Coming from a Nexus One: A couple of questions. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I moved to an area where T-mobile and the N1 was not cutting it unfortunately. So the EVO was the first pick for me when it came down to switching carriers. I love how the phone looks and feels but I really don't like HTC Sense.
As of right now I don't really have plans on rooting my phone but I would really like to get rid of all the HTC stuff. I am using the stock launcher but I would like all the other HTC apps to go back to stock as well. Some of them are okay, but I just prefer the clean and simple look of the stock Android OS.
Can everything be removed through Settings: Applications: Manage Apps? And can I chose to go back to the HTC stuff if I ever felt like it?

i think that the best you're going to be able to do right now is to pull all the widgets off. you really can't just 'remove' sense ui. it's integrated pretty deeply.
i'm also off an n1, and there are a LOT of things i miss, dev wise. however, i do love the size of the screen (even tho it looks totally washed out and drab in comparison).
you'll be fine. just pull the widgets off. get a new launcher off the market, or a whole new home.

Thanks for the reply. I am interested in how you have your EVO at this time. Any suggestion on the launcher? Sense isn't bad... it's quick and does the job, but it just feels bloated and kinda cluttery for me.

I like how integrated it is with contacts and some other minor stuff even when using another launcher such as adw.launcher or launcherpro. I'll just have to build a custom rom for myself eventually when I gather more knowledge, and hope all goes well.

unfortunately you can't. sense isn't just bloated the apps crammed on the phone, but it's also hardcoded into parts of the operating system itself. you can change the launcher, but you can't ever have a fully vanilla android experience until one of the genius devs here creates a rom based on something like aosp. the good news is, when that happens, it's very likely froyo will be the basis for it.
i agree though, i love the clean, fast, simple, "real" android look over the busy, bloated, steampunk contraption that is the sense ui. i think it's stupid htc doesn't offer a plain android version, as plenty of people have no use for all the crap they force on us.
fortunately the evo handles all that overhead well, unlike the poor hero that was reduced to a crawl under the weight of it.

That's a real shame. You should definitely be given the option to use the standard Android OS. Oh well, I havent even had the phone 24 hours. I should get used to it. : )

yes it does I try not to look at my nexus one screen anymore because looking at it and then looking at the evo while I love the 4.3" the colors are so much richer and blacker on the nexus one. I am going to miss it once I sell it but I'm sure once I get use to the evo and don't have an nexus one to compare it to wont be so bad.
I too hate sense and can not wait for a froyo rom to be built once AOSP for 2.2 finally comes out.

you can just turn it off for now:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTSXHJRLppU

How much for the N1?! lol
But I guess the best you can do is wait for an original 2.1 or 2.2 ROM to come out for the EVO.

After giving the phone a little more time, I am getting used to it. It's a good phone, I just wish all the HTC stuff was optional. I can just blast through anything on my N1, so it's hard to get used to. I got a nice quick sale on the Nexus, so at least thats a plus. : )

rooting, why or why not

i would like to know which benefits i would get if i root my phone
why should i do it or why not
an if it makes sense, were can i find a howto
thx
Are you serious mate? Its a sticky at the absolute top in the Desire Android Development Forum. Maybe you browse around a bit next time (or use the search) before opening a new thread (about the 1 Mio'th one about this topic)...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
Rooting gives you the ability to flash custom roms, these are generally built ontop of released or customized version of stock roms, this means you don't have to wait for a feature to be sent to your phone over the over the air upgrades, it also means you can customize your phone fully,I.e. custom icons down to the base level stuff like fonts and batery icons you can also use apps that require escalated permissions such as the terminal app and things like screenshots, cache cleaning.
Reasons not to root, warranty you loose it.
Bricking if you mess up you can potentially have a nice peice of plastic that does nothing.
Reliability the quality of custom roms has come along dramatically since the first rom but you are after all flashing some one else's project these roms are very well done and coded to a professional level but they simple do not nave the quality testing and reliability of the stock roms as these are often personal projects.
And guides on how to are frequent on here as are the reason to and not to root, look above.

