3 UK Data Roaming Charge? - Desire General

Hi. Just got my unbranded desire on 3 UK contract. I saw data roaming in settings. I take it that this allows me to use mobile internet when I'm out of 3's signal. Is there any extra charge for using this? I have 'unlimited' internet on my contract. Thanks

3 roams onto Orange 2G when their 3G network is unavailable. There's no charge for this for either voice or data, as it is just part of an agreement 3 have with Orange as 3 do not have a 2G network.
If you go abroad though, using data whilst roaming will cost you an awful lot of money unless your network has special packages in place (e.g. Vodafone and T-Mobile).
Regards,
Dave

Ah ok thanks for that Dave.

You shouldn't need an unlock code for the T-Mobile GS2..

Yeah I figured I guess my Sim went bad :/

Did ever get your sgs2 to work on simple mobile? I'm really hating Tmobile right now, cos they keep changing my payment due dates. Before it was the 30th, then 29th, then 25th, then 21st, and now they changed it again to 19th....
Because of this, i'm really planning on switching to simple Mobile. But, how is it working for you? HSPA+ Data speeds ok? is it capped?
Well simple mobile uses tmo as a network backbone.. Just an fyi.

I've been on simple 2 months now yeah I got it working my sim went bad I had it in my pocket and I guess I did something to it got replacement and everything works well all u have to.do is change the apn but speeds are the same as if.on T-Mobile that's on the 60 dollar plan not sure if 40 one willl work just as fast if it.does I'm paying 20 bucks more for nothing
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
Awesome...so whatever speeds i'm getting right now with tmobile i should be getting as well with Simple.
Another question, does Simple throttle you if you use too much data? I tried to find an answer to their website but couldn't find anything.
Simple is far more restrictive of their data usage and you get no roaming.
With Monthly4G you get voice/text roaming but no data roaming. higher data caps too. I would go with Monthly4G
Yeah they do but I'm not so.much of a data hog I use less than 2 gigs for a daily use phone its nice I use wifi when ever possible, they throttle after 2gigs , and for 2
Months I haven't had an issue for the price and no contract I like it

I think your right. Simple mobile is just reselling the T-Mobile $60 2gig plan by calling it an unlimited plan. This is technically true, as they don't ever cut off your data, they just throttle it.

Yeah it's 60 straight up, I don't mind it so far good I get good reception and good speed I get service where some of my friends using att don't and I've never dropped a call,

i had simple mobile on my galaxy s and the internet was so slow, it uses same T-Mobile phones and network but there is a big difference in internet speeds, i wouldn't recommend simple mobile. I live in atlanta , GA.
Tmo Galaxy S2
My speeds are good maybe its just the area ur at the? What plan did u have the 40 dollar one has slower internet speeds

does unlimited data loophole still work?

on verizon ATM and wanting to get back on att - looking to see if the loop hole still working on att since i have unlimited data on verizon atm. i was told i need an iphone 2g and need to activate the via itunes and pick unlimited data /200 txt and then call nd upgrade unlimited data to the 4g unlimited data - can anyone point me in the correct direction or let me know if it STILL works? thanks
From what I have read that no longer works.
I got all the way to finding an old 2g several months ago. Reading at that time the loophole had been closed. If it has reopened I may look into an un activated sim and give it a try.

Try T-Mobile I pay $20 for unlimited data. In 3 days used up a almost 2gb. I rarely worry about switching to Wi-Fi unless i am in a ****y area for reception

When do they begin to throttle your data speeds? AT&T is 5GB (thank god today started a new billing cycle)..
I read on Slashdot that att doesn't track port 53 (dns) traffic.. To cheat you could in theory just get a tiered plan and do all Web traffic through a port 53 proxy....

I roamed 97.4 GB last month

Recently I have been getting an extremely unreliable 4g connection and my 3g connection isn't much better. I called Sprint several times but they offered me no resolution except to "feel free to roam until we fix the towers in your area". So I turned off 4g and set my phone to automatically allow roaming. This month I had to download nearly 80 GB of images off of a cloud service because my subscription was about to expire. Right now my only internet connection is through my phone, so I tethered it to my PC in order to download the files.
It turns out I was roaming the entire time and I have roamed around 97.4 GB in my most recent billing cycle. Do you think they are going to terminate my contract? Or do you think I will get off with a warning?

I was actually getting unusually fast 3g speeds. I think I was roaming on Verizon's network and there is a tower very close to me.
If you were in Europe your carrier would charge you a mere $237,000 dollars for that!

posting this here VIA the tether? yes
Good luck to you!
I say this because extreme roaming data usage will grab attention and they will sort through IP's, just letting you know that as it just happened to my cousin. He hit 78G in data roaming and they found out he was using his phone for PC gaming while on vacation. And yep he is paying for it right now.
How is that even possible? I've been told if over half of your usage is roaming you will be disconnected. Even though Sprint claims roaming is unlimited.

it's in terms and conditions of the contact. They hold the right for excessive roaming.
And if they determine that you're tethering without paying, they'll claim fraud.
Not that I care, just the lil lady works for sprint and sees it frequently.

