Nope, ain't gonna happen. I hate to break it to you. I also, know that Skyfire is the most superior of all the web browsers when it comes to viewing flash content. Guess who also knows this, the people at HULU. Skyfire used to work for HULU content, but they got hip to this, so it no longer works. The only way you are gonna view HULU is to use myPlayer app. It is alright, you cant just view anything on Hulu, but you can view a lot of stuff on it. Plus, for now, this is as good as it gets. Search for myPlayer and Coreplayer (needed to stream myPlayer). You might just like it. I use it from time to time

that seems stupid and childish...why in the world does hulu care if we watch on our pc or a pocket pc...
im sure its something im missing regarding this, but it seems petty on the surface...

Don't blame Hulu, blame the US copyright system. Hulu has to keep all the TV networks (who legally hold the rights to those shows) happy by obeying every applicable copyright law. Hulu loses lots of business when a network decides to yank all their shows, and the average visitor to their site isn't happy when their shows go away. I'm sure somehow the networks negotiated something into some license/contract that Hulu must block mobile devices from viewing the site if possible, and Hulu is simply holding their end of the bargain

that's probably the most logical answer to what's going on...personally i don't use skyfire b/c they hoard as much personal info as google, as i understand it...thanks for clearing that up...

Yep, and also Skyfire would enable non US viewers of Hulu content. For now Hulu is only available for US IP's :-(

What doesn't make sense to me is why would they want LESS viewers of their material?

This happened many months ago.

I agree with Dave. The people who actually run hulu want it to succeed, but ultimately they aren't just answerable to the networks who own the content, hulu itself is owned by NBC, Fox and ABC/Disney.
Ironically, you can visit most of the network sites individually and watch via skyfire.

They don't, but despite wanting to get into an inevitable online/on demand system, they are concerned (justifiably) about hemorrhaging broadcast/cable/satellite viewers. Hulu has just now reached profitability, but it doesn't have near the margins mainstream sources do, and probably won't for some time to come. Networks DO want to have a presence to stop unnecessary pirating and they DO want their heavily serial shows (Lost) to be something you can miss an episode of and catchup online without dropping out of the audience because you feel lost and they DO want to build legit audiences towards the day when TV gets rolled into the internet, but they DON'T want to hasten that particular day.
I have an HTPC, a nice big HD monitor and a real IR remote hooked up to it. Networks fear people like me who don't need their more profitable partners anymore. Someday, they'll be able to charge larger premiums on ads than they can now and it will no longer be an issue, but not today.

Still, given some thought, it's not a bad thing for them. It's like if I had a free newspaper distributed in the county of a large city and a small supply accidentally got sent to a neighboring county. Why would I hate that?

Not to mention they are now owned in part by Comcast after the Comcast/NBC merger. Hulu is a direct competitor with cable companies. They not only block skyfire, but the PS3 as well. It's because they only want user's to watch their content sitting down at a computer. I think it's pretty ridiculous to block skyfire though. I used to watch hulu all the time on my phone before it was blocked since I am rarely at home in front of my computer. Now I pretty much never use hulu.
I did get my fill though when they unblocked it for a short amount of time ^-^ I just found out today that they blocked it again.

Market place apps suck?

Is it just me or are the apps in the WP7 market place really ****ty?
I am still trying to figure out whether to go Android or WP7 so i started checking out the market place. Well, my 1st impression is that there is nothing worth it, and when there is they are plain simple without any worth functionality or add-on.
I agree and posted similar on another thread. Really hope they get better very soon
What?
First of all, the market isn't open to the (general) public yet - there's well over 1,000 apps going through the curation process that aren't actually posted yet.
Of what's there right now, you have tons of desirable applications present such as Slacker Radio, IMDB, Shazam, Foursquare, Twitter, etc.
Stop hunting for things to complain about.
What do you mean not open to the public?
Just open your Zune software and you can easily browse the 1000+ apps that are there. Nothing comes even close to the apps that are available for my iPod touch for example.

