It's the 5-pin one.
It's actually stated on the Desire's specs page on HTC.com
http://www.htc.com/www/product/desire/specification.html
Edit: My bad! As mentioned by below posters, it should be 5-pin micro USB

Both of the linked cabled say they're mini-USB, I'm fairly sure the Desire uses "Micro" USB (Even smaller ).
Still waiting on my Desire to arrive, but the HTC site says micro too.

neither will fit, as above you need micro usb leads.
i just bought a couple of blackberry data ones from ebay (very cheap)
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_..._nkw=micro+usb+data&_sacat=See-All-Categories

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nokia-CA-101-Micro-Data-Cable/dp/B000U6QPFI
I bought 2 of these ones and they seem to be pretty good. Even having a built in clip to wind up the cable.

I confirm, Nokia CA-101D cable is working fine with Desire

bought a blackberry data cable for my desire off ebay for 99p brand new free postage , came in a few days and works fine.
My advice search ebay for
MICRO USB DATA CABLE
highlight buy it nows
then click lowest price first, then thats where i found my 99pencer lol

I bought a cheap alternative usb cable to leave in work for charging, it lasted about 3 days till it packed in, same happened to a cheaper lead a mate bought.

Ive got loads of converters , eg the black berry ones... a few quid there fine ...

Mini USB extension cable?

I've bought one of the adaptors to allow normal headphones to be plugged into my XDA Orbit. What I'd like to do is plug a mini USB extension into the XDA then on the other end plug the adaptor in. Ideally it would be 2m long and obviously be male - female. The main reason is that my adaptor lets me charge my XDA up aswell and I don't want lots of cables in front of me. So i'll plug the extension in and run it into my glove compartment, were I'll plug in my fm transmitter and car charger.
Hope this makes sense, i've spent ages googling to try and find one but i've had no luck, any ideas?
I was also searching for one of these and failed. Post back here if you succeed.
Mini-USB extension cable
I found a single source at
http://www.pc-mobile.net/gugf.htm. It's item number CMUE about half way down the page.
I also found some folks who seem to be prepared to make almost anything at http://www.cypressindustries.com/contact/index.html

Mini USB extension cable
I had the same problems finding a mini usb extension. Then e-bay came to the rescue! This guy
http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/techno_toys/
has just what you need, a 1m long mini usb extension cable for less than £10.00 !
Cheaper and faster than waiting for it to arrive from Hong-Kong

Thanks all, google a mini usb extender and this was the first thing that came up. Can't believe these cables are so rare!
FYI my supplier was Keven from Techno Toys on ebay UK http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZtechno_toys
those links you posted don't have USB mini female to USB mini male.
I only need it to be 3 inches.
also, would that 3 in 1 work for my wizard?
Thanks!

This is a link to the current listing (as of 11 Feb 08):
mini usb extansion cable on e-bay
3 were listed, but 2 have already gone. They are 1.2m long too, not the 30cm that you need, but maybe you can cut/re-solder it? They are pretty rare though, so not sure I would risk it!

These wont carry the audio though. They are only 5 pin and carry data only. Ive got one of these cables and the 3 in 1 adaptor. The adaptor is extusb and has 11 pins, and this cable is regular usb with only 5 pins. Not only that, they dont actually fit together as a male extusb is a slightly different shape to the female regular miniusb. Obviously Female Extusb to male miniusb would work, but this cable is the wrong way round for that.
made my own
I was also looking for one to use in my car. Couldn't find any so I made one. Used a vga cable, cut the htc usb charger/2.5 headphone splitter that came with my touch, and soldered the cables together. I'll post pics tomorrow if i get a chance. Btw, i got lucky, because while trying to solder one of the last cables, the yellow cable that connects to the end of the 2.5 headphone jack came off. Luckily, it wasn't the cable that was for left or right channel.
I couldnt find an 11 core cable small enough to look good. VGA cable isnt too thick though... tempting.
pics of htc supplied usb to usb/2.5 extended
Nice, I wish i had soldering skills. everytime i try to solder, the solder never bonds.
I tried heating up the wirers, but the solder always bonds to the tip or combine with the solder coil again.

OK, sorry, I had used it OK with my Motorola phone, and that did the audio OK. Didn't realise there were more pins in the PDA cable.
11 pin extension cable
how many wires are needed for power and Stereo?
I am Guessing 1 for right, 1 for left, 1 for Power, and for ground. I am asking because I want to make my own, but I do not want a big diameter cable.
I have the 3 in 1 splitter, so it has everything I need except for length. Is a 4 wire cable all it really needs?
Anyone?...
Here is another source for Mini USB Extension
Man are these cables ever hard to find. I have been looking for such a cable for a long time since I recently found this other guy on ebay. He has 2m (6ft) and 3m (9ft) versions, all USB 2.0 compatible: kabelbaron on ebay I think he ships worldwide, too...
(I think you can also get to his recent items through http://www.kabelbaron.de).

They look like standard 5 pin extensions to me.
People in this thread are looking for extUSB extenders that have 11pins.

