Hi all!
I'm loving the Desire so far, except for this one little thing...
I have all the update schedules for updates to friend stream, news, email, facebook, twitter etc etc all set to the most frequent level, but they very very rarely update.
I am on T-Mobile and I have 4 or 5 bar HSDPA connection most of the time.
Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
I'm in a somewhat similar situation:
*Friend stream (Facebook and Flickr) and weather update as per set schedule but it doesn't update the widget also, only when you look at it for a few seconds.
*Mail works perfectly and updates "push" mode, there's no schedule for that
*News is the one that never syncs no matter what time I set it to.
Anyone else?
I've double checked all my settings and they seem to be fine, Hotmail is set up properly. Could this have anything to do with killing the apps using advanced app killer?
I used to have this problem but it seems to have fixed itself on the update to .11 (T-Mobile)
Mine doesnt update either, unbranded.. running orange.. on latest update!
It's one of the main reasons I bought the phone and it just doesnt do it, how frustrating!
I added the email widget to the main desktop, seems to work better now.

Friendstream and email seem to work fine with mine but I also have the same problem with the news widget.
It never seems to update even when I set it to after every 30mins
Perhaps HTC will release an update to fix shortly

I think it is because you are using an app killer, try adding them to the ignore list, and see if that helps?
Hi guys
I've written to HTC about the fact that the news widget doesn't update automatically and about the fact that the facebook profile pictures on your contacts doesn't also, but they've told me it must be something wrong with my phone as they've had no other complaints.
Looking on this website though suggests otherwise, so if you encounter this problem, pls leave your thoughts on here so that I can reply back with the link saying it's not an isolated incedent.
Cheers
I have the same problem, they just can't be bothered to check lol

I knew I wasn't the only one so the more people we have on this thread say they have the same problem, hopefully this'll get them to move their arse and get it fixed!
I have the problem with the News widget also.

My facebook contact photos don't update either. I've tried deleting their facebook account from their contact, then added them again, but even then it just goes back to the old photo, even though the facebook profile I've added has a completely different photo.
no, the news widget doesn't update. there have been a few threads about it already.
also, I emailed them about it myself and I'm sure I'm not the only one so it's strange that they would say they're not aware of it. I guess people aren't passing the message along...
I don't use the HTC News widget but the Facebook pictures not updating is bugging me.
I'm going to write an email to HTC support right now (along with some other bugs and problems).
Before you do that, search this forum for the threads about the issue and provide links in your email, so they know it's widespread.
Maybe part of the problem is that we're all in different parts of the world and emailing our local HTC support.
If one branch isn't receiving a lot of complaints about it, they might not communicate it to the central support team.

Will do. Though I have to wait a few more minutes until my Desire is charged. I need to check my serial number before I send anything
I've had the issue with the Facebook photos too. Removing the facebook sync then readding it worked, but the OTA update I had from TMobile the other night reinstated some old pictures that aren't even current on Facebook???
These are the issues I am personally experiencing right now (included some links to threads to show I am not alone):

EDIT:
HTC mail widget does not refresh the email list when a new email is received. The email application itself needs to be opened in order to refresh the email list.
I know some of them are either well known or maybe not 100% HTC's fault but I just want to let them know (or remind them) that these problems still exist.
Otherwise they won't fix anything without proper feedback.
I might have forgotten some of the issues so if someone has a problem and my Desire does suffer from it I can add it to my list.
When listening to the FM radio and a text message comes in, the radio is muted to allow the alert sound to play but the radio then remains muted (even if closed down and restarted). Only a soft reset fixes problem.
News widget not updating automatically.
I will try to reproduce the FM radio problem. If it really behaves this way I will add it to the list.
The HTC News widget will be added as well - I can confirm this already.
Thanks for the input so far. I am still compiling the list so feel free to add some more issues.

