Sure....what exact files are you downloading? You should be able to tell when you're downloading them that the extension is ".cab"...as long as that's the case, just put the .cab file on your phone and click it to run from there.

in other words. Don't unpack the "cab" files on your computer or phone... just transfer the entire "cab" package to your sd card or phone. Use file explorer (on your phone) to navigate where you have saved the cab files. Select the cab file and the installation will begin
aaand this too just for the noobness haha.. if you've d/l'd a .cab to your pc and have winrar installed on it.. winrar will show the .cab's icon as that little set of books like a .rar file.. they're both archives, but the .cab doesn't need unpacking.. it's like a windows mobile version of a .exe for the pc.. just saying, i did that too at 1st.. a loong time ago.. haha
just copy and paste to your phone storage and you are all set

copy the cab to the ppc ,install it,
go to programs there will be a new folder called acessories, open it tap the usbswith icon and select serial ,restart your pda and you will be able to sync now.
no more interfering with my network
wow 22 downloads and no repys ,it must be good.

I cannot seem to be able to load that file. I can only Explore on my 8125. I can extract the .cab file to my desktop and I can copy the unextracted .cab file to the 8125 (or the extracted files) but I cannot install the program.
Any suggestions?
Copy the .cab file to your device and run it there. I don't think you need to extract it first before copying it over.
Better still here is an explanation of what you would be doing and why.

Im pretty new here and just got my BA not tooo long ago...I used to be a trreo user now im hooked on my BA.
I see alot of software that comes in a form of a cab file...does anyone know how I can load that software on my BA? thanks alot!
hey mate and welcome!
if you put the cab file in your pc folder; you'll see that the description is "zip file"....that's because it's the only format microsoft recognizes...in a way its also true as the cab file is a compiled program ready for installation. what you do is DON'T unzip the file in your pc; rather cut/copy and paste it directly in your ba (via activesync or in your sd card). put it in a folder that's easy to find; say "my documents...personal" (or you can make your own folder to put in cab files). use your ba's file explorer and go to the folder...from there double click (via stylus) on the cab file and it will automatically install itself. btw, if you copied the cab file in your sd card you can also execute the installation there....no need to paste it in your my documents area.
if you're using wm2005; upon execution the unit will ask you if you want to install it in the sd card or internal memory....that's really up to you depending on the size of the file you're installing.
hope that helps

thanks alot Robson.
Ive always looked past cab file programs b/c i couldnt install it. I hope this thread helps other newbies too. I searched and couldnt find an answer.
is there anyway that can install cab files direct from pc to ppc?
sorry for the late response; was in china for a week.
unfortunately, no. i don't think there's a way to install cab files via pc. if you do unzip a cab file; you'll notice that the files are something like:
0000124
009890
or something like that....can be as many as 20 lines of code...but scanning through the entire zip will not give you any .exe files which can be executed via pc. if you have a card reader installed on your laptop, simply copy and paste the cab file on your sd and from there install via your ppc
hope that helps

ok... i been searching for hours n hours for 3 days now on how to open the CHome_240x320.cpr. i found it in the windows directory and when i select it it says:
there is no app associated with "CHome_240x320". Run the app 1st and then open this file inside the app.
im confused... HELP!!! lol
If I'm not mistaken you can copy the .cpr to your computer and open the file from within notepad.

In the Rose ROM, the CHome_240x320.cpr is not used. Its the HTCSlidingPanel_320x240.cpr and SlidingPanel_320x240.cpr. Edit those to your liking.
cpr.
Depending what rom you're using, ( I don't know anything about the rose rom yet) you need to copy the cpr from the windows directory to a different folder, like to your documents folder, and then you can copy it to your computer and open it with notepad, you can't see the windows folder from your pc when you're browsing your phone, so that's why you have to copy it to a different folder first . This is how I did my cprs.
You should check this thread out, it has all you need to know about it.

First always keep an original copy of your cpr file, when you copy it to your pc , before you modd it , make a copy, so if you mess it up you can delete the bad one from the phone and still be able to go back and drop the original back if you need to.
Do i need to have it zipped when i place it back into my phone???

No. use your windows explorer on your pc after syncing with it. open your mobile device and take the cpr file , drag it and drop it back in your phone, like I said before, in reverse, after is on your phone's documents, folder you have to copy it to the windows directory and reboot.
Read the link i gave you the instructions are there including CHomeRefresh.. Which will stop you having to reboot phone after you replace the .cpr in your Windows Directory on phone.

I am new user of Window mobile and recently got Xperia. I have a question that how to install these cab files. I mean to say for some software i have exe/ cab files which i run and progrm are installed. But i downloaded alot of applications from this website and when i unzip them i can only found files with extension .001 / .002 / .003 , so how they are installed?
thanks Jade
For getting the original file you must rejoin them as they're parts of it. The .001, 002, 00x parts can be joined back with this (HJSplit 2.4)free software.
Joy!

Don't extract .cab files, but just copy them to your pda and execute (find them with explorer and tap) from there. Then it will ask you where to install, to the device or storage card.
BTW, have you seen/searched for this? It might help you .....

using active sync i hit explore, dragged it all over to a folder.. on the phone i went to files explorer. hit _setup and opera loads up a blank white screen?
You unzipped the cab file. Transfer the cab file to your device and then select the cab file using the file manager on your device.
that was what was contained in the rar file i extracted..

You downloaded the "rar" file to your PC? Did the file actually have an .rar extension or was it just identified as a compressed file that winrar can open? Could it have been a .cab file, but perhaps you have "Hide extensions of known file types" enabled on your PC so it doesn't show as a .cab file?
Cab files look like compressed files (because they are) but they're not supposed to be extracted. It should be copied to your phone and then opened/run there to install.
I think that maybe what the OP did is installed winrar on the phone, and let it get set as the default handler for .cab files.
labelthief, if that's the case and you have winrar or another unzipping app on your phone, you'll either have to uninstall it or figure out how to get it to give up it's association with .cab files.
EDIT: after re-reading the first post 3-4 times, it seems possible that you just extracted the cab's contents on your pc first, then copied all those files to the phone, but I can't tell for sure. If that's the case, just do what MCBrian said and copy the single .cab file to your phone and click on it to run it from there.

Yeah, I assumed that's what he did -- he said he "dragged it all over to a folder on the phone", which means that he extracted it (creating "it all") on the PC first.
That's why I think it's not a good idea to have "Hide extensions for known file types" enabled on a PC. If you can see that a file ends in .cab or .exe then there's no confusion about what to do with it...even if winrar thinks it should handle it.

Agreed and agreed. My first read took that as "dragged it on over..." so...maybe more coffee on the weekends before posting, hmmm?
You're absolutely right about the file extensions too...I always set them to be be visible on ANY PC I work on, or even have to troubleshoot for others
