After asking this question elsewhere I have been advised to seek expert advice on your forum.
I have a couple of Dell Axim x50v units. One is running WM2003SE A04 and the other is running A05. Although they work OK, I have been thinking of buying something new that will run WM6. I was then advised to seek help within this forum.
I have never upgraded a x50v before, so really need help from the ground up. I understand I can use WM6 on this device, but how well will it run compared to the existing o/s?
Would you guys recommend an upgrade, or would I be better selling and buying something newer? I really like the Dell Axim x50v and have had it over four years. Advice or recommendations for a suitable WM6 ROM woud be very welcome.
Please bear in mind I am a complete novice regarding upgrading an Axim so any help with the software I need and any pitfalls I am likely to fall into, I would appreciate immensely.
Also, Is the x50v capable of running WM6 successfully and at reasonable speed?
Thanks again, Tony
I could really use some help on this one guys. I have been reading this thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=593539 and I still don't know where to start. It all seems so confusing and being new, I dont want to brick the Axim.
Do I need to buy WM 5.0 from Dell before I can use any of the roms listed in the above thread?
I will check back later.
Thanks
Tony

Hey everyone, i got a question. Is there a Crossbow ROM out there for a Dell Axim X5? I've been looking around the net, and i've found a few mentions of it, but nothing concret, so i thought'd i'd ask people on this forum since you guess seem to know a lot more then a lot of the other sites.
And if there is, could anyone point me in the right direction as to how where to get it, and howto install it? If there is any modifications needed.
Thanks a lot,
Folic

That's Good news for all Axim X51v owners! His A17 ROM is already super fast! His wm6 Rom might travel at light speed! (Lol) One thing I can say about FootBall, he is a man of his word.!
Ok, but you guys didn't actually answer his question.
I too have an Axim X5 and was wondering if WM6 is available for it or even if it would run it.
I know that wm6 allows axim X50s to use SD cards larger than 2gigs.
No, the X5 doesn't have the capicity to support WM5, much less WM6.
Thank you for that. now I can stop looking. I wish there was a way for my X5 to read HDSD's. I have a 16 giger that I would love to use for all my music (and some guitar lesson videos)in the X5. guess I'll buy a X50v and upgrade that to WM6. saw them on E-Bay, refurbished for $60.00.
Hi. I follow the threads about wm6 for Dell Axim x51v, and I'm looking forward to seeing a ROM for x51 (notv), but unfortuately nobody seems to be interested Is it possible to have a wm6 rom for x51? Thanks.
I just think it's possible, but the matter is whether there's someone interested in the porting project. The same used-to-be-hopeless thing was the situation of the users using BA. Now they're happy with the new WM6, arent they?
PS: Keep on feeding your hope man, the day is not so long to come.
Hey guys i'm also interested in WM6 using an AXIM X51 (without the 'v')
I would be really greatful to the guy, who would port a WM6 ROM for it.
X51
I too have been hoping and waiting in vain for a WM6 rom for the X51. Since I saw a few released for the X51v I have been on pins and needles assuming that a X51 rom would be not far behind. If I could do it myself, I would, but I can't, so I wait. :\
While you're at it, you could make a WM6 rom for X50(mid) or a better WM5 rom. I would be able to do it if I only knew what tools were needed.
i think it's a good idea
I would also like to have the wm6 version for x51 (not v).
I think wm5 is too poor
Small bump , any update on installing wm 6 on DELL X51 ????
is it even possible?
Will this ever come? ;-;
Lenny tried to cook up something, but I haven't looked into it very much.

has there been any updates... is it worth the trouble keeping this (trade item) x51 (traded a lifeflash)
Is this dead, Will it ever happen...
Should have got the damn v...
Ash
Add me to the list of people who would love to be able to get a version of this ROM for the X51.
Hi,
are there any news on this? A quick answer like "will not ever come" or "working on it" would be nice folks!
Someone got a new dell axim x51..not v rom?
here
you find a WM6 romfrom Lenny
Hey folks, great forum. I have searched the forum to no avail
Could someone please help me with the following PDA - it's a cotel Windows W1 PDA running WM5, probably unheard of by most. I bought it in Dubai recently. Is there anyway I can upgrade it to WM6, if so which rom & software should I use. All i know is its running on OMAP730/ARM926T chip. I have no idea of its ipl/spl version or if its G3 or G4, cannot find anything out about it. The following link might give you a little more insight, its the very top left one.

I really hope someone can help me out here, thank you much.
**BUMP**
No idea's anyone??
I'd like to know as well. The only thing I was able to figure out is that it runs on a custom WM5 for PocketPC ROM.

good bet to assume no one has played with this phone yet? Yes?
I recently purchased an AT&T 8525 and am interested in upgrading it a bit.
I don't really want to do anything extravagant with it (yet). I was planning on using Battery Status, HTC Home, and possibly HHC to start with. If all goes well, I may continue to pimp out my 8525 a bit more after.
I guess my question is more of a matter of opinion, but here it goes:
I was wondering if you guys thought it would be more wise to keep WM5 and start using these files (maybe because they are more stable w/ this OS, or because there is a wider selection, I'm not sure)...
OR
Maybe I should just go ahead and upgrade to WM6 and work with the more recent versions of the programs I was looking for on my phone.
I apologize in advance for my noobness!
Read, read and read.
Once you have read, and you know what you are doing, then go straight for WM6. WM5 is slow.

agovinoveritas is right.
Moreover,
if you are really new to Windows Mobile devices,
I suggest you to stay with the WM5 and study / feel it first.
Then you may find WM6 how tasty it is. ^_^
enjoy~~ ^_^
I bought my imate jasjam in October 2006 and used WM5 for about 8 months then I got bored of it. May be it is better to play with WM5 first and when you are going for the upgrade. Try to get the original ROM handy with you. But remember upgrading need some wise thinking and reading. So no more noobness while doing so.

that is what everybody has done before upgrading.
Radio Rom is major factor on upgrading or downgrading but apart all HARD-SPL. Read about it or better use Mr.Vanx guide at

Hi, I'm a newbie here, I fancied upgrading my phone from win mobile 5 to 6, then found 6.5 was current. Then read the advert at the top of the page saying upgrade to version 7, wow! I've been looking at the posts and I have to say the directions look intimidating. Can someone point me to any links that would help me? Also, which version is the safest/easiest/most stable to try? Can I do it any easier through Microsoft?
I must admit I admire you all out there, especially when something goes wrong and you find a solution, I think I might throw the phone out of the pram ....:_)
