Use GPS via tablet via Bluetooth? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Is it possible to use a Touch Pro2 GPS on a laptop via bluetooth?

I wouldnt bother. You can probably get a gps reciever for your comp for pretty cheap. Then you wouldnt have to use your phone at all. Using your phone as a gps reciever and sending the signal to your laptop might run your phones battery dead faster, so if you were gonna use your phone as gps reciever, youd probly want to use usb rather than bluetooth, then the phone is charging and you have your bluetooth freed up for phone calls. But I would still suggest a reciever for your laptop, you wouldnt have to bother hooking your phone up n setting everything up every time you want to use gps
But yes i believe it is possible, Im pretty sure I saw a program for windows phones somewhere, that did send the phones gps info thru bluetooth to comp

It is called GPS2Blue and I never had any luck with it on bluetooth, but have via USB.

i just tried gps2blue again after years , now with rhodium and could get to work both tcp -> com and bluetooth -> com
WORKS GREAT with garmin on my tablet pc. and garmin-pc is even kind of made the way to use it on touch screens.
what do you have for a software?
here's what I have done:
cable:
on PC, install the Czech program called 'virtual serial port for tcp/ip'
Instructions where to get it and how to set it are here: http://users.skynet.be/hofinger/GPS2BlueFAQ.html#USB
on pda in gps2blue check TCP and choose com4 (or your gps SW EMULATED com port)
in gps program on pc choose to connect to the com port you just created with 'virtual serial port'
bluetooth:
choose com2 in gps2blue and click ON, rhodium's bluetooth manager should popup asking what to do, create a new port for your PC and go.
there is a little mess with this, it created two com2 ports on pda, till one was asking for a pairing code, the other just get connected. And is not showing them in list, or sometimes showing one, but then not showing activesync port. But nevermind. it's working.

Using Artemis as GPS receiver for Windows

Hi!
Is there a way to use the GPS receiver that is built into the Artemis as a GPS Device for Windows (XP or Vista).
Maybe over Bluetooth or USB / ActiveSync connection.
I tried to set up Bluetooth COM Ports so Incoming BT connections connect directly to the GPS COM port, but without success... no gps data was coming through.
Also I search for a small tool to test the receiver... just a compass or something.
regards,
Daniel
You cannot just "bridge" the GPS com port to your desktop OS via BT. The BT stack was never designed that way. All BT com ports you use must have a piece of software behind it to fill it with data, or otherwise they are just empty cans.
In your case, you need a GPS splitter to get gps signals from the GPS com port, and then repeat it to a BT com port so that the other end can receive such signal. That will provide a working bridge for your data.
Try software such as gpsgate that works as described above.
Hello, you can try GPS2Blue is a little free program that will let you use your Artemis as a GPS.
You can find it here: http://users.skynet.be/hofinger/GPS2Blue.html
Enjoy.
i got myself GPS2Blue and installed it.
My problem now is, that i cannot set up a BT COM port!
I have the (german) B&Bv3 ROM (WM6). In Bluetooth Settings in the "COM Ports"-Tab. It says "Tap on 'New outgoing port' ..." but theres no button or something. Just the describing text and an empty ListBox.
since I cannot set up my COM port, GPS2Blue won't swich on right?
So... is this a WM6 bug or a B&B Bug or my brain-bug
Setting up COM ports in my firmware WM5 OS worked just fine.
Thanks you guys for the info!
but what to do now?
GPSgate can do what you want (but it is not free)
gpsgate can set up bluetooth com ports? i dont think so
this is not a gps problem anymore!
i posted a new thread for my new problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315687
GPSGate can do it!!
Use this is the registration key:AmzeaBjw
Then your Artemis can pass GPS information to your PC through Bluetooth
Fransons GPS Gate will enable the sharing of GPS position to a number of different types of device, I am not too sure about posting a registration key for purchased software as these are specific to an individual user??? - Mike

