http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=693433
scilor has made an app that lets you not only trigger camera capture with one of the volume buttons but, by holding either of them, we can now zoom in and out!
works great here.

Great Mod!
It works fine on my Blackstone with 6.15 camera version.
Thanx

I downloaded it it worked fine yeasterday but will not work today any suggestions

This is good if you volume key work My Volume Down key is broken and i don`t know why i mean maybe because of alot of use and Flashing

[Q] Volume rocker as Camera button?

Hey everyone. I was using the camera app the other day, and it got me thinking that it would be incredibly convenient and practical to be able to use the volume rocker to take pictures instead of the optical trackpad. I've done a bit of searching, and I haven't seen anything about this in the Incredible forum, so if anyone has a solution or idea, feel free to let me know!
I agree. The optical jog is terrible. Almost impossible to hold the camera steady and use it.

Ditto.
Maybe even be able to rotate the camera app so the volume buttons are in the traditional location of the shutter button.
its like one of three things i miss about my blackberry storm. the camera button, the way that profiles and settings were consolidated into one space, and batch actions for messages (delete all, mark all unread, etc)
i hope that someone comes up with something for this. especially allowing camera to rotate would be great.

Why can't Sense Roms control softkey backlights...

while cm7 and other AOSP roms can, either directly, in display brightness settings, or through apps (screen filter, Moon + reader etc)? The same apps don't work with the softkeys in sense.
Am currently on cm7, mainly because of the darn softkeys blinding me while reading or watching vids.
And is there a camera app for cm7 that does auto focus, like the HTC camera app? And how about internet pass-through?
It seems I need a combination of both types of Roms!
Have you tried the Miui Camera? I was using it with CM7. It's pretty nice, has Autofocus as well as Antishake.
It can be installed as a system app and replace the stock camera (rename the apk to camera, and place in the system app folder and change the permissions. or just install as a stand alone app. I chose to replace my stock camera.
If you have any issues, let me know.
Thanks!
I'll give this app a try!
Mine must be broken because they are hardly blinding.

Must be!
I'm talking about reading with very low screen brightness at night.

I just installed it! First time I had a chance to use the barcode scanner.
Nice app! Is there a way to zoom in using video? And can I use the front camera with it? I haven't found an option for that, so far.

I don't know of any way to zoom on the video.
I have the front facing camera option on the left hand side of the screen near the top. It has a camera with arrows around it. I'm not sure if it is on the version I linked though. I've switched back to the Miui rom and using the lastest version 1.9.9 which has the front facing camera option (works for both camera and video)... I can try and pull the apk and see what happens if I flash it to CM7 later...
Thanks! I would appreciate this very much!
PS: I'm still hoping someone can explain why there is no control over the softkey lights in sense roms.
For example, screen filter and Moon + reader can both turn them off using AOSP roms, but the same apps cannot in Sense roms.
Is this something that is easy to add and nobody else wants this function, or is there something in the sense roms making it hard to incorporate?
Tried flashing the camera from the latest Miui build (1.9.9) in CM 7... no luck, just force closes.
I'm sure there may be someone out there that knows what needs to be modded to make it work. I wish I did...
I'll enclose the apk if anyone wants to try to mess with it.
Thanks a million for trying, Don!
No problem. Good luck on the backlighting.
I enjoy being able to kill mine when reading books. It's a nice feature to have. Crazy that on the sense based roms that dimming the display doesn't effect the soft key back lighting like it does on the Aosp roms Crazy..

The Fixed2 version doesn't have FFC support. There is also a TEST1 version which has enabled the FFC for some. The link in my signature will take you to the post about Fixed2 but it also links to TEST1. I'm currently working on the version from 1.9.2 so if you want to try it out, PM and I'll give you the download link. The only reason I'm not just posting for everybody right now is so people on various devices/roms give feedback about what needs fixed and tweaked.
As far as why we can't take the app right from MIUI and have it work is because it's dependent on pieces of the MIUI framework. Basically, to make it work the apk needs to be decoded and have some of the framework added to it. Would be a lot easier if MIUI was open source.

[Resolved] Half press camera button to focus missing from ICS ?

I tried several ICS roms just find that none of them support the Half press to focus, maybe those roms are ported from other devices that doesn't have a camera button?
I didn't find anybody asking for this, but shouldn't hard to modify, isn't it ?
EDIT:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1532742
Enhanced Keymaps mod fixed this.
The devs don't have the camera driver yet, similar devices also don't have official ICS so there's nothing we can do about it.
Heck, just a few weeks ago the camera doesn't even work.
So... it's actually hard to modify, and you should rely on auto focus for the mean time.
Well this actually fix by the SuperCharge mod.

It's true that the camera driver still not native in DZ, but half press to focus is just a key event to map in the system.

[APP] Stock Camera with Vol.Up shutter

Hi,
If enough people will want this app Tigger31337(WildChild ROM) said he would look in to it..
Please post a reply if you're interested.
Tnx!

That would be awesome. Having to touch the screen actually makes it a little harder to snap a quick picture.
That would be great!

