Exchange Meeting Requests - Desire General

I am not sure if this is Desire specific but lets see.
Syncing with corporate Exchange and all is good.
But
When somebody sends me a meeting request, whilst I can open it and even accept or decline the invitation, I can't actually view the details of the meeting request itself.
I can see the contents of the email but the actual date, time, location etc are not visible.
Now I think this is a limitation of the mail client itself so the first question is if there is an alternate mail client out there? Is the one on the Desire a HTC one or the default Android one and if the former, how do I bring up the latter?
At this stage a work around is as good as a fix.
Thanks

Exchange ActiveSync, syncing sub-folders - HTC's response

I wanted to be able to sync sub-folders for my work email as well as send emails when I don't have a connection - they should be sent when they do.
I have seen others on here comment that they have similar desires (pun intended).
I wrote the following to HTC
I am using the Mail app on my Desire to sync with my companies Exchange server.
I have a need to sync sub-folders of my Inbox in the Mail app. I cannot see a way to make this possible.
Additionally, when composing mail without an Internet connection and pressing Send, I am simply told I cannot do so. I would expect the mail to be stored in my outbox until a connection is available.
Can you please comment on any of this with advise on how to fix.

And I got my response:
There are limitations to the Exchange support as you say and the best way to get round these at the moment is to use a third party software such as Touchdown or RoadSynch as these have full Exchange Active synch support including tasks and notes. We are always working on improving our devices and the experience of our customers so keep an eye out for possibles updates to your Desire. Best regards.

I am quite disappointed with HTC. I have not used the standard ActiveSync stuff in Android 2.1. Can anyone comment as to whether it performs better in regard to my particular needs?
sorry replied to wrong post....

HTC Desire's mail client

I just picked up my Desire a couple days ago and all-in-all I'm pretty pleased with it! ..I just had some questions regarding the pre-installed mail client for the desire that some of you may be able to answer. (F.Y.I. the mail app is using my Gmail account by default)
1. Is there a way for the mail client to automatically sort mails once its received? For example, if I were to receive an email from my co-worker, the app would automatically sort that email to the "Work" Folder without me having to do it manually.
2. It seems when you open up the mail client, each mail is displayed by the sender's email address, not the sender's actual name. Even though I have the email address registered to their actual name in my phonebook, it still displays the emails by address and mail subject in small print below it. (On the other hand, the sender's name is displayed under the Messages App...But that only works for people communicating via SMS..)
Does anyone know how to fix these two issues. It would really make my life a little easier.
Big thanks in advanced!
No one knows how to fix this issue?
Hm, i don't have these issues. My desire is showing names just fine, even if they are not in my contact list...
Sorting problem...hm...i've done that with vip option in a mail app. Just add some contacts in vip section and all mail recieved from them will go in that section...

If you are using gmail, or some mail client that supports filtering. You could apply filters to specific people. That filter will automatically apply label to every mail from that contact (will put every mail from that contact(s) to specific folder)...

Responding to meeting invites?

Not sure if this is android or the email app problem. the sgs does not allow me to respond to meeting invites. I have to save to calendar manually. Anyone knows?
I have the same problem. Could not find a way to send an invite for an appointment, either. The email client needs some polishing ;-)
Here is my wishlist
1. Notification about incoming mails even if they are sorted into a subfolder (Server-side rules with my Exchange Server)
2. Improvement in how the folders are displayed. I've got subfolders of subfolders. All that is not presented very well. Maybe have separated views for folders and emails.
3. The invites issue solved as mentioned above.
4. I would like to have unread messages to be better distinguished from already read mails.
Maybe froyo is bringing all that to us
Have a good night!
Hu guys,
i do have the same issue here. No possibility to accept meeting request.
Works fine on HTC Desire ;(
I guess this is a general problem with the build in email client of the sgs. I read in other forums that will be solved by froyo.
In the meantime i am using Touchdown Exchange Client. This client looks great the push mail function works properly - the only issue is the low performance.

I believe XWJM1 comes with that features, but the same feature not available at XWJM5.
Hey guys I am not sure if this will help you but I too had the same problem I downloaded the app from the market called ICS-Bot and it reads the attachment coming in. I am not sure what email account you are using but what I did was have any emails going to my corporate or/pop3 account from my work and I set a rule up that will forward any email with the subject titled Meeting in it and have it forwarded to my gmail account and once it arrives it will be read as an .ics file where you can preview it and set it up on your calendar. The downside is that you cannot edit or send a response back but you can inout the event onto your calendar and set reminders, I know it is not what we want but at least you have the event in your calendar, hope this helps.