Will we? So far I haven't heard anything official about Froyo on Desire. It can take several months until HTC decides to release it.
Until then I would like to have these issues resolved as they are quite annoying and in some cases just plain stupid.
I know some of them may be irrelevant or not so important for others but for a device of such caliber I expected better and more reliable functionality.
And I would like to let HTC know about it...
Have you read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666332
You are posting a duplicated post, and the best you can do is add your problems to the other post since is sticky and have been here for a very long time now!
But if you want to send these "bugs" to HTC i'm with you - be sure to also add the ones that are on the post i referred since there are many more...
What about the pink screen ?:

I would like to know why HTC made so phones with sense can't connect to some bluetooth-devices f.ex. wii motes.
Whay don't HTC Come take a look at the XDA Forums thread.... If they took a look at all the problems that people are posting here, then there would be plenty of updates to come

Hi, there is/are xda threads about that already, which personally I am experiencing too; shut down takes 10-15 mins or even longer. Don't know if any app/s cause this matter or a bug in Desire, but as said this is a common concern.

* some contacts which are connected with one or more facebook accounts and/or gmail contacts change their names randomly (e.g. i set a contact to use FB name and next time i get there it's using email address)
* when I receive an sms from a web gateway, e.g. from vodafone, in the messaging app the phone puts in a thread with a facebook account which has no phone number (a blank one, created by the phone itself and that I can't seem to be able to delete)
* alarm doesn't ring if phone is off
hey man why don't you tell them to make an option to save the images taken by camera as dates instead of image# (number)
i copy my images into folders and everytime i take new images i need to rename them before moving them along or i will have filename conflict because my camera everytime starts from the same numbers...if the name was according to date they would be sorted as i want them and no problem moving them around too.
low res contact pics... a fix would be great
Hi guys, I'm having DHD for some weeks now, and so far everything is good (except the battery, but with this display it's understandable).
Two days ago the News app stopped syncing. When I click on sync, the icon flashes but no actual sync is made (I can see from the desktop google reader feeds). So I removed app data (from settings -> applications -> manage applications -> running).
Now the News app does not want to start at all. It flashes the screen and then it closes by itself. What can I do to restore the app and make it working again? (I mean without hard reset). I is not in the list of installed apps, can I find it from somewhere and reinstall it?

Had exactly the same problem. I gave up on it and switched to RSSDemon - very good app....
See here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834323 fixed by doing factory reset.
I had the same problem...did a hrad re-set last week...getting the same problem this week again! it says updating but doesn't update..I don't want to do a hard reset again..I think HTC should do something about this...i thought moving from a Nokia to HTC I would forget about hard reset...but not so!
So it turns out that this News app is quite buggy It's good that there are some nice alternatives in the Market.

Yeah -- the HTC news app and widget is horribly broken even with the Desire Z -- I tried clearing the user data and now it won't even prompt to add new feeds -- it just sits there with a blank window.
I disabled the sync for it, and now I'm using another news reader.
I also got this today.
Bahh, I'm not going to hard-reset....
Hmm, I now remeber, I downloaded, I think from xda, a zip with all the apk apps from the original rom... going to see if I can find it and install it...
Let us know if the news app is there.

I've search the news apk from the zip that I have, but I can't find it. At least there's no apk with the name "news" on it.
Could it be "EReader" ??
No idea what happened but mine started working as well…

I wasn't able to get my feeds updated, and I couldn't even manage the feeds in the app, getting messages as "unable to unsubscribe" and "unable to change folder". Clearing the cache didn't work, so I cleared the data and ended up with exactly the same issue on my Desire Z as you describe.
I used OSMonitor to check the logs for the app and only then did it dawn on me that it syncs with Google Reader. Apparently, the current blank screen issue is caused by incorrect communication between Google Reader and the HTC News app:

Interestingly, disabling sync for News didn't help the situation and I'm wondering whether and how the HTC News app works without using a Google account.
Anyway, I logged into Google reader on my PC, marked everything up to a day ago as read. This again, did not change anything.
Just for the heck of it, I installed the Google Reader app (News sync still disabled), and gave it access to my account. Lo and behold, when I added the HTC News widget to my home screen, it showed me the proper list of subscriptions (from Google Reader) and it works as it should. Moreover, the HTC News app works again and shows me the right content!
In addition to the above, the widget indeed shows new items as the Google Reader sync is done (HTC News sync is still _disabled_). Now it's just a matter of waiting to see whether the widget not updating issues reoccur, but I'm guessing no
I really love htc news ,I think its got the best eye candy and function compared to all the market alternatives. But it has crashed twice and has fixed with 2nd hard reset. Does anyone know any way htc news can be reinstalled without having to hard reset!

