HTC sync or HTC stink - Desire General

...erm actually i think htc are brilliant. however i was just trying to use a stupid pun to draw your attention to a rather mundane but horrifically annoying problem.
htc sync wont work. i'm running windows xp and have installed htc whilst most of the AVG virus features were turned off. i cant get the computer to recognise the drive or anything. any ideas what the problem could be?

Smooth sync with outlook

Im going to get my htc hd tomorrow, and wonder wich is the easiest way to sync my phone with outlook. I want to sync with calender and email not contacts.
Sync should be like, Home Computer <-> Phone <-> Work .
If i make a change somewhere all 3 should be updated,
I run mobileme now and thinks it works great. So something like that would be great.
Any ideas?
If you use VISTA, use the integrated Mobile Device center to sync, it is an updated version of Active Sync wich you should download when u use XP. Both are from Microsoft and are free and easy to use. When connecting your HD touch the first time, you can easly set up what you want to sync.
Perfect, i try that tomorrow.
A small tip:
When I first tried to sync through Mobile Device Center, it didn't recognize my HD. Turned out it was my Vista that I never update (I have my reasons ). After I donwloaded and installed all updates, Mobile Device Center instantly recognized with my phone.
That's right! But I think Vista wil auto update the driver needed for the HTC when you connect your device...
I'm having a problem with this. I run my laptop on Vista, but when I connect my Touch HD the laptop seems to know that it's there but the Windows Mobile doesnt and I can't connect or pair my phone.
HELP PLEASE! I don't know how I can get it to work! Thanks in advance.
Cindy
i'm having the same problem cindy but with my pc running vista after i installed the new rom on my HD from the htc site did you solved it already?
thanks louis

Vista Home not working with HTC Sync

I have Vista Home and I installed HTC Sync using the .exe file that was inside the SD card supplied with the phone. But I have no joy getting this to work and so I cannot sync my Outlook contacts and calendar. The phone shows "cannot find HTC Sync on your PC and.. etc" When I looked into Control Panel/Device Manager I can see that there is a big yellow exclamation mark under Android USB Devices which reads "Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)".
Any joy from anyone to sync your contacts and calendar ? thanks Peter
of course it works, take the .exe and right click on it & choose properties...
you now see a tab "compatibility" en you can choose to run it as XP with service pack 2 ...
now it have to work properly.
Its very usefull onces you know it.
otherwise you can look for the programm "the missing sync for android"
good luck
Are you using the latest version of Sync - same as that available from HTC's website? I'm running Vista Home Premium x64 without compatibility and it's running fine.
After installing HTC Sync on the PC, you also have to switch the Desire from charge mode or USB disk mode to HTC Sync mode. Failing that, have you got a firewall/AV package which could be blocking it?
same issue
I've got exactly the same problem, did you fix yours? any tips?
HTC Desire Sync Problems
I'm new here so forgive any duplication.
I am having the same problems with the HTC Sync .exe, Vista Home Basic and the Device driver incompatability.
It has been a while since the last post to this thread and I was wondering if anyone has found a solution to the above problems. I hope so as it is driving me mad
Hi, I bought my Desire last Saturday, and it synched flawlessly with my Windows7 64bit notebook.... but that is not my pc -_-
My pc is a Vista Home Premium 32 bit, and I encountered the same exact problems that some mentioned in this thread... did any solution come out to solve it? Or Vista HP 32 owners are going to be disappointed?
Sorry for the double post, but I think I have good news
Trying again after I updated to Vista Service Pack 1, the "My HTC" device was installed perfectly, and connecting the phone to an USB port on the rear of the PC, the sync worked as a charm
I hope this will be helpful to someone, bye!
I also have a problem with HTC Sync on my laptop running vista 32 bit. I've installed it in the past but when it's installed it seems to interfere with my internet connection, basically slowing the connection down, it's as if it's stopping then starting over and over again. For example if im downloading or using youtube it will download a bit then hang for a couple of minutes or hang forever. Then when i uninstall Sync the internet is fine again.
To be honest i don't really use Sync but i'd like the option to be able to use it without messing up my internet.
Any ideas as to why this might be happening?

Desire won't detect HTC Sync on the PC

I've spent the last few hours googling and I still can't figure this out.
I'm getting the "Unable to find HTC Sync on your PC". Message
Running 64-bit Win 7, I've tried
- both the SD card version and the new version of HTC Sync
- Firewall & windows defender are off (no other firewall / antivirus).
- Every combination of switch PC off, plug phone in. Switch phone on, then attach cable, phone off, attach cable after etc type of thing.
- Rebooted & Reinstalled multiple times.
- Copied driver files into sys32 folder
- MY HTC Sync loaded before/after plugging cable in
- The usb drive/charging functions work so it's not the connection, Just won't detect HTC sync.
While I would appreciate help fixing this, my main concern now is I have my contacts on my pc in csv (and outlook) and would like to get them onto my phone asap.
It's getting quite frustrating so any help would be greatly appreciated !
Not that this will help, but I'm running W7 x64 Ultimate and had my Desire in sync using the new version first time...didn't do anything special, it just worked
I finally gave in and loaded all my contacts to gmail and synced my phone with that to get the contacts in...
However I still need to get HTC sync to work !
I can not get HTC Sync to detect my phone either, it's on WinXP in virtualbox. It doesn't seem like I'm missing out on much but it would be nice for it to work!

