Hi!
Today I woke up to a non working desire
It simply won't boot correctly, the only thing it shows is the HTC boot screen and it's stuck with this screen. Any ideas what's wrong or what I can do about this besides sending it in?
PS: the desire is not rooted.
thanks!
Try holding down the back button when you power on, then try factory reset from the menu (select using volume up n down keys and power button) it could be an app that's crashing and stopping boot.
Be warned you are likely to loose everything on your phone!

Thanks for your advice!
I did as you told but chose no when asked to delete user data. Since then it works again.
Seems strange but I'm happy that the desire is working again and no data is lost/deleted!

Search for the answer?
The first thing you should do is more searching... any possible fixes for your problem are out there somewhere on the internet or this forum.
As far as I can gather your phone is hung at the boot screen. You should be able to fix this from the sound of the problem:
Have you tried to reflash an RUU ? That might be your best option.
Also to get the existing ROM you have on it working try booting to recovery (hold power + volume down) and doing a factory reset (Clear Data)
Give more details for your software and hardware. And what you did before this issue appears.

I met this issue, too
I recorded the behavior in this video:
https: picasaweb.google.com /lh/photo/6GykUopey3nu9Z70enPM3EpG5uDDYPubKeZF8WhOv90?feat=directlink
... Please assemble the url above manually as the system don't let me post it now
The center button has something wrong as I must keep one finger pressing on it to let the system work as normal. The worst thing is that I'm in a foreign country and won't get back for several months...
Is there any way to disable the center button? I've rooted my phone but haven't tried to use custom rom.
I got a funny result...
After trying to use the program from unrevoked in ubuntu, the buggy button returned to normal... Hope it won't happen again...
I'll keep monitor it in the following days......
It's still happening...
I've sent a message to HTC and they asked me to reset the phone as it may caused by software. But it looked like a hardware issue...
@dexter93
Oh yes there is an safe mode!! On boot screen, htc logo, hold vol down till phone vibrates, then release and your desire is in safemode, without any of your installed apps!!

safe mode
there is a safe mode, hold down menu key when you switch phone on and the phone will start up in safe mode. the phone will display safe mode in the left lower corner of the screen.
To get out of safe mode simply reboot your phone.... If that doesn't work I think your menu button is sticking - try booting while tapping menu a few times...
Btw, does anyone know what for is this safemode? I was googeling but did not find an answer

In safe mode, only some applications could be executed. You could remove some buggy apps in safe mode.
HTC had replied that I must send the phone back to Taiwan for checking, although they have local branch here in Japan. I'm considering to buy some tools and try to fix it by myself...... In this point, Apple does provide better service than HTC...from a sad HTC customer...
I've tried to open it (following the articles found in internet) and do some cleaning. It's still happening...XD
Oh yes
I Try To Hold tarackball+home+power button
I finally get out of safe mode
but menu button, volume, home, and search not working
because I can install applications and do not reduce my HTC desire performance
Sorry if my engglish langue is bad...
Well it is an Hardware issue. I plugged mine to debug and found that some keys are not responding.
Now the hardware keypad works in a very different way, it uses permutation and combination to figure out which key is pressed. Sometimes because of a faulty joint (due to moisture or anything), 2 or more keys may be dysfunctional.
In my case HTC Desire minus Volume, track ball & the track button keys was not working. I thought the fault was with the the volume key, but when I disconnected keyboard cable from main board and booted, my Volume keys worked just fine and it was not going to safe mode, perfect boot.
So there I knew the problem was with my keyboard. I tried cleaning it and unplugged tracker cable too but still it goes to safe mode. Finally I some how stumbled upon this idea of keeping my Volume plus and minus pressed together and boot. It worked.
Remember the combination would differ case to case, it depends upon what part is faulty.
+ & - Vol and Power till complete boot.

You save me, had exactly the same problem and saw your post and did the same thing and voila no safe mode. Thank you!!!
Hi guys, my HTC G2 used to work perfectly fine. Then I started experiencing freezing where I would have to remove the battery. Phone is unlocked, rooted with S-off. Then the klast time it froze, i removed the battery and now the phone will not go past the bootscreen. While I am on the clockwork recovery screen, anything I select goes to the clockwork logo and stays there until I remove the battery. It doesn't allow me to factory reset or load a new rom. Starting up the phone goes to the MyTouch logo and boots over and over. Could this be a hardware issue? I don't know what to do! HEEEELPPP!!!!
Mytouch? Please boot into hboot, select system info and post it. Need to know what you have going on before we can help.