Start naming apps.
When you've actually TRIED the applications let us know. Screenshots and text descriptions do not an application make. Unless your idevice runs WP7 software already then of course you are correct.
The Harvest is up on marketplace now and that looks sweet.
I thinly before just going hay arnt the apps crap you should look at Android marker and itunes and ask yourself what here is any better that wp7 doesn't have or will have within a very small amount of time. I mean its easy to just go oh there so much rubbish but really how many sound bored fart machines and fake beers do you wan?
I just did a quick counted and there are 532 Apps. Not sure what happed on Zune it is only showing 173 now??
More then I expected considering the phone is not launched yet.
Netflix is up, sprint needs to hurry with a wp7 device the epic is pissing my off
I love how quantity = quality
Well, considering Microsoft said that it will LAUNCH with a thousand + apps already in the market. So now we have to know the policies and regulations one's app must meet to get into the market, this is usually how you can tell if the majority of the apps are garbage, or not... Just like if you can tell, the Facebook app on iPhone is better than the Facebook app on Android. The games on iPhone look and feel nicer, and they tend to fail less often. The stricter the rules are, the more polished they come out, at least that is how I look at it.
I'm just glad that companies like netflix, twitter, ebay etc have official apps for WP7. Having those companies back WP7 is a big deal even if Microsoft had to throw some money their way to do it.

were you honestly expecting WP7 to have 200,000 apps on it's release? And how can you compare a brand new, unlaunched platform to iOS, which has been in dev hands for years?
There are applications still in development, don't criticize until the marketplace catches steam. Also theres applications that Android and Iphone can only dream of such as Cocktail Flow, just look to see.

Cool application...this is the right link I think:

ok , let us be concrete and give examples.
There are no RSS applications that are worth downloading.RSS application do not even Sync with Google reader. They do not have connectivity with Facebook, ReadItLater, Digg it, etc.....
Even the Shazam app looks a dwarfed version of the one available on the iPhone.
Furthermore everything (text, icons, gfx) all look huge on the screen in all applications. Sacrificing visual granularity in order to claim a faster experience is yet another deceiving wicked way of Microsoft claims.
Take a look at the Sudoku apps, it looks better in a newspaper and a pen. Why can't they check what Sudoku on iPhone looks like and try to beat that or at least copy it.
Come on guys, I can keep on and on with examples. I wouldn't launch a new product with such apps, especially when I claim a 500million dollar marketing campaign. That would be a fiasco just like the KIN before it.
At Christmas time, I will have to decide on either WP7 or Android (I am an Apple hater), so far Android wins on every point.

Today at the SAE Convergence 2010 Conference and Exhibition, Microsoft Corp. announced the availability of Windows Embedded Automotive 7 to select car makers and suppliers in the automotive industry.

I know; just saw that and I was like what the It's like they are making better or equal products for Android and iOS but I don't see iOS, Android and anyone else for that matter, making apps for Windows Phone. Like for exsample; I heard a rumor that with Connector for Mac you can actually sync with Outlook via USB but not with Windows/Windows Phone
I am just sitting here like why, I cannot show my friends anything I can do on my phone besides live tiles, now that FB is being integrated in iOS.

Maybe your screen is too big, the app is great. Everything works even the Avatar animations.
Funny thing is, its implemented better than the WP7 version. Quck access to messages, and the dots at the bottom letting you know which screen you're on. If it stayed logged in that would be awesome, and a widget would make me replace Spark 360.

Since I can not use the app despite google play saying it's compatible with my device (talk about bad user experience on android here... ) I can not compare it directly, but on WP7 I also have quick access to messages and I do not need dots to see what screen I am on... I can see that by looking at my screen
EDIT: wait. Regarding the messages, I am mixing this up with the games hub. Not that i have used the xbox live companion app too often, though. I never found it useful in the first place.
EDIT2: No, wait again. Is this app like the games hub or like the xbox live companion app?
As I also understand that Microsoft is a software company, they have the right to develop software on other platforms. But this affects their own products marketshare (wp). If people are used to the system their using and since ms apps are available across devices, why switch? The issue today isn't about how many their apps in store, or how an app is exclusive to this platform, but the OS experience (and also money money money). Take the iOS 6 example, not so wow-ing eh? People might eventually switch to another platform to have a different experience, but I know someone will counter-attack this statement so I'll say it now: People don't like change. People do from time to time. Think about it, in general most people get sick of doing the daily routine, in fact all of us do. That's why we choose to have hobbies or do something for a change to experience something totally different from the daily routine.
Secondly, its a persons decision. They like iOS, fine. Android, fine. Just as long as they brag about this and complain about that, its not like everyone cares about your device.
Also keep in mind that Xbox Music may also be available to these devices. They may have showed it off at E3 that it was running on a lumia 800 or a windows tablet, but you just never know.
In windows phone, the games hub is the whole Xbox Live app available in iOS and Android. The Xbox Companion app is only available for windows phone and iOS atm.

That's because windows phone's metro UI is panoramic/pivot, the whole hub/app overlaps the screen, unlike iOS and android which an app is only limited to use the available screen resolution, unless it is programmed to.