Spoke to soon, mine won't find it now either - only thing changed is moving to Office 2010, sods law its not compatible!!
EDIT: that's exactly it, d'oh!!! the downside to staying ahead of the game tech wise

I'm running office 2010 and it syncs perfect
Reading the other thread, I guess there's no real need for it anyway.
My only (somewhat paranoid) concern with linking it to gmail is I may accidentally hit delete or something on my phone and it'll wipe my gmail account data

Did you have Office 2010 on the PC before installing Sync?
I thinks it is Office 2010 64 Bits dont work but 32 bits works
d'oh, I'm using Office 2010 x64!! Serves me right being all 64-bit!!

I don't see how Office 2010 affects it?
I haven't got Office and it doesn't work for me.
Nor do I but this is the only change I've made from it working to not - been fine until the change to 2010

No luck with HTC Sync

After trying quite a LARGE number of different things to get several different versions of HTC sync to work I am still at square one.
I cannot for the life of me get my Desire to sync with my PC. This is nothing new I had the same problem with a Hero and after 6 months of trying with that gave up completely.
IS there any any to get HTC Sync to actually work?
Most of the time my Desire will show that it is in USB debug mode but will not ask about connection type and it most certainly doesn't even launch the sync app.
If it does launch the sync app it then shows disconnected.
If it detects the pc at all then it says htc sync cannot be detected.
I only evergot it to sync once on the day I got it and it buggered up all my contacts and calendars be triplicating or quadrupling items.
Any suggestions would be helpful as I am about to give up with the Desire and go back to my Touch Pro.
EDIT: Bythe way I have searched and none of the suggestions have worked one bit. And most are about Win7.
I also gave up trying. Bought Gsyncit to sync contacts and notes. I use Google Calendar Sync. Never need to connect Desire to PC.
Same problem here. Just doesn't sync. Never has - rooted or unrooted.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Well, you are not the only ones. I can't sync either.
I got it working on the very first day but not since then.
When I connect my Desire to PC and select the sync option HTC sync does not start at all and if I try to run it manually I get a message that the application is not installed correctly etc etc.
Tried reinstalling and rebooting several times... gave up in the end.
I sync my contacts and calendars with my Gmail account...
Add my name to the list.
Sync'd before I loaded the stock ROM but hasn't worked since.
I've spent far too many hours now trying to fix it.
I just sync OTA with google and use appsinstaller for non market apps.
I would like to get it working though if anyone has a defininative answer.
I had a lot of problems as well with PC sync. Seems that a lot people too according to the number of posts about this.
I've solved my problem very easily, though I think I could have found that solution earlier..
Well I got some front usb ports on my PC, as well as on my screen... PC sync was not working. I gave a last try directly on the USB ports behind the PC (basically the ones directly linked to the motherboard) and worked like a charm!
You might try this as on my side the problem was clearly the USB plugs...

That's good thinking but on my laptop it doesn't make any difference to which USB port I connect my Desire to.
I think my problem is in the SW itself. HTC Sync just can't be installed correctly to my computer. It did the first time but after it stopped working I just can't install it properly anymore. And I am 100% sure I didn't change anything in the meantime.

[Q] HTC Sync problem

Hello to everyone, I know that there are lots of 3d on HTC Sync, but I can't find yet a solution for my problem: when I connect my Desire, HTC Sync starts and try to sync, but after a few seconds, Autoplay comes up and wants to open the SD card on the phone and Windows tell me that there's a problem withe the disk and ask me if I want to correct it...
If I restart HTC Sync it says that on my phone there is not any SD card...
Someone had the same issue? Any idea?
OS is Windows 7 64 bit, Phone is Desire Froyo no root.

Have you definitely set your phone to use "HTC Sync" mode when it's connected to your computer? When connected, you drag down your notifications bar from the top of your Desire screen and make sure you select "HTC Sync" mode from the list.
It's pretty simple the phone mounts the SD-card even though you choose sync so HTC sync can't access it via the phone.
This can have several causes, but the most usual one is having an app like Winamp, which forces this behavior by default. You can probably turn the setting off but I'd rather remove the app altogether.
Hi, and thanks for the replies
@ e-ignite: Yes, I chosed "HTC Sync" option on USB connection.
@ mortenmhp: Probably your answer is the key-problem, 'cause happens the same on another PC that has Vista 32 bit with with administrator rights (Other one has user rights). The strange behaviour is that when HTC Sync starts, it check for the PC installation, PC one starts too, try to sync and end a false sync, after a few starts autoplay. So at the beginning of the entire process it seems to work, and something happen afer HTC Sync is started... I'll check apps on the Desire.
