Guys,
I want to use LauncherPro, but I want to keep the HTC sense Widgets, mainly the MAIL/EMAIL widgets. Because I use them all of the time..surely for corporated emails...
is there anyway to get the widget with launcherpro...I cannot see it , if I want to add a new widget...
thanks
-=LT=-
As i understand it this is not possible as those widgets require the sense framework to operate that and you are use launcherpro instead, i did have a look into this myself as i also use launcher pro but wanted to have the airpland and mobile network toggle widgets.
such a bummer
Impossible.
All of HTC's apps need HTC Sense UI to be running for them to work.
Thanks for your reply...
Still got a question then, is there any Mail widget on android market that can do the same? Preview of email ( also new emails)...

it's paid but i've bought stuff from this dev before and he is active and his widgets are pretty sweet.

Sense is just so much better than Stock Android. I haven't seen any single Widget/App that can rival the quality of the ones HTC release. The stock Android apps by comparison are very very ugly.
Yes, true,
that is why I want a port of the HTC sense widgets...
bummer

I'm fairly sure that can't be done as HTC Sense is closed source.

Crappy ...there is a widget that is almost the same (or the same) as the flip clock weather widget of SENSE,...it's called Fancy Weather..
so I'm still hoping I can find a good email widget..the have to be the same, but a widget (good enough) to see me my emails..not that I have to open mail program to see/read if I got anything

I like what HTC has done with Android. Sense really gives Android a more polished feel, especially back in the day of cupcake/donut.
I too like Luncher Pro, its speed and layout, and the customizable buttons. But I really cannot part with many of the HTC Sense widgets, and thus am sticking with Sense. I know some people find Sense ugly, although I am not one of them I do start to find it a bit boring after using it for a year. I really hope future version of Sense would allow us to skin/theme it easily, to make it really customizable like Launcher Pro.

how would one do this??
I have no idea
I am also not a big fan of sense i just don't think it looks that good, even when I had sense version on my Desire i still used Beautiful Widgets as for one i prefer the weather widget and the other reason is HTC can't be bothered to update there widgets to have weather from all regions.
Launcher pro is far nicer, no matter this phone or the hero when ever you went in all applications it isn't smooth when you scroll to the bottom on sense, install launcher pro from the market and its as smooth as butter and it generally feels faster and smoother all round for me the phone.
And then there's also that AWESOME zoom-in effect when oping an app and the zoom-out effect when closing an app, just like the iPhone does.
On Sense it just switches without any animation at all, making the whole experience seem choppy (although objectively it is faster without animations).
I like LauncherPro and have replaced the HTC widgets as follows:
- Music -> Pure Music (paid version), has all widget sizes and skins you can imagine
- Clock -> Fancy Widget, same as HTC flip clock
- Switcher widgets -> SwitcherPro, 7 customizable toggles in a 4x1 widget.
- Calendar list -> Pure Calendar List (paid)
- Calendar grid -> Pure Calendar Grid (paid)
As a remedy for the missign unread message count and missed call count I have installed the app "Missed Reminders", which shows a popup every 30 seconds if I have any unread messages or missed calls. Works okay, but not the best solution.

Hi there! I just flashed CM6 RC2 and its great! What isnt so great is, that I can no longer use my sense widgets! The clock looked awesome. The contacts app and the dialer were great too!
Is there an option to flash some parts from sense with an update.zip and if so, can I still use ADW launcher which comes with CM6 or isnt this possible?
Im sure CM is Stock Froyo and not sense, which means none of the Sense stuff is installed. You would need to use a Sense rom to use these.
OP try Fancy Widget for the clock. Although you may have to search online as HTC had it removed from the market for copying lol.
Also dialerone with the light theme is close-ish to the sense dialer.
yup, CM is stock Froyo.
The thing is that I want to use CM but with sense.
It would be even better to use CM with the ADW Launcher.
Can you please point me out to a thread where I can read how to cook such a rom?

Read the post above you.
Google Fancy widget and try that.
Try DiallerOne for the dialler.
If you use Launcher Pro then there are sense style Calendar, Bookmarks, Messaging and Contacts widgets with that.
The HTC widgets depend on HTC Sense. No HTC Sense = No HTC widgets.
No.
There is no replacement for HTC friendstream, news, message or mail widget and especially not for the album and direct Facebook sharing.