so if i want to install a custom Android ROM (2.2 Froyo) with Sense i must root my phone...
and the other thing is, to remove some apps i don't need.... like stocks
but if i'm happy as it is there is no need?
well thx for the info
think I'll get to know my cell phone first then a little
almost have it for 3 weeks now =)
just to be able to load a rom without the sense and worth it!
Try launcher pro in the market and betterbut and I think you will be happy unless you want wireless tether and the other benefits, most sense users don't like the UI that's all.

the launcher of sense is not very bad.
the really bad are the internal apps: calendar, contacts...
i root and koad a non sense rom, and i have a nexus but without the hardware nexus bugs
Hi guys I'm new to android... coming from an iPhone. I just want to know why some people hate sense UI? I just had my Desire for 1 week so I don't have an idea why some people prefer stock android instead of the sense UI. For me I think the sense UI is nice. Can you guys enlighten me. TIA!
I think you will find that most Desire users like Sense, but in a "technical" community such as this you will find a reasonable proportion of people who prefer stock and/or other launchers.
Personally, I think Sense improves the Android user experience and that's a good thing. I had stock on my G1 (obviously), and got a Hero (which has Sense). If I'd wanted a stock experience, I would've bought a Nexus One over the Desire, but I think Sense is great and I prefer the Desires hardware anyway.

Dave

Welcome to Android. Nice to see you've broken the shackles of Apple.
I'm not sure why to be honest. Sense, in my opinion, makes the Android experience very smooth and feels nicely polished. There are more widgets, home screens etc...
I can only speculate that people like to be different and maybe feel that Sense somehow "weighs down" the phone with unnecessary baggage. At least on the older slower devices maybe.
Given that you can set the phone to launch the stock Android experience without Sense anyway, I'd say it's a mystery why anyone would be anti-Sense.
Those people do prefer life without it, I too would love to know your rationale.
Cheers,
HRH

Thanks for the welcome. I changed my phone to android cause the last three previous phone I had was iPhone 2G, 3G, and 3Gs and I just had it with Apple and their iTree . With all the limitation, the jailbreaking, the iTunes crap... and add all that to the new iPhone 4 antennagate problem and you feel like you just wanna kick the crap out Steve Jobs face. hehehehe
Anyway, I think maybe you guys are right... maybe It's because of some older HTC phones that are not quite on par with the Desire specs that makes their sense UI experience a little bit problematic. I've been playing with my Desire since I got it non-stop (except when I'm at work of course) and I like the sense UI very much with all those additional widget and additional option from HTC. I don't see any lagging or any problematic situation caused by the UI itself... and it's because of the powerful specs of the Desire itself.
Well, if anybody else has a better idea on why... based on their experience and all. Give us some feedback.
Cheers guys!
Oh and by the way, I'm loving my new HTC Desire... I just wish the rumored HTC Desire HD is available already cause I wanted to get a bigger screen for browsing. But the Desire now is amazing... what more when the new Desire HD is available. But what the heck... as Steve Jobs said "No one is going to buy those big screen" right? (sarcasm). hehehehe

Not sure I should keep new Nexus-S over my EVO ?

