something sooner, but I ran into issues not related to the ROM. Still working on it. Anybody have an idea for upgrading the CWM from the one we can currently use?
so I was curious, I was able to get to unlock mode with an sqlite thing and it worked just fine for me, but have you been able to knock out the bloat and stuff? cause it sounds like the makings of a custom rom lol
you know what the turtle said.. slowly but surely I will win this race

hi,i have installed arhd 6.3.1 yesterday and now i have problem with its internet!!!!when i connect to internet(wifi and 3g)it shows this massage to me"The application %1$s (process %2$s) has stoped unexpected"
i don't know is it for mods I've flashed or for rom??
and i had problem logging on with my google acount and my facebook app didn't work neither!!!!!when i try to open facbook it shows me that massage again!!!!
I was trying to help someone figure out this issue earlier with no luck. Sounds like a bug with the Rom. The only thing I didn't have him check was the kernel he was using. Can you tell me what kernel comes with the Rom. Also if it is cfs or bfs.

Hello,
You didn't say if you super wiped your phone before flashing new rom.
According to Mike it's optional but recommended.
Maybe that's the case?
Unless you did super wipe. Then maybe mods, you've installed, are causing problems?
I also flashed 6.3.1 yesterday and to be honest I don't have any problems with this rom so far.

That's why you search and read. I told you ylhow to find the issue and the first steps to trouble shoot it. I understand you are new but that doesn't let you not to your own trouble shooting first. Go back to my last post and read what I said. Try the TS steps and if that doesn't work run a logcat. A search will show you how to do it. To help you people here need to know excatly what you did. Every single thing and unless you try the basic troubleshooting how is anyone supposes to help you. As a member of a development site you are required to do your homework first before opening a new thread.

If you cant do a simple search maybe a custom rom is not for you. Custom roms will never be bug free and may require you to do some basic trouble shooting. No I will not tell you how to do the basics step by step. That is not what we do here. I just spent 10 sec searching on how to do a logcat and lookie what i found.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818084
Now in all seriousness. Flashing roms to your phone is not a simple thing. While yes we make it easy please understand what you are doing before you do it. Custom roms are not for every one. Sometimes it takes hours if not days to fix an issue that pops up. hours upon hours of reading. If you cant devote the time and energy needed to do this maybe you should really rethink running a custom rom.

Or simply this (for logcat) https://market.android.com/details?id=org.jtb.alogcat&feature=search_result&hl=en
But it seems like you had a bad flash. Try to wipe everything n flash again.
Re-download the ROM, if it says 6.2.0 not 6.3.1 you have an early version with a small error in it. It wouldn't cause the problem you've described but it does display the wrong version number.
Then when you have downloaded the ROM, make sure you check the md5 checksum to be sure the file downloaded correctly: http://bit.ly/s8AqiC
Then as others have said, superwipe and re-flash. Good luck.
I have super wiped and then flash my rom and then my kernel,it worked fine without eror!
I THink the problem was "Revolution_HD_6.1.x_batterymod_Glow_by_Nieass" this mod!!!now I have installed every thing except this mod and it works fine!!thank you all
but it is written 6.20 instead of 6.3.1!!!
the md5sum of file that i have downloaded is different from the md5sum that is written in arhd page!!!but the file name was the same!!!!!
I have to redownload it??
I have checked 6.20 & 6.3.1 that i have downloaded md5 checksum and their not the same!!!
when i flashed this new 6.3.1,all the apps that are updated as it tolled in arhd page!!!i'm redownloading it again tonight!to find out the issue
Yes, re-download it - but you don't have to superwipe again, just flash it over the top.
The changes from the ROM with the wrong version in "About phone" to the correct 6.3.1 zip were very small, and don't require a wipe before flashing. The main difference (possibly the only one) is the version number that displays in Settings.
And please don't use any more mods for 6.1.x or 6.2.x, only use versions for 6.3.x, as it can cause problems. I think Nieass said he will be updating his mods, so just keep an eye on his thread. Lots more mods will come for the new 6.3.x ROM, I'm sure, now that we have a final version of the official HTC base.
It's been written many times not to flash mods for older versions, so you could have saved yourself some pain by reading more on the forums first. Also as zelendel said, you need to provide more information explaining things when you have a problem. jerras asked in the 3rd post if you had flashed any mods, and if you had answered him then I'm sure someone would have been able to tell you what was wrong. People on these forums are very clever, but they aren't psychic and can't know what you've done unless you tell them.
Just remember - read as much as you can before you flash things, and if you ask for help give as much information as possible about what you've done. But I'm glad it's working for you now.
you are right!!
I'll give you more info if any thing happens again!!!!