Fancy widget is okayish to replace the clock/weather widget.
I also installed and already purchased Launcher pro a feew minutes ago cus it is simply a great app!
The only thing I am missing now are the sense contacts and the sense clock app.
I know that I cant use the widgets with Launcher Pro but is the following thing possible:
-flashing a sense rom
-use Launcher Pro as launcher
-use sense contacts and sense clock? I am not talking about the widgets but about the apps?
Will try this out tomorrow but maybe you can save me the hassle if it isnt even possible

Sorry, newb question. What does Rosie mean and why would I want to try different versions? Droid INc, SR 3.3.2, 2.15 radio, stock kernel. I've looked at screenshots of different rosie versions, but it just looks like minor appearance and launcher changes. Isn't that sort of what I get with a new rom anyhow?
Rosie, in simplest terms, is the launcher that appears at the bottom of the screen, above the home/menu/back/search buttons - opinions vary on her extent, but nominally that's who she is.
So then what's the big deal with Rosie if launcher pro makes that so easy?

If you modify Rosie, you can tweak the default Sense launcher to look the way you want, AND stilll have access to the HTC widgets.

I guess I'm still confused, as you can still change the launcher and still have access to htc widgets without modifying rosie. Is it a theme? Is is a full Sense UI replacement? I'm just not grasping it.
From all I've gathered through this community, Rosie is like a theme on steroids - HTC uses it as a key piece of branding across nearly all their devices. In addition to being the main user interface in terms of widgets, buttons, launcher, etc it also includes an number of hooks and tweaks into core Android itself designed to make the experience more friendly for non-geek users (no insult implied!).
There are two main camps when it comes to Rosie - some dislike it since it adds bulk to the simplicity of vanilla Android, while some others love it for it's prettier user experience and all its widgets. I personally am in the former camp and have learned to love AOSP vanilla.

Actually, you can't. If you change the launcher to something like Launcher Pro (which I <3), you can't use the stock HTC Widgets for FriendStream, Mail or more popularly that beautiful 4x2 Weather+Clock. Granted, if you buy Launcher Pro Plus you can get very similar social widgets, and if want that clock Beautiful Widgets is the way to go if you ditch Rosie for LPP.
Rosie, in simplest terms, is the black bar at the bottom of your homescreen. She gives you access to your app drawer, dialer and settings - and if you take her away, she takes the HTC Widgets with her. However, all other HTC Sense UI elements, such as the lockscreen or the black status bar all stay in place.
Rosie is just the launcher. She is in charge of your homescreens.
As previously mentioned, the reason people modify her is they don't want to lose the HTC Widgets for whatever reason (too cheap for LPP + BW?), but they want to have a custom look or replace the settings option with say the browser.
That clear it up?

Absolutely. Thank you! The term Rosie didn't come up on any Android glossaries I found online. You should submit your description...
On a side note, I was a devout BB user for years and I feel like a kid again learning this whole new OS from scratch. I was as deep into BB as many of you are in Android, so just making the change was a huge leap. Some people close to me think I'm obsessed with technology, but for me it's what I find interesting and fun and challenging.
I am so impressed by this launcher I figured I owed it to the devs to spread the word.
If you are like me and just scratch your head sometimes at the look and functionality of the Android interface then do yourself a favor and try GO Launcher EX. While not radically different it has some really nice features in look and feel that make Android seem just a little less clunky.
I had not heard much about this launcher and was convinced that ADW EX followed by Launcher pro were the best options out there. I had my hopes set on a stable MIUI port to really satisfy my UI desires but this launcher might be all i need.
Things I like:
- Icon backgounds like in the touchwiz launcher but much nicer looking. This actually makes stock app icons look good.
- IOS style folders in both the apptray and on the home screens.
- Theme support. Not very many themes yet but those that are out seem to be of very high quality. Checkout the Classic and the Gre theme in the market.
- Integrated task manager in the apptray.
- Icon notifications that actually work properly.
- Fast smooth as silk and rock stable.
- It's free. No ads and no nag screens.
- It has all other common features of the well known launchers.
Try it out there is a good chance you will like it as much as I did.

Go launcher is nice but also has flaws .. The appdrawers refuses to autosort, no matter what kind of sort you select in settings it will not sort newly installed apps until you click on sort option .. Scollable widget support is flaky, often when you try to scroll something else happens on the screen

It is very smooth here with 150+ apps installed. It is choppy when it is generating icons but it only does that once.

You are right about the drawer, it defaults to last installed. I can live with clicking on auto sort once in a while but they should fix that.

I use pure messenger widget . While scrolling in adw is smooth in go often flicking up and down doens't work it does the screen up or screen down gesture movement instead.
On the positive side it is getting better and better .. Glad they fixed the choppy custom icons in the dock since 2.13

Scrolling thru home screens its very smooth no doubt! but the app drawer if we compare it with launcher pro or ADW EX its to choppy!
Very nice launcher, but app drawer is very laggy
Works perfectly well for me. My only gripe with the program is that most themes do not correctly theme some programs for the SGS. Namely the Internet, Phone, Contacts and Messaging as they tend to have slight name variations on other phones.
For example the GRE Theme
Its is perfect not choppy at all for me smoother than ADW ex im running 2.2.1 with darky's rom 9.3 and ultimate 1_1 kernel.
Running stock 2.2.1 was a little choppy in app drawer and after phone been unused for a while then unlock screen and use was a little choppy too.
Since the custom rom and kernel its been flawless

