Having done a search of the forums I have found a cab file for the HD2 which will put the £ sign as a long press on the f button but cannot find anything for android.
Does anybody know if this has been done for the android on the desire as this would make it much easier to select than having to go through to the 2nd page of the numbers screen. Or if the $ sign can be changed to £. Thanks in advance.
Hmm I get the feeling you will probably have to install a customisable keyboard
Would be as simple as editing the IME. I say simple... I don't know how to do it, but know it can be done.
Thanks for the reply,s is there anybody out there that could edit the IME as I don't even know what it is. It would be handy for UK and maybe European desire owners on the long press on the F button if we could choose between the £ and Euro sign.
Thanks Again
Oops sorry didn't read the op's message properly.
There's someone who's edited the keyboard to have a microphone icon on it. You could try contacting him and asking him if he would consider adding the £ sign in the next release?
I don't have time to search but there's a topic on it somewhere in this forum.

Just change the keyboard setting in advanced config or under HTC Custome if you have it, select Cingular for ATT & Cignular or you lang if dif. I think this is like the 100th time this has been asked. Doesn't anyone use search?
Thanks Scrambler001, i am glad someone asked it, i am a newbie i tried a search, before asking but you was kind enough to still answer that other person. I have to sneak around work to use the cpu really so i never have a chance to actually sit and read. Thanks again, fixed...
i checked in the advanced config app, the only choice for keyboard layout is "english", still the same results. I dont have any HTC Customize apps or settings on my device either.

Well then just install HTC Custome if you need to. I thought all the options were available in Schaps rom though you might need to scroll up or down to find the Cingular one if thats what your looking for. Thats what I did when I installed his ROM.
8525 Keyboard Fix
This always works for me. Hope it helps.
I"m just wondering, did no one bother to look in the Schapp's 4.0 thread. I think it was asked about four times in there

You bet I even posted the answer there a few times already but the starter of this thread probably didn't go through the whole thread or search using a good key word like "keyboard" or some such. I think the total is more than 4 though and if you count the number of times it's been asked out of the thread well I run out of fingers and toes so go figure. LOL
yes i already posted this in the raphael thread but no one seems to know the answer so i thought i would post here. thanks
I am using the htc T9 keyboard and i am trying to figure out how to get it to give me a list of words after the first letter is typed. as it stands right now its gives me a list of words after 3 letters. i have tried going to settings input and word completion but it does not works as i think that is for the winmo default keyboard. i have searched everywhere but i can't find the answer. thanks for the help in advance

Is there a way to manually launch the keyboard?
The reason I ask is I my partner visits one of her forums on Phone and when it comes to adding posts (using a system not to disimilar to these boards) she can't get the keyboard to appear?
Any suggestions?
If anyone needs to know the forums are on babycentre.co.uk
Press and hold menu I think.
What do you mean by "manual launch"? When you click in the textarea or input field it shows up - is that not manual?

Yeah - even if your not in a text area you can fore it open. it has some uses im sure....
its the same as the quick reply box on here. You can't get a cursor to type in the text box. Is there a workaround

Please click one of the Quick Reply icons in the post above to activate Quick Reply?
I suspect that the forum doesn't support the latest Android browser she used to have issues browsing the site when she used her g1 but she could at least edit the text box
It's ok I disabled javascript on her phone and can now use the reply box. Cheers anyway. Oh and holding menu did nothing on either of our desires. :/

One solution could be to manually relaunch your partner, but that is probably a more cumbersome and less satisfying method.
Hi - How can i edit the keyboard so there is a £ sign instead of a $ sign when you do a long press f?
I'd like to know this too.
I can't believe they burried the UK £ sign in page 2 of the extra characters.
Can someone provide a 1 button hack?
Well, not really a 'hack'.. and perhaps a bit dirty as well
But if you use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416
And then in worst case you can add the £ sign as a smiley, and then it's a near 1 button solution (or you just use the £ sign instead of smileys, that'll do just fine as well!).
I'm not sure if it's possible to change keys with that mod as well (only looked it at for like 5 seconds), but I'm sure some customizing is possible. So perhaps other stuff next to smileys and .com stuff is editable!
Thanks - i am running that mod already - good idea to put it in the smiley's section
If anyone can come up with a way to actually modify the long press f key though that would be great - not only for us brits but i'm sure the europeans wouldn't mind a € sign & obviously other currency signs too would apply...

I'm using V27 and whilst the F key shows a $ symbol, if I long press on 'F', I get a pop-up with $, € and £. No need to go to 2nd page. See screenshot.

Cool - thanks for letting us know - i didn't even try that as i never have the need to do a long press F - always went to the 2nd extra characters page... :-D
I see that inamak got his wish, but for the other custimizations is there any way to edit the characters that appear after a long press? I am also using HTC IME mod on Froyo.
Especially since the phone released in Europe first. It should have has the £ and € pop up first. Luckily I'm in Australia....

There is a thread on this already but the answer didn't make sense to me and the two words I have to type to login to the main site don't agree when I type them so I ask here: how do I type an equals sign on the standard Android keyboard?
The answer given was hold down the 12# key and then the 1/2 key bottom left. There is no 1/2 key bottom left on my keyboard ...
Presumably there are a whole lot of currency symbols as well but when I long press on the f key I only see $ which seems very strange.
Please help me with these mysteries.

If you're talking about stock, isn't it like this?
1) Press the [?123] key on the bottom left.
2) Press the [ALT] key above the [ABC] key?
It is on stock Andoird ROMs but the OP doesn't say if they're on stock or Sense

Definitely, so I only assumed it was stock from his first post

Yes and no ...
It seems that the misunderstanding is because the instructions are in American whereas I speak read and write English.
'Press' in English means 'push down and hold' but it seems that 'press' in American means 'push down and withdraw'?

Makes me American then I've always treated 'Press' as 'Push and Release' unless told otherwise.
Suppose its all how you interprete it

OK well I'm from Aotearoa and in Aotearoa press means what it says in the English English dictionary I glanced at which is 'exert a steady pressure'.
It's only important when one needs to know in a given procedure - like rooting - exactly what one is doing.
Perhaps the consistent meaning on these forums is the equivalent of a mouse click not a mouse click and hold?
