Companies messages appear as if from facebook contacts - Desire General

Hi, im based in the UK and whenever i receive a message from a company such as Orange, or from companies who dont send with a number, the SMS appears as if it is from one of my facebook contacts (i have my phone synced with facebook)
If i select 'view message details' when reading the SMS, it says 'From: Orange' so it clearly isnt from my facebook contact that the sms application seems to think its from.
Anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it?
thanks in advance

Same problem on T-Mobile UK, would love to kno how to fix it.

It's fixed in the later ROMS.
Paul's R3 and those based on it.

ok, is it likely to be in the OTA update supposedly being sent out sometime in the next 12 years?

it will most likely be solved in froyo or in an update before that

I had the problem with my original orange rom, now running pays and no problem.

It has already been fixed in the OTA update which Vodafone rolled out last week. Orange are supposedly putting theirs out this week. Don't know about T-Mobile, but I'd imagine they'll have one out soon too.
edit: 2nd of June for Orange, apparently. Comes from their customer service people.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6633743

will i still get this update if ive flashed to a generic rom (unfortunately not the one with the fix!) and away from the stock orange rom?

I honestly couldn't say for sure.
Best to ask the vodafone users who updated last week. At a guess, I'd say your phone won't give you the option to update, and you may have to do it manually.

This happens to me because one of my FB friends has a text entry in the mobile number field, the git won't change it either lol.

I would like to know this also. Are OTA updates distributed based on vendor IDs or ROM versions or something else entirely?

Yes! i had this problem too! but i know the cause. It' because your facebook contact put something other than a phone number in his/her info under the phone number box (a silly message in words), the phone reads these as unknown numbers hence any unknown number will be matched with this contact

Im getting this "texts from networks appearing as sent from facebook contacts" problem, im on vodafone uk and havent recieved any ota updates at all since i got the phone 2 months ago?

If you're on the stock rom 1.15.405, you can do a manual upgrade to 1.21.405.2 and see if that fixes the problem. It's a genuine HTC firmware, but I don't think it's been officially released yet... anyway, if you search the Desire development forums you'll find it.
I actually don't know if it fixes the Facebook problem (since I don't have a Facebook account), best to ask in the thread... it will wipe your data though, so make sure to back everything up using MyBackUp Pro (there's a free 30 day trial available).

im currently on 1.15.405.4
with firmware 2.1-update1
when you say do a manual update do you mean reflash my desire again as thats really not something i can be bothered doing just for this annoying issue (especially if there is some OTA update apparantly imminent anyway)

Official T-Mobile Update (1.21.110.4) Available

Guys
Just to let you know that it seems T-Mobile has started rolling out updates officially. I checked the update option and I have an update pending...So whoever is with T-Mobile can start the update at their end.
It lists improvements to the phonebook and email application.

Yeah grabbed it about half an hour ago. Seems that if you have data backup enabled, when it restores it has doubled up my text messages...

Yep exact same thing happened here !!!
Thanks for the headsup
I didn't bother restoring just cancelled it, still had all my user settings and messages.
So if I don't restore then it still keeps all my messages etc? And if I do restore, it will double up all my messages?
Please... PLEASE... Let there be an Orange update soon as well
If you want to backup your SMS Messages before you update, use this
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
It doesn't backup MMS messages though, just be warned. I use it everytime I flash a new ROM or change something...
Contacts are easier to back up, go into People, and choose Export/Import - then export to SD. Done!
Probably a stupid question, but where do you go to turn off restore?
i dont know if this is a silly question
but does anyone know what's new with this update?
all the update says is a better email client and a 'myphonebook' upgrade?
is there anything new to this?
a new radio etc?
i have downloaded the upgrade but can not install as battery is too low, currently charging..
Is it still possible to change to a generic rom after updating to this newest T-Mobile version? I ask because I'm only used to running custom firmware on PSPs, and I know with each iteration Sony tries to prevent downgrading - was just wondering if that's the case here too.
Is there a specific firmware I would be looking for, or is any unbranded 1.15.xxx.x eligible?
Thanks.

Well, the radio version has now been upgraded in this release. I havent seen any change to my reception due to the new radio ROM but its too early to say.
Also since this version was already out, it may just be worth it if any of the debranded HTC desire owners help tell (or point) us to whats changed.
Just installed the new update. I checked to see if there were any new htc widgets. Found 2 new ones "Profile" and "Ringtone". Haven't seen these mentioned are they new?

