I've been looking for a HardSPL for my CDMA Touch Dual (Neon400/P5310) for a while and it doesn't look like it's coming. It seems that there is nobody skilled enough with access to the phone to unlock it.
I have access to the phone, and I have some tech skills, just not in this particular department.
Can anybody point me to a guide for unlocking the CID on phones so that I can start learning how to do this? Otherwise, can somebody guide me or give me some tips on how to begin?
I would be greatly appreciative.
Unfortunatly the NEON400 CDMA is the bastard child of a Nike and a Diamond on a hot drunken night.
Since this phone is really only available in Canada to Telus and Bell (I've also heard Asia but can't confirm), that really limits the number of developers who can work on it.
Hang in there buddy and keep searching (which so far I've done weekly without any results)
Did you try Goldcard? If it works, you'll be able to flash official ROMs for other CIDs (if any are available).

Could you explain Goldcard a little more? I haven't heard of it. Wait, is it a SIM card thing? the NEON400 is a CDMA phone.
Check the wiki; I've never used one myself, but it's some sort of patch you put on your sd card that allows you to flash a stock rom from another carrier off of your sd card. You need to use QMAT or something like that to make the gold card. Just do some searching, but it may not be all that straightforward (big surprise, huh?).

Yeah, I looked into it and I have downloaded QMAT. I feel that I'm in WAAAY over my head here.
Also, I don't want a stock ROM, I want a custom ROM.
Can anybody tell me what is required to make a HardSPL install? If I dump a ROM from my phone, can somebody do something with that?

You pretty much have to be a hacker extraordinaire to write a hard spl. Just get the gold card to work and live with a stock rom. A stock HTC would probably be fine; I don't think that they are loaded with bloatware the way carrier roms are.

I've never seen a stock HTC ROM. Just the ones that the carriers give out. Where does one find a stock HTC ROM?
I have just purchased a P5310 on EBAY
HTC appears to have a generic rom but requires a SN to access it (which i dont have yet)
if it is available please post it here.
any one got a stock orange uk htc desire rom?? im returning mine tommorrow and i need it asap!
I am looking for the Orange ROM as well.
Whats the reason for returning it? There is a French-based ROM floating about, not sure if that will do the trick...
Stock Orange ROM has never seen the light of day, it's the risk you take debranding your phone
It's a shame, in a way, that no-one did a dump of the system & data partitions from an Orange-branded phone prior to flashing
Well there are 2 options, wait for the official 2.2 ruu to turn up.
or ask someone prior to rooting orange UK phones to take a dump (you will have to talk them through it.)

I am running stock OrangeUK, I made a dump of the system but I didn't know what to do from there. If anyone can help me through I would only be too happy to give it a go!
Can you also dump boot and data please??
Then, if you know how to use FTP, I can give you access to my server to upload them to if you wish and I can host/get a flashable ROM done for those wishing to re-brand
Yeah, you will have to bare with me sorry, have formatted since I got the system folder. Also yes i know how to upload to ftps, will let you know when i have the files though!
How did you dump the orange Rom?
I was under the impression it wasn't possible and
people were waiting for orange based ruu to be leaked on HTC,web
I wish I looked into this more myself now, if it's possible...>_<oh badger
You can dump the stock partitions (system, boot, data, etc etc) the only thing which is needed then is to unpack these images, and to re-package it into a flashable update.
It's not so much a full RUU then, but more of a Clone
Either way, it will still then give the ability to re-flash a stock-RUU-based ROM for Orange, and/or have a stock Orange-based ROM with Root
Soon as I get the files from saitrix, I'll get on with it, and do 2 versions, 1 rooted, 1 stock.
I did a nandroid on my uk orange just after rooting.
Don't know if its possible to re flash the nandroid then do an unroot. If it is then i can zip it up and ftp it or put it on my ftp server.

I have only been able to copy the system folder, it seems the other folders are protected for some reason.

