i have upgraded my contract and got htc desire. i do not get 500mb internet allownce till next billing month and can therefore not pull twitter app from marketplace, can someone please post it. i have skype and msn from planet 3 sitetho
need 3uk twitter apk for htc desire
if anyone ask it's a generic graphite 3uk handset only with 3 settings no branded apps etc
but it came unlocked happy days!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stupid question, but why do you want the twitter app if you've got no net access? Surely it's a bit useless, then?
Secondly, why not just connect the phone to a Wifi network and download whatever you want through that?
twitter
twitter app is free on 3uk like skype and msn, there free because they give 3g assess to them, or anyone without internet bolt on. unfortunately the twitter app is threw marketplace and not 3uk usual wap planet 3 site for customers
So why can't you get it over Wifi?

Sure, not everyone has a wireless access point in their home, sure, but no access to a Wifi network at ALL? Coffee shop? Library? School? Hell, even McDonald's does free Wifi these days. I'm just saying it might be easier than holding out here for someone to post the apk.

Out of interest where on the site did you get the 3uk skype as it says htc is compatible but the link I get sent to my mobile ends with page cannot be found.
Yes I'm on 3uk
I upgraded and the same thing happened. A bit of gentle persuasion and a customer services call later and I was given free data for the interim month. Maybe 3 is the same?

OK guys basically many people can not get there bb connect working however on another windows mobile sites VIP area i found a custom edited one working perfect. It will work with 90% windows mobile 5.0 and 99% on 6.0 standerd it has difficulties with PRO not sure about custom roms. it easily connects to wifi or gprs you are able to send messages and receive messages, it also looks exactly same as the original BB interface.
So if you want this and have the xda s620 htc imei reader or if you can help me unlock my phone to all networks i will send you the app if you want to release it here you can

I am going to the US for a few weeks soon and I want to be able to speak to family back home in the UK, the hotel has free wifi but im not taking a laptop, is there any way I can make cheap (or free) calls via my Desire over wifi?
I have looked into skype VOIP which seems to be the ideal solution but it's not available on android, is there any other way to get VOIP to landline to work?
Comments appreciated.

Did you try to search? Even in market?
Search in market for 'sipdroid' e.g.
Sent from my HTC Desire
I'm using the android 3CX client with a free Sipgate account that allows me to call other voip numbers. I have a local uk number with them so my missus can call that when I'm away for free via her home phone.
What will work well for you is an account with freespeech.co.uk which will give you a UK no with your choice of area code, and Fring. Setting it up on your Desire is very easy. The best thing about is that you can use the VOIP no in any country where you have access to wifi. Cost: approximate £10.00 + Vat per month.
Fring is only necessary on your Desire. A router and a VOIP phone will do the job from your home or wherever else you might want to call from via VOIP.
Try voipcheap in combination with SIPdroid.
Wow thanks guys, it looks like SIP is going to be the best option, there are quite a few providers though, do they all have a "pay as you use" type tariff?
I use sipgate.co.uk with the android app sipdroid. Works perfect!

Dear kaizer006
There are a few versions of Skype on your link above - could you let me know if Skype_0.10.0.16_hutch_live is the latest please? I saw Skype_1.5.0.13_3UK_live before it on your post but now with the other one added I am confused with the numbering i.e. 16 vs 13 at the end could make it newer but perhaps beta vs release version because of the 0.10 vs 1.5 at the beginning. I tried both of them and found Skype_0.10.0.16_hutch_live.apk faster in reconnection and starting the call but Skype_1.5.0.13_3UK_live had a bit more features like renaming contacts.
Thanks for your help
i think "Skype_1.5.0.13_3UK_live" is the latest
but 3UK still spam "Skype_0.10.0.16_hutch_live"
compatibility i supose

my browser goes to mobile.three.co.uk/hb/HutchKey and if it opens on the page with "Store, My3 Account, Help" then you are on three mobile internet otherwise Skype on three will not work I think.
here is the link to the thread by kaizer006 with the launcher for Planet 3 but I don't use it.
if your phone does not connect to internet it is a problem with your account or the phone - try taking out the sim card and battery and reinserting it after half a minute - it fixed internet for me a few times. Otherwise call Three to help you with getting set up on their internet - there may be a way to reset your APN (access point names) from the phone too - but best call them telling them what phone you have and they will help step by step for internet itself but probably will not help with your skype as they only suport this on some models. Mentioning it to them before internet access is sorted may be counterproductive.
hi, thank you , yes it connects , i have since bought a new phone , put on a custom firmware and all is working fine with skype on 3g
thank you.

Hi all,
I've got a few quick questions that I was not able to find the direct answer to in other threads.
1) I'm using an unlocked international HOX on AT&T. I'm on firmware version 1.5 and am unable to get the phone to update. Do I have to do something out of the norm for the phone to see an update?
2) I saw the answer the other thread about Google Wallet being disabled in the States. Is there an APK or something I can load that will allow google wallet to work?
I'm coming from an Iphone 4S and this phone rocks!
Thanks for the help guys!

