One MMS issue and fix in 2.1 ROM - Hero, G2 Touch Android Development

I had tried some newer 2.1 ROM, such as VillainROM 5.5, 6.0.x, 6.1, Cronos Droid 1.x and SenseHero 2.1b3. MMS is only works on VillainROM 5.5 (VR5.5).
I already setup correct and same APN for each rom, also updated telephony.db using sqlite3 or mmszap. Each rom settings are the same, only VR5.5 can received MMS each test, others rom are similar error such as 'Generic network error' or 'download failed'. I had tried to manual switch off data connection and re-download MMS, not work. I had tried to make mms APN to default, only works one or two time. But I setup my data connection is always keep online, so if I received MMS, I can't switch APN, from logcat I see it keep connecting, but failed to connect, so strange.
OK, at last, I found the problem. That's system/lib/libhtc_ril.so . Yes, it's RIL, that controlling phone's radio. I replace libhtc_ril.so from VR5.5 to SenseHero 2.1B3, MMS is working like VR5.5.
If anyone has MMS issue, and make sure you already set correct APN and telephony.db, you can try this.
Attached libhtc_ril.so from VR5.5, flash-able update zip.
Make sure you already BACKUP the old file!!

MMS was atleast working in the last cronos rom 3.4, i just dumped the file from 3.4 oc rom.
It diffrent in size, so there is probaly something changed.

It denpends your Network Operater. Maybe some network is bug with some radio.
I am using 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26

Doesn't work for me - after flashing my phone shows "no service" always, and doesn't even prompt to unlock the SIM card. I'm running same radio as you and Chronos 1.4.1
Have tried everything now and still no mms!

This fix doesn't work on Chronos 1.4.1, it will make your phone NOT RECEIVE any signal at all. (tried myself and ended up doing a full wipe and re-flash Chronos again)

I am using cronos 1.4.1 too. but I am only using GSM, not sure WCDMA

OK, I figured out what was wrong - there wasn't enough free space to copy the new file, which is slightly larger. If you try and push it through adb you get an out of memory error. I used Androidcommander to delete something else, then the copy worked OK and the radio works.
Once that was done I did the telephony.db fix and mms is now working

[TO DEV's] Data-connection troubles

Hi
I've been updating my ROM whenever a new one came to my interest.
Unfortunately some of the latest updates has resulted in loss of data-connection.
After a few tests, I found out that the problem is in the ROM, so I guess you've been cleaning up, and unfortunately for me, deleted some nessecary settings for data-connection in Denmark. Dunno which, but I've been going through all of my settings, APN, radio, etc., and all are fully updated to newest versions, and my APN settings are correct. Still i get no 3g or HSDPA icon and when i go into internet browsing, it just says page can't be shown.
After doing all I could, I tried going back to SetROM 1.0, and then I got data-connection back.
I've been using Defrost since 1.8 with no problems, but around 2.0f it went bas
Now I tried:
SetROM 3.5
OpenDesire
LeeDroid
DJ Droid
and none of them seems to be working with data-connection for me, except SetROM 1.0
I dunno if there's any other way around this, but for now, I seem to be stucked with the old ROM, which works OK, but i would really like to be able to use the newest ROM's again.
Love all your work
Best regards
Lars
EDIT: SetROM 1.0, LeeDroid 1.2, Mcr r21 is tested and data connection works in these releases
I tried going into phone system settings via "dialing" *#*#INFO#*#* (*#*#4636#*#*), and got following information:
Ping IP Addr: Fail: IP addr not reachable
Ping Hostname (www.google.com): Fail: Host unreacheable
HTTP Cliet test: Fail: IOException
Signal strength: -67 dBm 23asu (But I'm in an area with 100% availability normally)
GSM service: In service
GPRS service: Disconnected - why?
Network type: (Switching between) EDGE or UMTS
GSM disconnetcs:

but still no dataconnection
Did you try to re-flash the radio?
Also, you could try to flash a RUU
Tried flashing the radio 3 times after i did a full wipe and then installed another ROM afterwards...
haven't thought about the RUU's yet, so I'll just try that and get back on that
Thx for heads up
EDIT: But he RUU's are 2.1 (Eclair), right? well, those which comes with RUU
solved
(NOT REALLY) SOLVED
It seems there is an error in the gsm/WCDMA-module...
Settings -> wireless and network -> mobile data
It was set to Auto, and I chose it to always use GSM, now I'm back online with the newest updates an ROM's
It seems it still get an error sometimes, where it goes back into automode, and I need to set it again... dunno if this should be looked in to
EDIT:
Okay - it falls out a lot... can't stay online for more than 10 secs max...
Doesn't seem to work anyway - it says connected, but pages still can't shown
Bummer
Furthermore I have to menu's called "mobile network", dunno if they are interfering with eachother. They are there, when on DJ Droid and LeeDroid. Tried deactivating one of them, but no luck... Trying again with DeFrost, which dont use HTC Sense, and sees if that has something to do with it, couldn't get that to work earlier either, but I seem stuck with LeeDroid, and will se what there is to do in other builds without Sense
I Have wiped data/factory reset, cache and dalvik cache, before flashing
Also, I was thinking about the auto apps recovery feature could have something to do with it... haven't been looking much into that yet, just noticed when installing a new app, all my apps where still there after wipe and flashing new ROM (from Defrost 2.0 to Defrost 2.1 etc.) and I think I got a double of some of the programs :S
I give up
I've been through everything to my knowledge and what I could find on google
Only ROM that seems to work is SetROM 1.0, then I hope a new build in the future will work with danish networks again
I have tried to get an answer on the same problem But it seems like there is no help to get. Right now im using FIRERIZN_W_1 which i think are a very good and stable rom and must important works in denmark.
i have no problems with any of those roms, currently running MCR r5 and speedtesting my mobile network to 260 kB/s
in Denmark that is
I just found the problem. I had to create my APN settings manually and now it work like a charm.
To you other danes which have the same problem as me, just contact you operator for the APN settings.
I found this link for my operatør, its not the right phone, but the settings are the same for me.
http://www.callme.dk/kundeservice/mobil/mobilopsaetninger/opsaetning-af-sony-ericsson-x10/
Hope that can help you guys which have the same problem.
Okay. Thx, will try one of those rom's instead. Setrom 1.0 works okay too, also 3g and froyo, but of course its not fully upgrade as 3.5
I allready tried putting in the apn settings manually, but no luck
Thx for the answers though. Very much appreciated

Do you have a link for the mcr?
I just rooted for the first time a month ago, though I have had, and preordered to month before release, the first android mobile, HTC magic and never left android since... but I'm glad that I took the leap and rooted, just too bad that 3g doesn't work in all rom releases
But what I meant to say was that I dunno all releases yet. Only tried defrost, DJ Droid, leedroid, setrom and opendesire
EDIT: I'm on FireRIZN now, and everything seems to work great, so thx for that I don't like the red theme that much though, so would like to test out Mcr too, just to try it

I have issues with data too. In Sweden though. But my problems comes and goes and persists for about a minute. I am 100% sure my problem is related to the radio file because on my HTC Magic I had this same problem with some 6.xx radio-versions also called "new radio" but not with the old series, 3.xx. on my HTC Desire however its actually the oldest version of the radio that works the best. Last I would also like to remind you of the servicemenu that you can reach by "dialing" *#*#INFO#*#*. In the first menu, phone information, you can perform a ping test and view low level network stats, and also set preferred network mode.
I don't think it's the radio which causes it, of course im not sure, but I downgraded to an older radio, without a better result. I think they have cleaned up the roms to much and perhaps deleted some settings that we need in the nordics. Of course they are not importent to them, while the ROM still fully works in their contries, and they get a cleaner and faster ROM. Unfortunate for us though.
Things you can check are the APN settings. get them from your tele-provider, and set them manually.
Otherwise, try wiping data/factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache before installing new ROM
And at last - which gave me success - try another ROM. I tried most of the ROMS except Modaco custom ROM (MCR - Finally found it) and FIRERIZN. FIRERIZN worked for me, and is going to try Modaco shortly, which should be close to stock ROM, but upgrade to latest builds and kernel, etc.

Okay, haven't tried "dialing" *#*#INFO#*#*
But downgraded to 4.xx.xx radio from 5.xx.xx and didn't help. But perhaps the INFO dial would help on the other ROMS i used ealier, as DeFrost etc.
QUESTION: Do I have to become Premium member at Modaco's homepage to download the Mcr? I would be sorry to pay 10-30$ and then find out that the 3g doesn't work :S
I'm on Modaco Custom ROM (Mcr) r21 now and 3g works here too.
Dunno what the difference between r5 and r21 is, but it seems r5 is a newer relase. The r5 seems to be accessable by kitchen only, which requires Premium membership (10$)
Considering bying, but need to check out the benefits at first
I guess the reason for the data connection loss must be concluded to be due to ROM updates/cleaning of ROM.
Perhaps a MOD could be made to get back the old settings for nordic, which I believe must have been cleaned away
Thanks for all the help guys. Think I'm sticking with Mcr r21 for a while, untill further info has been released in other releases
EDIT: Mcr 21 is close to stock Froyo (thumps up), on the other hand, phone storage is pretty low :S Don't think camera works either, nor video recorder, I'm sure this is fixed in r5 (payed version)
Tried running a Ping test in one of the ROMS now, when in phone system menu.