I just tried to check for updates for my desire (unrooted) and I saw that I can update to 1.21.405.2.
UPDATE:
It seems that the update is only available for the EU unbranded roms.
Changes reported:
- Updates bootloader to 0.80
- New radio image
- New youtube app with HQ option (1.6.20E).
- Fixed htc's weather widget (integrated into clock&weather widget) not knowing where you are (1.15.xxx just said the name of the country in some countries).
- SMS issue (from non-numerical senders) is resolved.
- fixed random contact showing when receiving operator SMS.
- fixes the voicemail bug for the French carrier SFR (short voicemail number used to call 911/emergency).
- Messages app now shows a count on the number of messages in the SMS inbox.
- calendar/contacts bug - unable to store contact's birthday - has been fixed.
- Long click on the menu button when in home screen now doesnt pop up the keyboard, like it uselessly did before.
- SMS reader does not show the little smiley androids any more - just the mere types.
- Exchange Company Address Book is now properly working. Was unable to use before the update.
- They have disabled the snooze function on the Optical trackpad for calendar events. This means that it is now possible to have the phone in your pocket without accidentally snoozing the alarms.
Known issues:
- OTA update on debranded/rooted roms resolves in wifi not working - debranded may be specific for orange.
- Doesnt fully charge for the first couple of times, probably a calibiration thing, it's ok after 3-5 charges.

[q] ota 1.72.405.2

Just appeared on my phone (DZ). Does anyone know some details about this upgrade? Will permanant root and nand unlock possibility remain after applying it? Is there a changelist somewhere?
Always best to wait, don't jump into your doom
OTA 1.72.405.2 update is coming indeed. So how we will take it? Desire Z
Just updated my DZ, now runs Android 2.2.1.. To early to say anything about stability, battery consumption and radio quality, but the EXCHANGE 2010 ISSUES SEEMS TO BE FIXED!
Lost my perm-root though (didn't have S-OFF)... :/
I have the clockwork recovery so I can't update.
Does anyone has the zip package?
from htc twitter:
European Desire HD / Desire Z users – look out for an update rolling out from today that will make your mobile experience even better.
Works perfectly fine here. Updating took about 6-7 minutes here (including reboot)
Promised fixes are improved performance and camera improvements. Phone runs smooth, but I didn't notice any very big increase yet. Camera seems to be a tad faster, but that could have been caused by the reboot as well.
Don't install any OTA if you are rooted/S-OFF !
You will lose root and might not be able to get it back if HTC have tried to close the loopholes exploited via the current root/S-OFF methods.
Far better to wait until the devs have had a chance to check things out and make sure the update is rootable/S-OFFable.
If you don't care about root etc then this warning doesn't apply ,but I suspect the number of members this applies to is a minority.

Just to add, the RUU for this version is already in the dev forum, and we already know there are some issues with rooting it.

Urmm, are you referring to the Exchange issue where initial sync would work but then "sync protocol error" would occur after a few syncs?
Would be so awesome if that is fixed, interesting that in the last few days HTC support are telling me that they are still handling it as an issue on their side, and actually requested that I open a user for them on my Exchange server...
Downloading now.
Well, no dice, tried syncing exchange and getting "sync protocol error". might try to remove and re-add the account, but I tend to think it'll be a waste of time.
Duppsko, can you let me know what your Exchange issue was before, and what did you see fixed after?
Correct, I had the protocol sync issue, couldn't sync either calendar or contacts after a few syncs... also, sending e-mail and opening attachments didn't use to work..
When the DHD got this exchange-fix OTA earlier in november, users said that you have to delete the activesync partnership completely, and then readd your account.. that's what I did, and my issues are all gone!
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using Tapatalk
Last night, my phone was fine. THis morning, I woke up and had no sound playing back through the phone... Thought I'd do an online update to see if that would fix it. Said there was an update, so went ahead and updated...
Now, I still have no sound, but also getting problems with the wi-fi. I try loading it and it says (for a split second) "Loading" then comes up with error...
I also tried watching a video, and get "unable to play this video".
Dunno whether it's an app I downloaded last night, or whether there might've been something else that caused it...
Tried doing a backup to factory reset, but cannot backup any of the application settings because I don't have root...
Hopefully someone will be able to get root back for this update so I can backup, and factory reset
OK, now sound is back working. Dunno why or how... But I still can't get the wifi to work... Having read around on the net, have heard of people who have had problems when updating with ota updates on htc when rooted. So could this be the problem?! I hadn't even thought about the rooting at the time of update... D'oh...
Hopefully can resolve this asap
Its too tempting for me having that little download notification.
I have perm-root and s-off (but not radio... the fake version).
Would love to know what will happen...
Also is there a changelog?