Agreed, it is a bit of a pain that.
But having tried quite a few Launchers: LauncherPro, ADW, Zeam - for me at the end of the day, Go Launcher Ex is always coming out tops.
The task manager in the app tray really shows you what's happening in the background and that in itself is a great task killer.
So yeah - props the devs on this one. 5* for sure!
working well so far for me!

but it is one of the options to sort your apps the way you like. would it autosort the apps, that possibility was gone. so if there is to be a real autosort integrated, then it should be optional!
another couple of things i recognized:
- the picture frame widget won't work. i can choose a picture, but it is never shown on one of my homescreens
- it would be nice to have more options setting the homescreen grid and not just 4x4, 4x5 and 5x5
- would be nice to have the possibility of having "empty" icons in app drawer, so you have f.e. only 4 apps on one page (app sorting would be easier)
- maybe some more indicator types (not just the bullets)
- more sorting options for app drawer and individual sorting options for folders (f.e. sort by most used,...)
now enough critizism for the moment. i also wanna tell what i really like about this launcher:
the main point is the folder integration. that is really an a+
also the task manager in the app drawer is really well done
everything else works just like would expect it, so this launcher replaced all the others ad hoc.
very well done and hopefully development goes on like this
Tried all of the main ones (LP, ADW, zeam, etc.) Go launcher ex in my opinion takes what all of those launchers do really well and just combines them into one perfect package. I don't experience any lag in the drawer, very smooth imo.
Best launcher for me
Choppy Appdrawer here as well (seems to be maxed at 30 frames per second).
The smoothest drawer I've ever seen is the 3Dish one in gingerbread launcher - even much smoother than the launcher pro "clone" lol

Strange because that works perfectly here. Try removing all shortcuts and adding them again. I think that happens if you already had a custom icon set before changing the theme.

Pay version of launcher pro has widgets similar to sense with the exception of the clock.
For the clock, you need the pay versions of either Beautiful Widgets of Fancy Widgets. I know for sure Fancy Widgets has skins to make the clock look identical to the sense clock. It also has screen on animations and weather animations when you open the weather.
A number of third party messenger and calendar apps also have their own widgets.

yea i was watching a video on youtube of fancy widgets but the animation when u unlock the phone does not work right and a another Q how do u put the signature (like the one u have after the line ) in here cuz i been looking around in my profile and i dont see any part for signature
Screen unlock animation worked fine for me. I think beautiful widgets has one too. Neither are as good as sense though. Worth the sacrifice for me though since I don't really like Sense.

Hi
I am owning a HTC WIldfire with Froyo (official update)
Recently I heard about launcher pro apk. I have seen the screen shots(googling) and I find it very cool by the looks and setups...
My questions are :
1. How much advanced is launcher pro over HTC Sence launcher ?
2. Does installing launcher pro throws away HTC Sence for the rest of my phones life ???
3. Any disadvantages of launcher pro - like sluggish, slow etc
4. How many home screens does it provide ?
... and all info on launcher pro if you guys can give me.....
1. Far more advanced. They are a lot more customizable than the Stock Sense launcher
2. No, You can always switch back, besides, you will only lose the Sense Launcher. Sense goes far beyond it's launcher, but, you WILL lose the ability to use any Sense based Widget.
3. No, actually, its the opposite. Its lightning quick. Scrolling between homescreens, scrolling the app drawer with the 3D effect - Its instantaneous. So much so that my friend with a Stock Desire said my phone feels smoother.
4. Configurable from 1,3,5,7

While using launcher pro as a home screen launcher, you will not be able to use any sense widgets like Calendar, Weather Clock, etc.
Launcher Pro PLUS (paid) comes with it`s own widgets that replicate sense look and feel (minus the weather widget, that`s another debate.)
You can go back to Sense at anytime and use the sense widgets. Nothing is lost.

Can anyone suggest me any site where I can check for the catalog or specifications of Launcher pro. so that I can get a clear view and try the features without missing anything ... Also if I install the free version, is it a trial one like it will ask me for updating with paid one later ?

Bro.. one more question....
I have seen many wallpapers in many screen shots of wildfire which is truly amazing... but my search for those(may be am poor in searching) does not get me amazing ones... can you tell me where to look for cool wallpapers for Wildfire...
The Wildfire Apps and Themes Section should be a good place to start. But, do remember to check out the main Android Themes Section as well.

