Sprint TV on custom ROM - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I get an EVO and root it, then load an AOSP 2.2 ROM onto it (when it's made available), will I still be able to install and use Sprint TV?

Simple answer=yes. There's an apk for it just like any other program/app

kindle fire stable rom options?

A friend of mine has the original kindle fire which doesnt have built in vpn support out of the box (tun). He doesnt want to do the router trick and is interested in switching software. I have been toying about with various other android devices but not the kindle' so:
It seems cm doesnt support kindle?
If not what would be a good choice in a stable rom for a non tinkering guy?
Couldnt i just replace the kernel on the original software and get proper vpn support?
Any help much appreciated
Edit: forgot to ask - i read somewhere that switching software will result in no streaming from amazon. Is that correct? I am wondering how little i could get away with. My friend basically just wants to get vpn working and prrhaps also google plsy and netflix access etc he does not care for tweaking og newer rom features

Yup, you're right; streaming video from Amazon will be non-op if you flash another rom onto the Kindle. IMO, if your friend doesn't want to tweak and play with his Kindle all of the time, you're better off just rooting / dual booting. That way you can get the Google Play store on the Kindle and put whatever Android app you want on. The tutorial I used was from Liliputing, which gives you root, a recovery boot loader, and gives you the option to install the Google apps: http://liliputing.com/2012/05/how-to-root-a-kindle-fire-with-software-version-6-3-1.html
FYI the stock Kindle will allow you to install apps out of the Amazon store, so if you *really* don't want to fuss with it... Download the APK of the VPN solution you want to try, transfer it to your Kindle, and then install it. Easy peasy.
If you want to go all in on the latest / greatest Android O/S, I recommend twa_priv's CM10.1 rom; it's one of the most solid / feature full Jelly Bean 4.2 roms I've seen, and features Hashcode's very excellent kernal. It was one of the first that I tried and I always come back to it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2051331

[Q] Custom ROM update from previous Custom ROM

I currently have my Fire TV rooted with ClockworkMod Custom Recovery 6.0.5.1.4a, rboxes boot menu and Custom Pre-Rooted ROM 51.1.4.0_514006420updated installed.
I'm basically ready to upgrade to Custom Pre-Rooted ROM 51.1.4.1_514013920fixed but I wanted to know of any repercussions first.
Will I lose any of my non Amazon installed apps? For instance will the update affect my XBMC install at all? Or side loaded apps like Google play store or rbixes Fire TV mods, chrome, etc.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
I just want to save myself some time by getting all my apps ready if I will need to reinstall them.
Update went smoothly
I decided to just go ahead and do the update. EVerything went fine and all of my applications were there still.
The only thing I noticed was the menu customization item was not in settings anymore.
If you have the Xposed Framework sideloaded, you will have to launch it and then go to Framework and then Install. Afterwards everything appeared as normal.

spmc setup

hi all,
im in the process of setting up my new aftv (UK no root)
im working my way through the guides to figure out how to sideload appss.
my questions are, which version of apk file do i download rom spmc website. launcher or non launcher? will launcher allow me to load from start even though im not rooted?
also, how do i get google play store onto aftv, would that allow me to download apps such as bt sport or are they all a no go for non rooted devices. just trying to figure out how much i can do with this nice little box

1 Non launcher is your only choice without root
2 no google play store without root
If the apps that you want to sideload from google play is a free app, then it can be done without root using APK Downloader. But that doesn't mean that they will actually work properly on the Ftv.
Thankyou thats exactky the info i was after.
Can i just ask what everyones uses to sideload apps. The original guide was a bit over tge top and then noticed aftv utility and adb fire.
I will also need sonething to move over zip files to allow install of navi x

[Q] What's a debloated D700 rom?

I have an SPH-D700 with all that junkware in it, and it looks like I can't even load Amazon Fire TV remote on it. Is there anything I can do to make it more usable again?

Flash the latest CyanogenMod milestone: v11 M12?
Make sure you update the PRL and Profile prior to flashing if the phone is activated. You can use the FC09 multi-boot hacked factory OS to access the update functions as needed after flashing CM.

7.2.4.8 stock rom to 7.2.5.5

Hi, i have a new fire tv stick 4k max and it has 7.2.4.8 stock rom. After the device activation, it tried to upgrade to 7.2.8.5 and i stopped it via adb. I knew if i wouldn't stop it, i won't be able to use custom launcher (with home button) and debloating.
But, I bought this for hdr disabling function. This is a must for me. Device stock rom 7.2.4.8 doesn't have this function. I know version 7.2.5.5 has what i need: hdr disable function, custom launcher option, debloating and disable update via adb stuff etc.
So, i would like to know if there is a possible way to upgrade 7.2.4.8 stock rom to 7.2.5.5 ? Maybe with otg drive or some trick? I really need your help, Thanks...