Great discovery. Good thinking. Solved my problem. Do you know which one I sync, Google Reader or sync HTC News, to get the widget to refresh itself?
As an FYI this was fixed with the recent OTA update, or at least it was for me after the update.
I have also had this problem for a while now. Just oday I figured that HTC News wasnt conecting to Google Reader acount so I instaled NewsRob and linked it to my Google Reader account. Now HTC News seems to have reconnected to my Google Reader acount and is successfully updating. Gonna uninstall NewsRob as I like te HTC News app.
Alsp havent bothered updating to the latest OTA as I wanna keep my Eng Boot and full Root.

I'm actually syncing both at the moment, without any noticed adverse effects. TBH, I think they both sync the same data, so either could work (not sure, though).

When reader and news are enabled at the same time, reader will overwrite modifications from news next time it syncs. At least I get a message notification about this when starting news app.
For me I disabled reader sync and just use the news widget & app.

Hi guys.
My HTC One X stopped updating locations in the HTC weather widget even though it is checked in the menu and there is WIFI connection.
Any Ideas guys?
Google location services must also be turned for that.
Nop... That's on as well
Don't worry about it just yet. The HTC locations service misbehaves sometimes. It might come back.
If you wanted to, you could clear the data from the weather and location service apps and reboot and see if it starts working after a while.

Yeah... i asked this because i was having this issue since yesterday but it seems to be working fine since last 3-4 hours.
Thanks guys,

Hi,
I seem to have the same or a similar problem. If I keep GPS turned off then my location gets reported correctly on the weather widget. However, if I turn on GPS for locations then it gets messed up and changes to "Current location".
The only way to get it to recover is to stop the HTC Locations service and clear its data. Then reboot the phone.
This is a real pain as I use the GPS quite a lot for mapping etc.
Does anyone know if there is a way to stop this happening in the first place?
Thanks.

Chk thi out buddy..mit work for u as well..worked for my HTC OneV..though location sercive still is an issue...
anyways go thru this..
1. I changed the app to home location. And of course it said home location was set until I got to the main screen where it still had an old location where I traveled to a few days earlier.
2. I took out the battery turned power back on. Still same problem.
3. Then I pressed down and held my weather clock widget on my main page and dragged it to the garbage.
4. Went to the main screen, found and empty spot and held down for the widgets to appear.
5. Scrolled to the clock widget, chose the weather clock combo again.
6. Chose my home location.
7. Looked at the main screen and WHOALA! It was working again.
8. Note that in my situation I did not have to uninstall the app.
another alternative...
Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications.
Then go to 'All' and scroll down to 'HTC Weather sync provider'.
Select 'Clear Data'.
Then Select 'Force Stop'.
Then go to your home screen and restart the weather app by tapping under the time and then update the weather. The weather should now be available on the homescreen.
Anyone else having problems with the HTC weather not syncing recently?
I've recently had trouble with using Google as the provider for Beautiful Widgets. It's fine since changing to Accuweather!

I don't suppose this will apply to yours; but I have a rooted sensation, and I decided that the "HTCLocationsWidget3d.apk" was surplus to requirement.
This is needed for the weather; upon reinstalling the file the locations updated correctly.
Hello
I am facing the same problem as ppl described here and all over the android and htc forums. None of this works for me. Or no. It works for couple of hrs, a day maybe and then again goes back to Current Location.
The interesting thing is when the weather stop to update my location, facebook wont find me also. But Sygic works fine, Google maps also. Having this in mind I can say that my GPS works fine. So the problem is in HTC/Google things.
