Hi.
I am new to Android and need your help.
I can not find files or file manager in the apps confused.
do I need to download anything to be able to do this?
And I do not know how to install apps if I copy one from my mac to the phone.
Lastly, I also do not understand why my mac can not see the folders of the phone even though it is connected via usb.
Finally, I tried to transfer data via bluetooth, but again I did not manage.
It says time over or something I do not know.
It looks very basic, but I need your help.
Please , help.
There is no default file manager. Most people will never need one.
If you want one, search the market for one, there are dozens. Astro is very popular.
to install ones you copy over, you need to go to home>menu>settings>applications
tick the box to 'allow unknown sources'
then, in whichever file manager you download, open the APK file on the card and it should install.
You can only browse the files of the SD card. the phone memory is system memory and protected. you do not eed to access it. All storage is done by the memory card, not the phone memory.
Bluetooth functions are limited on android. you can send files (as long as they are files the phone supports i believe) but you cannot use isync or anything like that.
If you want more sophisticated sync options for android, have a look at the missing sync for android at www.markspace.com
simples.
Thanks.
I downloaded Astro and it seems nice.
Now I can see how it works little bit.
Thanks for your help.

I periodically go into modes in which I need to clean clean clean my computers and gadgets and I was wondering if there was an app or something out there to detect which of my installed programs have been installed on the Storage Card and which have been installed on the Device.
I'd basically like to find what I truly need to install on the Device and reinstall everything else on the Storage Card to save Device disk space.
Thanks in advance for any tips.
Don't quote me on this, but I think DinarSoft MemMaid has something like this. I had it at one time on an old phone of mine. I seem to remember not only having this functionality, but being able to change to and from the other storage (from Main-> Card and Vice verse).
It may have been program specific, but It's definatly worth looking into.
if you goto the following link and go down to "Storage Memory" (maybe a little more then 1/2 down the page), it says that it does have the ability to see "What and Where" things are installed.
http://www.dinarsoft.com/memmaid/details.html
Hope it helps.
I could be wrong but if you open File Explorer and look in the Programs folder on "My device" you'll see all stuff installed on device memory and if you look on your storage card there is also a Programs folder with all the programs installed there. Perhaps I misunderstood your question and this isn't helpful - in that case, sorry!

Actually this was the original problem. Programs installed on the memory card will not only put files in the Program Files folders on the Storage Card, but can also install some in the Device Program Files folder, the Device Documents and Settings folder and even in the Windows folders.
Someone from PPCGeeks recommended using SKTools to figure this out and behold: not only a way to see where the install folder is, but you can move it to the card from the device and vice-versa if wanted!
Hi all,
I am trying to get android to work on my old Tilt2 for my fiance so we can play games together. I've gone through all the steps by adding the correct files to the root of the storage card and running Haret. Every thing seems to work "fine" other than the fact that I can't see a storage card while in Android. I tried to partition my SD card to see if that would help but I am unable to determine the proper way to do that. Any help would be appreciated
Do you have some type of file manager installed on Android? I know that I could always see it, with the exception of the Android folder on my card.

I've said this 100x, not sure why it never shows up on people's searches...
But backup all the data on the card. Format the card (full format, FAT32) using the HP Tool. Restore all the data on the card after the format, or start over fresh doesn't really matter. Apps should now be able to see the card, etc.
I'm not concerned about apps seeing the storage card. I don't have a "My Files" app that will let me navigate the card. Do I need to download a file manager in order for it to work?
I fixed it.. I had to download a file management app I feel dumb now.
Which App?

Astro is pretty good, and is included in AndroidApps folder IIRC.

Amusingly, I use multiple file storage apps. Super Manager for making system files r/w, and file expert for the look and feel. I have astro too, on my other phone, but only really use it for enabling all file type downloads from the web.

hey guys,
My issue is that when I plug my s3 into the computer. When I access the SD card from the file explorer on the computer, it comes up with duplicate folders. Just wanted to see if anyone else is having this issue. However if i browse the files through astro on my phone it looks just fine. I'm running AOKP Build 4.
So I saw this & hoped there was some extra infoon tthis topic cause I had the exact same issue. It was agrivating because I didn't know which folder to save to. Some of the folders had different data in them
My solution? I put the sd card in a multi reader & poof - no duplicate files.
BAD NEWS
Now my phone doesn't know where to find the sd card. Oh, it reads & writes just fine. I can see it in SUFBS & Astro file manager, copy files to/from with ease. But go to the gallery & I only see the phone memory. Ring tones are only found in phone memory. Downloading from any Web browser & it only goes to internal storage & I can't point to ext sd, but sms backup & restore saves to it just fine. My friend thinks the drive letter got changed but I have no idea how to find or change that in the phone. I's sad.
Sgs T-999