JellyTime Opinions

Hello!
Im wondering about JellyTime, Is it good or bad/very buggy?
Since im very intrested about it i want others opinion.
Also im new to this rooting and new ROM installs.
Thanks!
Well, it is a beta Rom, so it will have bugs. I use it as my main rom knowing it has some minor flaws. If you need a full running device you might want to read the thread a little before flashing this. Most of us flashing this are "Flashaholics" and don't mind flashing a new version everyday if needed. I'd say flash it to see what it's like, and then make your own decision. Only you will know if you like it. This goes for any Rom.

Ohhh okay ^^ is it possible to install the rom at the sametime as i root? sorreh im newb at this :3:highfive:
After you root, make a backup of your rom. Before flashing (download rom to sd card-remember where it was stored), reboot in recovery.
Wipe data/factory reset.
Wipe dalvik.
Format all partitions (except sd card).
Install from sd card.
Flash rom (search for the download)
Reboot.
The above is sorta the correct way of doing it afterwards. Most of us don't do it.
Wait 5-10 minutes.
Reboot.
Configure all you need to configure.
Install your apps.
Reboot.
If you want to know the issues of a rom, read the op(first page) and read the last 5-10 pages.
All ics - jb roms have bugs. Won't be long till they are fixed.
Gb roms are stable on the most part.
Search for 4ext touch recovery, it's the prefered one.

Alright buddy, last one. After this you nees to start reading and searching for your own answers. Almost anything you can think of has already been posted.
It's called gapps. It's a zip file with several google apps. Flash the same as when you flash a rom. No wipe necessary.

Thanks man ive sorted it out tho :3 thanks for all the help ^^
jellytime is moving very fast towards stability...
Even now its beta 110 could be used as a daily driver if you ignore some minor things..Bluetooth is the only major problem in it..other than that,it is smooth and really good
TOTAL NOOB here been reading for months now [in the background] and just joined as i think ive finally worked up the courage to brick my HD.
I did see a question asking about "best roms" am after an easy stable and fully working combination tho, would love jellybean and fully understand its still in beta. I think more noobs would attempt stuff if it wasnt so damn confusing with regards options and bolt ons.
Ive been Useing JellyTime since yesterday and i love it, the only complaint i have at this moment is that when i lock the screen and unlock it after more than 5 min it takes up to 5-10 seconds for it to start. Maby fixed in new Beta 10. ill try install it later today or tomorrow.

The Desire HD/Inspire 4G are virtually un-brickable as long as you are not ENG-OFF. Once you start flashing roms it all will become like second nature. Everything will start to get easier(more confidence comes too ) Just keep doing what you are doing (reading the threads). I wish some people did this more before posting.

Bluetooth also is broken in beta 10..I still miss the smoothness of beta 7..that kinnda smoothness is yet to be seen on this new kernel

One of the fun things tho is that when i have my headset in my phone the "lock screen" is opening as soon i press the button, and without the headset it takes 5-10 seconds like i posted earlier :3

You need to use catchpa for about the first 10 posts. then it should disapear.
This ROM is outstanding. I started with Beta 8 and it was great–at least for the first few days before Beta 9 came out. And now that Beta 10 is out, I'm going to flash that ASAP.
Then great thing about this ROM is that Randomblame just can't seem to give himself any downtime, although he does find time to spend with his family. As long as the ROM works and he isn't going crazy from it, that's alright with me.
