I thought I'd take it upon myself to create a thread to help everybody find where everything is in the new forum style...
This is not the thread to post bugs found in the new style. That thread is located here.
Where are the page links?
They're where they normally are:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
or you can use the ones on the left hand side at the top of the threads:
Where is the link to the User Control Panel?
In the navigation bar at the top:
Where's the search box?
Up in the top right hand corner of the forums:
How do I get back to the news page/XDA Portal?
It's in the Nav Bar, second link:
Where is the New Thread button?
Same place it was:
Where is the Sub-Forum Search?
It's at the top, right-hand corner of the Threads section:
What are the links with the Gears and Box with the arrow?
The gears one is the advanced search and the box with the arrow is the Log Out button:
What are the "Forum Tools"?
The Forum Tools is a drop down menu that consists of links to Post a New Thread, Mark This Forum Read, Subcribe to This Forum, and View Parent Forum:
Where's the Donate(to XDA) button?
Right dead center of the NavBar:
How do I change the style to the new one or revert back to the old one?
Scroll down all the way to the bottom, and click the arrow on the box that has the name of the style. Like this:

Q: Where are the forum rules?
A: At the top of every page, next to the twitter and facebook links.
Q: Where does the "News" button take you?
A: The portal.
Q: Where is the Member List?
A: Very bottom-right of every page.
Q: How do I view the admins / moderators of the board - I used to use the "View forum leaders" button at the bottom of the Forum Index.
A: Same place as the Member List - very bottom right.
Q: How do I know know a thread's got unread posts?
A: It will be bold - same as the old theme.
Q: How do I know a forum has unread posts?
A: The (>) next to will be White for "Read" and Brown for "Unread".
Hint: Did you know you can collapse the forums on the Index? Just click the "^" at the right of the forum name and it will be collapsed and saved. Everytime you visit XDA the index will be considerably smaller.
Hint: Did you know that the "find your device..." box can navigate you to any forum (not sub forum) on the site. This is now on every page.
Another Hint: Don't like the big front page? Try "Compact View" from the Index page (at the top in the Breadcrumb bar).
Let me know if any of you guys need any more help with/finding links and stuff..

Hi xda-dev,
I just thought if we could have us thread owners to have a standard button design for a specific thread that we can use/link in our blog post or websites?
Just a thought ..
And, while on the subject: Is an RSS feed going to be made avail in new version ?

I think that's a great idea. But could you clarify: Are you speaking of the same basic concept on news sites where various social-media icons are avail to auto-repost? (twitter, digg, etc)... Or do you mean a button that performs the action of copying the thread's link & title to the clipboard, then being able to paste it anywhere on your own site, manually, into a blog post etc?

that's what I meant. Just a simple idea, thought it would be nice .. but if you could think of better implementation, then it'll be great!

Hey that's a cool graphic, I like that.

SLIGHTLY OFF-TOPIC:
I'm WAY behind the curve in using twitter, and how it integrates with what seems like 1000 different twitter-based apps... And twitpics, i'm even less clear on how and WHEN to use it, and if it's used WITH twitter, or a parallel service to twitter for just sharing photos in real time.
ON-TOPIC
So I'm not clear if your posting that image on twitpic is literally an example what you want to be able to do, or are you saying there are apps for either phone or desktop computer that will generate a template graphic as well a specific thread title linked? So, in your picture, is the thread title generated as part of the graphic itself? Or is the thread title displayed in HTML on top of the template graphic?
I am really confused but I like the way it looks! please explain further...
Okay, so now I see this, in your prior sig file.. and I see that it is a graphic that gets generated with the title of the thread rendered as part of the image... so i just have never seen these used -- but I love the idea...
So for this example here:
tell me how that gets generated -- at http://www.twitstamp.com ? and then when you apply that generated graphic, how do you also code the link to the thread, in this example?
even more confused and feeling so behind the times !
well whaddayaknow -- this looks like a pretty cool web app ! ---
so are you speaking of ...
(1) You're here at XDA-devs, and you're on, for example, this very thread...
(2) You'd like to see a simple small graphical button, as part of "thread tools" or somewhere within the thread page layout, that when you click on it, it grabs the Title of the thread, and the link, copies it to pasteboard...
(3) then you go to a site like, for example, TwitStamp.com, and insert what's on the pasteboard into the "input box" at Twitstamp...
(4)... thereby generating a graphic with link that can be embedded anywhere on a webpage etc, exactly as you would grab embed code from a YouTube video, or from a photo at photobucket.com, stuff like that?
(5) Is this kind of small-file-size "picture status" thing being rapidly used as a way to post updates, but using twitpics? So that after you generate the graphic, you post it to twitpics? And those who subscribe to your feeds can see "oh cool, that sounds like an interesting thread, i want that for my phone"... and so they would click on it and link to the thread here at XDA?
even more confused by all the permutations of pasting what where... hah hah.
Is this what you mean exactly, or is it close, or is this just one of many examples of what you are envisioning?
sounds & looks interesting....

behind those words says something.
am not trying to insist the idea or any way of enforcing it to make it like a xda-dev standards.

Sorry for wasting your time.
Thanks anyways and please Senior Member.. delete this thread too..

Everything I have written has been enthusiastically positive about what you're saying. I'm just trying to understand if I'm following what you are thinking. You took all of those posts the wrong way, I think.
I really am interested in learning about how people are using these kind of twitstamps... I went and registered. I don't know what else to say, I like this idea -- and I really would like for you to answer my questions, all of them, because if I "getting" it correctly, I like it. But I may not be understanding AT ALL the way *you* are seeing your idea. So please, explain some more! I'm just another member like you, that's all. We're just talking about your idea.

