My beautiful Desire is set to normal alerting when an eMail or SMS arrives , but it never happens.
I checked all the sound settings and NADA... all seems to be in place but still no sound.
incoming call is working just fine.
Am I that dumb and I'm missing something ?!
Any Ideas ?!

So I am using Kavanas 6.1 ROM and have been for a few months with no problem.
I have been noticing that I am getting the "unread message alert" (kavana rom feature) 15 minutes after receiving my e-mail with out hearing my normal e-mail sound going off the moment I get it. This just started happening for no apparent reason. I havent installed any new apps or anything.
My MMS and SMS sounds are fine and they go off as normal. In "Settings" the e-mail alert sound is there and can be played. I shut my phone down and removed the battery for a few mins and retested it, still no alert sound when I receive my email. I then changed the e-mail alert sound to the same sound that I use for my SMS, retested, still no sound. Soft reset, still no sound. Shut down and removed battery for a few minutes, retested, still no sound.
I am stumped. I checked all my Settings for sounds and my profile and everything is normal. I even checked e-mail settings for some type of sounds options, even tho I was pretty sure there was none, and I was right, there is none.
I just dont get it... This ever happen to anyone else?

hi
just found your post on google when i searched for the same problem. my notification souns makes a noise when i select it, and my profile is set to normal, all sounds are turned up, but the phone wont make a noise when i get a call or text.
i installed leedroid this morning. music and vids play fine, just notifications.
any ideas?
thanks
While on a call, particularly speaker, is there no way to disable the keypress sound only during a call without doing it via the sound toggle or manually doing it in the settings? Doesn't seem to make any sense that certain sounds wouldn't automatically turn off so the caller wouldn't hear them. My previous HTC Hero did this automatically.

I have found this to be annoying as well. I have noticed that I have have my phone set on Vibrate (no sounds normally produced) and if I am on a call and an email or SMS comes in I get a notification sound. For some reason the sounds that are silenced when I am not on a call are produced when I am in a call.
I wish I knew of a solution to this issue.

Simply re-asign the sound for incoming SMS messages and it will work again. I think I have come across this bug myself too..
It happened to me, too. Sometimes the sound simply disappeared, or the ringtone volume went to zero.
Hi! I need some help...
Last night I put my Xperia M on DND mode and in the morning, when I disabled it, the phone is not ringing on incoming calls.
Although the phone does vibrate.
Everything else is working, WhatsApp Notifications, Facebook Notifications etc etc. Just the incoming calls.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
EDIT :
The problem has been solved!
There were some contacts which had a different ringtone assigned to them.
Once they were restored they had the same ringtones assigned to them but the system did not have the ringtones so all the phone did was send a buzz.
Deleted those contacts and saved them again.
Phone's chimey again!!!!
Hope this helps anyone else who had the same problem.
