Hi,
I hope you guys can help me out here. I have a HTC P3300. ROM 3.7.707.1.WWE.
Yesterday, I took out my battery to transfer some files into my memory card (as per normal, but without pushing the off button for a few seconds) - and after I replaced my battery and turned on the device, my SMS for the past 6 hours or so has disappeared!
I tried the following but to no avail:
1. Push the "OFF" button and hold, until the warning message appears.
2. Taking out the battery and putting it back
3. No other idea what to do
Even after I delete some SMS and empty the trash can, and reset my device, the deleted SMS still seems to appear. Looks like the phone is loading up a snapshot of the SMS on a certain time...
Is there any expert who can give advice here? Deeply appreciate
Oh... and I'm not sure if this could be the reason:
a) If my SMS is full or ot?
b) Is there a virus?
c) Anything else?
Everything else seems to work - Contacts, Appointment....
Please... if there's anyone who could give some feedback...
the deleted sms that "reappears" can not be removed
yup, i faced this problem b4 and i decided that that SMS is corrupted
each time u delete it, it will reappear again
i already have thread on this just a few posts above/below
Thanks JMC. I tried that, and it appears that once we delete the message from the deleted folers, then the SMS will somehow be gone after we reset.
I really don't know what is the cost. Some say it's a bug, some say it's because I didn't turn off the device properly when I took off the battery.
There's still no solution....

Hi,
I'm new here, and have just upgraded my girlfriends MDA Vario II to Schap's 3.54 ROM, and everything appears to be working fine, apart from text messaging - which seems a bit strange. I was wondering if this is normal behaviour in WM6, and if not what might I be doing wrong?
I used PIM backup to backup the text messages she had before reflashing, and when I restore - the messages don't appear back in the SMS/MMS inbox. Also, if I send a text message to her, the message goes from the inbox when you do a soft reset on the phone (push the reset button on the bottom). Emails that are in the inbox disappear too.
Is there a setting to stop this, or have I cocked something up to cause this?
Thanks in advance! I'd never have realised you could do so much with these phones without this place...
Regards,
Brian.
I have the same over here. Now I copy my important SMS to my SIM card. Then I don't have this problem!
It's a workaround and is OK for me.......
If you close your messages program completely, instead of minimising it, your messages will be saved after a soft reset.
We've tried that, and they still seem to get deleted.
If you turn the phone off (press and hold the small power key on the side), then the messages are of course saved, and it seems as though they are then saved when you soft reset, but if you soft reset without doing this they get deleted..
By the sounds of this, it's a bit of a known bug then?
Brian.
reset button should only be used for two situations: hard reset or when the device hangs. Any other situation it's best to use the power button.
how fix this bug???
Its not a bug. When you use the power button (also a SR) the device is able to save settings, etc (including sms) before shutting down. Like pressing "shut down" on a PC.
The bottom button SR is an instant kill, you might say. Should only be used, really, if the phone freezes. Its like holding down the power button on your PC if it freezes. Therefore it will not save settings.
Just fyi, this hold true with regedits as well.

Sometimes PIM backup does not restore all the messages, you might have to restore again to make it work right...
I am not sure about disappearing...although, when the msg is unread and i happened to soft reset my phone, messages have disappeared before...i dont know any fix for that one..

Hey Brian. These guys are right. It's not a bug or issue at all. The phone just needs time to put stuff into memory that survives the soft reset. Using the power button to turn off and on should solve this.
use another rom
hi brian,
i had the same issue with some of the roms of schaps. the first two roms i used from schaps where working great with the messages. and they didn't get lost. with newer roms the problem occured like you described it. i also did some research, but it was a problem of the rom. you can wait really long (hours) before the sms is really saved.
so one of the first checks i run after installing a new rom is when the message itself is saved or do i loose messages after soft reset. my current rom "FuN_KeY_s_ROM_WWE_1.5.2" does not have this issue.
my suggestions: try another rom, maybe a newer from schaps!

Looks to me like you did not close the MESSAGING application properly! Only tabbing on the 'X' hides the application. Check in your settings if X BUTTON CLOSE FEATURE is enabled!
I encountered this behaviour of loosing messages, when I stored the
cemail.vol on my SDcard. Since I moved cemail.vol to standard location
(main memory, root) didn't have this problem once.
Just my 2 cents.

Just a guess here but how long were you waiting after recieveing the texts / emails etc before you did a Soft reset?
i find using the POWER BUTTON solves this problem .. not the reset button, seems to work for me hope that helps.
Its not JUST WM6, it happens on WM5 too and its to do with the message being stored in RAM rather than Memory (i beleive)
Hey all,
Have my phone on Vibrate and when I receive a Google mail the phone isn't vibrating and the LED isn't flashing. As far as I can see all options in Google mail and the phone settings suggest I should be getting both.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Russ
Hmmmmm a reboot seems to have fixed this, lets hope it doesn't get into a habit of it
didn't work for me, rebooted, but still no vibrate on new SMS, light flashing, tho
Apologize for cross-posting, but I'm getting frustrated with this. A reboot didn't help me either.
Everything was working before, but just today I noticed it refused to vibrate on email notifications. WinMo used to have a similar annoying bug, but it was related to replies. This bug is affecting all messaging notifications, i.e. Exchange, pop3, Gmail and SMS.
I've gone in to general settings and put vibrate on. I've gone into each account and turned vibrate on. I've gone into Messaging (SMS) and turned vibrate on. Vibrate is basically turned on throughout the system, but it's still not vibrating except for phone calls.
I've uninstalled all of the last apps I had installed to no avail.
Anyone with any advice?
Last resort could be hard reset