So my Wife needed a new phone, and get out of T-Mobile, and on to a good family plan. Since I was with Sprint already the last year with my EVO 4G, I said get the Nexus-S this weekend, will be a great little phone compared to her old school MyTouch 3G.
So we went to the Sprint store my buddy is a Mngr at, and I got the bug and also picked up a Nexus-S 4G, and set us up on a killer family plan.
- What I like about the Nexus-S;
Lightweight and fits in pocket easily
Screen is beautiful
Battery life is longer than rooted EVO
Pure "vanilla" Google OS
2.3.4 Video Chat for the Wife and kids
- What I don't like;
Miss the "Sense UI"
4" curved screen, makes it feel much smaller than the EVO's 4.3" flat tablet like display.
No Sprint Visual Voicemail
My EVO 4G was rooted with Myn's RS 5, and I LOVED it, but the phone felt a little too thick and bulky at times, and heavy in the pocket, especially with Summer now, the phone does not fit in a short sleeve pocket like the Nexus easily does. And even with netarchy kernel and all battery life still was crappy compared to rooted Nexus-S.
But I seem to really miss the "Sense UI" the most, just a bit of a shock getting used to vanilla Android. I liked the Sense e-mail app, for non gmail accounts. The dialer and contacts was nice. The keyboard was sweet with arrows keys. Stock Visual Voicemail was great.
Not too sure what to do now ? Keep the Nexus-S and wait for CM 7.1 ROM that supports 2.3.4 and see how I like that ? I was a big fan of Cyanogen back on my Nexus-One, but then got turned onto Sense. Or go back to EVO and upgrade to EVO 3D next month and wait for Myn's ROM on that beast ?
I'm not sure if anyone can answer that for you..I mean if you really really want sense ui that bad you'll have to get a HTC phone..
Only you can decide that...Personally I love vanilla android but thats just me.
I agree with MrDSL. I've also become a huge fan of Sense and the perks that come along with having the Sense UI. It would be hard for me to go to vanilla Android now, as well. Me personally, I'm sticking with HTC for the Sense UI because I like it that much. It would take a behemoth of a phone made by another company that puts the Evo to shame, and I don't see that happening anytime soon.
Evo 3D with more power and with the bigger and better Sense UI?
Yes, please.
Personally, if you can't get used to the vanilla stock os [I personally like it] I would just wait till the Evo 3D and get it with the sense 3.0 and let myn have at it.
If you like Sense UI so much waiting for CyanogenMod is absolutely pointless... They ONLY do AOSP....
Might as well head back to your Evo... Or give LauncherPro Plus a shot, as its the closet thing to Sense you'll get.
I am getting much more comfortable with my Nexus-S 4G today, after a full work day of use. Loving the feel of it in the palm of my hand, rests so nicely, and the screen is gorgeous. The battery life on the Nexus is amazing so far, being unplugged for 6+ hours, and not even half drained yet, at 60% now, and that's with tons of phone calls and plenty of texting as well as web browsing. And still not even rooted yet, so no custom ROM's or kernels, can only imagine the battery life with a good netarchy
The EVO to me is borderline tablet big, not just the 4.3" screen, but was also very thick and heavy. Not a fun phone to carry around in light shorts in the Summer. But sometimes that was nice, making it feel like a mini laptop, with lots of space to work with, and the Sense e-mail and contacts were very well designed.
But the more I am with the Nexus-S, the more I like it. yeah I misses the Sense UI, but getting used to vanilla is nice too Just waiting for CM 7.1 to come out, and then this phone should really be amazing.

This. And if you love the Sense UI as much as I do, you'll get that nagging feeling you're missing something even weeks after you've gotten used to vanilla Android. I find myself flashing CM7 for the speed and newest Android versions/features.
But after a week or so of tinkering, I found that I was just trying my damndest to make it like Sense then end up flashing a Sense rom. It's not just the widgets, but the social integration, phone-wide theming, and all the options. I say return the Nexus-S and wait for the Evo 3d. It can't be much more than a month away, and it'll blow the pants off of the Nexus S, stock Sense "bloated" and all.
edit: Oh yeah, if you decide to keep the Nexus S, there's tons of apps/widgets/launchers that'll replicate the overall feel of Sense. Obviously you won't get the little things (like how the in-call screen will show you your contact's most recent social network update) but you can get pretty close. For CM7 I'm using Launcher Pro Plus for the widgets and Fancy Widget Pro for the Clock.

