Hi guys, got my new Desire but having a couple of problems. I use it mainly on the daily commute into London, just to browse the web. However, whenever I load a page in the browser, view it and then hit the Back button to go back to where I was, the phone has to re-request it over the airwaves. Should it not be caching? I've checked and my web cache is definitely set to 6MB.
Also I've noticed that while HSDPA works, when the phone moves to 3G the down arrow never lights up; I can only seem to receive data when the icon is H (or in 2G mode). Does anyone have any clues? I'm on T-mobile UK by the way.

i noticed that sometimes my phone lags when swtiching to hsdpa ...for instance loading a attachment or on opera it would take a minute then swtich to the H and immediatly start downloading but it lags to swtich sometimes and sometimes even cuts out. Any way of fixing the lag or swtiching? So that i can have faster connect swtich times per say.

It could well be the network. Two things to be aware of:
- swapping between GSM/EDGE and UMTS+HSDPA requires the radio change modes. It's a bit like roaming to a whole different cell group.
- HSDPA is an extension to UMTS data, and is activated by the cell (if the client is capable) in very quick bursts, depending on the volume of traffic already queued for that client and on other users (I think I heard it was up to 10 users per channel). When things are busy you may not get any HSDPA at all. Or you may get it in short bursts that come and go quicker than the 'H' display is updated on your screen.
thats def true , ...but for some reason on my co workers phone he seems to connect quicker then me from my observations. Upon launching a program lets say mobi tv or any prgram requriing a higher speed connection where its avaible .My hangs for a minute then connects while his swtiches and connects almost isntantly. I was thinking if there are any mods regi edits persay to increase the swtiching code but guess thats not available.
Perhaps changing your network type from 'auto' to
'GSM 900+1800 , UMTS 2100'
or whichever your network uses. The device might be testing all frequencies when it is on auto??
thanks will try
try the new radio...143 that may help as well.
yea ima try 143 when i get home. I hate the delayed H. lol
When I use the default browser, there is always an initial pause before the browser loads the site I have requested. Is there anyway to stop this from happening?
The pause can take up to 10-15secounds before it decides to load the site and its very annoying.
I´ve also this problem.
Fix?
Is this on Wi-fi or 3g? Or both
I've had a similar experience in the past while using 2g/3g. Concluded the DNS servers used by some mobile networks are very slow resulting what you are seeing.
It may be posible to specifiy an alternative DNS server to speed it up??
Both 2/3 g and wifi..
Any solution for this?
Thanks
If its wi-fi and 3g it wont be a dns problem, you tried clearing
some cache maybe??
Just a guess at a fix,
or try using a different browser?
Already tried both solutions... thanks anyway..
Anything else?
Which rom you using?
t-mobile, orange, or stock?
Its odd, mine sometimes does this. Mines sim free on a stock rom. Does it on orange or o2. Does it on different browsers too. It gives me the first few millimetres of render across the top bar then occasionally it just sticks for maybe 15 seconds. But it always does it at that first bit of loading the page. Most of the time it just moves like **** of a shovel from start to finish. Its not just on the very first connection either. You would possibly expect that first render to not be as snappy but theres no reason as to when it happens. Nothing major just something slightly annoying.
I also see this, WiFi and 3G.
Been using Opera mini 5 beta, the last two days, it is lot better/faster that the standard browser.

Ok.. i´ve just solved this problem regarding 3g browsing* but wifi browsing remains.
Any comments?
*Open the Phone dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#* (note the symbols are backwards)
Tap on Phone Information
Scroll Down and set your Preferred Network Type to GSM auto (PRL) - NOTE this does not disable 3G or HSDPA! Speed tests still show I am receiving speeds up to 2.4mbps - NOTE there will still be the 3G and H icons in your status bar
This has fixed the connection dropout issue for me, please let me know if this hasn't helped for someone else.
Have just tried this and things do seem to load faster. Why would it have been set to WCDMA as defualt do you think?

