Nandroid backup - Desire General

Hi!
I have got Modaco R3 rom and wanna use new kernel with 1,2Ghz Snapdragon mode, but I don't sure about nandroid backup.
I know - is possible to make nandroid backup, but can I restore it from recovery, when I have been going to restore and replace custom kernel with default one?
Is it possible?
Thanks for reply

Yes, but wait for new recovery if you don't want to brick.

The problem is not nandroid, is the actual recovery.

[Q] Restore to stock with own made cwm backup

I just bought my Gio in the Netherlands. I've rooted it and installed cwm 5.0.2.7 rfs+ext4. I made a backup with cwm so I have a backup of the stock ROM.
3 hours after I bought it I converted my rfs partition to ext4 to install CM7.2 this went well and installed cwm 5.0.2.7 ext4 only (so i can make backups of ext-sd (EXT4)).
My question is if I wanted to go back to the stock ROM how would I go about this ? I am thinking I should do it like this.
I believe I can't restore the backup I made with cwm initially of my stock ROM since I converted the phone partition to ext4. I would need to flash the stock ROM (download it online) with ODIN.
Root it and install cwm 5.0.2.7 rfs+ext4 and restore the backup I made of my stock ROM with cwm. Or is this step pointless and is the backup I made exactly the same as the stock ROM you download online (meaning there are no specific dutch modifications) ?
Tbh i'm quite happy how my phone is working now, I just want to try this so i'm confident I can go back to way it was.
Regards,
oOze

You're right. Restoring a stock rom to a phone that hase ext4 filesystem partitions wont work. The Android OS wont start up. I did test it. Ik teste het
Installing a stock rom with Odin will make the internal system rfs again i did read.
I think installing cwm 5.0.2.7 rfs+ext4 even will make the file system rfs again? Not tested it. Would save 5 min. odin.
Happy testing
Ty for the quick replies.
I downloaded the ROM one that was suggested in the replies.
I had S5660XXKPE_S5660XXKPA_S5660XENKP1.rar I guess thats an older version.
And if you restore a stock rom via Odin, can you restore the CWM backup afterwards in order to regain your original settings and stuff ?
Or doesn't it work that way ?
Otherwise you could always do a full backup using Titanium of course...

I don't know I guess I will find out but if its the Dutch/Netherlands ROM you posted in the link I won't have to I guess.
I guess i'll have to use Titanium backup anyway since the backup I made with cwm is old already (or lose some data I don't have much I really want to keep now).

My 2.3.5 version is S5660XXKS2, which I got from the Android Advice tutorial, guess I don't have the newest either
Right my bad well anyway he said in a other thread its the newest dutch ROM
Code:
GT-S5660 S5660XXKS2 ## 2.3.5 2011 September S5660OXXKS2
Btw: My firmware seems newer, it's from September 2011. It's not official Kies though. It's on SamMobile Firmware Page.

I have no ideea which one is newer. U can stay on that no problem Mine is "good" in case of warranty issues and u must bring phone back to where u buyed it , because u can`t bring the phone with another firmware on it other then the one u have in your country Netherlands
Yeah, your right about the warranty, but I sim-unlocked my prepaid phone myself, so I guess I'm out of warranty anyway
Or is there an option to relock too ?

I have no ideea if u can lock it back . Maybe if u did a backup of /dev/stl5 ( EFS ) folder before u started to modify it for the unlock process and restore it, then it would be locked again, but i am not sure about this never did it
An appropriate CSC file followed by a factory reset should relock.

Backup your rom via recovery......copy the backup to the other phone......restore that backup from recovery......
I'm puzzled by the fact that you have 2 WFSs

If you have rooted WFS (both) then do it with Clockworkmod recovery, it backups complete system/apps/sd-ext including call logs, sms etc

edit. sorry I didnt read your post carefully
you can use rezo609's All-In-One Utility (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697985) to get stock recovery to your phone and I supose you will just make factory reset and will be on stock rom, but you should make Titanium Backup of your apps cause you will lose them

CWM for LG-D855?

Hi!
I just made up my mind to root my G3, but i can't seem to find CWM recovery for my phone!
Thx in advance!
no proper custom recoverys available yet.... you can get a CWM .apk recovery but it doesn't seem great, if you wanna just wipe and flash new rom then its fine but being a .apk recovery if you bork your phone its not gonna be much help to you.
Good news TWRP is on the horizon although currently unreleased

easyest way to update

Hi im not a total noob but I have never updated my phone as was looking for the simplest way to do so. I also have a few questions for when ive done so. Im currently on 4.4.2 rooted soff and have been advised to update so I can get a working kexec so I can install multirom properly.
will I need to reroot and unlock bootloader after?
Is there a risk of bricking.
thanks.

Sir if you were in rooted condition and gladly also in S-OFF, you're free to do anything , i mean rather than fallback to stock, just flash any custom rom you want but also flash it's correlated firmware.
Thank You

If I'm you, I rather update my device to 4.4.4 first as you're running the older firmware so all you can enjoy is simply CM based rom whereas the lastest GPE and sense based rom may not work properly since you're still using the older firmware.
Is it better for me to return to stock update everything and reroot rather than updateing Rom and firmware seperately

The easiest way is to get s off, then go superCID
You download the firmware zip, rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip. Put that on your extCSD and boot into hboot.
That's it. Your phone does the rest.
You can read more about it here.

Or the simplest and fool proof method. Grab your nandroid backup (found in general section) and restore the backup and flash your stock recovery. After which please do a factory reset and try to search for OTA. It'll appear

I understand you not wanting to mess your phone. It is always best not to proceed if you are unsure.
I'm not sure what carrier you are on, but for the normal international model, you will want to download this firmware to use in the method I explained.
Some American carriers have different firmware, so if you on an American carrier, let me know which one and I will provide you with the proper download to update to 4.4.4
The best thing about this method over an RUU is that you won't lose any data.

I have TWRP installed.
You can flash a sense rom from TWRP. There are many stock based roms that have few optimizations.
Try Viper, ICE, Leedroid, Sky Dragon, Bad Boyz (might not have international support).
There are also a few stock rooted roms around. It's very easy to flash from recovery. Just make sure you are on the most current Firmware for your device.
If you are looking to go stock with no extras, THIS might be what you are looking for (also elaborates on the write protection issue you are having)
Ooops. I didn't realize your device was the M8s. I think it's kind of silly it's in the same forum, but oh well. Sorry for the confusion.

ahhhhh. I see. Didn't realize this was the M8s they were talking about. I thought it was the M8 general. Thank you for pointing that out. I was wondering why it was so hard for them to find a stock ROM....
Found a fix guys. Will post here if someone has the same issue:
1. boot TWRP, try flashing recovery, get the error
2. go to mount in twrp and turn on mount system as read only, then try flash again
3. go back into mount, turn off mount system as read only, then tap system
4. start the restore, this fixed it for me