So, now that the WildChild Sense is 99.9% finished (look for it soon) I promise to give this some attention.
Off the top of my head, it seems trivial to remap the VolUp key to be a global Camera Shutter key (if anyone's desperate for this, I can release it in about 5 mins!) but I have the feeling that we all want the VolUp key to release the shutter only from within the Camera app itself. That will require some fancy footwork. I've yet to see it done for a Sense 2.1 ROM so... no promises, but I will take a look at it shortly.
Thank you, all, for voicing your request.
Enjoy the weekend,

Hi, I can give U a temporary solution.
Download this software
https://www.dropbox.com/s/d7x58xb2orf1n1s/BR0.2.4.1.apk
Install it.
Remap the keys as you like (you can only remap volume up and volume down shown as Media next and media previous in the soft).
U just need to know what state means. 3 states are there, Wake, Wake_dropped & none. For camera button I'd prescribe U should select NONE.
Wake = Means they will work even when screenlock is on
Wake Dropped = Means will work only when screenlock is off
You can alternatively do the same by editing /system/usr/keylayout/marvel-keypad.kl
Same process but in that case u have to do it manually. Just a little more time consuming. And revert back is a click away in that software(check >Menu>Settings). or in the second process delete marvel-keypad.kl and rename marvel-keypad.kl.bak as marvel-keypad.kl!!!

I didn't download the s/w, but if it behaves the way you say, then that won't quite work. For starters, I need to map volume to more than just WAKE or MEDIA (it has to be CAMERA). If your s/w can't do that, then I can just do it by hand (very easy). The problem, as I described earlier, is that it will be a GLOBAL change. Nobody wants that. The goal is to get Vol+Up to Shutter only from within the camera apk.
Second, your description of WAKE vs. WAKE_DROPPED isn't entirely accurate. It has nothing to do with screen on/off. It has to do with whether or not the h/w button function will be passed along to the app after the WAKE call. (WAKE sends the h/w call to the app, but WAKE_DROP does not).
Anyway, gimme another couple of days and I'll start working on this. Sorry about the delay.
Just a little teaser...
I'm able to get the HTC camera app to take a picture with the Volume rocker... but I don't like it.
I must have broken something else in the process because I (sometimes) get visual artefacts on the bottom of the picture (green bars). Also, the layout looks a bit wonky but still functional.
And finally, it's unpredictable when the camera will zoom and when it will actually take a snapshot when the vol keys are pressed. It seems like a long press will zoom and a short press will release the shutter (which is what i wanted) but it doesn't always work that way.
Now here's the real issue. I always thought that a h/w shutter button would be better than tapping the screen. But, after hacking around with it, it turns out that tapping the screen generated less shake for me! Try it yourself. If you hold your phone steady and press the Vol Up button, for me, there is a very slight movement on the camera. But if I'm holding the phone the same way (by all 4 corners) and then use the tip of my index finger to tap the shutter icon, I get practically no motion == clearer shot. (Maybe that's just me!)
In any case, I'm quite happy with the touchscreen shutter (and I'm busy as hell) so I'm not really driven to complete this project. That being said, I will glady spend a few more days on it and then release whatever I have for some other keener, smarter folks to complete.
Thanks dude..
We'll appreciate what ever release you'll give us..
A small motivation..
I was trying to take a pic of me and my gf yesterday..
It just impossible with the touch shutter..
But in the other hand.. Why ruin the view with my ugly face
It'll be fine if you simply disable the volume zoom function. Its digital zoom anyways, so we can always crop the pic later. So you can maybe map volume down to re-focus & volume up to click!

HTC's self-portrait is amazing. Its got face detection, try it out!
Hi all
Tigger U r the boss and I m just a noob. I hardly know anything about android.
Anyways, here is another temporary solution... Hope U like it or hope U not But i'm using it currently so ill just post that, glad if it help anyone.
Download camera360 and this S/W
The camera is better than stock I think. Use the longpress camera key shortcut as any volume control software (I use hide it pro). And long press search key as the Aneq Equalizer free so that U can switch equalizer when u listening to music. I use vol up as next track and vol down as camera. works pretty well for me. Vol up press after remap is also used to change radio stations.. I m having good fun.:good:

Flashlight without root

Hey everyone !
I just got g3 few days ago and really enjoying the phone (5.0 onboard and its solid).
Noticed there is no flashlight widget or anything preinstalled. I guess it was discussed many times before but I couldn't find any info.
Right now using TeslaLed but I wonder, Can dual led flash get damaged or loose some of its performance(brightness when using camera) over time ?
LG didn't included flashlight widget for a reason. i was expecting them to add it with 5.0. Even nexus4 finally got system level flashlight app on 5.0 nu our g3's did not. Maybe LG is afraid of overburning the leds ?
With TeslaLed, the light is very bright and natural. Much more pleasant than my note2 led was. I am a bit afraid of using tho
I'm pretty sure it has a flashlight app built in. At least the US carrier version does. No need for root or third party app.
Have a great day! from my LG G3
Can You maybe post a screenshot of it ?
I can't seem to find it
Well I may be incorrect. I assumed it was built in. I am rooted and I reassigned the volume quick buttons and when I press volume up with the screen locked it turns on the light. I was assuming it was just activating a built in flashlight but it is a setting using the G3Tweekbox. The only reason I thought it was a built in flashlight option is because normally you would need some third party app to initiate this with this system it did not need that, it simply just accesses the light directly. I just spent 20 minutes looking through the whole device and root folders trying to find it then realized it was an error on my side.
Have a great day! from my LG G3
Just install Power Toggles and add flashlight toggle to your screen.
thanks
Download QuickTorch https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yoavst.quicktorch&hl=en , It can be used if You have circle case , it has widget that fires up led light just by touching it , and even more important, download "Key Plus for LG" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apptuners.keyplusapp , it works without root, and assign QuickTorch to volume up key on the back of Your phone .... Who need quick access to QuickMemo ?
Thats very useful ! Actually, quicktorch is not needed. key plus for lg have it's own built in torch and it all works great.
Thanks