Hmmmmm didn't cgreg 92 originally post this? Cut and paste is great and all but credit where credits due! Anyway ive done this already, thanks to cgreg92. But the occasional delay still happens on all connections. Its not regular, just an occasional pain. A fix would be good?
True... copy and paste... but didn´t assume credits..just pointed to a parcial solution to my problem.. now that i´ve cleared that... any solutions out there to slow wifi (with strong signal)?

This is a partial solution. It certainly calmed down my internet connection by 90 odd percent. But this slow occasional, sticking still exists on all connections. Interestingly, my internet connection now sticks about as often as it use to crash out. Its almost as if this method somehow forces the connection through. But like I say, it does occasionally still get stuck. I done this trick weeks ago now, and its still there, just alot better.
This morning my phone lost i-net. I'm no longer able to connect to internet using 3G my browser says error on network and android market says "no connection" or something like that
The icon "H" is still displayed in status bar indicating that there is HSPD connection, but there isn't. Under the "H" there are two arrows pointing up and down, wich usualy stayed gray while no data used, and become bright while data is used. Now "down arrow" is bright all the time - something wrong. The problem is that I haven't touch any settings recently it just gone wrong this morning.
I've done hard reset - no luck, same problem.
now even cannot send sms.
What is wrong ? can I tottaly reset the phone somehow?
P.S. SIM card seems to be alright. I've put it in another phone and i-net and messages go allright.
..how do I get rid of this HSDPA ?
I want force it to regular UMTS (3G)
Hi yonef!
Firstly, I think that HSDPA is the only 3G system in this fone.
So, if you really wanna test if everything is working fine, I suggest you try to put it in 2G mode and check stuff.
Go here: Settings > Wireless & network settings > Mobile Networks > Select network
and select 2G only.
Now try to SMS and surf and see if stuff works. If its still a dud, then a call to the customer care is what you really need!
Although am quite new to android, I have been successfull in modding my trusty old Sony Ericsson K550i fone
yeep, I've just found that 2G kind of working, It is receiveing data (slow), but occasionally it says that there is no connection to internet.
It should be something with the phone, because when I put this very SIM in another phone, 3G is working just fine. When I put it back to the motorola, it is connecting ( "H" symbol apears but there is no internet
Hard reset did not fix it
And it happens jut this morning, I havent touch any settings since last week (weird)
Hi
I've had a weird issue crop up this morning. When I woke up I checked my phone like I usually do and I had data connection on 3G but when I opened the web browser its showing 'Web page not available' like it does when I have no connection.
Everything was working fine last night. I though maybe it was the cell tower as I had an issue a few weeks ago of terrible connection so waited till I got to work to try again. Same thing. Web pages not coming up. Now my apps seem to have limited access to the data and are half loading things up. I know data is being accessed somewhere as I have 3G Watchdog and I can see the amount of data used increasing yet cant get any of my web browsers to work.
This isn't only limited to 3G as I've just connected to the wifi at work and still have the same issue.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Oh and phone is rooted too if that makes any difference and I've not downloaded any new apps in the last couple days or updated any of them either :/
Anyone have a ideal why this is happening? When I am on the Internet 3g sometimes 4g depending on where I am in my house. My Internet dies, I see the 3g icon sometimes the right arrow (up green) but not the left arrow (down orange) under the 3g when Internet dies. So I have to do sometimes is to open a new Window, Even to kick start my youtube app. I have the bookmark Google page. I have to open Google page in a new window to kick the Internet going again, then go back to the window I was trying to open that can't find to open, to get the Internet working again. This kinda started maybe two ago, oh note to add they started with my 4g couple weeks ago in my area, not full. So maybe something to with the towers? Any suggestions will help and thank you all developers for all time,
A little about my phone:
1. Not rooted
2. All My poxxy are all at 0.0.0 etc. -did it months ago, right 0 at the rights spots.
3. My back cover that iam using don't have anything nfc antenna on it, iam sure it dont matter.
4. uag case
5. Setting in settings is on mobile its on cdma/lte I did automatic nothing changed
Thanks again
if they're working on the towers, not uncommon to have network issues.
To get your internet back, just go into airphone mode, and then turn it off. The phone will reconnect.
If it's that bad and inconsistent, you may be able to complain and get Sprint to get you one of those AirWaves thing to let you use your internet to support your phone on the network.