[Q] Attaching a contact to a calendar appointment

Does anyone know if it's possible to attach a contact to an appointment in the calendar?
The way the phone operates with all a persons phone calls, texts, emails & facebook updates appearing together on the contact details screen it makes sense that you should also be able to see any appointments you have with that person as well.
Ideally I would want to be able to create an appointment from the contact card or add a contact to an appointment on the calendar screen.
This would be really usefull out on the road, so when your reminder pops up it would also show you the persons phone number & address, so no need to go rooting around to find the address you need to go to.
Anyone come across a way of doing that or an app/rom to try?
If you are using Sense, you can add attendees to an appointment when making a new one. It doesn't show up on their contact card, though. It does send them an e-mail reminding of the event or a cancellation if you delete it.
Thanks Bob,
Yes did know about that but if you use that then first it sends out emails which I don't want it to do but also the list of contacts from which you can choose to add to an appointment is reduced to only those contacts with an email address. Most of my customers are non businessy low tech types so I don't have email address's for the vast majority of them & therefore can't add them.

HTC One X email clinet

Hey
Just converted from Iphone. Today I setup my HTC one X and have few questions. I like the HTC One X stock email client but what I fail to understand that why when I search mails it only search emails which currently resides in my HTC One X phone and doesn't give me option to search on server, an option which I had in my Iphone. This lack of search feature is literally annoying me as sometime I had to search emails which are very old and search on server feature comes handy at occasions.
Note: I have setup sync download type: by number of mails and the number is setup to 40 emails.
I did try K9 mail but it doesn't search either on server. Am I doing some mistake. Is there any way to sort this issue?
Best wishes,
Z
I'm interested too... Would be like to know how to search email on server and how to look up to Exchange Global Address (or email address in Public folder)

Hello, make sure you sync "all folders" and set the current folder to "all folders" and the search will surely be more accurate.
But, if it doesn't work why don't you use the dedicated app ? Gmail or Hotmail for example ...
The app on the HOX is just a "simple" synced app, in my opinion, not a true mail app like you had on your iphone which was surely more like a "web mail" so that it was always connected to the server. The HTC ( android ? ) mail app is more a way to be alert on new mails than a "full content" mail app, like thunderbird or other apps for PCs.
You surely don't want your 5000+ mails on your phone or even old joined files which takes lots of room.
Another option is to import other mails in your gmail and use the gmail app.
I tried on my gmail and it looks like it searches on all mails.
Try'n'see
Thanks DanRZ for your feedback. I get your point about HOX email client as simply sync application. The whole idea of using HOX client was to have one stop integrated experience for emails rather than accessing different email accounts through different application. You probably are right in pointing out that dedicated email app like gmail app on HOX will resolve the problem but what about mails residing on other private networks like emails from my work or university. I will still not be able to search old emails from these accounts and my work and university certainly has no dedicated email app that could do that either.
Your point of importing them to gmail sounds promising but I already have thousands of emails on my gmail account and I don't want to clutter it more by importing it through gmail. Plus due to reason of confidentiality, I am not allowed to import my work emails to gmail account
In short, I am stuck. Is there any paid well professional application that could offer similar features as Iphone email client use to offer?
One more question: When HOX client or gmail app store emails on the phone? Are they stored on the 2 gb application space or it is stored on 25 gb space available on the phone?
Best wishes,
Z
The mail app DOES search the server. The what it does NOT do is search the body of the messages.. Don't know why but that's just how HTC did it.
Unfortunately there really isn't a 3rd party client that does proper search AND can sync more than one activesync account...

Thanks ewok666 for your response. When searching I clicked 'option' (top right hand side) and selected sender, to and subject fields and then gave the keyword that was the person's name whose email I was searching, I also tried giving full email address as well. But it only returned results that were residing in my phone (i.e. 40 messages that were synced) and there was no option to further search on server as one see it in Iphone. If your point is right that it does search on the server them am I doing mistake, in this case could you please guide me. I would be really thankful to you.
Best wishes,
Z

Sorry this has taken a while...are you trying to search an Exchange server? I don't know what other servers (if any) support server search. For me (using Exchange 2007 and 2010), as soon as I enter the search string I get some results and on the bottom I get "Search Server".

got the "search server" option too when connected to lotus traveler with default HOX email client.
Thanks for a reply. I have one email setup on exchange server and I found the search on server option as you mentioned but other accounts like my university email and gmail which uses IMAP protocol don't perform search on server or give that option, though they used to give it when I was using Iphone.

I have been using HTC phones since I switched from Windows Mobile 6 to Android. Whenever I needed to get any mail older than 2 weeks, I would have to go to the browser and search. I am not a fan of using the dedicated apps because the mail client seems like a one-stop-shop for aggregating all emails. I was surprised when I recently found that the iPhone email client does search the server.
I am rooted and decided to try a vanilla version of Android for sometime. I noticed that the stock Android email client does search the server for emails not on the phone. Let me see if I can find a way for you to download the email client...

Unfortunately, it looks like you can't use Google's email client independently. Sorry
