Hi, I have been searching around but I have not been able to find if it is possible to have 2 numbers for one sim contact. Is it possible? Right now I have 2 different numbers for a person saved two times with the same name appearing twice in my contacts.

I'm not sure if it's only me, or everyone.
I have a Rogers s621 running on the brightpoint rom. If you start typing a contacts name from the homescreen and it starts with a letter that's within the keypad (w,e,r,s,d,f,x,c,v); and the 2nd letter is a(#).
The shortcut asks you if you want to dial that entry number from your contacts.
FOR EXAMPLE
You want to call your friend Darryl. From the homescreen you punch in D(5), A(#). Your phone will then ask you if you want to call the 5th entry in your phonebook and you have to say NO before you can continue typing darryl's name.
Maybe it's only me I don't know.

My stock with a few apps loaded Rogers 6 rom does not have that behavior.
strange, i guess it's either a bug or one of the many 3rd party apps that's controlling it.
the HTC ROM doesn't have this shortcut.
It's so dumb.
I have the new HTC rom and it does this. It's very annoying.
solution !
when this happens, it means that you have field number 5 of your sim card filled with darel's phone number.
so by field number on the sim car you can dial :
"1#" for the first number
"2#" for the second number
"3#" for the third
"49#" for the 49th number......
....
what you have to do is to copy the sim directory to the phone then you erase the sim contact list.
the you'll be able to dial darel number easyly.
Last solution : learn the begining of darel phone number, start hiting the number, you'll find the name.
sorry for my english.

I never thought of that. Guess I'm gonna erase the sim. Thanks again.
You could also try not erasing the sim, but copying contacts to the phone, then disabling the sim phonebook in settings>phone>call options. This way the sim is still backed up with all your numbers if the problem is resolved without erasing.

Tried that before i posted this thread, didn't work.
Deleted the sim contacts and everything's good now.
The weirdest thing is that this shortcut isn't even documented anywhere in the original htc manuals.
I think this is very popular issue, but I don't find any solution.
I use my SIM to store all phone numbers.
I will be very very very happy to use SIM as default destination of all new contacts.
No whats happening:
I save number in phone.
Next I copy this number in to SIM with SIM manager
Next I delete the number from phone memory
3-4 minutes for one contact and many potential mistakes....
Thank you.
Anyone?
I can't believe there is no solution
I tried a while ago for a friend of mine to et that working and didn't have any luck...
I think most people aren't going to use the SIM to store contacts as you can't do any of the advanced stuff with sim contacts(custom ringtones, attaching a pic, etc.)
i had the same problem and i finally chose to copy my sim contacts to my phone's memory and delete everything from sim... the only good thing (in my opinion) is the hability to add pictures to contacts..
My freind just bought a Galaxy nexus, he had a nokia phone and I told him to sync his contact with google to get them on his GN. everything thing went well and all of his contacts now shows in pepoles app in the phone.
when he recives a call the name will be displayed in the caller ID and in the miss call notification bar but not in the call log. all incoming, outgoing and miss call in the call log don't show names only numbers but in the contact list it shows all of his contacts. any ideas? suggesions?
I have the same problem even though my previous phone was Nexus One!
Solution
I found a work around the problem that I've read somewhere but i can't remember. Basically add to your contact's phone number the international key +1, +2, +44 etc. It's long an painful but it can't be helped .

Close but no cigar...
I live in Argentina and all my previous android phones used to work fine (caller id contact name was displayed) even if you used the international dialing prefix for Argentina mobile phones + 54 9 XXXXXXXXXX.
After getting my GN i found that contact names would not be recognized unless i take the "9" out of each number, which is inconvenient if you travel a lot overseas and you need to call back.
Is there any way to set the maximum digits that Android matches to a contact phone number ??
I was having this exact same problem and changing the code to (+44) (UK) did not work. I have searched long and hard as to why this is happening and I don't know. It is not due to the fact is not at +44 because sometimes the contact name will display and other times it won't. Is no-one else having this issue? It happens for the Messaging too! Gets quite annoying after a bit
I have same problem
I got an Irish Galaxy Nexus a couple of weeks ago (my 1st smartphone and 1st Android).
All my numbers are saved in international format, ie. southern Ireland numbers like 0861234567 are stored as +353861234567 and UK numbers like 07845123456 are stored as +447845123456.
The problem arises when someone rings me and their number shows in non international format - it doesn't show the persons name from contacts.
This was never a problem with any phone I had previously - any ideas?
Please see http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=24026. There's no solutions yet, though.

That doesn't work for me, I always have saved my numbers in international format but this just seems to be a bug with how the nexus matches numbers with contacts.
All previous phones (non smartphones) I have owned have not had problems like this, I think all they used to do was.match the last 7 digits of the number against the contacts.
Hello. Is it possible to use a disposable number with two lines for whatsapp so that we are able to make a whatsapp account from that number? If no then is there any other way to do the same? I want to have one additional number but don't want to have two sim cards. I had already tried doing the same but I get a message that the whatsapp is not the original one, also the playstore is not the original one, etc. Is there any solution for that? Does that mean that I cannot use 2lines with whatsapp plus? Too many questions. Sorry I am new to this. .

Instead of a SIM card you can get a Virtual Phone Number. Calls made to the Virtual Phone Number will ring to your existing phone, and you can return calls through a system so that number shows up on CallerID. Many services also offer SMS. I've used Tossable Digits in the past, you can get a number for $3.49/month. If you email their support, they can enable SMS for you (it's not public yet). Google their name for details.

Hi,
Obviously am new to this forum and new to dual sim phones.
I have got one question:
I see that we can have all calls be either on one default sim or the phone ask you to choose. My question is whether we can somewhere assign a number to one sim, i.e. each time calling this number it will use this sim.
If anyone knows how this can be done please send me the info.
I have tried to look from the sim card manager and into contact for the different options but can't find it.
Thanks