Guess this is the most important stuff

I got an option to update SMSC, dunno what that is, but need to fill in a line
Ciphering is ON, dunno what that do

Yes! Also the settings I got. I also tried using APN TYPE for internet: Default, supl
which is was called in LeeDroid 1.2, where it worked. But got those settings as you reffer to set now
Okay. The problem IS that the gprs won't connect. I tried ping testing in working Rom and non-working Rom.
The apn settings are the exact same in both. Wcdma is set to preferred in both situations.
In working Rom the gprs connects - no problem
In non-working gprs status says connecting and then switches to disconnected after a while, when it can't get any connection
What could be the cause of this? And how do we solve it?
Tried updating to latest ROMs and radio is 5.xx.xx.008, the newest
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
FINALLY SOLVED
Okay, so here is the delio
A lot of things can cause data connection trouble, so i will try to pin out the unuasual errors.
1. Flash a new radio - try updating to the newest, if you got an old. Just got a new radio and data don't work anymore? Try flash the old radio again.
2. Set APN settings manually and activate mobile network
2.1 (In my case) I had to set proxy and port number manually under APN settings. I didn't need to do this with older ROM's, and they are not normally given by the tele provider. I called them and got them, had to wait for 5 minutes when set, and then it found the network.
3. Set preferred network to WCDMA (3G) or GSM (2G) instead of Auto mode. I had to do this too, to make it work
You can also use dial pad and dial *#*#INFO#*#* (*#*#4636#*#*) and go into phone settings and make a ping test. Also, you get more settings here for preferred network type.

[Q] What Am I Missing - Adding A New APN to apns.xml

(Hope this is the right area to post, its more leaning towards ARHD ROM in particular but it may turn out ot be Android specific)
Im not 'new' to roms but the whole cooking/recompiling apks is a little past my comfort zone, but still learning Looong time reader, third time poster.
DesireHD, fully rooted s-off etc etc
ARHD with apaches kernal usually.
Ive just transferred to GiffGaff (GG) from Orange which runs on the O2-UK Network, on first boot of ROM HTCsetup asks to select a carrier and lists for me O2 Prepay, O2 Postpay and Tesco (again runs on O2 Network)
I have to select O2 Prepay then eventually reconfigure the APN by deleting the O2 defaults either manually, with APN B&R or using the giffgaffapn tool a fellow GG user wrote.
My goal is to add a APN to the main list so on first boot I can choose 'GiffGaff' as a carrier and have it auto configure the APN so Data is active during the initial setup.
What Ive found out so far:
Post that I found to push me in right direction.
I know CM has GG in its APN list as the two seperate entries (Data and MMS) which work fine and is needed for the San Francisco to work on GG but a single entry for both works fine.
It seems /system/etc/apns-conf.xml is redundent in 2.2.1 base and APNs are read from system/framework/framework-res.apk /res/xml/apns.xml
Adding the APN to /system/etc/apns-conf.xml AFTER initial boot could possibly work but am trying to get it to work on first boot.
I think this is the correct data to add the the list
Code:
<apn carrier="GiffGaff" apn="giffgaff.com" mcc="234" mnc="10" user="giffgaff" password="password" proxy="193.113.200.195" port="8080" server="http://mmsc.mediamessaging.co.uk:8002" mmsc="http://mmsc.mediamessaging.co.uk:8002" mmsproxy="193.113.200.195" mmsport="8080" type=""/>
I can decomplie, edit the xml, recompile then resign but thats where I stumble.
The output apk is mbs smaller then the original and gives bootloops when recompiled into the ROM.
Im obviously missing something here but cant seem to figure out what.