1. What exchange fix did the dhd users get? Many of the recent complaints about this problem are still coming from dhd users...
2. When you say delete the partership you mean from the exchange server or do you mean removing the account from the device? The first option got the sync working for me for a couple of days and died again (last week, before the ota upgrade). But should I try deleting the partnership and/or readd the account on my phone now, after the ota upgrade?

I did the OTA update without realising i would lose root.. and now SetCPU doesn't work (it's the only app i use root for).
From what i gather, there is no easy solution, yet? VisionaryR12 says i already have root..
I have started a new thread in the dev forum about rooting progress on this new ROM. Please check that thread for update info (but don't just post in there "When will we get root ?", because it's a thread to talk about the dev stuff).

Sorry that I didn't specify this, I just removed the account from the device (thus deleting all existing contacts, e-mails etc.) and then readded the account. As you say, just deleting the partnership from the exchange server (in OWA) doesn't work, I've tried that before this OTA was released with no luck... I'm pretty sure that you HAVE to delete the account on your device to make this work, however, it doesn't hurt to delete both account on the device AND partnership in OWA...
Edit: My god, it is now possible to use "search server" from within the mail client (select folder, and press the search "hw-key", and then select search server)... Best christmas present ever!

Message bug since update

I have a very strange bug since downloading and installing the latest OTA update. I'm just running a stock system if you need to know.
Basically after the update I went to messages and some old messages I have are shown as being received from the completely wrong person :S These messages were not originally received on my desire HD but I put them all on it when I got the phone. The original person who sent them is in my contact list and linked with their facebook account and all that. Before the update it was showing the messages as being sent from the correct person.
Is there any way to fix this...it's very frustrating as there are over 50 messages which it has done this for.
I cannot say if it's doing it with new messages as that person is away on holiday so I can't check but messages received on my DHD from them seem to be ok...it's only happened with the messages I transferred onto the phone.
Thanks
Also I've now tried backing up all those messages to my gmail account using the SMS Backup+ app. They appear on my gmail from the original sender, then I deleted them off my phone and restored them using the app but it goes back to being shown as the wrong person (it keeps linking it to the same wrong person). The only details I have of the wrong person are what has been sync'd from facebook. There is no connection between them and the original sender (and I've checked all the contact links).
Also I wanted to try deleting that wrong person and then restoring the messages but I cannot figure out how to delete them off the phone. They are only on the phone because of the facebook contact sync so when I try delete contact it gives me a list of my contacts which they are not on as they're only in the 'people' section. I guess deleting them of facebook would work but I don't want to do that if possible.
Sorry if this is getting confusing.
well, tried to unlink facebook contacts with your contacts ?
I have this problem as well, only happened after the latest update.
I think to rectify this a new update will be released from HTC as this bug was also present on the original Desire phone, and resolved with a update.
Very annoying I agree, lets hope its fixed soon.
Just out of interest which country are you in and which network are you on?

I'm in the UK on o2 but the phone was bought new unlocked.
I even went as far as deleting the person off facebook. The messages then appeared as they should from the original contact but I then re-added that person and as soon as they accepted it linked the messages back to them. Its so strange as these people have nothing to do with each other, their names aren't even similar.

Well I thought about it but decided to contact HTC support first. They suggested that I backup all my contacts to my SD card then delete them all off the phone. I really didn't see how this would help since the person being linked to the messages wasn't a 'contact' he was just added to the People app by facebook.
Also another thing I noticed is that on facebook some people choose to put their phone numbers up which get put on the phone when you sync your facebook contacts with the phone. This particular person decided to be clever and instead of putting actual numbers they put things like 'Mobile: I'm not telling you' so the number was saved on the phone as 'I'm not telling you'. I decided to go in and edit these on the phone (cause you can't delete them) to just numbers i.e. '12345' so that none of his numbers were text.
Then in desperation I went and did what HTC recommended, deleting my contacts and restoring them and the problem was fixed!!!!
Unfortunately I can't confirm which of the 2 methods I tried actually work cause I did them without checking to see if they problem had been fixed in between.
So for anyone else with this problem. Check the person who the messages are being linked to, if they have text for their phone numbers, edit them to numbers (any numbers). If this doesn't work go to People>Menu>Import/Export>Export to SD card, then select all the contacts. Then in People go to Menu>Delete>Menu>Select all and confirm. Then restore the contacts by going to People>Menu>Import/Export>Import from SD card and that should do it!!

why wont MMS pics download?!!!

