Last week, I had the problem, much reported here and elsewhere, of my contacts and calendar suddenly refusing to sync with Google. I damn near tore my hair out trying to solve the problem and whilst cursing and fiddling with my phone, I took time out to free up some space. The sync suddenly started working again, but I couldn't be sure whether the two were connected.
This morning I bought an app and this again tipped me into 'low disc space' territory. My sync also stopped. So, I deleted some more apps, lost the warning, tried to sync again, and... voila!
I hope this helps some of you.
bbb
Please forgive me for bumping this, but I think it may be useful to people who are having problems - as I was!
Thanks this helped me
I believe all syncĂng stops, not just contacts and calendar.
Gmail and the weather widget will stop too.
Possibly also Friendstream, Twitter and Facebook apps/widgets (I hardly use these, so I don't know for sure).
Too bad there isn't a notification for this, such as "Couldn't sync <list of items> because of low space."

I am wondering if anyone would have an idea why i am getting this error message - something like: "cannot DL contacts to phone, not enough memory. close some programs and try again" - when i try to sync to my outlook info from my company's exchange server thru activesync.
I am pretty sure i have all the server info correct because i had it wrong before and it wasn't getting this far as to TRY and DL the info. Now it connects and tries but it is stopping before it gets any. I know it actually is seeing my info b/c it says which specific contact it stopped on. This is a pretty fresh phone with plenty of storage memory and nothing running in the background to prompt this type of error message.
Any ideas?
try syncing 1 info store at a time... just do email, get that to sync then add another.
the contacts are the problem. email, calendar, and tasks all sync (separately). it's the contacts that cause the error and snag the full sync.
so then, you have trial and error
create another contacts folder and move half of them into it and see if the half remaining will sync
odds are you have a corrupt contact and it is "screwing the pooch" as it were
Very good advice!
It was very odd to be doing this, because the contacts causing the problem appeared to be clean, but there were maybe 10 contacts that kept snagging the process. One by one I pulled them out of the contacts folder and finally, SUCCESS!
To me, a strange occurrence, but your helpful advice taught me a nice lesson on problem solving (that i am almost embarrassed I did not think to do on my own). This phone is my mom's new work phone and I have a feeling even her IT support at work might have left her high and dry without a solution, so I am grateful and I know she is grateful. Thank you Radimus
No problem... I am one of my company's IT support staff and I am certain that most of my staff would have done nothing to troubleshoot the problem either.
I had a similar problem a few weeks ago where one of my calendar objects was corrupt and would crash my google calendar sync.
I'm glad that you resolved the situation and I'm certain that you'd have eventualy resolved it on your own anyway... This site is filled with exceedingly clever people... most of the lusers would be in AOL forums
I've just discovered that my Gmail app is not receiving or sending. I knew it didn't recieve a mail I got in my box at arount 10.30 BST (GMT +1) and even after a restart, it's still pretty dead.
Actually, I didn't get any emails since 05.21 BST. That was the earliest one this morning that I can check from my computer that I got. Yesterday, my Gmail app was fine.
I'm not sure if this is linked to Rob Pomeroy's issue but this isn't about Exchange ActiveSync.
Anyone else have this issue?
Yep, having problems also.
I'm in the USA and my Gmail doesn't seem to be syncing either..
It used to be I'd hear my phone been before I got a popup on my screen.. Now it's just not doing it's job.. I can click and make it sync, but it seems to not be pushing email to me anymore..
I am on TMobile, but on wifi..
I don't know what the deal is.. I haven't loaded anything new lately..
Same here in Germany.
Edit: Now it works. But it takes longer then normally.
Mine here in uk is not syncing, even if you try to manually sync its not getting any new mails, wonder what's up.
I had this issue a couple of days ago. Couldn't work out what the problem was, until I found out there was a known issue with gmail failing to sync if internal memory got to low.
I had about 4mb left, so i then tried deleting some apps until the low memory warning went away, and sure enough gmail started syncing again. Pretty ****ty issue to be honest, but hopefully wont be a problem once google let you install apps to the sd.
So if you lot have a low memory warning, try clearing some space, and hopefully the issue will go .
yes that was the problem for me, finding it hard to find apps i can delete got a good selection of stuff i use, roll on apps on sd in froyo.
My Gmail has been working fine, but then again I'm using Google Apps for Domains, so it is possible that the difference is there.
Regards,
Dave
Yes me too. Started on Monday Tuesday this week (10th May) For no reason Exchange sync stopped worked and I couldn't receive any emails on my SIM unlocked Desire on Orange UK. Can still send.
Sorry off post as it's not a Gmail issue, but I'm looking for a solution - seems it might be and Exchange problem...?
According to the status dashboard (see here), Gmail has been having problems the past 3 days.
Note that this link is live, so it will move according to the date and current status.