One time I got five url's between the forum page and the thread page. And clicking the forum link to go back is annoying as you always return to Page 1 of the forum instead of the page you were on.

From orb's response they don't care. He suggests in an offhand way to install another browser other than internet explorer.
I'll forward this to our Server admin and if there is a problem to solve XDA will do the best to fix it as usual.
In the meantime this thread will be closed.

1. The problem is unchanged for me; I am still seeing the issue, where (just for the sake of clarity):
"the issue" == a. hitting the back-button doesn't appear to change the displayed page when viewing any page of xda-developers.com with Internet Explorer;
b. depending on what page you are viewing, hitting the back-button might or might not change the IE history-list that you see when you click on the little blue triangle to the left of the URL entry text-box drop-down. Ditto for the IE history-list that you see in the IE history "explorer bar" that you get when you choose to "View By Order Visited Today."
I am using IE 9.0.8112.16421.
Note 1: FWIW, my browser doesn't seem to go to any pages in the domain that is the title of this thread. The unexpected pages in my history list (and there are LOTS of them) are all in one of the two following domains: statc.liftdna.com and mediaservices-d-openxenterprise.com.
Note 2: The title of this thread doesn't really help very much those people who are searching for answers to the problem that the back-button doesn't work. Since there seems to be almost a fetish on this forum about the pleasures of searching for previous posts, perhaps the title of the thread can be changed so that more people (and apparent non-people such as newbies like me) will get more satisfaction from their searches?
Note 3: there is another thread on the same topic that someone has opened up (appropriately enough) in the forum:
AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Q&A.
The thread is called "IE Back Button within forums".
Being a newbie, I can't post in such a development forum and point him to here.
Hello New Users! (I prefer the term "New User" rather than "noob" ) This is a thread on some functions you can see whenever you make a post on a thread.

Yes, its because the image URL is linked from attachments. I don't know how, but the URL (in attachments) changes from time-to-time. ie,
the original url : http://dl.xda-developers.com/attachdl/69808bc1673cb4d05bfb5048e208c9b0/506d83a1/1/3/7/4/9/4/2/asd.jpg
Now the URL is : http://dl.xda-developers.com/attachdl/fb23e0b5ec01b7962ec67603493c4dae/506da0aa/1/3/7/4/9/4/2/asd.jpg
So it would be better if the image is uploaded in Image hosting servers like Imgur or Imageshack or even dropbox etc.

[HELP THREAD] Ask ANY Question. Noob Friendly.
There are a lot of people joining XDA on a daily basis, and there are a lot of repetitive questions being asked which clutter up the Development and 'Q & A' threads. Point them here. Feel free to ask or answer questions. The idea of this thread...

A really useful feature I've stumbled on from within the app, is direct Web search of any highlighted text, ...works with translation also.

Log-in Issues Logging in the app
Login to XDA in Default Mobile browser.
Change your password if it's been a while,
older passwords have been causing issues with the app.
Download the app.
Open app
Tap Get Started.
Tap LOG IN
Tap Authorize
Select Just Once has worked best for me.
That should be it.
Two-factor issue
Browser issue
Troubleshooting Sign-in
If log-in fails and you are seeing 2 apps to choose from like this.
Spoiler: Screenshot
Try selecting the 2nd app, it may take several tries before log-in is successful.
If sign-in fails and you selected Always, you will need to go to settings/apps and remove Open by default setting.
If the app will not stay open or gets stuck, try rebooting the device.
If you can not log in, try selecting the guest option and sign in inside the app.

For anyone looping at the "Authorize" part of the login process...
Basically clear the app defaults, then login, Authorize then pick one of the "Xda app" to open. Do not set as default just yet. If it loops back, login again, this time pick the other "xda app". It should log you in.

That's not what I'm asking, but okay. Guess it's a no
I go into a thread, and click to search the thread and it takes me to a search outside of the thread for the entire fkng forums.
I noticed this the other day and thought it was me being stupid. Super annoying

Ah ok, so now you have to memorize or copy the thread name so you can go out of it to search a bunch of fields to find a keyword in that thread. Very inconvenient.
It's definitely a pain for now! I prefer my Chrome browser Google Search until there's a better way on XDA...

Change to "This forum" or "This thread" depending on what you're looking for.
Really a question that should be posted here too...

Anything to do more with the site than with the phones. Feature requests, announcements, praise, moaning, etc. :)

We're talking about the "search this thread" button, which straight up doesn't work
OP, I agree. The new format is annoying. However, it does work, once you figure it out. It took me awhile:
1. Click on "Search This thread" (top right, if you are on desktop)
2. Click the "X" to close the search suggestions.
3. Now you can actually search the thread.
wow, thanks between the two hints and my experimenting, i now understand both of workarounds for the crappy implementation of search this thread function.
summarizing in either method of tapping "search this thread" button or the top of page search box switched from "everywhere" to "this thread"...
must use the "search" button instead of magnifying glass to run the search (don't hit enter on kb either).
this means for "search this thread" button, must tap the X to close the stupid sitewide search result suggestions, to be able to see that "search" button. (also for top of page search if zoom extends it too far down)
hope that helps.

Yep, my go to! Cheers
the google search method seems like an unnecessary hassle since the built in "search this thread" functions as expected (as long as you make sure to X out of the suggested results and tap the search button (don't hit enter or use the magnifying glass button).

Many forums are the same way.
No big deal... make use of those nasty webcrawlers
XDA really screwed up the implementation of search in Xenforo.
It can be so much better/easier with a few tweaks.
Xenforo 2.0 had a better search out-of-the-box but 2.2 can be made better with just a few clicks.
I really dislike the Xenforo they built here.
I'll actually search Google for help before I come here and search XDA.
And I would pay a dollar if XDA would add a roll-eyes "like" option.
LOL it could be useful!
