Hi all, I got my Desire from T-Mobile UK a few days ago and when I first got it it used to make a noise while starting up and shutting down (Admittedly the shutdown sound was getting interrupted by the device switching off halfway through the sound being played lol).
Anyway I have been playing with it a bit and reset back to factory settings a few times (just been experimenting to find out how I'd like to personalise it best for me) and now I have noticed that these sounds are no longer playing even after a fresh factory reset. Anyone know why?
Sorry folks, ignore that. I just shut down and got the sound (with it's usual interruption). I didn't get a sound after the reset though and still am not getting a startup sound.
Maybe there never was one and I'm imagining things? Must be going senile in my old age lol
Does anyone know if it's possible to delay the shutdown a bit so that the sound plays completely before the device switches off? I'm new to Android!
Did you enable the SD Card notifications? I have a feeling it's the notification of the SD Card getting unmounted but the phone turning off cuts it off before it finishes?
Can you turn the startup sound off? It's annoying.
No but you can put it on silent before you turn off and it won't make a noise when you next turn it on?

Second time I've noticed this coming upstairs with my phone in my pocket, when I got up, I went to turn the phone off, unlocked the screen and "pfftpt"
then I turn it off, and instead of the jingle I get another "pfpft"
Strange, because the exact same thing happened to me yesterday. Could it have been the new firmware update? Anyone else experience something like that? Seems pretty crazy.
So this time, I went to use my phone and when I woke it, the rear speaker started making white noise, much like a stereo when you don't get any signal.
Instead of doing much, I tried messing with the sounds and nothing really happened - attempting to play music just caused it to semi-freeze, but I could still get around it. So I let it sit some more, and then the phone started making really loud funky noises.
So I pulled the battery and restarted it. Now the sound is working fine. I think I'm going to try reinstalling from scratch. Currently everything is stock firmware and the latest update to get multiwindow.
While in phone conversation I often use a speaker. For a last few weeks I have a problem. After few minutes the speaker shuts off and the phone goes to the standard (non speaker) mode. This causes of course problems because the other party can talk and if my phone is resting on the desk I cannot hear them. I haven't noticed any pattern yet but is seems like it takes about 3-5 min to turn off. This is standard phone (no root) but I have plenty of Apps. No sure what might have caused that. I was thinking about restoring to the factory setting or rooting, but this will require running some backups, etc and I really do not have time for that right now. I would appreciate any suggestions.

I've been running into a issue lately with my phone and my research has turned up nothing so I thought I'd post here. For some reason, every night my phone automatically turns on silence mode around the same time. Originally I thought it happened because of me accidentally hitting the volume buttons, but I have made it a point to make sure the the phone isn't in silence mode before putting it down and it still happens during the evening. It started happening after I upgraded Lollipop and after doing some research thought it happened due to the new interruption settings, but it still happens even after "Downtime Days" is set to "None".
I am running the stock ROM rooted. I have looked into the apps I use and none of them should be able to set the phone to silent automatically. I'm trying to fix this without doing a factory reset if only because I'm worried it won't fix the problem. If anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it.
I had the weirdest thing happen to me this morning...
I have a fitbit that has my alarm set so it went off and woke me up a little...
I laid there waiting for my phone alarm to go off, but it didn't.
I looked at it and it was in stock Android Recovery and had 2 options...
(It said something like "Android may be corrupted and if you cannot access Android, you may need to factory reset)
Option 1 was to reboot
Option 2 was to Factory reset
I selected option 1 and it started to boot, got to the Google emblem and all of sudden it starting making this loud ringing sound (a sound I haven't heard) and would not stop... After hitting every button on the phone, it powered off like I turned the phone off and went right back to the same Android Recovery screen...
At that point I just factory reset and here we are...
Anyone ever experience this?
Anyone know what the heck happened? Lol
Thanks
Hey, I wanted to know how can i fix my speakers.
After Keeping my phone idle for some time ,
for like 1-2 hours the speakers just stop working as in, they "start" to work if put in my charging cable,
then that charging up sound makes the speakers start working again.,
so after that,
i use my phone for some time and keep it aside.
And the next time i pick my phone the speaker isn't working.
I've missed all my calls, the media doesn't play, like everything that should make sound isn't.
So restarting makes them come alive again and the charge method, but now after few times even putting it on charging cable doesn't seem work. Also, I've noticed the System UI to be lagging a lot, to a point that it can't keep up with locking/unlocking the phone.
[UPDATE]: Now I've to restart the phone to make them work *every time* I want to use my phone's speaker, they just work for like couple of minutes after restarting and stop working completely agian.

I had faced a similar problem. But in my case, the speakers and headphone jack stopped working for a couple of days. I've did all I could like booting to safe mode, restarting and all but nothing helped.
So when I was just about to take it to the service centre, the speakers miraculously started working in the middle of a call when I by mistakenly turned on the speaker.
I was like dumbstruck and still didn't understand what the problem was...