Coming from a household (and a workplace) where each 'user' has picked the PC / Tablet / Phone / Device of their choice, integration of all of them is VERY important, and reaffirms my personal commitment to the Win platform. They're thinking of my needs, not their domination of the market.
Seriously, watch all the google-using people complain about what they can do better on their google devices. Why wouldn't the additional exposure on 'foreign' OS devices for an MS app make you think about switching to the platform where the app came from?
In the case of the next generation, this just makes sense. Who'd want a centralized device in your living room that only connected with less than half the devices you already own? That critical piece (XBox) needs to be connected everywhere and to everything before users can even think of replacing existing devices. This is critical for success in the already installed base of devices out there.
People would be unimpressed if they had this 'cool feature' that let them control / stream / et. al.: but only if you buy all new devices. Wow, that would blow chucks pretty fast.
It's analogous to Office products - who'd buy into it if it ONLY worked with a small subset of devices / OS'es? It simply MUST be ubiquitous to take it seriously.
Correct, people need to understand the Xbox is a entirely different beast then petty cell phones. Microsoft makes more money off of Xbox, hardware and software.

Anyone use Tor? If not it's worth checking it out. Best proxy service out there. Using duck duck go for search engine it's a whole new Web.

I like it, but hate the speeds.. Unless they can't improve it then I usually don't use it.. I can get 1.8mbs of download speed without it, but with it I get 15-60kbs... There's no way to get better speeds unless you destroy some of the security
Yeah since it's really mean for deep Web fishing. Tough security on it, it's crazy.

I don't see any purpose for it unless your a hacker or fugitive from technology related crimes XD
It's not a daily driver but its excellent at getting thru websites that won't allow American ip addresses. Or going to the silk road

It wouldn't use more data, it would keep your radios active longer which theoretically would have a negative impact on battery life.
The speeds are rather low but, given the anonymity it provides, they are negligible when using Tor.

Well for daily driver I have issues using Google. They don't like the mass queries coming off my phone. Throws a red flag and blocks access to Google search. If you like the service consider running it on your pc and set up a relay. More relays = faster connection. I don't notice that much of a battery drain. I'll run it with and without then post screenies
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I hack and before i graduated i was using a proxy service on our school computers until they finally found out and blocked almost EVERY proxy service you could find. A branch of the U.S. Navy uses TOR for open source intelligence gathering, and one of its teams used TOR while deployed in the Middle East recently. Law enforcement uses TOR for visiting or surveilling web sites without leaving government IP addresses in their web logs, and for security during sting operations. Its very useful but yes, it is slow unless you have A LOT of bridges. I like it because most schools aren't smart enough to block you from executing programs from your flash drive.. At least mine wasn't so I liked that it was on my flash drive and I didn't have to save it on the schools home drive so I could just go from computer to computer, open, and use it. Its very useful and I don't get on a computer without using it.
Last time I checked or used Tor it was leaving behind some DNS trails. Anyone know of that is still the case?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Don't like the speeds on the onion router? Run a node. In theory, If a small fraction of the users who compain about the speed ran nodes, the network would become exponentially faster for everyone plus supply better obfuscation for the people who really need it on the network. I'm talking about all the journalists, dissidents, and whistleblowers out there -and anyone trying to affect positive change in hostile territory - not the pimply faced high schoolers buying drugs, pervs trading kiddie porn, or common thieves on the darkweb using tor to try and hide their criminal activities from law enforcement.
Ok... lets sudo this and talk TOR brass tacks. Because love it or hate it - something like TOR needs to be entered into knowing and understanding the risks, how the system works and what vulnerabilities you are exposed to. I caution people to a) dont believe the hype / both from its opponents and proponents. Risk as well as profit deploying it vary per user and per device. So listen to what people say about their experiences but also consider the source of the intel as well: jondoe commenting on how TOR sucks and/or is great means nothing if his platforms consist of running it from IOS or any .net environment. b) dont render a false sense of security from its target description and ploy. If not used in concert with a plethora of additional /sys/config - it will bite you. Not listening to this suggestion could actually make you stick out on a network as a TOR user. Although the tunnel and its content are encrypted / your entry to and exit from are not... and thats usually where the nets are. c) .... I could go on .... lets cut to some solutions for further consideration and to get me off this soap box.
1. GOV/official use: debunked - is not happening on any level nor has it ever despite what the media and/or forums have reported. Despite its Milt. Ind. Complex birth / TOR is not used for HUMINT officially. Why would they? Their tools far surpass TOR's percieved abilities. maybe its used by local munincipal or DHS - but again ... these organizations are currently in turmoil upgrading to WIN7. ...! Do the math.
2. There are many other options for configuring your device to achieve what your intended TOR to provide you with. There is no out-of-the-box solution. Learn and master how TCP works and work on lowering your fingerprint score before allowing TOR to lead you to the hunters.
So take this for what its worth from someone who wears both hats professionally. Im not breaking my code of silence to scare you or internationally counter others in this thread .. if it bothers you - get over it. Im done listening to people turn speculation into fact that others may be harmed by. This is a PSA. If you have to ask questions or seek instruction and/or advice concerning TOR - dont use it.
I'm in the fraud fighting industry and need this app to take me to underground carding forums, etc. Orbot quit working when I upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.3. Any ideas or has anyone found a fix for it to work with 4.3?
Update in Play Store released yesterday or today didn't solve the problem. Wished that would have fixed it.