1. No, updates are pushed out in batches so your batch must not have received it yet.
2. If you have Google Wallet it will work just fine, it does on the Nexus.

Yes. Do a Google search as that's how people got it working on the VZW GN early on. A word of caution. Using the hack leaves all of your GW data open to any apps you have running on your phone. I want GW but, IMHO, it's not worth the risk.
just tried to download. installs, but won't open - not yet certified on device/carrier. i'm on at&t prepaid. wonder if anything will change once at&t lte is widely sold? not a biggie for me personally, but something to think about when it comes down to deciding on which version of the one x to purchase.

i am too much of a noob at this to have truly useful info. i'm in hawaii. i bought a micro-sim off amazon and signed up for the minimal $2/day when used unlimited talk/text plan plus a small data package, because i don't talk/text very much and i'm usually at home, where i have my own wi-fi set up. so having at&t is a fallback for when i'm out and about. that being said, phone calls are clear. checking email and, for example, pulse news service via at&t has been excellent. the one x is notably faster than my acer tablet. haven't tried mms, but i think it should work pretty well; email with a downloaded file that had been pdf'd whizzed through to my laptop, as did a screen cut of photos using dolphin, though that was off home wi-fi. don't see why at&t wouldn't work as well. what i'm waiting for now is to find out if i can get a good bluetooth headset to work (voice commands and all). if so, i may move to another plan so i can use the phone more extensively and downgrade my landline service to the absolute minimum.
All right. Sent a couple of photos via mms from my net10 phone to the one x w/ home wi-fi off. Net10 is running off Sprint in Hawaii. No problemo. Everything came through fine - and quickly.
Looks to me like the big issue for some of the non-techies like me who aren't about to fumble with rooting might be accessing U.S. only apps. Hoping that won't apply to bluetooth headset usability too.

i updated the other thread re non-availability of certain apps on non-us htc one x, but for those on at&t like me with unrooted phones, i will add the info here as well. i managed to download google voice on my one x (at&t prepaid) by using dolphin hd browser to google search "google voice." when the results page came up, i clicked the link that took me to the play store and downloaded. the app opened and seems to be working fine. i was unable to download it by going to the play store directly, so the browser may add some kind of filter which makes this possible?
i can't be totally sure that all google voice options will work, because i chose to install the "lite" version - i only wanted my voicemail kicked back to my phone to avoid having to use the phone to check voicemail. (i'm on the $2/day unlimited text/talk plan and if i have to use the phone only to check a random voicemail, i'm throwing my money away.) called my one x from my landline phone and a still-in-use net10 phone and left messages. seems to work. i used my gmail account as the voicemail recipient. no google phone number.
additional info for anyone planning to use a sophisticated bluetooth headset like blueant q2. i purchased one that was at&t branded. does not function completely. the most critical features - voice commands, voice dialing - are not supported in ics, so while the blueant will pair and one could presumably answer an incoming call, the other key features are unavailable. this appears to be a function of ics and not of at&t, though i assume at&t could tweak its own branded htc one x's to overcome that? i have a jawbone era coming in maybe next week and plan to purchase one of the apps available in the play store to test both headsets at the same time. the app's developer told me he has been trying to get his app to work smoothly with ics. it already handles the blueant in other versions of android.

I'm using a Q2 also. The problem isn't ICS; it's HTC. They left "voice dialer" out of thier ROM. I found APK's from other ICS devices but they don't work. Either a dev has to create one or HTC has to include one for native voice dialing to work. In the meantime I'm using Vlingo. When you use the "in car" mode the phone listens for commands over BT after you say "hey, Vlingo." You can also dictate texts and have incoming texts read back. When you activate it on the Q2 by saying "phone command," it starts up and is listening even though the Q2 says "feature not available." It's not too battery friendly though. Not perfect, but workable.
thanks for the info. is your phone rooted?
everything i found on the net elsewhere says it's android that is the problem re voice dialing - that development was dropped even before ics. does vlingo support announcing incoming caller id on the q2? and follow through on the answer/ignore response? (really, for someone who doesn't use the call function much, i am being very picky. but sophisticated means it should do all things well.)