Bluetooth Activesync

I know I'm going to get flamed which, after much debate, I realize I cannot avoid. I've searched and searched and perhaps I haven't searched properly. I've read endless posts on this and that but nothing. I'm going to lay this out and if you want to flame me... go ahead.
Cingular 8525 - Schaps 4.01 Lite
IBM Thinkpad T60
Bluetooth Configuration > Diagnostics > Device Properties
Manufacturer: Broadcom Corporation
Firmware Revision: Version 2.1.92.108
I create a partnership by searching for the computer from my device. Find it and enter the code. Partnership complete.
Open My Bluetooth Places\My Device and I see 11 potential services which include, My PIM Synchronization, My Dial-up Networking, My audio gateway and 8 others. So basically, I have a lot of possibilities. On my 8525 I have only 4 possible connection types which are Dun, Serial, headset and something else but NOT PIM synchronization.
I go to activesync on my 8525 with Bluetooth radio turned on. Go to connections and I have the when cradled "synchronize all pc's with USB (my only option). Click on menu > connect via bluetooth and get the message "cannot find an existing bluetooth partnership with a pc that supports activesync...". Sounds like a pc side issue maybe so i go to activesync on my pc and make sure that I allow a connection. I choose com6 because it is available and I modified HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Serial\Ports\00000016ceed6fdcort to use com6 because otherwise my only option is com0 which isn't available in activesync.
Anyway, it still wont connect. I'm not a genius but I'm not an idiot either. I'm obviously missing something so help a brotha out.... PLEASE!!
I am having the same problem with my BT bluesoid (cant spell)...I know have used it before, but could not figure out how to do it with hermes.
Let me know if you find a fix...
I'm searching through the threads...I think I saw somewhere how broadcom's BT drivers don't work with AS or WMDC...Somebody had removed the Broadcomm stack and defaulted to the Micro$oft BT stack...
There's some info here with XP if you haven't seen it:

I finally got it to work by changing the com ports in activesync on my laptop. I am currently using "com 7". Each time I changed com ports I deleted the connection and paired again. That was the only way I could get it to work.

Did you have to edit the laptop registry to get com7 to work? In activesync, i don't have the option of using com7. Only com1 and 3 or IR.
i have the same problem here,it says" cannot find an existing bluetooth partnership with a pc that supports activesync..."." and then opens some sort of list whit divices and services.
i have selected com 8 becouse i wont select com7 (dunno why)
so i selected com 8 in every program: bluesoleil, activesync 4.5 and MS stack in my ppc.
the system is in spanish but you can recognoise all the things in a sec.
but still cant sync, what am i doing wrong?

ActiveSync via Bluetooth is the most confusing and non-user friendly thing that any software develop can ever come up with. You're not alone. After trying to figure it out for many months, I gave up. Hopefully, your thread can shed some light.
Create a Bluetooth serial port...
You're almost there...once you have the partnership established, open your bluetooth settings and go to the "COM Ports" tab. Press the "Add..." button and create an "Incoming" port. Give it a sec and it will go through the whole "new hardware found" thing. Make a note of the Com Port number it created. Once thats done, open up active-sync on the PC and go to "File->Connection Settings" and check the "Allow connections to one of the following:" and set it to the com port that was created. Hit "OK", then on the mobile device run activesync and go to "Menu-> Connect via Bluetooth". You should now be good to go.
After fighting this one for several months with my 8525 w/att wm6, here what I found .......
On my Dell (toshiba stack) you will have two types of com ports . Incoming (server) and outgoing (client). The incoming(server) is the one you want, but not important as you will see!! The only thing that is important is to note which com ports did your bluetooth manager setup!!!
After you set the ActiveSync partnership with your PC through USB. Go to Files/Connection Setting. Check the box " Allow connections to..."Now select the incoming(server) com port, or at least the one you think it is!! OK out...
Now on the 8525 go to ActiveSync, select connect via bluetooth. When it comes to the "No Partnership exists....". Now follow the prompts on setting up the bluetooth partnership. Select your PC, NOW Re-discover services on your PC!! If the correct port is selected on your PC, ActiveSync service should appear. If not, no sweat, just go back to the PC. Change the com port in the connection setting for Activesync. Now back on 8525 re-discover services on your PC. If you have to, just go down the list of com ports until you get the Activesync service to show up!!
Now here is the Kicker, when you get the active sync service and hit OK. Now try to ActiveSync via Bluetooth. if it come back with no partnership exists, just follow the screen prompts. select your PC with activesync service is checked....uncheck it, then re-check it. Now you should receive a warning about ending connection to conserve power. You are done!!
Good Luck!!
Stuart
Holy Crap it works..thanks a million scl_electronics, I had given up on the whole activesync & bluetooth. I saw the thread and said why not..let me try again. It was pretty much how you explained( there were some differences, using broadcomm stack). It is a little confusing, but hell it took me about 20 mins of fiddling around and now it works..Great Work

We need more specifics to your issue, as there are several solutions. depending on which bluetooth stack you're using.
SO tell us which OS you're using on your PC (or MAC)
And tell us which bluetooth stack (drivers) you're using so we can give you the help you need
i have windows xp sp2 and the bt is dell 355 + EDR thank you

Do you know what COM ports (COM ports numbers) for serial connections the bluetooth stack created. The reason why i ask is, if you know which virtual serial COM ports your bluetooth stack created (ex: COM Port 3, COM Port 4, COM Port 5) and which com port number your device is assigned when you are paired with your PC, then you can go to connection settings in activeSync on your PC and select conection via com port and in the dropdown, match the COM port your device uses when connected to your PC.
Then the next time you connect your phone to your PC via bluetooth, in the services section of your phone (after it scans your PC for services) one of those services should say "Activesync" when you check that and press OK you should be able to freely connect via bluetooth
ok, im gonna do that right now
tnx
in my phone services it appears activesync, but it does not connect, i have in the port com19 and in activesync i have it too but it just doesnt connect

