Now I am very excited. can't wait to load 2.2 on my HTC Desire.

When 2.2 Froyo is released it will presumably go to the N1 first, then we'll have to wait for HTC and for carriers to get round to updating the Desire.
But with rooting is it possible to just put 2.2 straight on a Desire from the Nexus One?
As in, have the exact same 2.2 ROM as the N1. No modifications, nothing, just stock Froyo running on the Desire?
It will propbably take some tweaking but yes it will be possible.
with a rooted phone and after htc release the kernel source it will be possible
i didn't think htc release a 2.2 update soon :|
maby the dont release the kernel before they have made a 2.2 upgrade?
As usual we won't get a upgrade fron Htc for several months, but this community will react quickly as usual when the new kernel is released ;-)

Hi,
I've had my desire for a few weeks now and am loving it. Only problem is that when Google release an update, it takes HTC and then the mobile operators forever to release the update.
Is there a way to do the following:
- install a default android 2.2 ROM; so when an update is issued by Google I can get it...Ive heard the desire is the same as the Nexus one, so can I use the same generic nexus rom?
- install a generic htc rom so that when HTC update their software, i dont have to wait for the my operator to do so.
If i install the nexus rom, can i revert it back to the HTC rom later?
What do you guys recommend?
thanks in advance.
Word of advise for a new poster.
Use the Search button and or look through the threads before you post.
Trust me, it will keep you alive!
No you can not, untill HTC releases there version with Sense
The speed difference between Android 2.2 and Android 2.1 is really hard to notice barr a few apps. It really isn't worth the tradeoff for now, Sense UI is far better than stock Android regardless.
Hello,
i've got a question. i'm a new htc desire user for 2 weeks now. Saturday i updated my phone to froyo 2.2
But what is the difference between custom roms build on froyo and the original froyo update besides rooting???
i've got an unbranded phone in belgium.

I have a HTC Desire from eMobile in Ireland. We are due to get Android Ver 2.3 ( Gingerbread ) Shortly , will this be a big improvement on what I have ( Froyo 2.2) or should I root my Phone and Install another ROM.
Thanks in anticipation HollyJ9
Who knows. You can wait if you want but there will prob be a really long waiting time unless you flash the RUU that they release, if they release it.
Before doing anything, can you go to Settings>About phone>Software information and post up your current Software version?
Android Ver 2.2 Browser Version WebKit 3.1
There's not too much too gain really, the SenseUI overlay will cover up the most noticeable differences between Gingerbread and Froyo.
There's an improvement in the backend of Android with Gingerbread but it's probably nothing to drastic compared to Froyo.
Thank you very Much