Once you become accustomed to the widgets of sense, there really is no replacement. the messaging widget, email widget, the calender widget, etc are all things you can't really get with a stock android experience. i mean sure there's handcent and chomp sms, but they're buggy and screwy and you have to pay to use them without ads (which is freaking stupid).
I still can't find an email widget that's as simple and easy as HTCs widget. Same with the calender widget.
Plus, the friend stream and twitter updaters that are themed to the phone. It kind of sucks to theme a phone black and blue and then have to deal with their opaque white backgrounds, it's an eyesore.
The nexus S is a great phone (despite the lack of an sd card and being made entirely out of plastic), but if it's sense you crave, I'd go with the quoted poster's idea, return it and get an Evo 3D. All the badass, PLUS SENSE!
After reading the replies, having a hard time making a decision. The Nexus-S is growing on me, but it's the little things, like making a call to a vendor just now, I need to press 1, to get to the office personal, with the Nexus I have to press dial pad, then press 1, but with Sense the dial pad is there with the contact info at same time. Just these crazy minor things it seems Sense just got right, and that vanilla Android is still lacking.
My main beef with the EVO was the size, too thick and heavy. I have seen the Thunderbolt, and that looks more streamlined, and a hair bit thinner and smaller ? Or maybe they just designed it to look slimmer. If the EVO 3D matches the slick look of the Thunderbolt, will be very tempted to go that route instead.

It'll be about the same size (same size screen at least). It won't have the kick stand so that might allow a thinner design but otherwise it'll be about the same size.
I think the Evo is a little big too, but for me there's far more problems with the Nexus S than a few tweaks for me.
I just got a nexus s personally its not all that imo. I'm probably going to sell it when something else comes out. I prefer my evo any day.
I just couldn't do without hdmi and external storage. I also don't get the appeal of stock android, sense UI is awesome. I love my Evo and only a better Evo could replace it, thus I'm waiting for the Evo 3d.
With my current setup battery life isn't an issue, it gets me through an entire day and I haven't had to charge my phone b4 I goto bed for months (used to be 2x charging a day).

I have big hands so the evo fits perfect, I'm not crazy about its curves I really like the square (manly) look of the evo, no hdmi, and no removable storage (I hold alot of movies). I will say that the battery life is amazing! I'm pretty sure in about 2 months ill sell it and probably get the evo 3D.
Going back to my Sprint store tomorrow evening, return the Nexus-S and get my EVO "Myn's RS 5" back from the dead
Didn't realize how much I have become accustomed to "Sense UI" The default e-mail app is perfect, the dialer...contacts...calendar...Going to "Stock" Android OS was a bit of a shock, and I did not hate it, but for sure not worth keeping. Sense is great for business too, just short cuts to everything, the little things make a big difference.
And add Myn's AWESOME ROM to the EVO, and it becomes a Sensation
I have my name on the list for the EVO-2 ( EVO 3D ) Here's hoping Myn gets one too and get a nice new ROM in the oven
ok...another day with the Nexus-S, and it is growing on me finally
Several apps I needed to install to get rid of the lame stock ones.
- #1 was "Better Keyboard 8", a much improved keypad for texting, e-mails, etc...larger buttons, smarter layout of keys, and all black themed.
- #2 was "Go SMS", hands down the best text app, and with a cool black theme, blows away the boring stock Messaging, very customizable.
- #3 was "YouMail" Makes it just like the stock Sprint Visual Voicemail on my EVO.
- #4 was "Opera Mini" web browser, night and day faster than the stock internet, very smooth and no lagging.
- #5 was "On Call End" when done with a phone call, bring you back to home screen, instead of dialer.
- #6 was "Dialer2" an all black themed dialer, but shows the recent calls on top with keypad below, shows how long ago the call was made or missed, more like the "Sense UI" dialer.
- #7 was "Beautiful Widgets" a must have for the coolest clock/weather screen.
And several other apps, but these seven above were must haves, and make my Nexus-S much improved, and closer to the "Sense UI" stuff I missed from my EVO, and a lot of these apps have option for black theme which I really like on this phone.
But still the one MISSING app I can not find anywhere is a good default e-mail client for the non @gmail accounts. The default Sense UI e-mail on the EVO was ****ing spot on perfect, wish there was something in the Market to match that ?
You can try the K9 Email app. its not glossy fancy, but it does the job well.
Also on your Nexus S, how do you like not having the notification light? [Not being a smart ass.]

Sense: You hate how she looks but love her qualities.

I hate Sense but I love SRS enhancement. Sense ROMS always drain fast for me and are memory consuming. Anyone suffering the same pain as me?