Dave

Was just about to post my coincidence about having low memory, deleting Google Earth, low memory icon disappeared, and mail came in. Funny thing is, my GTalk had stopped working as well until I had more space! Now that one I have no idea why it is linked to low memory.
Come on, why wouldn't these things cache to SD card.
On another note, for some of the others still having this problem, I know I had it once before and it had nothing to do with low memory. I just kept on getting mail about 30mins-2hrs late. Then the problem just disappeared.
I hate intermittant problems. Too hard to diagnose since you show someone, then POOF!!! the problem is gone. You are left looking like a technophillic hyperchondriac.

I don't believe it!!! Why on earth couldn't it just pop up a little warning box saying "memory low, sync will halt until this has been resolved"? Or even better - use the bloomin' SD card!!
Many thanks to fozzy for pointing this out, I was on the verge of resetting my Desire until I read this!!
Hey Guys,
Did a search, but couldn't see this specific issue come up.
Been trying to sync my Google Calender all morning but even though all the boxes are ticked and the little circle arrows show up next to the sync section, the phone just won't start syncing.
Never had a problem with this at all before and it's now becoming very frustrating.
I have no other syncs activated apart from the google calender and it's not working.
Anyone come across this issue or know a solution?
Problem solved.
Seems it wouldn't sync whilst I had low memory symbol up. (13.8mb available) so deleted app and now working.
Bloody annoying!
That's my main gripe with this phone. I used my hero for like 4 months and never saw low memory. First day I got my Desire, low mem.
Had to wait until I was willing to root, so now I have Modaco with APPS2SD+
Does anybody else have this issue, my facebook app works intermittently. One hour it works our refreshes while another hour out won't do anything when I refresh or it will give me an error saying it can't refresh. This happens whether our not I have auto update interval set to on or off.
It seems to happen only from thee news or notifications menus
Mine is doing that also. I dont get half my notifications anymore, luckily i get an email. Still a pain in the ass tho.
Perhaps a facebook issue?
I've tried a lot to trigger an update of information and i'm not getting anything unless I go into the app and refresh.... the widget hasn't updated since this morning
This had between occurring since the weeks after the froyo update for me. I searched high and low and can't find any info in regards to this issue.
Is the facebook app developed by facebook?
The official app is made by Facebook, and it does indeed suck with froyo. After finally figuring out it would update and sync inconsistently, I uninstalled it. And that's where my problems really started. It turned out even though I no longer had fb installed (even the one for sense) somehow it would still try and sync for hours at a time, draining the battery, and preventing my email and whatnot from syncing themselves. I noticed this because I noticed that my syncing icon would take forever to go away, and when I opened up running apps there would always be a fb process listed there. Had to go back to a nand backup from before I installed it. Haven't installed it since and never noticed that process reappear, or had any other issues with syncing. I have a bookmark shortcut to the touch version of the fb website, and I just use that now.
Sent from my blah blah blah blah
I became aware of the issue when I noticed that there were no photos in the People and Photo hubs - just little grey squares. Selecting them took me to a larger grey square then the message "Cant get picture. Try again later" My Facebook and Photo feeds still updated though.
I then went into settings and tried to manually sync Facebook but got error code 800723ff.
A search on the net showed that this was caused by the data connection being dropped, but this is not the case as I was able to sync my email addresses and Facebook updates from my friends were loading.
I removed and re-added the Facebook account at least 5 times. Pulled the battery and the SIM card...all to no avail. I really don't want to reset the phone and have to reload all my apps again. I did that about a month ago because of an error with the Marketplace. If anyone has any ideas or came across this before and knows the solution it would be greatly appreciated.
Another thing... this is something I was able to confirm - at least for my phone - when I deleted and re-entered the Facebook account. The time it takes to load the Facebook content and load a post with comments increases as time goes by. I first noticed this back in January when I got frustrated because it started to take the What's New in the People Hub over a minute to load content. On a whim I deleted the Facebook account, added it back in and lo and behold... loading content in 1 - 2 seconds. Selecting a post by one of the fan pages I follow, such as Yankees or Rangers, that had up to 90 comments loaded everything in about 4 seconds. Prior to this, loading a post with 9o comments was an exercise in frustration. I'm talking almost 2 minutes.
Before this latest error, I felt that things were a bit slow again. Not as slow as in December, but still a bit of a delay. Now, with the Facebook account freshly entered I am again enjoying speedy load times. I just loaded a post with 99+ comments and that took only 3 seconds.
I am worried that this is the norm. That as time goes by, loading content in the People and Photo hub will become progressively sluggish. It reminds me of WinMo 6.1 where I had to do a hard reset every 8-10 months because the system slowed to a crawl.
So, can anyone else confirm my findings? If this is indeed the norm, then this is an issue that MS needs to know about and correct. I guess I can delete/re-enter the Facebook account every couple of months but why should I have to? It's a minor pain in the ass to go through my contacts and relink them everytime I do this.
no such issues on my HD7, maybe you should bring it to service ctr, if the data connection is dropping, it maybe the radio issue...
I have a problem with some pictures of my contacts linked to facebook not wanting to update, none of the other issues though.

