OK, so this never seemed to be the case before, but when I check my battery use details, Maps always seems to be the biggest eater of battery. Even when I haven't even used the app. For example, as of right now, Maps has used 40%, while Cell Standby is 25% and Android System - 18%
what gives? has anyone else noticed this? why would this be? or maybe it's a function of my ROM?

I've seen this too, but it doesn't seem to actually be eating my battery life. It was happening on and off in CM6 (froyo), but now that I'm on CM7 nightlies, I have not seen it happen for some time.
ok, maybe I won't worry about it then, since I'll definitely be switching to CM7 when it's officially released.
Seems to happen on maps 5.0 if you can uninstall the update and go back to 4.5
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I'm running Cyanogen Mod 6.1 and Google Maps 5.0.
When I do use the maps or navigation, I do notice that the battery drain is quite significant. Its not a big deal though because I don't use it that often and have a car charger.
Just out of curiousity, are you using the stock Email app? I had mine setup with my work email and for some reason whenever I would access it, it would launch a handful of apps in the background as well (Gmaps, Market, XDA, FML, WeatherBug). I tested it many times. I would force close those apps and anytime I opened Email they would all be running again.
I switched to K9 mail and haven't had the issue occur again...
I don't know if it's been posted yet (I didn't see it in the first three pages of the forum nor in similar threads section), but Google Maps just released an update that promises improved battery life for users who use background locations.
Google Maps is one of the biggest battery-eaters on Android phones due to background processes and location services, so an update to Google Maps might make a noticeable improvement for some users.
It's too early to tell if it has made any difference yet, but I just figured I'd let you all know about it
Never had any issues with Google Maps draining battery, but updates are always nice
My Google maps always seems to show in the recent apps on my gnex. Will be interesting to see if this helps!

The battery issue is apparent if you use location history and Latitude.
I am seeing a huge improvement. Overnight my phone went from 100% to 80% in 9 hours, with Maps using 7% of the battery, when normally it uses about 15-20%. I use Latitude and Location history as my "Find my Phone" feature.
I've also flashed the SC04DOMLA1 radio on to the device which also seems to be helping greatly.

Google Maps is the biggest battery-draining default app on Android. This is because it's used for variety of location services in the background. Of course if you turn background location services off then it won't affect your battery life as much.
It's great that they updated this though since I do use Latitude with closest friends frequently.
I installed the new maps last night, and I tested out the battery consumption. Tasker sets the phone to airplane mode for 6 hours every night while I sleep, and my battery (which should be calibrated) went from 100% to 98% over 7 hours. I'll see how it fares at work today, but so far I'm pretty happy. I really like latitude, but I was pretty close to disabling it because of the battery drain.
This I'd always in does anybody know what this is?

long story to short - 1013 is a media server process.
I'm getting the same problem, how did you solve the problem?
I am having this same issue, different device, but this is the first thread I found with the issue.
Have you been listening to music?

Had anyone figured out what this is? I have not been listening to music at all.

Media is pretty unspecified, could be pictures, videos, not just music
I have it too on my Verizon s4, just installed Google experience launcher and new search on it today, hadn't seen it before... running bone stock otherwise. 4.3.
Edit, turned off ok Google listening... haven't seen it since, at least today.

We have got the same problem with Galaxy Note 3, stock rom, rooted. At some point in the night, this *overflow* starts to keep the phone awake and uses 40% of battery in less than 3 hours.
There is no widget on any homescreen.

Better Battery Stats or Wakelock Detector will help you to figure out what app(s) are causing it.

Unfortunately Wakelock Detector doesn't show anything uncommon. I deinstalled Spotify and Quizduell Premium, rebooted the phone again - and the problem seems to be gone.
This really is strange behaviour and Android should by now be able to find out those problems by itself. This reminds me of Windows, which after over a decade still struggles with problems and you have to install tools to solve them - or reinstall the whole system.
Hi, I know this is an older thread but I've been having the same problem recently and I tried to Google a solution to the problem and found this thread. I too have had high battery drain from Google Services. The phone is basically awake at all times. GSAM Battery Monitor lists *overflow* as the main culprit.
I have location services turned off and I turned off syncing of all accounts except for Gmail. I uninstalled all updates to Google Services and any apps associated with it. I have rebooted the phone multiple times. I'm pretty sure I've tried every battery saving tip I can possibly find and nothing seems to solve the problem. Every now and then I'll get a day of amazing battery life and think my problems are behind me; then it will go back to the same terrible battery life without me changing any settings or changing the way I use the phone.

Have you tried turning mobile data and/or Wi-Fi off when not in use?
:good: My v10 had been suffering from batter drain ever since i got my phone last year. I kept looking up information about other peoples problems and how mine differed from theirs. Aside from doing the basic phone setting tweaks, rooting, and greenify my battery life still suffered. I came across an app called Gservicefix from the play store and it increased my battery life by alot. Normally i would get around 2 hours to 2 1/2 hours SOT with my normal use like listening to music, youtube, facebook, intagram, (would be snapchat but cant seem to get it to work) browsing the web. Now i get 2 hours SOT with 30% battery used. I will post a picture if permitted with my battery life and SOT after more use. For those who are looking for something else to try because it can not hurt I say download the app and do what it tells you to do which is simple.
the app is called Gservicefix
it will ask that you have a full charge 100% and cord plugged in just FYI then follow the instructions and see if it works for you.

As quoted from the Play Store: "After using app. turn off gps and sync to save battery according to usage."
It will take couple of times to work depending on os version. Its a workaround for the battery drain bug caused by Services / OS / System. *Tested on limited devices only . Services are the background tasks on devices that keeps all of the company's services in sync and updated. This covers basic environment, among other services which results in heavy battery drain of your device."
So if you have to turn off gps and sync and turn them on when needed, then why do I need to install the app? Just turn on and off gps and sync and get the same results, no?
it is a work around for the battery drain. after using it i found out that if you remove the battery you would have to do the process all over which can be a hassle if your in a rush. The app did work for me but i since found a better solution that i will post in a the general forum.

What was your better solution?
Use Naptime, a greenify like app, but more suitable for V10.

last few days i have a ridiculous battery drain from androidos - this is new
no new programs installed
on 7.1.1 stock
anyone else have similar experience>?
Doesn't seem to matter what version you're on or what phone. If it has android Google will eventually target you for some data/battery drain. Mine went from 100% to 59% over night doing nothing - this is on a Nexus 6 runniong 6.0.1. I usually only drop 3%-10% at night, but every once in a while i get hit with the google tax.
There is a lot of news around about a bad update sent out by Facebook and Facebook Messenger that are causing battery drain issues. If you use these apps you may want to uninstall, restart and then reinstall to clear out the issue.

Facebook Messenger destroyed my battery yesterday. I opened the app twice and it caused 20%+ battery drain between charges. Guess that really shouldn't be a surprise given the developer...

To my knowledge, there's really no way to troubleshoot wakelocks without root and Wakelock Detector. I used it and was able to identify nlpcollectorwakelock as my biggest problem. Other smaller ones were identified as well. This was all because my device was awake 100% of the time and Google Play Services were eating majority of the battery. I don't know specifically about the drain on androidOS, but the first step I would take would be root + Wakelock Detector.

Are you on the January security update? I've read a few posts about androidOS battery drain and they seem to all be on the Jan update. I'm still on the Dec. update. Maybe over the weekend, I'll update and see if I can replicate your issue and find what's causing the drain since I will be rooted