I came over from a Galaxy S 4G and I knew what I was getting when I switched. I must say now that I have it I really hate sense!! I knew there was an MIUI available so the sense only lasted about 20 minutes after un-boxing.
Really? I'm the exact opposite. AOSP is quick with good battery life but I can't stand it. It feels incomplete to me. Sense is the best to me, even though it might be a little slower and use more battery.
On a side note why would you want a HTC phone if you dislike Sense?
I am in agreement with you on this, the sense are a little flashy out of all the roms. They also have a lot of extra mods and different settings, which to me gives it a heavy feeling. The asop and akop aren't heavy at all, and they still have the same customization options that I want, yet very easy to use. I love my ICS, I loved CM7, i always find myself using an asop over sense

I did the exact same thing although I had to wait for the alpha rev for windows back in July. Anyone remember that?? Don't get me wrong HTC makes beast phones. But STOCK sense is garbage. If devs didn't put their custom tweaks into their roms I think a lot of people wouldn't use them.
I dunno about stock sense being garbage. I came from a Droid Eris though which is why I probably like sense now. Sense 2.1 ran at a crawl on that phone so AOSP Rom were the o ly way to make that phone run good. With the dinc2 though, I've noticed that sense ROMS just run better than aosp. The AOSP ROMS seem to lag after being on without a reboot. The sense ROMS don't seem to do that.

Sense has some amazing widgets and I like most of the interface, but CM7 and MIUI roms are so much quicker. Luckliy I have Boot manager, so I can use on rom for a week, till I get bored, then switch it up. I no longer have to make backups and reflash. I always come back to sense though, mainly becuase of the widgets
Well the thing with Sense is if you come from a history of using it your going to like it no matter what. I mean I got the Droid Incredible 2 because it was free for me. I tried handling sense but replaced it after a week. This phone was the first HTC phone I ever had. (First Android for me was the Motorola Cliq XT since my intro to the smartphone world was through the iPhone). Just Sense is not like ICS where I just recently came from. And ICS was my baby.
I LOVE Sense!! And, for me at least, it has better battery life than AOSP ROMs although it is a little slower.

Sense better battery life than aosp? No way.
I came to the dinc2 from an og droid, and I have to say I would take sense over aosp any day. And yes, I also get better battery life on sense. Then again, I bought an htc phone because I wanted sense.

I came over from the OG Droid, so Sense was completely new to me when I got my Incredible 2 last summer. I tried it for about a month before I finally decided I just wasn't a fan, so I went to Go Launcher. A bit later, I decided to root the phone and try out some fancy new ROMs. I've been through a bunch of different selections since then. Generally anytime a new Sense ROM comes out, I see all the people that rave about it, so I wind up giving it a try. But it never fails, within a week or two, I wind up going back to an AOSP choice.
As far as battery life, I haven't personally noticed a huge different between the two. I've run Sense flashes that are good and battery, and others that are not as good. Same for AOSP. It the end, it basically comes down to me just not personally loving the Sense UI.
Sense:
. much better camera (especially in low light conditions)
. Better phone and contacts apk s . Better phone and speaker in call volumes
. Slightly better battery life
. More polished UI
. Feels like it's made for the phone
Aosp:
. Quicker, lighter, snappier
. Power toggles are awesome
. Feels incomplete
. In call volumes are questionable. They're either too low or too high.
Conclusion: can't go wrong with either one, but the edge goes to sense (until aosp ICS is fully functional)

I thought I'd really like Sense, but once I used it, I just didn't care for it. Can't Stand the launcher - the enormous phone button, the dedicated "customize" button, etc... So I use ADW, which means I loose all the Sense widgets, which leaves little else of value.
The camera on Sense did seem to be better than AOSP, not sure why that would be. But I use either MIUI or CM7 as they're so much faster and, in my experience, do get better battery life.