I've just signed up to say that I've been having the same problem recently.
I experienced the problem with Facebook photos as well, it lasted for about 3 days. Today it started working again, must have been some bugged update on Facebook side that's gone now.
I just noticed that the "what's new" feed in the Picture Hub suddenly has gone completely empty and just says "no news to share now". Very strange and annoying.
I had the grey squares pictures issue, I turned off the https Facebook Account setting and they came through straight away.
Well I don't use facebook integration in contacts.
I rather use the app for that.... I visit FB maybe 10 minutes a day.
For weeks I had been frustrated because a few of my contacts would not appear in the People hub, nor link to their Facebook counterparts. It turns out there is a Facebook privacy setting that allows a Facebook user to prevent "platforms" from accessing their data. Thus, the Facebook app will show them, but the integrated Facebook support will not even show them as your friend. There is no workaround or solution for this, other than to ask your friends to turn this setting off in their privacy options. I understand this isn't the exact issue the OP is having, but it seems to me this thread is full of Facebook/WP7 interaction information and I thought it may help others who are experiencing the same problem.

Thanks! I completely forgot that I had turned that on. Turned it off and it works again.
I have big issues with the Pictures Hub.
I have not been able to upload any photos to either skydrive nor facebook for days now, and it doesnt even show my pictures from facebook, the only thing I have there is "Camera Roll" and "Saved Pictures".
I get the message "We cant upload pictures at the moment, try again later".
I have two Omnia7's right now, it works just fine on one, not the other.

Hey! I'm running into the same problem as described by the OP and I'd like to try out your solution - I'm just not sure what you mean by the https facebook account setting. Where could I find that?
I currently have secure browsing as disabled when viewing my facebook account in a pc browser through facebook's own website, under account settings > security
No problems like what's described in the OP but I did notice that not as many posts are displayed as before.