You need to make the port on activesync either 6 or 7 for some reason those were the only two ports for me that appear in WM I am using 6.1 now. Also are you sure that the computer and the phone are both set up to be "visible" to each other? When you do a bluetooth scan from the computer without using activesync can you see the phone? On the phone you just turn on visibility after you enable bluetooth. On your computer I am not sure. Then once they have both established a connection you should be able to see the phone then setup your comports and select activesync as a service. This should enable you to sync bluetooth by selecting it in the menu from activesync. The problem that I am having myself is that when I try to sync the phone between my laptop work--and home the internet explorer favorites get messed up and i am getting an activesync error between files and favorites. What I have been doing is deleting the device and starting fresh however this sucks but at least i always have a backup either the laptop or the desktop
they are both visible, the problem that i have is that i cant use a 6 or 7 port inmy laptop, all the ports that i can make are 14,15,16 etc. so in my computer i cant open the 6 or 7 port
so its pretty crazy
Heres what you do

Can you use the soleil drivers they have always worked well for me i to have had that problem. I ended up deleting everything and starting form scratch that fixed the problem. And yes that means the drivers on the computer. Also make sure that your not running the dell driver(might be toshiba stack) and the windows drivers this will cause conflict.
I am also having all sorts of bs with the Toshiba BT stack... need to find some compatable drivers.
so the thing is, i have to uninstall de dell driver and install a bluesoleil driver???
where do i find it?
i´ve already downloaded a bluesoleil driver but it didnt work

Activesync Issues w/Kavana ROM & Toshiba BT Stack

OK so this may sound like a broken record, but i will NOT ask 4 help if i feel if i haven't already tried everything else. So here goes (takes a biiig deep breath) .......
This has worked exactly one time since i've upgraded to the kavana 6.1 ROM. I know it's not something wrong with the ROM that would require a reset, since this currently works on my work PC which uses the bluesoleil BT stack.
These are the many many steps I have already tried ( with a little assistance by a few of you already) :
I have made sure that i have gone on my PC to control panel-->bluetooth local COM. Created a toshiba COM port (server-side not client) and have created COM ports ranging from COM Port(s) 2,3,5,6,7,8,9,10,15,16,17,18&19 and each time I've created those COM Ports, I have also mirrored that COM port in Activesync (v 4.5) on my PC to read that COM Port. Second, I have removed any previous pairings from both the PC and from my phone. I then start activesync on my phone and of course it does not detect a partnership, so I search for BT devices and find my PC. I pair to it and when I get to services, it shows wireless stereo and serial port. At this point, I know that I am connected to the PC via BT since my BT icon on my sytem tray has gone from blue w/white BT log to blue w/green BT logo. I then refresh my services several times only for it to give me the same previous 2 services as before. So I thought "maybe it's detecting a serial port that im not assigning Activesync to?"
I then delete the serial COM port I just added in the control panel and refresh my services again on my phone and low and behold, the only service it now shows is wireless stereo. ( SO THIS MUST MEAN THAT IT IS ONLY DETECTING THE SERIAL COM PORT THAT I AM CREATING RIGHT?) I have tried creating a new outgoing COM port on my phone. ( have tried both COM 6 & 7 and also secure connection checked and unchecked. I have also turned on and off OBEX security on my phone. ) I have even tried completely removing activesync and the toshiba bluetooth stack from my PC and re-installing. I have even gone as far as installing toshiba BT stack ver. 4,5 & 6.
Heck, I even found a trial version of bluesoliel just to see if it worked and it didn't even work, same thing with the default MS BT stack. Same issue. I have tried the pairing process from my PC but the only service it wants to connect going that route is wireless file transfer. I have my security on my toshiba BT stack set to low, ( I've even tried standard too) I have tried turning off my firewall (windows firewall only). I have tried disabling my anti-virus ( avast! home edition). I even tried chaning the device name to see if that would work. But no go. Both devices (PC & Phone) have been reset a multitude of times. I have absolutely no problems connecting my device via ActiveSync using the USB Cable. I have tried checking and uncheking the allow USB Connections in connection settings in AS.) I have even tried connecting via connection settings to sniff out the COM ports while I'm trying to refresh the services on my phone at the exact same time it shows smiffing the com port I'm connected to.
So, as you can see by my book I have now written. I am at my wits end on this. Hopefully that wasnt too much to read. I felt like it was important to give you everything I have done so far as not to leave no stone unturned. I really hope this is some sort of simple oversigt on my part. and will welcome any suggestions from anyone, but please, only post a suggestion if you have read what I've already been through. I am not a novice, not a noob and and extremely proficient on my own handling these issues usually. However, I am humbling myself this time for any suggestions that might be a great help.
Thank you and Godspeed.
Anyway. I'm closing my thread. I didnt necessarily figure out exactly what the problem was, but i did somehow, some way fix it.
What id did do in addition to the aforementioned steps was:
i went into regedit on my PC @ HKCU-->Software-->Windows CE Services and i noticed the "defname" value was set to a previous name i had set for the phone. So i changed that to reflect my current phone name. I also changed HKCU-->Software-->Windows CE Services the "serialport" value from COM7 to COM6.
I then went to HKLM-->Software-->Microsoft-->Windows CE Services and Set the "serialport" value to from COM7 to COM6.
So i then opened up control panel and went to bluetooth local COM and deleted any com ports that windows would let me. I then created Com port 6 to be server side serial port. Then i went into activesync on my PC--> connection settings and set it to read COM Port 6. I then removed any pairings from both my PC and my phone and from the phone, I searched for new bluetooth device. When it found the PC it I then saw the bluetooth icon change to green in my taskbar and the active sync symbol started spinning for a couple of seconds. Once i finished adding the device on my phone, I then attempted a connectiion via bluetooth from my phone and voila! i was connected! I went ahead and rebooted both my phone and my PC after i saw that it worked to see if it wasn't a fluke and tried again once both devices were rebooted. And this time......wait for it......It works still! Hooray! So now that i have less than half of the hair in my head since starting this gauntlet of terror. I can now say. PROBLEM SOLVED. Maybe this will help others that may have had this issue b-4. The one thing i read on another forum that i hadn't tried yet (which is most likely what solved it 4 me) was that i made sure i removed any com ports, whether it me server or client side com ports on my PC and i left them off when i created just one new server serial COM port.