Yep, the launcher kills Sense for me. Why on earth do they do that? That stupid customize button is one of the worst UI design decisions I've ever seen.
Ultimately, too, I'd rather have my phone run well than look pretty, so while I mess around with Sense ROMs when they come out, I always end up back on AOSP. I like HTC hardware, but Sense is more trouble than it's worth.

well certain versions of rosie are better than others....i like the mt4g slide version a lot (in tsm bullet, cheap plug) and its a lot different than normal rosie
bliss sense 3.5 rosie is barely recognizable as a sense launcher in its layout
and from what ive seen of ics sense 3.5/3.6/4.0 they completely redid the layout
I like bliss alright but i haven't tried any of the 3.5 ROMs on the dinc2 so I don't know how well they run.

Let me clarify that I never use the sense launchers. Go is king for me, whether on sense or aosp
"the relentless pursuit of the perfect ROM "

Sense = crap

after a few days i dont like how the syncing is handled, im getting a bit tired of the whole ui in general. it's just not pleasant anymore. I even tried to switch launchers to nova. Then realized how much better ics stock would be on this. Then nova decided to force close on me so its unusable on the one x. man these roms cant come quick enough, ditching sense asap. Anyone else feel sense gets real old really fast? Don't get me wrong i love the phone, and the screen really has me in awe. Just tired of sense and want a more stock experience.
I've got the one x after a year of using a Wildfire. I don't have any problems with sense 4.0
I actually like Sense 4, its more pleasing to use than vanilla ICS in my opinion but still keeps the best parts of the plain ICS theme.
At the end of the day, if you don't use the Sense widgets everything else is pretty much the same as stock to look at. The app drawer even flows the same way.
But messaging and other parts look better.

No-Sense or Sense?

Hey guys,
I recently flashed between ARHD and LeeDroiD, both already fantastic ROMs, considering the Device just launched. Great respect for that dedication and support!
Tho, it seems both ROMs offer a No-Sense installation, or its possible.
AFAIK, Sense UI 4.0 still is pretty buggy. Memory Management is fuxort and causes Rosie Reboots every now and then. Plus, it seems like Sense / Rosie is causing the Phone to slow down a tad. When I use Trebuchet or Apex Launcher, Screen scrolling is WONDERFULLY smooth. Noticeably smoother than on my previous devices (Desire HD, Galaxy S2 i9100).
Question is: Even tho I always loved Sense UI, does removing Sense / Rosie speed up the phone in general? I would be perfectly fine with Apex or Trebuchet, as they run absolutely smooth so far, even with quite some widgets.
Thing is: I noticed alot of games acting up after a while, little lags every now and then, most likely a sign of cleaning up memory in the background to get the active App (in this case the game) more spare Memory to fill up. Sense UI and its Widgets seem to consume quite alot Memory, and because of the bugged memory management, it starts to lag more and more. After quitting the game, Rosie usually reboots.
I love Sense, always have, missed it alot after switching to the Galaxy S2 back in the days, but to speed up the phone and get rid of occasional lags, I would sacrifice Sense for the time being (until a new Firmware fixes issues).
I am still running Sense 4.0, but before I flash again, I would like to have your opinion and maybe experience with this matter.
Thanks guys!
You can use my ROM in pair with ROM cleaner and Nova Launcher

Removing sense will improve speed and battery life as its a very hungry part of our systems.

Whoa, the chiefs are answering themselves
Guys, you 2 got GREAT ROMs running. Still flashing between them
I will try both Non-Sense'd ROMs. Sense really seems effin memory hungy. Hopefully it speeds things up for now
And you 2 keep the goodies commin'!
Your thread just got their attention, because you asked this question in the wrong forum. (-;
Next time pls ask such things in the Q&A forum or in the threads of the roms.
Moved to Q&A.
Please don't ask questions in Development Section.

A lot of users are waiting for AOSP Rom and I am of course one of them.
I am now using ATHENS in pair with From Cleaner and it is very fast.

Hey,
This looks like a good place to ask this question ....
How are the Widgets in Sense 4.0 compare to Sense 3.x in quantity & options ?
Thank you in advance,
Itai.

