Guys,
Trying to root a HTC Desire (telstra) and finished the first step, but when I went to put into recovery mode it doesn't boot up with the triangle. It brings up the telstra screen and freezes. I can't seem to get it into recovery so I can run step two.
Can someone please give me some advise here.
I am running on Windows XP, r5 alt method from Modaco.
Please help!
Thanks
Reran Step 1 and that seemed to fix it. Sorry.

Did alpharev go success full or are you stuck at step 3.
If your not stuck at step 3 and have not finished S-offing make sure you do not reboot or pull the battery and contact alpharev via irc chat.
@theghost1233, hi everything was done accordingly and it was success in 3rd step as well. so alpharev dint have no errors. Can you please tell me how to restore it back or any firmware you think i can use?
hi before rooting it was showing hboot version 0.75 and after rooting 0.93. can anyone tell what is the best way to do it?
Regards
If you've got a gold card I'd get the 2.29.405.2 PB99IMG.zip from shipped-roms.com and flash that to at least have a working phone
hi can you please tell me in a little more detail please thanks

hi i need help.
my desire is currently plugged into other PC, alpharev s-OFF is in process.
however it stopped on step 3 (the one before it says DONT TOUCH UR PHONE NOW, U WILL BRICK THE PHONE)
it says : "normal nand detected. non pvt4"
on PC it says "waiting for flashing to complete"
i had both the drivers that come with HTC Sync AND the modified HBOOT from unrevoked. my desire is a PVT3 hboot 0.80
i used the CD method, MD5 sums were OK.
i used GingerVillain 2.0 when starting S-OFF procedure.
plz help me, what should i do? unplug or what...
Does the phone say somthing like it's now safe to use back and boot into recovery?

FAQ on alpharevs page:
Something went wrong! The livecd told me to get help!! Is my phone bricked?
First of all, leave your phone turned on and plugged in to USB. Your phone will most likely not be bricked, unless you REBOOT!
Before that happens, please contact an operator on irc.freenode.net , channel #alpharev , as instructed on the livecd.
The operators there should be able to provide you with some more hands-on help.
actually i rebooted it and it worked. HBOOT and RECOVERY remained untouched, but system didnt boot up anymore.
flashed gingervillain again, then ran a RUU to go to stock, then unrevoked to get root and finally tried S-OFF again and it worked.
it must have been the gingervillain
i think that i could reboot the phone without bricking it is because alpharev didnt dump old hboot (which would appear on screen)

someone realls should update the tutorial. There is no need to downgrad to older hboot with the newest unrevoked.
EDIT: Is your phone branded? Did you write down you exact version number before you flashed anything?
Have you tried to run the new unrevoked in the state its in now?
Branded?version number?
What you mean....
I try to run the new unrevoked3 but program just say "waiting for device"
I check in device manager and can see that Android bootloader iinterface appear.
But nothing happend....
What to to??HELP ME
I need to get my phone back to life...

Did you enable USB Debugging? Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging.
There probably is a way to recover your phone, but it isn't helping that you didnt write down you version numbers and/or read in the forum before you started the root process.
Is your phone branded?: Is it a provider-phone i.e. t-mobile, vodafone etc? To give a definite answer on that you need to know the exact version number (like 2.29.405.5). Without this number you can afaik just guess - did you see a logo other than htc's on bootup? Where there any provider-specific apps preinstalled on your phone? Where did you buy it?
My first guess is to boot into fastboot (power on while holding "back"-key) and flash the correct ruu ( Download here)
If its unbranded, the correct RUU is RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe.
After that your phone is completely back to stock and you can retry the rooting-prodedure but with the newest unrevoked and without downgrading hboot
EDIT: Am I correct in thinking that you can't boot up your phone and a stuck on the first htc-logo (before the annoying sound)? If no, forget all the above.
Can you boot into recovery? (power on while hitting vol-, then wait 10 seconds, then highlight "recovery" with vol-/vol+, select with power, wait another 5 seconds, hit vol+ + power (I think ^^)
Hi
I check before I do the downgrade procedure that its hads this number:2.29.405.5
And I try to get unrevoked now and no communication.
I also had USB debugging on before it crash.
Now its just freeze on HTC logo and after that a red triangle with a phone symbol.