Rooted htc desire cdma broken MMS

I've seen a lot of posts regarding mms being broken after rooting. Has anyone gotten it to work? I am with Cellcom Green Bay, WI.
Sent from my HTC Desire CDMA using XDA App
I'm actually with Cellcom in Green Bay as well! I'm running Cyanogenmod 7.1. If you have any questions about what works and what doesn't, feel free to ask me! I've actually tried quite a few ROMs on the Desire.
And just to be clear, rooting worked fine. I'm able to text and take calls. However, with the ROM I'm running, I had to download a different text messaging app, because the default app doesn't split messages longer than 160 characters, so the messages wouldn't send when they were really long. Easy fix though. No worries.
Ligor,
Great to hear that you have things working on your desire. Rooting worked fine and I can make/receive calls fine. Data and internet work fine along with sending and receiving regular text messages. MMS picture messages don't work. I get failure messages back when sending or receiving MMS.
Can you send and receive MMS?
Thanks,
Mike
Sent from my PB99400 using XDA App
I'm testing it now. It appeared to send correctly. I'll let you know if the person I sent it to responds.
EDIT: MMS is not working for me right now. I'm looking into some fixes for it. It appears you would need to install a new mms.apk for the appropriate version of the ROM you're running and change some APN settings.
Ok. I am still on the Cellcom stock ROM. I can see the APN settings and they still appear to be Cellcom. Don't know what may have changed though. I'll keep looking and post if I figure something out. Please let me know if you figure it out.
Thanks!

im also on a cdma desire, but with us cellular. i have similar issues with mms, sometimes they will send, most of the time not. running cm7.1 too. i was using some other sense rom from 2fastroms that i had to mess with the apn settings to get it to actually send any kind of message, but never could get mms to work.
Seems to be a combination of the UTSI_* setting and APN settings. This post leads down that path. I haven't had a chance to try changing anything.
forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/14506-apn-mms-issue/page__st__20
My phone has UTSI_005 set and it looks like it should be UTSI_006
Also found that the CID might be set wrong after rooting.
You went over my head with that post lol. As far as just getting root, I had no problem with the stock rooted rom.
Sent from my HTC Desire CDMA using XDA App
UPDATE
I got MMS working today by following the instructions on this site -
2fastroms.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=202
There is a file specific to Cellcom that has the CID updated already
==> Cellcom_mms-fix.zip
The instructions below worked for me. Thanks to 2fastroms.com for this!
I did get a "general network error" when sending a picture, but the message did go through. Also received a cannot download image when receiving a picture message, but it did download.
Step 1:
You need copy the downloaded zip to your sd card. Boot into recovery by using reboot to recovery if a option in your rom. If not power down the device. Hold volume down and power till the h-boot screen shows. Once it does use volume down/up to navigate to recovery. Hit power to select.
Step 2:
Go to install zip from sd-card > carrier_mms-fix.zip. Select yes and let it flash. Then select reboot system.
Step 3:
When rebooted plug your phone into your pc. Open cmd or terminal running the below commands.
Code: Select alladb shell
Enter
Code: Select allsu
Enter hitting ok on the prompt.
Code: Select allcat /dev/mtd/mtd0 > /sdcard/misc.img
Enter
Code: Select all/data/local/flash_image misc /sdcard/new-misc.img
Enter. Once done reboot and see if mms now works. If on sense it should if on aosp you need a modded mms.apk from this
did you try using root explorer mount as r/w then go to data then data again then scroll down to com.android telaphony and long press it hit rename and put a 1 at the end save reboot then it should work thats what i found some where and it worked for me on many roms..

[Q] CM 11 data connection troubleshooting (RESOLVED)

I have been running CM 11 Nightly builds, and everything has been working out pretty good, until just a day or so ago.
Now suddenly I find that I never get a data connection (3G, etc) - works fine on Wi-Fi of course though.
Using the FC09 multiboot, I am able to prove that it is not an issue with my phone hardware or my Sprint account.
FC09 has data connection and everything is cool, until I reboot into latest CM 11 (right now = cm-11-20140305-NIGHTLY).
(Since I don't have enough posts yet to ask this in the development thread, I thought I'd try here and see if I had any luck.)
In trying to research this, I see some talk of "APN settings" - but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to access those settings to change them
(Some advice said to speak "Open APN" into the voice dialer? But that is not doing anything for me...)
I guess I am also curious if this is happening to anyone else using CM 11 Nightly builds?
Again, the data connection works when I "multiboot" FC09, but cannot get it to work on latest CM 11 Nightly.
Any help or suggestions on things to check/tweak are highly appreciated - thank you in advance.
Yap... that append to me also, i'm on a GT-I9000 with the same NIGHTLY version. That must be a rom problem, because with the previous version, worked ok.
Getting closer to a solution (?)
Same problem (currently running cm-11-20140306-NIGHTLY)
I did finally figure out how to acces the "Open APNs" screen.
My mistake was trying to say "Open APN" from the regular phone dialer, which just threw the voice command to Google.
Then it suddenly clicked - they meant the separate application that is named "Voice Dialer".
(thought I would post that in case it saves anybody else some headache)
So then I found this buzzmobile link that lists "Sprint APN Settings for Android (US)"
http://buzzmobile.us/sprint-apn-settings-android-us/
I thought I was just about to get this all taken care of... BUT, now here is the problem:
No matter how many times I have tried to enter and re-enter the APN settings, they are not being saved.
I don't know if anyone has any experience with this issue, but if you have any advice, I am all ears - thank you.