Sorry for asking in the wrong section. I should've known better, considering for how long I am already a Member
I am currently trying No-Sense. The phone feels faster, indeed. Better response, apps start a little faster, haven't had a Launcher Reboot ever since (but I am using Apex instead of Nova as for now).
Too bad the Lockscreen-Shortcuts are gone, but thats normal since there's no HTC Sense Launcher anymore (Dock-Icons).

LOL, Lee's sense stripper
I am absolutely astonished now much work some ppl put in sense. I wouldn't waste a second on this launcher as it's just way too bloated (and 4.0 should be stripped ), lags on my 4-core phone, isn't able to scroll a live wallpaper smoothly and so on. Especially with launchers like Apex out there, lightweight and very fast plus customizable, I just don't get it.
Anyhow, we need a good camera alternative asap so we can go AOSP...
Sweeeeet, will try this as soon as I get my new unit.
Does anybod know if the camera UI is gone too or not?

Maybe some people like the consistent look and feel, and the at-a-glance information that the Sense widgets give them. People like me.
Lags? That depends on your perception. I don't have a problem with waiting 0.5ms to flip between one screen and the next. Maybe I'm just a patient person!!!!!!!!!
The only thing i ll miss (as i m considering using AOSP launcher, never been fan of sense) is the HTC music widget, notes widget and calendar widget. I ve been HTC fan for some years now and always been going AOSP as soon as i get the device I always missed those widgets from HTC

After every RAM intensive app whenever I went back "home" I was greeted by a "loading" screen and I had to wait several secs to bring rosie back to life, never happened to me with Apex.
Having to stare at a loading text on a brand new quad core phone just to load the launcher is a bit embarrassing, don't you think?

I don't like the calendar widget at all - I use a combination of simple calendar widget and business calendars week view, gives me more info over the next few days than a bunch of dots
As for notes I use catch, but there is one very good post it style note app out there but thats not the way I am using notes on my phone and my player of choice, PowerAmp has several nice widgets, so this is also not something I would miss.
What I like and would really miss are the camera app obviously, the tasks widget (for the ability to sync with G and exchange) and the mail app which is really nice. The AOSP is nice too though, so its acutally onle the camera app that will prevent me from going AOSP.
Most probably I am going to try this ROM, AOSP themed sense ROM, once the unlock before answering a call bug is squashed.
why bother with an htc phone if you dont like sense , get samsung or join i want iphone crowd

Great post...
I came from HD2, best fkin phone ever, and got HOX, the next best fkin phone ever, so don't you tell me to go get an iPhone! This is about the biggest insult you can make here on xda, shame on you!
I bother with htc phones because I used to have a HD2, a diamond before and a 3300 even before that. They were all very well built and had some good hw specs. Back in the wm days, sense was a revelation and on my HD2 I could flash whatever I want, but I was shocked when I tried sense. Now on my HOX, I learned to h8 it once again. If it wasn't for the camera app, I'd be long gone. It's a real shame that the HOX has such a great cam with all those great features that can only be used together with the rest of sense. These ugly icons are so outdated, have a look at AOSP to get a feel what a menu should look like nowadays.
I never liked Samsung, the GSII had something cheap when you had it in your hand, nothing as solid and nice like htc. And I h8 them for trying to copy fkin apple, wth would want that anyway. I h8 this carrier / manufacturer customizing crap, most of the bases are flat out rubbish and only delay the updates of optimzations to the phone and make it unusable. My gf wanted to get rid of her defy, I rooted it and flashed CM7. She was absolutely amazed and at the same time upset/confused, htf a company could fk up their own product so badly! These guys should try to keep themselves apart with hw and design choices, not with bloat ware and stupid overlays.
And last but not least, I buy a phone because of the hw, not the sw, especially if the sw is or should be open source!
What better is there than a community working on the android base (CM / AOKP)?
I h8 the idea of now being forced to wait for a company to bring out new updates to my system, I really do...

I don't know how you like the stock camera app >.< Only thing good about it is the UI. Photo and video quality is atrociously bad. I LOVE the UI, but I can't take the horrible compression so I use Camera360 and save my images with no filters instead >.<