What works for me is to melt a tiny bit of solder on the tip, then touch that melted solder to the wires. It will transfer heat to the wires and you can add more solder from another angle. Wipe the tip on a wet sponge after every use. This leaves a thin layer of clean solder on the tip. If you let the tip go uncleaned for too long it turns totally black and conducts heat poorly. If you buy tip cleaner you can sometimes get the black off.
Also, if you have tiny things to connect and little space to work, put a bit of solder on both things first, then touch them together and the heat will transfer into both of them, melting them together. Keeping them steady after you pull the tip away is key to a strong join. If they're trying to pull apart as the solder cools, the solder will look more dull than shiny and be easy to break.
Also, be absolutely sure you get 63/37 (63% tin, 37% lead) solder instead of lead-free because lead-free doesn't melt till a much higher temperature and that's more likely to damage your electronics. Also, I could barely melt the lead-free solder with three different irons I tried and it was very hard to make it bond to things.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solder for more.

USB power uses a +5V and ground pin on the top row.
Audio uses 3 more pins along the bottom: left, right, and audio ground. There's also two mic pins along the bottom you might want to tap into.
See http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=ExtUSB
I found a good source for mini usb extensions of all kinds. This site really was the best site for USB and Firewire cables. I got mine today.
Edited: This cables are 5pin, just for data and power not for audio.

mini-usb to micro-usb converter

Has anyone bought a cheap mini-usb to micro-usb converter online that works?
My old phone uses mini-usb and I have a cable and charger I would like to use for my arc. I bought a converter on ebay but the micro-usb part is too short so I'm not able to charge my arc.
Any input would be much appeciated!
Yeah, bought two from e-bay @ 1£ each. I had 2 mini-usb wall-chargers left over that I wanted to use. Charging is OK and using the adapter with a mini-usb cable to connect to the computer works fine.

[Q] Does this Nokia cables work with SGS II?

I found this Nokia cables for N8, and they are cheaper than Samsung cables, and i wonder if someone tested them?
Nokia Adapter for HDMI CA-156
Nokia Adapter Cable for USB OTG CA-157
HDMI one does not work.
Don't know about the other, but I think others have already posted about it in the existing threads on the topic (try searching).
I got an N8 before, and both cables doesn work, also the micro-USB to USB doesn't fit in.
I have an N8 but the S II hasnt reached yet. The HDMI wont work since it's not an MHL link. But the OTG should work but hyperX says it doesnt.
I got the OTG one. In theory it should work fine but unfortunately it's not micro USB :-(
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
yes the microusb on the nokia cable cannot fit into normal microusb slots.
however you can FILE the connector alittle and it will fit.
My wife has the N8 and it's microUSB to USB fits fine in my S2. I haven't tried the other cables.
There are two different MicroUSB types:-
SGS2 uses Micro USB B, and both cables are cheaply available on Ebay.
Paid abot £3 pound for mine which came from China.
I had previously bought one advertised for Nokia N8 and when it came it was Micro USB A - and DID NOT fit - so take care
I tried to upload an image but the forum spam filter would not let me due to new member / low posts - but try "upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/27/Micro-USB.jpg"

[Q] Where to buy USB cable charger/data for Desire Z?

Hey,
Apparently a dog bit my original cable (I can see the cables inside, but the cable still work), so I want to buy another cable.
I was looking on ebay and amazon, but there are many of them, and I dont know what difference are between each one.
Do you know where I can buy a cable in Canada (Edmonton)? Or just buy an OEM generic cable ?
I cant put links from ebay or amazon showing which cables I saw (I am a new user)
Thanks!
All you need is a USB to micro USB cable. Any electronics store should have them. You may even find one in a dollar store.

so, there are not issues charging or sending data with a generic cable? even if I need flash or something? (I already did the downgrade, perm root, s-off, etc)
Any cable should be fine. I use an old Evo cable. I flash all the time
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
they're all the same. Hit the dollar store and grab a USB-MicroUSB cable.
<rant>
Cables are cables, don't listen to the guys at stores telling you, you need this special cable that costs blah blah blah. You can buy a $60 HDMI cable for a playstation 3, that is the exact same cable as the $6 generic (minus the ps3 logo). Anything digital either works or doesn't. Crazy expensive gold plated whatever won't get you any better picture quality. When they first came out with component cables, you know the 5 plug monstrosity cost 5 times as much as the old RGB cables? Well all you needed was a RGB and an old red white audio plug.

EBay some micro USB to USB-C adapters. EBay is your friend ?

Only the original Oneplus Type-C adapter is working with otg. It seems, this is not a bug, it´s a feature.
Other adapters can only be used for standard data transfer and charging.

So is Amazon... I ordered 3 USB-C cables for $9 each.
i think otg cable from orzly is also working in OP2
http://orzly.com/orzly-type-c-to-female-usb-cable-for-oneplus-two-black.html
I got a three micro b to type c adaptors on EBay from the exotic far east. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=301725222332&alt=web
They do reasonably well with power xfer, sketchy to adequate on data xfer (depending on which example), but are a bit fragile with a hard and slightly brittle plastic. Using the OPO cable or a 1m Kopi cable I can sustain 1750+mah until the phone throttles back the charging rate (measured with USB multimeter and Battery Monitor Widget).
I expect that a better quality adaptor would be more rugged but not have huge performance gains outside of connection stability (quite important if you need to xfer large amounts of data in small chunks.
