without restarting the phone. Is it possible? If not I need another music player app because it's lame to restart the phone each time I add a new title.
Im not sure, but I do have a workaround.
Just play the song using a file manager, and the music app will pick it up for indexing.

what if I add 100 new titles? No really, they only need one additional button to reindex! Functionality exists only the user interface lacks one button! So htc why such suffering?
How are you adding the files? Do you just drag and drop onto the SD card? If so the card gets rescanned as soon as you switch back from Disk Drive mode. If it's not then there's a problem.
For example if you connect via USB you have the options to charge only, sync, see it as a disk drive or use the device as a modem. If you see it as a disk drive the SD card is unmounted from the phone until you've finished. Then it's mounted and rescanned.

no it's not. You can put some files into a mp3/some_subfolder and restart the phone. Then start the music app and then rename this some_subfolder. The app is f-ed up. OK maybe unmounting the sdcard and remounting it is a workaround but it's dirty one.
ps I mount sdcard in a unix environment and do copy files. Then I switch back to inet sharing.

I'm trying to figure out how to use Active Sync to use the file sync, but to my storage card instead of the default location on the phone.
Is there a way to do this?
Thank you,
Tim
Found my own answer by searching the forums...but of course.
Anyways, for those who might be curious. The answer was to download the freeware version of MobSync at http://www.pdagold.com/software/detail.asp?s=454
I was worried whether it would work with the HTC S620/S621 because it only speaks of PPC in their details. But it actually runs only on the PC and works perfectly.
This will allow me to download podcasts using iTunes and then have them copied over to the Storage Card using MobSync. Before I was clicking on explore, storage card, etc. and manually copying them each time. This will save me a number of steps.
Thank you,
Tim

The method I use that outerdepht told me was that after syncing with your pc , just use your windows explorer on your computer to view your mobile device , after that just find your storage card file and drop whatever file you want in it.
Yes, that's what I was doing and is fine for adding songs here and there, and it's not a momentous task to copy files over in that manner.
But I listen to daily podcasts and my new method expedites the process. Now I can run itunes, have it update my podcasts. It will download to their default folders. I then just connect my htc dash and click on mobsync to copy the files over to the storage card. Alot less fuss for something that you update frequently.
Thank you,
Tim

Nope it didn't come with a CD, it's on the MicroSD card Plug the Desire into your computer in Hard Disk mode and you can install it. I'm sure it should be available online though
hmmm i remember the option of things to choose comming up on pc before, dosnt come up anymore :S, jsut charges and i cant do anything else
If you swipe down the status bar and press charging you should be able to change it?
hmmm doesnt say charging on the notifications bar, :S , its definatly charging, this is strange, i was def getting it before lol
That's quite odd! I'm not sure what to suggest then.. but if you do manage to change it you'll be sorted

Do not format the SD Card, it will wipe the HTC Sync executable installation file.
Do you have USB debugging enabled?
1. From the Home screen, press MENU, and then tap Settings > Applications > Development.
2. Make sure the USB debugging check box is selected.
You can always download HTC Sync from http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownloadList.aspx?p_id=312&act=sd&cat=3
ok iv installed htc sync from that link, and i done the usb debug option, it now connects, installs a load of stuff, but i cnt access the drive through My Comp and on HTC sync it says "disconnected"

Try turning off the phone and turn it back on again while connected to the PC via the USB cable, and then select the Disk Drive option.
What version of Windows are you running? Is it 32/64 bit?

No problem Bud, glad that worked.
If I remember correctly, just create a Music folder in the root of your SD card and create folders within that folder.
e.g. Storage Card\Music\Chris Brown\[the mp3 file]
To store video files, create a new folder called DCIM, and then create another folder within that called 100MEDIA, and place picture files and video files within that.
The structure will be Storage Card\DCIM\100MEDIA\[picture file] for pictures, and Storage Card\DCIM\100MEDIA\[video file] for videos.

Hey I am new to Android and have had my Play for over a month now.
Can anyone tell me how to access my SD cards' data, I am just see what is in it?
I came to this halt the day I had to send a PDF from my phone; stored in SD, to my computer.
These are the things I have tried.
1. Find that PDF in the QuickOffice and hold it for a second, but the options screen that appears doesn't show any option for sending via Bluetooth.
2. Secondly, I tried the same by accessing that PDF through Adobe Reader, still all in vain.

Just download a file manager off the market, It will give you access to all the non protected partitions on your device

hook your phone up to your computer using the micro usb cable, in the notification area, you'll have an option to connect to pc, turn it on, after that, open up windows explorer and your sd card will be mounted like a thumb drive in your computer.

