I'm working on bloatware removal, and I'm trying to work a few things out.
One, I don't use Rosie, so is that ok to remove? Similarly, if I don't use Rosie, are any HTC widgets necessary for other dependencies especially weather, settings, or contact? Also, if weather widget is gone, is there any need for Weather?
Two, I use the HTC facebook for contact syncing and picture updating and such. Is FriendStream or SocialNetworkProvider interdependent with it? If so which or both?
Three, I saw that you can remove CheckinProvider and Clicker, what do those do and is there any risk with removing them?
Four, I have the 3d gallery or whatever it is, but I've read something somewhere about gallery removal breaking the camera. Is it if you don't have a gallery at all, or if I remove the HTC gallery?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm curious if anyone already has knowledge here. If no one answers, I'll tinker and find out things myself, but it could save me some time if someone already knows these things and would let me know.
EDIT: one further question, is SetupWizard required? I know the one with HTC prefixed isn't, but is the regular one for any reason required?

Well, I know about 95% of the questions at the moment are going to involve the new Froyo OTA question, so if someone can answer this I'd appreciate it lots.
Basically.. I installed the new Facebook app from the Market, and I synced my contacts (maybe it happened before that, I don't really know) but for some reason, it's come up with over 1700 contacts.. All the same people, just with lots saying "com.facebook.auth.login" when I go in to a specific contact.. For example, I've synced most of my contacts with Google aswell, which looks like the image I've uploaded..
But why is there 4x com.facebook.auth.login there? There really shouldn't be 1.. And is there any way to get rid of them?
Dan
i've got the same issue except some contacts just show 1 com.auth.... where as some others have over 8! this is on a desire by the way with the new 2.2 OTA update
I had the exact same problem. It's a conflict between the Facebook for Android and Facebook for HTC Sense apps. Seeing that I could only get rid of the FB for Android, that's what I did and now all my contacts are fine.
Is there any way to ditch the FB for HTC Sense? I don't want it, the Android app is much nicer looking and probably works better, too.
I am running Uncommon Sense v1.1. I would like to uninstall a few apps:
Chrome to Phone
Facebook
Friend Stream
Hulu
News
Peep
Stocks
Talk
You Tube
I am familiar with Titanium Backup uninstall method but have some questions regarding the frameworks that accompany these apps. Anyone know of a place that describes exactly what can be uninstalled for this list? It's easy enough to head into Titanium Backup and just uninstall these 9 apps but I think it leaves behind some components that don't really need to be there. But at the same time I don't want to uninstall something that could be critical to another app functioning correctly.
Any help would be appreciated.
I removed Friend Stream, news, peep, stock with no problems at all, just move them to your sd card incase you need to put them back. Dont just delete them.
U can change the extention of thefile from .apk to .bak and leave them in their original folder

Just wondering if it is possible. I am playing with it right now but I am not sure where the peep APK is.
Althought I don't understand why you would want to remove peep (One of the things pulling me against sense ), it's possible to just remove the APK from within your unpacked ROM folder. You should just go to system/apps/ and remove htc.twitter.apk or something (can't remember the name, but it's somewhat similar).
Anyways, the worst thing that could happend is that some sense-related files which depends on the peep client (I can't remember anything does, but just in case) will FC. If so, you have a little more job in getting the dependies removed.

Actually, I meant Twitter. I'd like to remove some of the stuff that isn't really needed.
Here's a list of what I'd like to remove on the HTC Desire Z
HTC Calendar
Friend Stream
HTC Likes
Music
News and Weather
Plurk
QuickOffice
I am just not sure what the file names are so that I won't spend the rest of the week during trial and error. Thanks though. If you have any idea what the APK names are, that'd be great!

Hi
The fact is that the only thing I like from the htc sense is the way it links my google contacts with the facebook contacts, almost automatically.
is there a way to have that on a rom without sense?
Thanks!
In short, no. There are some apps that try to do this however none of them work anywhere nearly as well. If the contact has the exact same name as they do on facebook it will happen in stock by itself, however it is not as good.
Damn, just as i thought.
):
Thanks anyway!
hi
i'm looking for a software that can MERGE the contacts from GOOGLE,FACEBOOK and the phone itself in a single contact (preferably a .vcf file), instead of LINKING them with others.
due to this, now my DHD has 750 contacts instead of 380 initially.
can anybody refer me any app for this??
Sorry, i have no answer for this, but a small question that I thought it would fit in here, so theres no need for a new thread.
Is it possible to link your own contactcard to an existing contact/synch your own contactcard with google contacts?
I already had myself in my OS X Adresbook and Google contacts, as a result i had myself in double on my phone, so I copied all data to the personal contact card and deleted the old one, but it seems like this one does not get synchronised??
Any ideas to do this without yourself twice in contact list?
Just got the M8 and love it as I knew I would. I had the M7
But the galleries for HTC are so different than any other makers. Samsung mainly
Samsung's gallery is straightforward. HTC? Not so much. I never used 100Media, didn't know what it was and my camera/videos/wallpaper folders worked fine
Now I have the Gallery on HTC. I know how to use the basics of it, hide files etc, and I see the Zoe's up top. My question for this gallery is: is there a way to isolate simply the pictures you have taken with a camera, not the videos with it, and not any other pics like my wallpapers. It seems like I get all of them or my vids and camera pics
What is more confusing is the fact that I don't need to use that. I started using Quikpic for the purpose of fixing the date, enabling sorting from date etc. I was told and experienced Android is very inconsistent with that. I love Quik Pik
But with the HTC it is a little confusing
I was told that HTC created the 100Media? ...by the app creator. Yet I could swear that I saw it on previous phones. Nexus, Samsung, etc.
In any case, the Zoe's are supposed to go there. I can answer my own question. They don't appear there because just as another phone that doesn't do Zoe's can't play a Zoe, nor can an app, correct
Help me understand if I changed things to be the way they should be, for this app, and for this phone
I just moved all my camera pics to 100Media I believe it works perfect. New camera pics show there. BUT there are about 5 or 6 files that I delete, could restart the phone and they come back.
Any ideas would be appreciated