If you are in recovery and go to "select" something, then get just the logo, you are pressing the power button..wrong button. Hit the track pad.
Don't know why you are seeing a mytouch logo seeing this isn't a mytouch phone(unless you flashed the port)
U can do a reset from hboot. Pull battery, hold down volume(down) and power until you get there. Then scroll to factory rest and this time hit the power button

are you getting E: Can't mount cache errors in recovery?
Cause if you are you probably have the broken emmc chip.
My phone was doing something very similiar too yours (freezing completely) and had this error.

So, I have rooted Desire that worked perfectly for the past 4 months. Not a single problem, until tonight. First it starts powering up screen on it's own while locked which I try to fix by reseting. When it booted up it started vibrating like mad. Turns out that volume down button is now stuck. Try to fix it by reseting, again. Now it boots up to safe mode. After some googleing it seems that this sort of thing happens some times so I figure I'll try factory reset and see how that goes. This doesn't help at all, but rather f*** it up completely.
Now it keeps booting in recovery mode but none of my buttons are responsive. It just loads the menu and no matter what I do it won't select any of the options. I've tried searching google and this forum for help but I'm coming up short. ANY advice is welcome, please help.
Put it into bootloader (volume down and power) then flash a ruu

It seems to be that some of your hardware keys are stuck.

Yes, it does seem that the hardware keys are stuck but it's realy weird since I can turn on the phone with power button but I can't use it to select anything on the menu.

Hy everyone,
I don't know how it happened but when I power up my htc desire hd, it appears htc image and remains blocked and I can't do nothing. Only solution for shutting down is to reject the battery.
How I can resolve this ? To reinstall Android platform ? I don't know.
Thanks. Please help.
Tried fastboot?

when Your Phone is shut down just press power button and volume down together that should take u to the bootloader so go to recovery by pressing down and press power button then wipe system and cache and install a new rom from your sd card hope that helped you
Hi, first off I don't really know what all the terms mean , but my phone is rooted, and has a ROM? installed, I'm not 100% sure on what it is as I've forgotten, but I think it is Cyanogenmod?
The past few weeks my phone has been restarting randomly and freezing every now and again. This morning when I tried to unlock it the touchscreen wasn't responding, and this had happened before. I took the battery out and tried to turn it back on. I see HTC splash screen pop up, and that's all I get. I've tried turning it on whilst plugged in charging, and still nothing. It's all fully charged. I've tried turning it on whilst holding the volume down button and it vibrates 3 times and still nothing.
Thanks for any help!
can you still go to bootloader then recovery?
Hold the power button and volume up to get into bootloader, then select recovery. Try to clear cache and davik cache then restart. If its wont work u should freshly reinstall.
I was in your case when using Jellytime R11...my phone started and freezed at boot screen. No matter how manytimes I removed the battery n restarted the phone just stood still. All I can do is go to recovery...

I've just tried that, and unfortunately it didn't work. When I do that the phone vibrates 3 times, and the orange LED flashes, and has been flashing for around 5 minutes now. The screen also doesn't turn on at any point.
Thanks for the help!
U press Volume Up or Down?

Thanks, I've looked around and can't find a tutorial on how to do that on a Desire HD. Do you know of one, or a good generic tutorial I could follow?
Thanks again.
Take the Sim SDCard Out as well as battery. Wait a few minutes then only replace the battery back and see if it fully boots If it does then power down the phone pull the battery wait again a few minutes then boot with the VOL DOWN key and then factory reset it.
With this done its one more battery pull and boot again it should be fine after that.

Unfortunately that didn't work. I'm not sure if this is of any help, but when booting normally, almost immediately after the white HTC splash screen, the screen flashes blue for half a second.
Thanks for the help!
No clue how I've done it, but I've been pressing button for the last 10 minutes and managed to get in to what I believe is the bootloader? It's a white screen with Fastboot, Recovery, Factory Reset etc and the options. What shall I do from here?
I wiped the cache, and booted and then it froze saying "Android is upgrading, starting apps"
This step takes a while. But if you could get into the bootloader which is Fastboot Recovery and Factory reset you could of choose Factory Reset to see if that fixed the issue.
yup, since you can now access your bootloader, from the recovery just flash your rom, remember to do full wipe first, data, cache and dalvik cache...