That means your phone is not branded ('405' is the important part).
The get unrevoked working you need your phone to be booted up. So you probably need to run the ruu first.
How can I start ruu?
What is the step to install that RUU?
Do I need to install something on the SDcard?
Do I need a PC to do this?

As I said, you download the RUU[...].exe I posted earlier. Then you boot your phone into fastboot (power+back-Key ) and run the downloaded ruu.exe on your PC. Piece of cake.
But wait for someone else to confirm.
I try to start the RUU but got an Error....on the PC
What to do?
I run Windows7 on PC.
Why can`t I run the RUU file??any clue....
Are you using 32 or 64 Bit? Sometimes 64 bit cause problems. What did the error say?
Just right click and and run as administrator.. run your RUU that way
Well, I use 32bit Enterprise version and right click as administrator, still fail to open....
Help......
This is the error message below:
SetupNew\setup.cpp(140)
PAPP
PVENDOR:
PGUID
$
@Wndows Vista Service Pack 1(7601)
IE Version 9.0.8112.16421
What RUU is for me????
I have Telia simcard...Its seems that your info dont help me....
There must be some expert out there....can someone help me please...
I run this
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe.
Its start but get an error "170" USB connection...well
I am confused now....seems that I cant connect to phone..
Help me....please
Is the phone dead now????do I need to send it back to vendor for repair???
Hey guys, something happened to my old SD card and it became corrupt and I cannot access it. Anyways, I bought a new sdcard and I'm having trouble getting any version of android on it. I have a HTC Desire CMDA from us cellule. S-off and hboot .98. When I turn my phone on it get the screen with the skateboarding androids. However, I cannot select recovery to install a rom like I usually would. I followed this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268
with the RUU for USCC from HTC. I tried the method that renames the rom so it will load automatically. When I do this it looks like it's going to work but I get to a screen that says:
parsing...[sd zip]
it then lists seven steps and I believe normally it should ask me if I want to update at this point. However, mine does not ask me this so I can't apply the update...
Can anyone help? I'm open to any suggestions.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
look on my guide and read "repairing recovery" and follow the steps. then flash a ROM.
Thank you for your help so far. I tried following your guide, however when I run AndroidFlasher nothing happens. The log is empty. Could it be having trouble communicating with my phone? Please point me in the right direction.
I also wanted to fill you in on my current status. I have installed hboot drivers so my computer recognized my phone when it is attached as android bootloader interface. However, I cannot communicate with it through ABD or fastboot commands, at least not that I am aware of. I am more than happy to donate to anyone that can help me out as it would save me a great deal of trouble.
I’m having trouble rooting the HTC Wildfire S it is a marvelc cdma phone from Metro PCS (USA service). I first used a method from YouTube, the video is called called HTC Wildfire S - Unlocking Boot loader and I did this like the 2nd day I had my Wildfire S and the first time I had an HTC so I had no idea about HTC DEV at the time, but anyway I did this method and I followed all the steps until the end when the program tells you to press any button to reboot, what I did was unplugged the phone, but I noticed I was not rooted, so I went to the boot loader and noticed it says *** LOCKED (OOW) *** at the top and it also says S-OFF ,so I tried almost all the root methods, and tried to use HTC DEV, and HTC DEV just tells me that it’s the wrong RUU program so I don’t know guys please help me. All I want to do is temp root, to remove bloatware, please help me. Thanks!

You don't need an ruu anymore. Just go through the unlocking process. Or go here for a noob friendly version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432199 and remember to thank theq86 for the nice tutorial.
To root after unlocking, just flash this zip at http://fs05n5.sendspace.com/dl/744efe1caa39712991ebfcb9bca78aa9/4f52b43f7cad3402/2l50jw/root.zip and u will be rooted