Tether Dash to Another Phone (TM506)?

OK, this may be a bit naive, especially since T-Mo is rumored to stop tethering on the TM506 in later updates (heaven forbid SIM provisioning), but I would like to tether the Dash to the TM506, like a PC, via BT and only have data on the TM506. I really love my Dash for now and the TM506 has HSPDA 3.5G. Can this be done? Can any additional WM6 software accomplish this?

Find my thread on Bluetooth Dun, it has the software you need, just install it on your T-Mobile Dash to the main memory. If you cannot find it get back with me...........!
Thanks for the quick reply and advice.
I'll search your threads to find the DUN Posts and post back in a few days. So I quess the Dash can dial to T-Mo 3G using the TM506 modem via BT. Great!
I just wonder if there is a way to configure DUN without it eating minutes. Previously, when I set up connection teaming on a laptop with the Dash and a Samsung T409 using DUN, minutes on my plan began to mysteriously get used.
Is it possible to use T-Mo DUN without eating minutes off your plan?

Thanks, I still have it in my downloads from the last time you helped me. I didn't really need it then because my modded Dash had BT DUN enable for PC to Dash modem. Hope it works for Dash to TM506 modem.
Update: I installed the app to main memory but I don't see a program link or folder in program files. I'm guessing something went wrong but the install was reported as successful.

Sorry, Techhology but I still can't figure this out. The Bluetooth services of the TM506 only list Input Device and Serial Port. Give me a few more pointers. Thanks.

Print a picture of what you are working with on the Sony TM506, I would love to make this work. Another thing did you get the 2 devices paried.......?
Yes the devices are paired. The TM506 sees these services on the Dash: Object Push, File Transfer, Audio Remote Control and target. The Dash sees these services on the TM506: Input Device and Serial Port.
It appears that the SE PC Suite connects to the TM506 through BT serial port. You can also use BT dial-up networking directly instead of BT serial port.
If it were possible to have the Dash use the BT serial port on the TM506, like the SE PC Suite, then it might work. But I can't find any function in the Dash to do this.
I was also successful in connecting two PC's to the TM506 via BT. One via BT DUN and the other via BT PAN. The PC's had internet but the connections seemed very slow.

Ok, you will not see anything the Dash but the BT dunn file are there. Do you have a BT set up on the TM506?
Somthing tells me this would have been easier with a PPC instead on a Smartphone. GRIN
I can use DUN from a PC to both the TM506 and the Dash just fine. But I can't seem to figure out how to use DUN from the Dash to the TM506.
Many BT profile features on the TM506 are not visible to the Dash. Especially DUN and PAN. The BT serial port is visible but theres no application on the Dash to take advantage of this like the SE PC Suite does.
I've attached a picture of the BT services provided by the TM506 to a PC using the Widcomm BT stack.
Looks like the picture is too small. I'll try to post a better one.
Larger Photo of TM506 BT service to a PC with Widcomm BT Stack. The SE PC Suite uses the Serial Port to connect. Use can also use Dial-Up directly. In the photo I was using PAN - notice the green connected icon.