They might have told you it was okay to roam but if you don't pay for tethering you could be charged for excessive data usage and tethering.

I thought they weren't allowed to annoy you about using tethering apps without paying for it?
Wasn't there a court case on this a while ago?
that case was for blocking apps. doesn't mean you don't still have to adhere to TOS and pay for tethering.
Sent from my SPH-D710
Wait, the worst that can happen is they terminate my contract right? What is this talk of having to pay for it?
They could charge you for tethering plus all the data you used.

Doubt it. The Sprint website says you have unlimited roaming 3g so the amount roaming should be irrelevant. Don't admit to tethering.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
You don't get what I am saying... If you do not pay for tethering, and your use this much data, they could charge you for the data used.
I don't see how you think it is okay to use that amount of data tethering to another device when you do not pay for tethering on your account.

Oh no they'll cancel you contract when you don't pay that big bill. But yes you will have to pay for services rendered which is tethering and data used beyond the 5gigs given for tethering.
But like I said earlier carriers are not stupid and they will come after you and they know places lime this and could link your statement here as proof bit they really won't need that once they drop the IP bomb that will tell them what devices where used via your phone. Trust me they can tell but no system.is bullet proof so they cannot block it as some apps pull info via desktop browsers calls and a blanket block would kill those. So they just tag all the over the top users, especially when roaming is envolved.

Prepaid services T-mobile vs Straighttalk or ATT

Hello everyone, tommorow morning i leave on a roadtrip to USA. ill be gone for 21 days mostly will be driving on i5 highway and will stay 5 nights in VEGAS and 6 nights in LA. I have the note 2 T889 Same as t-mobile version but from Mobilicity and its already unlocked. what would be a good prepaid service for me to use? unlimited calling , unlimited text and atleast 2gb of good speed data. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
Trust me 2gb is more than enough for a month. I have unlimited 4g from T-Mobile and I never exceeded 2gb. Hope I helped good luck

So your saying I should go with tmobile prepaid?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
I go over 2gb because I use my note 2 as a hotspot while im driving with my kids so that they can use their ipods to stream netflix or go on youtube. Im on the $30 plan with 5gb and 100 min. The most I've used so far is about 4.3gb of data and my min are always under 70 min. I do more texting than talk so im ok with this plan at this price.

Are you prepaid?

When you travel you going to use lots more data on cellular than you normally do. 2gb of data not enough.

I live out in the sticks (Oklahoma), but in my experience T-Mobile has terrible coverage along even the major interstates. I might suggest ATT if you're going to be driving quite a bit.
I don't think you can get an ATT Straight talk card anymore?

Get either AT&T or an MVNO who uses AT&T's network
Hello,
My advice to you since you are travelling is to either use AT&T, AT&T Go Phone, an MVNO (H20, Net 10 {cousin of straight talk}) Now a few months ago I would have told you without a doubt to get straight talk but like inconceeeivable brought up, Straight Talk no longer sells sim cards that work on AT&T's network directly to the public. Now there are people who sell them on ebay but because they are rare now some people are charging a ton of money now (between 30 and 50 dollars per SIM when it would never go above 15 directly from the company itself) so I would buy from another mvno. If you search "mvno" on Wikipedia you'll find that there are plenty of different MVNO's that use AT&T's (& T-Mobile) network so if you search hard enough you'll have plenty of choices.
T-Mobile is improving faster now and is being aggressive but they have ways to go before they reach reliability status with AT&T.
Sooner than later Net 10 AT&T sims will be no longer (Net 10, straightalk, simplemobile, & tracfone are all owned by the same corporation) so I suggest you go get one. Their service is 50 a month. There is also Red Pocket & H20 but both of these options will run you 60 a month for unlimited talk, text, & web browsing (no streaming of movies and music)
I hope I was able to help.
I have the t mobile prepaid plan with the $30 100min/unlimited everything else plan. I love the pricing and this is truly a plan that fits my needs but damn I wish the service was better. They have always been great with me from a customer service perspective. Net10 on the other hand. ...

HSDPA NOT HSPA RADIO question.

I'm currently in the UK and my brothers Note 1 GTN 7000 receives HSDPA but my Note 900T only connects to 2G GPRS in his apartment.
Isn't the N900T compatible with O2 Sim card on network on HSDPA?
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
I go to the UK every month and I'm mostly on 3g on T-Mo network or EE which is still t-mo (slow). If you are unlock go to a EE place and get a 10 pound prepaid card (for 100 minutes and 1g data in 4G, double that for 15 pounds).
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Here's some info from t-mo in the states. Double check if you qualify by dialing the 800 number. If not your charges will be outrageous.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
I figured it out. The N900T doesn't receive hsdpa on 900mhz hence on O2 UK network I can only access their 2100Mhz frequency for HSDPA.
Also correct to previous poster. I would have got better access if I had used EE pay as you go sim card.

Unfortunately for me by the time I turned on my phone when I landed to read the text message about rates I got hit for almost $80 for using 4.08meg of data!