Boot into the temporary FC09 installation and try the "##DATA#" dialer code. If thats not the right code then its gotta be another one that allows you to access these settings. You may also need your MSL.
My journey
OK, so I'm back in business again, and thought I would share...
1) Booted into the "multiboot" FC09 and installed 'APN Backup & Restore' app
2) Made a backup .xml file from there
3) Rebooted back into CM11
4) Installed 'APN Backup & Restore' app - BUT - could not restore the APN .xml file yet - special steps needed to get this to work with KitKat
5) Installed 'ES File Explorer File Manager' app
6) Followed instructions in this article to change 'APN Backup & Restore' to a system app:
How To Install Any App As A System App On Android [Guide]
NOTE FOR KITKAT: where it says to move the app to /system/app, you actually have to move it to /system/priv-app
7) After following that, I opened up 'APN Backup & Restore' app, but I was confused that it still said "Unfortunately APNs cannot be restored or deleted on this device because Android 4.0+ does not allow 3rd party apps to Write APN Settings."
8) Then I realized that I still needed to go into the settings of the app and click 'Disable ICS Check'
9) Then the app was recognized as a system app and I could do a restore from my .xml file
[EDIT: attaching a .zip of the .xml file that I snagged from booting into FC09]

Mobile Data Not Working (not completely)

Hello, I have a rather strange problem with my phone.
After the Update which has just been released (MIUI Global 10.3.1.0 (ODEMIXM)
he began to behave in a strange way my mobile internet.
For example: Youtube, Facebook, Messenger, Google Maps work normally.
And all other applications no longer (even an application to Check system update)
I'm popping up a message: No connection.
I did different things: Reset Internet settings,
change network settings in options (* # * # 4636 # * # *)
and even a hard reset.
if you have questions Yes on Wi-Fi works normally.
Greetings!
Try factory reset first.
mine has similar problems after a call. Some Internet stuff still works, most don't, unless I disable and re-enable mobile internet from the dropdown menu. Did you find a solution, MrKaim?
Same problem in my phone too. The only app which is remain usable of the internet is the Chrome browser. Messeaging apps, navigation, ebay, etc... is always lost somehow the connection: even when I using the app: for example I browsing in the ebay app and after 10mins,its says sonetging got wrong and I can go on only when I turn wifi/adata off and on. And yes, ön my mi mix 2, the problem is still exist on wifi and mobil net too.
Mi Mix 2 Havoc OS 3.7 Mobile Internet
I am facing a similar issue.
Has anyone found a solution for this ?
I'm running a ROM : Havoc OS 3.7 Android 10
Also tried ROM : AICP and Lineage.. Same Issue!
I keep shuffling LTE / 3G it connects sometime but the connection is unstable.
Permanently displays an X in the mobile signal as if there is no mobile data connection.
Please share a solution if anyone has found one.
I realize only some data isn't working but you could save your apns-conf.xml from another setup where you have no data issues and everything works perfect (I always keep one handy) and delete your current apns-conf.xml in /system/etc and system/product/etc and paste the good one in your /system/etc and set permissions on new apns-conf.xml to 0644 using root explorer or whatever root file manager you use then go to settings on your device/networks and internet/mobile network/access point names/ and top right hit the three dot menu select reset to default and wait till you see LTE show in status bar and reboot. If it's an apn issue that will solve it.
My Mix 2 isn't hooked up anymore to a service but I do use it on wifi at home but the apns-conf.xml on stock rom/miui may be slightly different than they are on an AOSP custom rom. I know that's been the case for me on every device I've done this on so be sure if you do give this a shot that you use your miui apns-conf.xml on miui roms and AOSP apn xml on AOSP custom roms so that it will work.
I've been using this process when I have had any data issues at all on my last 3 devices and it's worked 100% every single time when after installing a custom rom I've had no data this works to get LTE going. Credit to spaceminer for this info on the apn delete and swap, data fix as he's who I first learned this from on another forum.