Dude, i'm running some crappy ROM on my HTC Desire, did you ever make the flashable RUU? I NEED IT
Bumping up an old thread here!
It looks like I may have a problem with my Desire's motherboard cos I have constant rebooting problems. I'm gonna need to return my phone to stock before I can send it back for repair.
Did anyone ever have any luck getting a stock orange uk rom?
I have a T-mobile uk branded desire (firmware version 2.1 -update 1 )
(software number 1.15.110.11), I dont want to root as i want to keep the warranty, but the low volume problem is really pissing me off, I tried to watch a film while stuck on the underground today, I could not hear a word of it, even with hi end sennheisers, its really pissing me off!!!
I have been told that switching to the stock HTC rom will solve the issue.
If possible pls explain how? I am an android newb and will need help.
Many thanks in advance.
sadly, no.
But if you have a problem, you can keep a backup of the stock HTC sense rom, and restore it. Additionally, you can restore the recovery to stock (I think i saw it somewhere).
After all that, you are good to go. Warranty still valid, and you can RMA it
Thanks for the reply, pls remember I am a newb, how do I do this???
Root your phone, do what you want with it, just keep this handy...
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_127570_signed.exe
It's the current T-Mobile UK stock ROM and can be reflashed at any point to return to stock for warranty purposes (link may go down occationally so keep trying until you have it)...to reflash the stock ROM just make sure you have your Desire connected to your PC with HTC Sync and run the file - simple as that!!
I really dont want to root it to be honest, the phone is perfect except for the media volume! Do you think if I contacted htc they would be able to tell me how to change the rom without rooting it?
You CANNOT change the ROM without rooting, and HTC wouldn't tell you as it's breech of their warranty...just root it, you can always go back to stock if need be using the file I posted
Rooting isn't for everyone. If you have doubts about it, you should not do it. It's better to read some more about it than to hastely brick your phone. Most bricks are solvable these days, but it is no fun to do. If you want root just for the volume, it's not worth it if you don't know what you're doing, imho.

I have a T-Mo branded Desire that I have de-branded to a stock ROM, it's been OTA updated to 2.2 and just this morning it OTA updated to the new release all without rooting.
You just need to create a goldcard (very easy using the helper program) which will allow you to install any stock RUU. I have left the goldcard in my phone as it works as a standard microSD anyway to avoid any problems that occur when updating with out a gold card in.
I can't post links as I'm too much of a newb around here but search and the links are there.
Oke, quick question guys.
I have an unbranded HTC Desire UNROOTED, haven't rooted it yet...
It came with 2.2 and fully working etc..
My following question, is it worth it to root my phone and get a ROM?
What are the benefits of using a ROM on HTC Desire...
Because I've been reading comments on different ROMs for ages now and I just can't figure out which is best and has everything working.
I want a clean ROM which I then can flash a theme on, so it probably should not be odexed. Sorry for so many questions I just want to be sure.
So basically my question is root or not root, and if root, which ROM.
Share your experiences please, thanks !
Same here, what are the disadvantages to ROMs and rooting over a stock ROM??? Just problems with changing SD cards? Stability? Bugs??
a2sd+ and ****load of space for apps is no. 1 for me.
Every rom is stable enough for heavy everyday usage, unless they are marked as experimental, beta or something along those lines.
Youll be able to install as many apps you want with a2sd+ which is better than stock FroYo a2sd as all of the apps actually go onto the sd card.
Speed is massively improved on vanilla and sense roms, which is always lovely.
Endless mods too. Youll be able to pick themes for your roms, and even make your own if youre up to it.
Hopefully that will convert you

...but, if you're happy with the performance and features of the stock ROM then there's probably no need. Most of us here do it just cos we can....
Oh, and just a warning, if you do root your device and start flashing different ROMS you may not be able to stop. Has been known to cause many problems, typically with wives and girlfriends.
I have hboot version greater than 0.75 (0.93 I think) and stock UK 2.2 ROM with latest update, can I still root and flash?
i also want to root, but im waiting for unrevoked v3.2.1, however im not sure if it works with hboot 0.93 (which im also on) can someone clarify that it works or doesn't??
Thanks

Thats very true, but rooting basically unlocks everything, except system access, but thats nearly done
Haha, yeah, they do get quite peeved when you pay more attention on your phone than them
As for the hboot people, I think all hboots have been rooted, you just need to search the development forum.

I have rooted my phone and I'm happy I did it.
Just like the feeling of it that it can do more now and not be limited.
the new unrEVOked can root HBOOT 0.93 as I did it before going back to stock
I downgraded first, shouldn't make a different on how the ROM runs.
So downgrade hboot and then root and flash.
Right, but rooting messes up the OTA updates...
Rooting only affects otas if your not on an official rom.

Had it rooted for a few weeks installed 2 or 3 rom´s, a few theme mod´s....
get it back to unroot status, why?
first of all the new radio gives u less battery drains, u still have froyo with stock rom, fast and stable and most important issue of all, WARRANTY...
i already bricked on Magic 32A

U can use OTA updates with root, but you need to use fake flash to enter custom recovery, if u flash the custom recovery, removing the original one, u get an error when trying to update via OTA
And why finally decided to root my phone?
1. Because I love modifying gadgets.
2. More options, more space by extension.
3. You can always go back to unroot.
4. Theme Sense or Non-Sense.
5. Backup whole ROM.
Etc..
Those are the advantages I was looking for.
And I'm happy with it and had no trouble!
The updates will be on a ROM too anyways.
Don't ROOT
If i knew it was so hard to UNROOT i wouldn't have ROOTED in the first place...!
Why do you need to unroot so badly and what is preventing you?
So any other advantages of rooting apart from increasing internal memory? For stability and productivity, what ROMs are recommend? Is class two Sandisk ok for app2sd+? Can the ext3 partition be backed up or copied to another card?