Ive never seen this myself. But i only connect to my computer via usb when using Odin. For file transfers i use SwiFTP wireless transfer.
Search for sgs3 easy ums here on xda. Itll let you mount external sd as UMS rather than MTP which is probably whats causing it (maybe because you are non stock?).
Also you may have to reformat the card at this point. Not really sure about that though.
Sorry i dont have more for you, but in the future try those two apps i mentioned. Find Swiftp bt searching the themes and apps section.

Hi people
It seems that I can't get to certain folders in the Internal Storage folder when browsing the phone from the PC via USB. HTC Sync Manager can access it (one of the folders are the DCIM folder), but it doesn't allow me to browse there outside of HTC Sync Manager (does anybody even use that?). I've tried a few things in the past and didn't have time to struggle too much, so moved on with my life and worked around it, but it's really getting irritating. Unfortunately I can't remember what all I tried.
I'm pretty sure I've seen it working and I definitely didn't have that problem with my M7. Anybody have any suggestions? I'll provide specs below, but will provide whatever additional information is required.
Phone
HTC One M9 (stock)
Android version 5.1
Software number 2.10.401.1
Laptop
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 x64
Hey guys. Please, this is driving me out the walls.
Since the original post, I have had it once where all the folders were visible in explorer, but I can't see that I did anything different, except perhaps lingered longer before browsing to the phone. I've tried 'replicating' it, but to no avail.
Tried turning on USB Debugging for good measure and off again, no difference. Any hints whatsoever will be appreciated. Also, if there are any further details required, let me know and I'll post it.
Thanks
Try Xender, solid explorer or es explorer from playstore
The above apps provide you with option to browse your internal storage over Wi-Fi
If that didn't work..flash the latest TWRP for device
While boot in recovery try accessing your phone Storage

Hi ujere, thanks for the reply.
I really don't feel like I should need third party apps to access my DCIM folder on my phone. I use File Manager HD (have been for years) and can FTP and cloud and LAN and whatever, but it's not what I want to do in this instance. I really just want to quickly plug in a USB cable, since there's a ton laying around my desk plugged in at any given moment, browse my phone like a 'flash disk' and copy stuff. And it's possible, only, almost always my Internal Storage doesn't completely 'populate' on Windows Explorer. SD Card works 100%.
Do you have a .nomedia file on the sdcard between its root and the dcim folder?
Do you have htc sync installed?

Good day shivadow
I don't see any .nomedia files or folders in the root or the DCIM folder on either the internal memory or the SD card. I'm not entirely sure where you meant, so I checked all. I checked on the phone, not on Windows, as Windows doesn't show everything.
I have HTC Sync Manager installed. It always bugged me to want to install it when I plug in my phone if I don't have it. Annoying crappy bloatware!
Remove the htc sync manager as that causes all sorts of issues. If no joy then try "show hidden files" in folder options on your pc (vista +).

So, first time I plugged it in after uninstalling it works! Thanks! Man, I freaking hate bloatware and crap like that.
I'm just going to try it a few more times to make sure it's not a fluke, then come confirm and all that jazz.
And so, indeed, I've not had any problems as yet. Oddly enough, in the past it always hassled me to install Sync if it's not, but it has stopped doing it.
Thanks again and have a good one!
Like title says N8P doesn't let me to tranfer apk or exe files from PC to internal memory/SD neither through windows explorer or HiSuite. Tranfer start then stop after about 30-40%, phone disconnect and connect again to PC. For example I tried to tranfer a GCamera for N8P apk (from this forum) to SD card to install it. It's any protection somewhere i must remove it?
ThankYou!
My best guess is that your cable is damaged. Next would be something with HiSuite, however I can't comment on that since I never used this peace of software.
You could try:
- use adb for file transfer (if it still doesn't work cable damage)
- another cable
If you need to transfer an apk to your phone why don't you just download it directly to your phone. Unless you're developing yourself you should be able to get anything directly to the phone.
It's something with apk and exe files because I can transfer everything else. For example videos over 1Gb, pictures, anything. But if it's apk or exe it happens what I said even if have 20Mb
Sure, I can find other ways to do this. I did it through google drive. I just wander if it have any protection?
