HTC Weather App - Desire General

Is pretty useless isn't it?
It's telling me on Friday its going to rain.. is it going to rain on Friday?
Maybe? Maybe not?
Apparently its sunny right now, a quick glance out the window confirms this. Okay how about in a few hours?
Oh, there's no way of finding out.. maybe if I press on the sun... nope, oh 'More Details Online', okay...
enter postcode, check
hmm
what's this?
nothing, just badly formatted useless information (looks out window), it's still sunny
Please tell me someone's found a less useless weather app/widget for the phone, this truly sucks and I dont want to wait for it to rain outside so I can see an animation of a windscreenwiper

The weather app is pretty much just eye candy on the front page for me. I rarely take any notice of what it forecasts.
I have a copy of Weather Bug on my Desire and also tried Weather Channel. If all else fails I go to the BBC weather site.
The good news is, they are all crap!
I can see conflicting forecasts on all apps and in Britain we have to accept that when the sun appears we make the most of it... instantly ... because very soon it'll be peeing it down outside!

snow storm is the best weather widget I have come across. It takes feeds from yr.no One of the most accurate publicly available MET office data feeds.
It gives a detailed forecast of each day in 4 x 6hour windows. accurate and useful.

Just installed Snow Storm, will give it a few days to see if it's more accurate. I certainly love the skins/Themes available. Thanks for suggesting this.

Looking promising, thank you... bye HTC Weather Widget.

I like weather bug. It has a widget for the home screen as is more accurate than the htc one. Even shows satellite images.

Unfortunately I can't attach my screenshot as I can't post external links yet.
You can take a screenshot within ICS by pressing the volume down button and power button at the same time.

I'm still not decided about the Google search bar, so far I can ignore it but it does mean if you are going for a minimalist look , you can't

Favorite Weather App?

Found your favorite weather app? I found this one that I'm currently roadtesting along with Amazing Weather:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVNUwFcrmeM&feature=youtu.be
My favorite is Meteoservis.
(it's different weather - multiple editions Lite/Full - for weather and meteo fans)

Unfortunately, currently there is no English version and the service is working just in Czech a Slovak rep. But, according the author, there will be English (and maybe more languages) version available soon and the service will cover complete Europe.

I'm using WeatherLive by Hyperise.
Full-featured, with nice metro style live tiles, very accurate and fast it's a perfect choice for live weather app, even for $1.49
The new version 3.50 has brought many new features but still working fast and reliable.
I like WeatherEye by The Weather Network
Free and awesome Weather View
Weather View formerly : Vadret
Great weather images, Great live tile!
Weather Channel was the one I used for 9-10 months or so, then started using Accuweather which I really liked.
However, about a week ago I started using Weather View and I really like it.
Hoping they allow the ability to turn off the back/flipside of the live tile though, and add an easy one screen view of the next 5-10 days, but overall excellent.
Accuweather for the live tile which looks great and tells me what I need to know.
Amazing Weather is not bad
and has a nice live tile
Yes, I use Amazing Weather. The live tile displays current weather. I can justify between saving more battery and knowing current weather by choosing the interval to refresh the current weather.
Weather Master FTW

I second that. Shows all information I need on its double sided live tile which fits well into the whole metro design. My favorite weather app too. Closely followed by Amazing Weather.

I agree! WeatherLive is my favorite. Metro-styled, fast, and has a live tile.
I use Accuweather for the live tiles and Microsoft weather for the forecast. It's the fastest loading by far. I wish it would support live tiles
HTC app is good

I use Accuweather, and the HTC hub app.
nothing beats weather master, it shows the information in about 5-6 seconds and that is impressive, the other apps need more time to update the weather. weathermaster is not free but is certainly worth the money.
weather view and weather duck just wish weather duck got rid of the ads

Since I live in Sweden, I prefer to use Weather View (formerly known as Vädret)

it is, just downloaded.
but cannot download weather data for Warsaw Poland. City exists in list but cannot download conditions from weatherbug.
Best weather app so far !! thanks
The forecast shows wrong data, and there is no option to turn off flip tile.I prefer to always have the current cindition shown, for forecast i open the app.
Also, loading times could be improved (~8 sec is now)
Also, those huge abnoxious notificiations upon opening the app are just too much in the face and serve no purpose really.
Loooks pretty awesome though. If it was as fast as the weather app, i'd switch.
Great app
Love the live tile support
Keep it up

going to give this a shot. Any hits on the battery for using the live tile ?

It's depends how many live tiles you have. Commonly there's not battery drain.
The API of Weatherbug not stability. Sometime, it can't get data from WeatherBug. So sad!
How to make two tiles like in the screenshoot?

[Q] Astronomy clock

I had an idea that I would like to try making, but unfortunately I'm not overly familiar with zooper yet.
I have noticed that there is a variable for the moon's phase in degrees, and this gave me a bit of inspiration.
What I would like to do is have a static image of the sun, and to the right the earth that rotates every 24 hours, and an image of the moon that rotates around the earth relative to it's current position.
Is this possible, and is it difficult to do?
Possible and difficult. Just try.

The large moon is a moon phase and the earth has the weather conditions over it.

To clarify, do you want the Earth to rotate around the Sun, with the moon rotating around the Earth? If so, I'm not sure this is possible. If it were possible, it would require you to use advanced parameters on the moon that determine not only its rotational location around the Earth, but also the X/Y location of the arc which must dynamically move along the same rotation as the Earth.
If you are want the Earth to have a fixed position with a moon that rotates around it, this is much more doable, but I would ask you why you want to create such an image?
Technically, the moon orbits the Earth every 27 days or so. It goes through all of its phases in roughly 29 days. It is visible in the sky for around 13-15 hours per day, depending on when you are looking.
Just trying to get an idea as to why you have settled on 24 hours as the rotation time, as it doesn't necessarily correspond to the moon's actual process.
Ciao
Very best Clock:good:
That's great :good:

Q: Can you identify certain 3rd party widget for Weather/Clock compatible with Oreo?

I'm in the process of customizing a new-to-me HTC 10 and I'm looking for a specific Weather/Clock widget that I've been using on my HTC One M8 running Marshmallow and Sense 7. I couldn't find any indication of the author, so I assumed it was HTC. Here's a screenshot of my One M8 home screen:

When browsing the widgets on my HTC 10, there are a couple of weather/clock widgets but none that look like the one above. I really like the layout, the selected data, and the partial transparency. Is there a web page somewhere that shows thumbnails of all the widgets in each version of Sense and their precise release number? If this wasn't created in the Oreo version of Sense (Home or 9?), is it at least forward compatible?
EDIT: Yes, thanks to gustav30, found out the widget is not HTC. DevExpert.Net created it.
Here are some other widget panels that accompany this widget, which I find very useful:
5-Day Forecast, Hourly Forecast, Moon Phase

That's not an HTC weather clock widget. What app does it open when you click on it? Then just download that app to your 10 and apply the widget.

Ah... thank you. :good: I wasn't finding any info about the widget, until I used the left menu navigation and found "About"... And it's a Weather & Clock Widget by DevExpert.NET.
