nandroid - Desire General

Hi people
Im trying to do a nandroid backup before I try a custom ROM.
I used the windows recovery batch file to get into the recovery menu and selected nandroid + ext backup. It went and for a few mins started backing up but then said run nandroid-mobile.sh from adb shell error. I looked in my memory stick and I still got 4 GB free and my nandroid folder is 232mb big. Does this mean it worked?
Also does it backup apps too?

Reinstall Nandroid?

I realized recently that my nandroid backups were not completing correctly (see pic). I noticed this because I have done numerous nandroid backups and there is only one backup showing in the nandroid folder. It always says "backup complete" but above that it looks like it might not be completing correctly? Is there a way to reinstall nandroid backup?
this is normal...
I've experienced problems with backups in Amon Ra as well. I've had a lot more success backing up via Rom Manager through Clockwork. Just an FYI for the future.
tyrnight, what is normal? and how come when I just ran this Nand backup, I have no new backups in the nandroid folder?
MSmith1, I thought Clockwork isnt a complete backup like Nandroid?

*sigh*
clockwork is a recovery just like amon is a recovery -
THEY BOTH have nandroid backup feature... its just as easy if not easier in clockwork and yes it is a complete nandroid backup

Clockwork & Nandroid are two different things. Amon RA & Clockwork are two different recoveries, & the nandroid backups can be performed by both of them.
I'm personally using Amon RA's recovery because i heard Clockwork doesn't wipe data as it's supposed to.
In the image you posted you are using clockworkmod backup/recovery. Therefore your back up images are in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup, not nandroid.

exactly...
OK I think I got it now. I thought Nandroid backed up differently than the Clockwork or Amon tools. I didnt realize the Clockwork (which I have been using) is a COMPLETE back up of the phone. I thought it was only backing up the ROM and not the data and apps, etc.
So since I have Clockwork/Amon through ROM Manager I can just use that to run my complete backups instead of going into Nandroid through recovery mode?
You can only use Clockwork to backup via ROM Manager. If you use Amon RA you'll have to manually boot into Recovery & backup from there.
Clockwork is not working properly. It is not backing up sdcard's and is not wiping all data. I recommend just using nand and quickboot however the new clockwork flashed over nand had to reinstall Nand Recovery via adb etc..
I'm new to this all myself but I think the reason it won't back up the SD card is because it would have to backup the entire card and where would it put the file? I'm guessing your SD card would have to be large enough and partitioned for it to write the backup to. That is total speculation of course...
First of all, according to the pic, your sdcard is pretty critically low on space so a nand backup probably won't complete fully. Second, the message about android.secure is a directory reference that occurs if you have transferred your apps to your sdcard. Since it can't find the directory, I'm assuming you aren't using apps2sd. The second message about the sd-ext directory only applies if you've actually created a secondary partition on your sdcard. So just because it skips those two areas doesn't mean that the remainder of your data has not been backed up.

help restoring nandroid backup..phone out of order(resolved)

hello. so i did a nandroid backup of my rooted el29 gingerbread + cwm epic 4g phone a week ago. it created a folder on my external sd card (sdcard/external sd/sdc2012-06-2012 folder) ive also continously made titanium backups of the apps + sys data. so i let a friend uninstall a system app(id bloatware) just to prove it could be uninstalled but dont like that i get error messages now sometimes when accessing email, etc. i tried a titanium backup but it hangs for 5min. now im trying a nandroid restore in cwm v5.0.2.7. where is a good guide for this? i went to restore but it keeps saying "error opening directory. No files found." i dunno what directory its searching but clearly not the correct one as i verified almost 700MB of data on external sd card. ive wiped data, cache so it only boots to "samsung logo screen." i also have a backup nandroid on my server so how to i get it to actually restore?
06-12-2012 update: crisis averted. i remember doing advanced backup w/ cwm recovery originally so i just did regular backup. it created a directory cwm/backup/new folder. i put the files from original advanced backup over to correct location and restore did it!! this is just like the acronis images i do for my pc's. what a wonderful thing!!

[Q] Backing up Z1 Compact from computer?

Hey guys,
The screen on my Z1 Compact just died. Only the screen, so everything else still works - still boots up normally, still rings when I call it, still shows up on my computer drives when I connect it via USB, and can boot into fastboot. It's got CM11 and CWM on it.
My question is, is there anyway for me to perform something like a nandroid backup of my current system from my computer without having to do anything from the phone, so that when I get a new one back from warranty, I can have it exactly as it was?
Thanks!
Boot to CWM and connect to phone with adb. You can
use the builtin adb backup function (will not backup everything)
backup partitions manually like a nandroid backup with dd / tar
make a flashable zip and then do backup_rom("path for backup") (cwm specific command, this should do a nandroid backup)
run nandroid backup in adb shell (I recommend to try this first)

Wow thanks! I managed to run nandroid backup via adb. I can't seem to find the backup files though - any idea where they would have been saved?
Check /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup or /storage/sdcard0/clockworkmod/backup

Can't restore full adb backup

Hello!
I backed up all my apps and games that I download (stock rom) with a full adb backup usins Wugfresh's toolkit. After that I flashed cataclysm rom and wanted to restore my backup.
So I run adb restore *file location.ab* and it brings up the restore menu in my device. I press *restore my data" and it starts the process, but after 2-3 minutes it closes and says Backup ended with left only about 10 apps restored. Which is far away from the 122 apps in the backup. (the backup file is 1.3 GB).
I really don't know or have any idea on what can be the problem as this the first time I use adb backup command, and the backup doesn't seem to be corrupted.
Helps would be appreciated!
Are you sure that you have the space needed for the backup ?

Best way to do a full backup (and restore it)?

Hi, on my previous phones I used TWRP to create full backups of my phone. My A2 lite is rooted with Magisk and I decided to keep the stock recovery to simplify OTA updates (also there is no official TWRP build available supporting encryption). The phone is already setup completely and I don't want to start all over again so formatting is not an option. Still I want to be able to create a full backup in case something goes wrong or the phone gets damaged. Is there a way to do this or do I have to continue with SD and TB backups? Thanks in advance.
nice q >>>waiting for an answer ???
I used Titanium Backup before. But now I'm using Migrate for backups.
My backup is TB and rsync of /sdcard to a server at home (automated overnight).
I never bothered getting anything else setup. I try not to brick my devices
I did have to restore a few times when I first got the phone, until I figures out how to recover from Magisk/xposed errors without factory reset.
i prefer Titanium Backup method with batch file to backup folders i need from phone memory to PC. of course i backup Titanium Backup folder too,
minimal adb&fastboot package is installed (portable) so i can perform below backup:
backup.bat
these example lines inside
adb pull /storage/emulated/0/DCIM
adb pull /storage/emulated/0/Download
adb pull /storage/emulated/0/Pictures
...