I'm stock. Vlingo lite is free in the Market so play around with it.
mine will hopefully be here Fri, Mon, or Tue. i didn't think to try to get on a free phone's plan, so i'm getting robbed every month paying $70 (7% student discount wow thanks) for 2 GB, 450 mins (over 400 of which i don't use), and zero text. as soon as i can, i'm switching to Red Pocket. i also thought there was some way ATT was catching people with smartphones on gophone cards and turning their data off or something, to force them to come in and get the 4G sim and pay more. if not, good deal. i stay on wifi, but if i'm out and need data and it's too slow, then i won't be happy.
Hello.
I'm from Romania and i'm a subscriber of Vodafone Romania.
Viber works fine on my phone on every wifi I connected to, but when I activate the Mobile Internet it says that it is "currently unavailable and/or blocked". It seems that VIBER is blocked by Vodafone Romania and the only way I can use it with their Mobile Internet Service is to pay a tax of 3.13 Euros (3.8 dollars). In my opinion the fee for this service is abuzive and restrains the rights of its users.
From what I know Viber uses certain ports so it can make those VOIP calls and those are blocked by Vodafone.
My question is simple and I hope that some users from Romania and from other countries that are on Vodafone and have their Viber blocked can help with some tips and tricks on how to bypass the block.
Please refrain from answering to the question above with answers like "Change your carrier", "Use other VOIP apps instead", etc.
Let's hope we can find a way to deal with this problem,
Thank you.
SSH tunnel
My carrier also blocks VOIP like Skype & others, and the only real way I've found to get around this is to tunnel the traffic through a VPN or an SSH tunnel.
Personally I'm using the SSHTunnel app to do this. Basically you set it up to connect to a server where you have a shell account. The app then allows you to select the apps you want to tunnel their traffic.
Of course the SSH daemon on the server needs to allow forwarding of traffic and you need a good connection on both your phone & on the server end for this to work properly without call quality degradation.
Thanks for the reply, Gunthy` but unfortunately I don't own a server and I think it would cost more to buy one then to pay for the fee that Vodafone charges.

Yeah you're right there, although a good VPS doesn't have to cost a lot more than that. Also you can do more than just tunneling with something like that of course, so you get more value for your money.
If you have a good internet connection at home you could also use your own PC to set up the tunnel, you don't need to invest in renting a machine. Mind telling me what provider & plan you're on for your home connection? I'm quite familiar with Romanian providers so I could tell you if your current plan will allow that. Basically it mostly will depend on your upload speed. Naturally your PC needs to be up to the task as well...
Well i have dual-care 2Ghz Windows 7 laptop at home and a 11MB/s download and 1MB/s upload connection from RDS.
Do you know how could i configure my computer tu use it as you said?

Both your PC & your connection seem largely sufficient to do this. How exactly to set it up on Windows is something I'm not sure about (always done this with Linux ), but there is a an OpenSSH build for Windows, so you should be able to use that. Make sure you turn on port forwarding in the settings of the daemon, and forward the incoming SSH port on your router. SSH defaults to 22, but RDS might block that, so up it to something above port 1024 and it should work. Check out this guide, it seems pretty complete on first glance .
Thanks for the useful info. I think it's a good ideea to use your personal computer in order to bypass the block. I will try this tomorrow and report back here on how it goes.
In the meantime, if someone else has some other tips please post them here.
Viber
Hi,
This is a member of the Viber R&D Team!
We have received various similar complaints from Viber users in your area of the world, and we have investigated this issue. It seems that the outgoing access to Viber and VoIP applications may have been blocked by your specific service provider [generally, this block is only on basic package plans].
Please check with your carrier, Viber will not be able to bypass your carrier's network blockage. It is in your carrier’s or country's decision which applications they wish to allow or block network connections to.
If you have any question about Viber - please feel free to ask.

Thank you for the answer and sorry for the very late answer.
Unfortunately the carrier (Vodafone) still doesn't want to open the ports for Viber, so I decided to ask for help from our national Consumer Protection Agency, because when I signed the contract with Vodafone they didn't tell me that the internet option I choosed doesn't offer me full access to the internet because some ports are blocked and I will need to pay extra if I would want to use them.
I wil update this thread when i have some moar news.

well? does it work? Vodafone Spain here, same issue...
Hi,
As far as we know, Vodafone Spain still blocks VoIP services (including Viber) on its 'simple' data plan (for users who haven't purchased VoIP access).
We assume this can be confirmed with the company itself, by contacting their customer support or checking out their mobile data plans online.

Vladuu, did you ever find an answer to this? It seems it's an intermittent block for me. Sometimes it works, sometimes no.
I droped my Vodafone contract because they were the first company to implement a voip net blockage in germany.
I can only recommend to do this. Bypassing a blockage might be against your contract, which means you're asking for ways to break your contract / the law....
I'm now using O2 / Germany. They've posted on twitter that they won't block voip, ever. You are able to vote with your money, do it!
I know it's months after the previous replies, but I also faced this problem (for Skype) and fixed it.
The solution is using a VPN, but you don't necessarily need one at home. I use OpenVPN Connect from Play Store and vpnbook.com.
Install OpenVPN, install the certificates from vpnbook.com (server1 & server2, I just just UDP, 25000), then anytime you need to use SKype, follow these steps:
1. Open you browser of choice, go to vpnbook.com, the OpenVPN tab, get the current password (they change once per day)
1a. Close the browser from the recent tasks window, or (in case you use FF) you will not be able to browse using it after you start the VPN Connection
2. OpenVPN Connect, enter the password you found in step 1. Click Connect, check "I trust this ... <>" and OK.
3. Start Skype/Viber/whatever.
Thank you and sorry for the bump.