Some come tru others dont unless people add text to pic
Some of my MMSs won't download either. I never thought of it being related to whether or not there's text with them before but will keep an eye out.
I thought it might be limited to MMSs from particular contacts so keeping an eye on that and will tidy up my contacts details if needed.
The two I successfully received from my wife had text in them. The one I got from my buddy had no text, and I couldn't download the pic in that one. I then sent one to my wife with no text, but she said she got it, so I don't know what the situation is. My buddy's which didn't come through was sent from TMo > VZN, whereas my wife and I each have the GNex so perhaps it's a content + carrier combination.
Early adopters = late beta testers
I love the phone but wanna smash it sometimes

Aye I've received 2 MMSs from people on AT&T. One worked (it was a video), the other didn't (picture). I had to hold-click on the message and say "Download Attachment", then browse to the file using Astro to see it.

Anyone come up with a fix? or do we have to wait for google?

[Q] Need help with strange exchange email problem

I am having a very strange problem with exchange email with the native email client. I am trying to sync to a corporate Exchange 2003 server. All of the settings are accepted but it is not syncing the most recent emails. Oddly enough, if I select the option to sync one days worth of email, it syncs (approximately) email that is over one day old. If I select the option to sync a month's worth of email, it syncs email that is (again approximately) a month old. In addition, after the initial sync it doesn't sync any emails any longer, even if I hit refresh manually.
This problem only seemed to surface with the last update that was pushed from Acer (the small one after the big update that took me to 3.2.1). That happened on the first day that I got the A100 though so I didn't have it working for long before that. And in case you're wondering, I have not had this problem on any other device that I have tried. This includes two Nokia Symbian phones, a Nexus S running ICS and an Asus Transformer running 3.2.1. I have gone back and forth with Acer's email support and they have been no help at all.
Can anyone confirm for me that they have been running exchange email with the native app on a fully updated A100 without any problems? And an ideas on how to fix this problem for me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
doesn't anyone use exchange email on their a100? I'd like to at least confirm that some people have it working properly.
My exchange works fine, but I'm on Exch 2010 w Sp1

Thanks. You have the latest updates for the a100 as well (2.007.04)? And the build number on mine is EMEA_GB (Europe, Middle East and Africa) for some reason even though I bought it in Toronto as well. Is that the same as yours?

Yup same thing as me... I got mine in Toronto as well from Kijiji though haha. Lots of torontonians on this forum!
Haha ya not sure why that is!
So looks like this might just be a problem with Exchange 2003 in particular I suppose. I just installed an app called "Exchange Email" which seems to be based on the stock email client and it's working fine. It's missing some features though like a working calendar so I would still like to figure out what's going on with the stock email client.

Check to see if the exchange server has all of the service packs installed... But really? Exchange 2003 is almost 10 years old... might be time for an upgrade
Yep I know it's old, but it's the corporate server and I don't have any control over it!
I am on Exchange server 2003, on an Acer tablet running android 3.2.1, and about a week ago, I started getting the same issue. If you find a solution, let me know and I'll do the same!
So it's not just me! Do you recall if it just started happening after the last patch?
I've only dealt with the Acer email support so I will try calling them as well. You should let them know too so they hopefully begin to understand that it's a problem and actually do something about it.

We're up to date according to the version number. And I'm able to sync just fine with a number of other devices (both Android and Symbian), so this is something specific to the A100.

Have you tried reverting back to 2.007.01 and staying there since it was working before you updated it to .04?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I believe that I would have to root in order to revert back? I had asked Acer if there was a way to do it and they said no. I haven't attempted a root yet.
just use recovery to flash the update.zip file for build 2.007.01 and dont take the ota update to .04 aftewords.
I tried that before and it didn't work. I could've been doing something wrong but I downloaded the update.zip file from the official stock rom thread and put it on an external sd card. When I powered up holding the volume up key I get the android guy on the screen but then just get the yellow exclamation mark and the process stops. This happened both the update and the full package. I thought that this didn't work either because I was trying to go back to an older package or because I wasn't rooted.
No that just means your recovery partition is messed up, not sure how or why but for more info you can pull /cache/recovery/last_log and post it here. From that file I can tell why it failed.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I'm a noob so I'm not entirely sure where to check that. I checked in my cache folder with Root Explorer and there's nothing in there. Am I looking in the right place?
Sorry I meant ES File Explorer, not Root Explorer
ES and astro wont be able to see in that folder, you'll need to use either root explorer, script manager or adb to get to the recovery directory inside that cache folder.
