Finally we have a version of Gmail for Mobile that works for both "Google Apps" and the Excalibur... almost.
It launches and logs in correctly, but it doesn't quite fit the screen. It looks like it's formatting for a portrait screen instead of landscape, therefore the bottom 25% of the screen is cut off, making it very difficult to navigate.
I'm using Kavana's latest ROM with Esmertec Jbed Build 20071119.3.1. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I dont use the Gmail Java app because the Dash handles my Gmail quite nicely. Google does not officially support the Gmail application for Windows Mobile devices but I tried the the Generic Advanced MIDP2 version, it seems to work fine for me.
That version is a little better, the menus are on the screen now, but it still cuts off the bottom of the screen.
I aLso would like a solution to this, i currently use the built in email client, but then I get all my mail from all my labels and my spam folder all mixed together.

Odd, I run the same (Kavana's latest ROM with Esmertec Jbed Build 20071119.3.1) and it works flawlessly. Did you uninstall the previous version first? and make sure the old JAD file is not still on your device and try again. If not, I dont know, it should work if the enviroments are the same.

Very strange. I uninstalled the previous version, deleted all references to gmail from the device, rebooted, then installed the new one. Still have trouble with the bottom of the screen getting cut off.

Just shows you your inbox the way you see it via gmail, can view all folders, does cut a little bit off bottom but generally thats an advert from peeps email provider
I imagine it takes less data than pop3 connect?

I got it off 4PDA, do a search for "Esmertec Jeodek 20070312-116861.2.1" and it should pop right up. There is also a 3D Java Engine that works pretty cool as well (I believe they are in the same archive).
Screen Size issue
Just found this helpful information on the google mobile blog:
http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2008/10/introducing-gmail-for-mobile-20.html
Hi all,
I've found a temporary but working solution to the full screen issue in gmail mobile 2.0
You need to install the application from a modified .jad file; three lines in the original jad has to be changed in the following way
* UseNativeTextButtons: false
* ReverseSoftkeys: true
* UseNativeCommands: false
Then install from the jad and voila', it works full screen!
The original jad file can be downloaded from:
http://m.google.com/app/gmail.jad?dc=gorganic&ver=v2.0.6
Hope it helped.
That's fantastic. Thanks!
If anyone has trouble with the link to the jad file (404 error), try this one:
http://www.gmail.com/app/gmail.jad?make=Generic&model=Advanced MIDP2&ver=v2.0.6
Hi,
I am using NFSFAN's V15 ROM and I also use a gmail java app that accesses my gmail account. Let me first start out by saying that the reason I use the java gmail app is because I cannot find a .cab file installation version of it and I need to preserve email message threading. I know most people use the default mail client but I sometimes get 20 or more responses to one email message and it creates a huge inbox mess, hence this is only one of the main reasons why I use the gmail java app and not the default mail client. Now that thats out of the way, here is my problem:
When I am in the java gmail app and reviewing a message with a website hyperlink in it, if I click on the hyperlink, I immediately get a Yes/No pop up dialog box asking me if its okay to open that website. If you select yes or no the dialog box reappears immediately and the same loop starts ever until I am forced to take the battery out and restart the phone. Can anyone fix this? I wonder if IE Mobile 6 is what is causing the problem, it works fine on my stock ROM that has the older version of IE Mobile but it will not work on the WM6.5 ROM that uses IE Mobile 6. I really want to point it to use Opera Mobile instead of IE Mobile 6 but it does not give me that option. Yes, I have Opera Mobile set as my default browser and yes the "Set Opera as default browser" option within Opera Mobile is checked on but this java program just will not open Opera and I am very puzzled by this problem. I cannot find anyone talking about this issue on any other threads for the Vogue, here at XDA, so I decided to create this thread. Does anyone know how to fix this?
PS - Here is a download link to the java gmail app if anyone wants to take a crack at this:
http://gmail.com/app/v2.0.6/L1/gmail-g.jar
Thanks

Perform actions in 1st post of this thread. Works like a charm! (Thanks btong1978! ;.) )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548770
Only thing now, though, I can't figure out why web links that I click on in email messages don't open using Opera Mobile...still opens using Iexplorer Can anyone help??? Thanks!
PS - I love that btong1978's fixes allows EVERYTHING in the "Internet" TouchFlo tab to open using Opera...sweeeet ;.)
Oh - Also read through this thread [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550647&highlight=opera+mobile+default+web+browser], Contentryder. Seems to have some Cabs that may fix your issue (I say "may" b/c I've not tried it myself, but it all makes sense and seems to have put all of btong1978's fixes into a Cab file that takes care of everything for you w/o you having to get your hands dirty w/ reg edits ;.)
Happy tweaking!

Anyone else notice if you click on a link that takes you to facebook, it opens IE and directs to touch.facebook.com, which at least on my hd7, doesn't work right.
I have to switch it to m.facebook.com
This shows up mainly when I respond to facebook friend requests that show up in my email.
Apparently, according to a dev I read who worked on Mobile Safari and android browsers, web apps developed for those two such as touch.facebook.com won't work in Mobile IE for now. I'm not sure why though, sorry man

that's ok. Just wished that if I click a facebook link, IE wouldn't redirect to touch.facebook.com if it doesn't work.

Same thing happens on Android (the redirection). If it's from an eMail (in the Email app or on the email site), then it's going to punt you to the website.
If you see a friend request in you email, it's not hard to open the Facebook app and accept it. Do you not get notifications for these?
HTML5 is coming to WP7's IE in an update next year.

I can just change the url once IE opens as well. I just wasn't sure if this was a wp7 issue, IE issue, phone issue.
Thanks for the clarification.
So are these "web apps" like facebook and gmail built with HTML5? Newb question, but i dont know much about that kinda stuff
I really hope Microsoft makes some improvements to IE with the January/February update.

Hello
I wanted to have one Whatsapp account on two devices. In this Forum someone explains that its possible by using two nodded whatsapp APK's and backup one to the other phone. This did not work out for me and I heard that whatsapp might block the account.
So I thought it might be possible getting the whatsapp web client down on my Tablet and convert it to some kind of app (something like chrome on a desktop to app function). I tried using go native.io which is a very nice site but there user agent is mobile so you are redirected to the os download site for whatsapp and not the client. I tried changing the agent but it didn't work.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve my problem? Is there maybe a different site like gonative which has the option for desktop agent?
Edit: I found the reason why the agent is not working. Chrome always deletes my code changes.
Thanks in advance.