There is an app called "HD Wallpapers" (by srsdev). It is available in market as a free version.
It has lots and lots of categorised cool wallpapers. But it requires mobile data connection to download the wallpapers. And once u open a wallpaper image, it will be stored as a cache data on memory card. That means u donot need to have internet connection to open the image for the 2nd time , and also for setting it as a wallpaper.
And the best thing is it even has the option to save ur cool wallpapers to sdcard. The saved path will be sdcard/Wallpapers/My Wallpapers/
[And wallpapers will not be specific for wildfire. They are just images. There will be live wallpapers also which are also not specific for wildfire. Don't mind if u know that.]
Can anybody tell wich is better in your opinion, ADW or launcherpro?
Hi All
I installed Launcher Pro... let me tell you it has thrown out all my doubts !!!
Really cool...and fast..an excellent launcher app...with gr8 looks...
but the problems are not having weather and clock widgets (My home screen looks empty without this...) Can anyone one tell what weather and clock widgets are there in market for free so that I can use in my launcher pro..
note : I tried the gtab simi clock.. but I dont know if I went wrong with its settings..when i add the clock widget to my home screen that place blacks out ! means not showing the clock even though I set the time and other stuffs...

Thats gr8 to know... I will try it out..yeah I know that live wallpaper will not work with Wildfire until you have rooted it. By the way I used the links provided by '3xeno' to get some wallpapers..those are really good looking...
Also I read in that thread that using .png files gives more stylish view of a picture than .jpeg is that true ?
Format by itself doesn't make any difference. For the Clock and Weather Widget, Google for Fancy Widget 1.3.0. It's a replica of the HTC Widget, but was removed from the market for violating HTC's copyrights, but, it can still be found on many sites. (The market has the new version of Fancy Widget, but, it obviously doesn't look like HTC's, but, the Pro version (Paid) has a skin which looks like one)

I tried to set the Sim clock again... what is width of left side in pixels.. default is 120.. but when i use it as 120 itself.. the place where it is suppose to show the time blacks out and it only displays 15 and black colur ends there... where it is supposed to show as 15|28 - which is the current time in 24 hour !
Use 50. 120 will start the display of the clock from the centre of the screen.
Regarding choosing between launcher pro and adw launcher, its actually the users choice.
There is a lot of difference in performance between htc sense and launcher pro. But there is little/no difference between launcher pro and adw launcher. And also it depends whether u have the full versions of them. I don't know much about adw full version. But launcher pro full version (called launcher pro plus or LPP) unlocks the widgets of it (u can see the widget list even from the free version). And LPP has features of scrollable and resizable widgets. That means u can have any widget to be displayed from 1x1 to 4x4. In my opinion , i choose launcher pro. The adw launcher gives me a little delay while opening the app drawer menu. But it is very necessary to rule out htc sense if u r looking for performance. And one more thing, for persons (who can root their phones) interested in increasing the performance, it is better to choose AOSP roms because JIT compiler, a performance optimizer from froyo cannot be enabled in sense roms and also certainly htc sense is absent in AOSP roms. [some of the reasons why i want rooting is --- to rule out the htc sense, enable JIT compiler, tethering options (root-only apps), overclocking, live wallpapers and of course gingerbread custom roms.]
And regarding weather and clock widget, i will make a note of 3 apps, and the lite versions of all these three are available in market presently.
---"Animated Weather" (by Mobilityflow Arts). If u r looking for a widget which looks like htc one, then this is ur option. Not 100% identical to htc, but it almost looks like htc one. I don't know about the features of the lite and full versions of this. Just noting this to tell u that this (even the lite version) looks more similar to the htc one.
---"Beautiful Widgets" (by LevelUp Studio) . A word of caution for this in the market. "THIS LITE VERSION IS AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET ONLY FOR A LIMITED PERIOD". So, hurry for this cool widget. A very nice and preferable one. It even has free version of additional "BW Animation Pack". Install the animation pack also. It shows cool 3D weather animations right after u unlock ur screen (and they will be shown everywhere, not only on the homescreen). Here in this u can have animation effects on lite version also. The lite version somewhat attempts to look like htc one, it even has download option for few skins. Sorry i don't know the features of the present full version of this.
---"Fancy Widget" (by Android Does) . This one is also good. The lite version doesn't show animations. The full version unlocks animation and other features. For making it look like htc one, go to Appearance Settings/Widget style -- and set it to flip clock (sorry this option is available in full version only). The animation effects in full version are excellent. Even there are sound effects. Same here, the animation effects are triggered right after u unlock the screen (and they will be shown everywhere, not only on the homescreen). Im using full version of this and i feel like having live wallpapers on stock froyo (specially when it rains). But the animation stops just after u touch the screen after unlock. The full version of this supports downloading skins with which u can increase the way it looks like htc (i expect the full versions of all the three support downloading skins). And merely changing the skin will not make it look like htc, that flip clock option also contributes.
NOTE: I have checked the above 3 widgets with launcher pro only. And finally what i suggest u is to make a google search. The above information might be obsolete. And U can really rediscover a lot of things on searching. So always consider to search for things.