Not really keen on hard reseting, but will try that as a last resort.
I ended up fixing it with a hard reset.
First time around, I chose to reinstall the settings from the auto backup that was on the SD card, but I experienced the same behaviour.
Redid the hard reset and opted for cancel when asked about reinstalling the backup settings and all seems well so far.
Suspect it was a dodgy app or could have been that running the battery down flips a software switch to turn off vibrations, but the switch has a hard time flipping back. Will wait and see how long I can keep the vibrating notifications, but now I know how to solve it.
On another note, talk about a waste with that auto backup function. I mean, to really be useful you should be able to choose when it backs up and which backup you want to reinstall. Having it constantly backup settings like it does is bound to backup whatever went wrong in the first place. Oh well.
Vibration on Notifications (such as email) is no longer working. It definately used to and i have checked the email settings and it is definately set to vibrate but it has just stopped working. it vibrates fine for incoming calls so the vibration definately works
Has this happened to anyone else and anyone know what might be up with it?
Thanks
First: Have you rebooted the phone?
I've also had this issue. Unfortunately, I also did what is suggested somewhere: Hard-Reset. It's not THE solution, but a solution nevertheless.
yeah ive done many reboots but still the same. I really really dont wanna do a hard reset as ive got all my apps and themes set up just how i want them
I feel for you guys cause I was there yesterday. It was probably my post you read about hard reseting.
Just to reiterate, this is what I tried without success:
* repeated rebooting
* unticking all of the vibrate choices and reticking them
* unticking all of them, rebooting, reticking test and reboot and test
* uninstalling all of my apps, one by one
* hard reseting and choosing to reinstall the automatically saved backup from the SD card.
What worked for me in the end was a hard reset (I used the volume down-power button method), and opting NOT to reinstall the backup data from the SD card.
Do you guys remember what you did prior to noticing this? Some have said running the battery down low, but I suspect it's some app that was installed or updated that causes it. I'd like to know so as to avoid having to hard reset again (cause it is a real PITA).
For me, in the day or so before it occurred, I had run the battery down low, had several app updates and had wifi network problems causing my Exchange email to hang, so I can't really narrow down what the cause was.
hmm, i cant pin it down to any app i installed but i also let the battery run right down ( so that the phone turned itself off). This seems to be common amongst the few people that have had the problem but we cant be sure unless someone does it who currently doesnt have the problem
Ok, ive found a solution elsewhere in this forum which means you dont have to hard reset your phone to get the vibrate working. If you download a program called 'sound manager' you can change the phones notification vibration settings. I have tried this and it is now vibrating fine for me when i receive notifications. If you want it, heres the link to the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5982672
it seems from everyones experience that this issue is caused by the battery going real low and it electing to turn off vibration to save battery, but never turns it back on when the phone is charged.
This phone seems real buggy to me...
Since I have installed the latest official ROM every now and then my TP2 gets stuck. It keeps on displaying the screen that was on it when it got stuck (sometimes it is black, because I wasn't using the device when it got stuck). The only thing left is to pull out the battery.
What could be the cause? Are more people experiencing this issue?
I have the latest version of the Dutch HTC ROM and no other programms installed.
Same phenomenon on my stock machine (no tweaks, no fancy ROM) that gets stuck every now and then...
Maybe too much files in the '/windows' directory ?
Interestingly enough, I am having the same issue with this. I had a problem with disappearing text messages in the past and HTC urged me to downgrade to the previous ROM version, which resulted in a non-functional GPS unit for me.
I recently discovered there was a patch for the SMS problem, upgraded and applied the patch. I discovered that the phone will grind to a halt when you have a large amount of text messages in your inbox. Removing most of the messages will speed up the phone, but will not really solve the issues with the hang up.
I'll try to have less sms messages and see if that works.
Or go into the sms settings and save them to the sd card.... If you do a hard reset though you might not be able to access them...
It's probably your SD card causing the problems, especially if it's HTC Sense that's causing your phone to get 'stuck'.
On custom ROMs we advise people to delete the Application Data directory on the SD card. Old files from a previous ROM seem to mess up Sense on the new ROM.
If that doesn't work, try removing the SD card completely. If the trouble is the SD card, you could also move the files off the card, reformat the card, and then replace the files.
My TP2 locks up as described in this thread after the ROM flash. About 3weeks ago, I disabled the tabs "Weather", and "Twitter" in HTC Sense and the problem seem to have disappeared. Then yesterday I re-enabled the Twitter tab and the phone locked up last night when it was in standby. No response when pressing power button or anything. Had to soft-reset to bring it back to life.
I have already disabled Twitter. Still sometimes the issue
Perhaps it is still some files on the SD card which are causing problems.
I had been having this problem for weeks as well, I emptied all my old texts and it is working fine now....
Just had my phone lock on a reboot, so after several minutes (Beyond normal) I reset it. when it started fully I had lost all my SMS's.
now I have a massive list of 300ish FILE00**.CHK files.
What can I do?
Thanks to a recent backup I have most of my SMS's back, but I'm missing some and What are the rest of the files?, What can I, should I do with them?
Cheers