Cant get google music to save all my songs locally, have tried to create a link to the external sd which shows up with my 24gb free, but it always fails and says "cannot download music at this time, will try again later"
Any suggestions?
Are you downloading to your computer and your phone is connected via USB? If so, download it to a folder on your computer, then drag and drop it into the folder you want it to be in on the phone.

You may have too many devices on your account. This happened to me and it wouldn't let me save locally. Just had to go into my account and delete a few old devices. Worked fine after that.

This worked perfectly for me. Let me know if you have any questions or help getting it working. Basically it uses root explorer to create a symlink. Note that the directions will actually delete you google music cache and offline music. So you'll have to recache/download everything. If you don't want to do that you can always copy the files folder to the sd card, then do the clear data, and then create the symlink. Let me know if you need more precise help.

Thanks. It starts to download music then says cant download right now. Any ideas why? The link is created properly.
This whole time it has been getting stuck on a couple songs, currupted files I would assume. All is well now.
So just for reference if I flssh a new rom and create the link I wont have to redownload it all?

How fast is your card? I am using the Sandisk Ultra UHS-I 64gb and had no problems downloading any music. I am unsure why you are getting the error downloading files. When you go into Music and click on 'choose on device music', do you see the free space for your external SD card? If you do it should have worked properly. I've read in other forums that they recommend that you don't let your screen go to sleep when music is downloading. Maybe that's it? I also had this weird bug where music would kind freak out if I started playing a song and then pressed the home button to do other things while listening to music. Like when I went back into the Music app to fast forward, the album art disappeared and the music scroll bar froze. What I ended up doing is rebooting the phone. And that resolved my issue. Maybe a reboot will help you with the downloading problem?
And you are correct, if you flash a new rom, and make the link before you open google music, you shouldn't have to redownload. At least this is my understanding of it. I have yet to try. As soon as Cleanrom w/ Multiwindow comes out, I am going to try it, so i will let you know then. If that doesn't work I have a theory that I will try. Basically, making a link of the entire com.google.android.music folder in the data/data directory. Maybe that will be better cuz there are other files besides the files folder that is created. It's just that the music files are stored there. but it looks like other important files are in there like the database files and others. I have a feeling that I'm gonna need to do this to prevent having to download each time I flash a new rom. I will keep you posted.

Yeah. I have a uhs-1 card. It just hangs on a few songs. The same skmgs that whem I try to stream say they csnt be streamed. So I have been deleting them when this happens. I am almost done downloading my 13gb of music, lol.
Please do let us know how the new rom goes.
Edit: May have did it wrong but I updated from CR 2.1 to 3.0 frsh install made the link, but google showed no songs on device. Maybe I will open play music and then make the link after it loads. Next update and see how it goes.

As it turns out, I was right. You need to symlink the entire com.google.android.music fold for it to survive rom flashes. Just symlinking the files folder does save the music files to your external sd card but other needed files like database and what not are still on the internal card and therefore flashing a new rom deletes those essential files. So try symlinking the entire com.google.android.music folder. It worked for me and if you flash a new rom remember to remake the symlink before opening Google Music.
*EDIT*
It appears symlinking the entire com.google.android.music folder only worked temporarily. After a while I noticed my Play Music app just disspeared from my drawer. I had to delete the symlink and copy the folder back over to my internal storage and reboot to get it to come back. Hmm. I think the only thing you can really do is symlink the files folder only so that way the large music files do get saved to your external storage. And anytime you decide you want to reflash your phone, make sure you backup the com.google.android.music folder before you do so. Then flash your rom. Copy that folder back to your internal storage and recreate the symlink for your files folder. That should do the trick.

Whenever I plug my Note 2 into my PC and try to open My Computer it hangs, because it is thinking/doing something.
I thing the reason might be the number of mp3 files I put on the external SD card, because if I unmount it and then plug it in there is no problem. Maybe it is scaning it first?
It is very annoying. Any ideas?
Have you tried to insert the card directly in your computer? Maybe that can give you a hint about the issue.

I have - no problem.
I also used the SGS3 UMS app to activate USB Mass Storage and again no problem.
I am almost certain that problem lies in the stupid MTP mode. Maybe Windows scans the sdcard when the phone is connected, because after around a minute the explorer unfreezes and I can work with it.
I would delete the big folder of mp3s and see what happens.
Like I thought the problem was the big folder full of mp3s. I deleted it and now the phone opens instantly on my PC. I have to investigate further if the cause is a particular mp3 file or maybe the one .flac file I have thrown in there.