Menu>Settings>SD & Phone Storage>Factory Reset
let me repeat my question, and get more specific. I need to wipe all data off my phone, everything.
Then I need to get the OS back on it.
Can someone tell me if you can do this without root, I need to completely clear all partitions AFAIK and then get a new CLEAN UNHACKED OS onto my phone.
Factory reset is not enough
RUU is not enough (alone anyway)
I need to get the flashable regions of my phone totally clear of malicious code.
bump for edit for previous
I don't think you have any options without root...only other option without root is boot into bootloader and clear storage.
For curiousity, what did you do that you need to undo and how could you have pushed "malicious code" onto other partitions without root?
unless you work for HTC or know somone that does, i thnk you are pretty boned, even contacting them directly all ive gotten is the usual "it cant be done" line so ....just wait for the hboot to get hacked and do it then i suppose..
What Android version are you on and your phone is currently rooted correct?
He stated in original post that it is NOT rooted.
4.24 gb EVO
hacked as hell
i think it was rooted before not to my knowledge, and flashed. also calendar exploited via google, I hope i can get some help outside the dev forum, because I i know they dont like questions there, thats why im posting here instead.
cant clean it now that i have OTA'd to GB.
I am finding alot of cool app engines along my trials and tribulations. makes me wish I had not stopped working in security several years back.
Someone gonna give a guy a hand? I am as trustworthy as they come if you are worried about anything getting out and about.
If it was rooted before, go into the bootloader and check if it says S-ON or S-OFF. If it's S-OFF, you can flash a recovery and now you're rooted again.
If it's S-ON, no, you can't do anything right now.
yeah im screwed
i just love it when my camera and speaker come on and monitor me all day and night long.

Sigh...ok...I'll bite. Why do you think your phone is doing this? What evidence?
And does the tin foil mess up your hair?
i watch the logs, i see the mic and or cameras come on, i see the filesys filling where I cant go see it because im not root, i see the traffic as it xmits it from local host to local host, i see the traces of the encryption keys and stunnels. This is only one instance.
I hope there is someone around here who has something more to offer than the people outside the dev forums, im getting killed following the rules.
So let me get this straight and my apologizies for sounding confuzed becasue every reply has been all over the place and has been of no real help to you yet..
Your on GB version 4.24 correct? Previously Rooted without you knowing? Your trying to get back too 100% stock as well? I hope I'm following this so far.
1st, the easiest way, download Root Checker from the Market and that will tell you right off the bat if your rooted or not. If thats not possible, enter bootloader as stated before and verify S-Off at top of screen. If so, flash Amon_Ra Recovery (rename to PC36IMG.zip if not already and place on root of SD Card). Enter bootloader and let it scan, apply update and from there you can do what you need to do. If it says S-On but you know your rooted, go to xHausx Auto Root guide, download the Froyo 3.70.651 Stock rom and place on Root of Sd Card named PC36IMG.zip, enter bootloader, let it scan and apply update, that will take you too 100% stock Froyo with hBoot 2.10 and you can apply GB update if desired or root with whatever method of your choice.
Once again, sorry if this is not what you were wanting but its irritating when you get the run around and people talk about tin foil hats and ridiculous stuff...and agreed, very hard to follow rules when most replies are worthless.

Read 1 post below yours, only way to figue out how to help is to know the details. Good 2 cents though.
I will give it a go, after I upgraded OTA it made me s-on, so i think im just screwed now.
I tried the ruu to go back but as you know it says too old files etc
i imagine this will do the same but i will try anything once, the guys at sprint gave me the go ahead to do whateever i need to do to try to backrev this thing, and if i brick it they will replace it so im up for ANYTHING PEOPLE
If you were originally s-off, the ota shouldn't have updated hboot. It can't turn you s-on, unless you reverse it yourself first..
Which means you were always s-on, and currently there is no way to assist you.
lets start over. are u S-OFF or S-ON? that will determine what ur options are.

There isn't anything that can be done for you at the moment. You said your s-on which means your not rooted which in turn means your bootloader is locked and you can't install a recovery and install the files you need to fix your problem. So I would call Sprint and tell em your device is being defective.