Completely different ROM?

Is there any desire to put a different rom on this thing and de-amazon-ify it? Amazon closed my account for "bad selling practices" despite the fact I have an investment in two fire TVs, a gamepad, two kindle fire HDX, one recently renewed year of prime, and over $150 in purchased content that they say I cant access now. Im absolutely livid at the amount of control amazon has over things that I hvae purchased, and content that I own. Im not a programmer, I really dont even understand how building an android ROM works. If anyone here who does understand these things wants to get started on making a NON amazon rom that still supports the remote, and the game pad, and has some kind of TV friendly interface, that would be great. at least then I would be able to keep part of my investment.

Read the fine print in any app store. Amazon, Google, Apple, Microsoft, all have a clause saying that anything you purchase will be gone if your account is closed. Even though you may get a refund for Prime via your credit card company, any "purchased" (read: rented) apps or media will remain inaccessible even if you change ROMs. APKs of paid apps have Amazon's license check, and will fail to start if you don't have Amazon's Appstore installed and signed in with the account that purchased these apps.
It's never a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket. I recommend doing purchases with a separate account than your primary one. Just in case your primary account is closed for doing something they deem as "bad," at least you have a good chance to keep your purchased items and subscriptions. I do that with my Google account, and I would do the same with my Amazon one if I cared enough about the content there.
The desire to create custom Roms exsist for the Fire TV, however this device has a protected boot loader that is currently very difficult to remove. Without getting past this hurtle, there will be no custom Roms for this device. The only function we have at the moment is full control root access. This allows for tweaking the OS but that's about it. Don't hold your breath on an unlocked bootloader because that may take a while, or not even happen at all.
The only other option currently is https://github.com/freedreno/freedreno/wiki/FireTV but the entire process is not public.
I threatened amazon with a lawsuit, and they unlocked my account. Now I cant sell but at least I can buy.
You sound like a winner.
A few weeks back this guy jcase was on twitter bragging about how he was going to update his 25 dollar tool to unlock the bootloader on the FTV. Sadly, it still hasnt be released so its probably just another bait from him (surprise!), much like the root he claimed to have for 6 months but ended up never releasing. Pretty safe to say at this point that the FTV will not be unlocked, good thing is android tv is around the corner, plus there are other boxes like the Minix NEO X8 which are more powerful and offer the full android experience.

never once did he say he was going to update any other program of his to include the FireTV unlock, nor did he say he was going to charge 25 bucks to unlock the ftv .. he said he would release his work shortly.. then he said live got real and stuff came up.. hold tight.. as in he'll release it when ready.. its people like you that, if i was him, would deter me from working on exploits any more. if you want it unlocked so bad, its all been laid out a few times how he did it, what needs to be done, and with robclarks instructions you could get something else running on it.. (for myself, this is all way over my head),so do it yourself or wait and let things happen when they happen, maybe shoot him a donation on paypal saying thanks for all his hard work too.

LOL @ your fanboyism - "Anyone own a firetv? FireTV unlock coming soon from http://TheRoot.ninja" - He then follow this with "why not, Fire Tablet HDX gets bootloader unlock this weekend as well" These are quotes directly from him LOL, the link included is to his 25 dollar sunshine tool or whatever its called. Not once in my previous post did i say anything about me wanting the bootloader unlock either i just said the guy is a baiter. Which he clearly is since he literally hasnt released anything for the FTV other then some screen shots.

Torrent downloaders will be throttled. VPN or TOR should combat that

Thanks dude for clarifying that
Technically you'll still have unlimited data, just at a much slower speed.
You would be surprised how many company s are doing this already. There are actually many cable company's that are doing this also. This is unfair for those that use peer-to-peer networking to transfer non illegal stuff.
Honestly t-mobile is the only company that offers truly I unlimited at a reasonable price. Att for 2 lines I would have to pay 60 and he 5gb of data to SPLIT between the 2 lines.

I can honestly say, I've never met anyone who uses torrents for legal stuff.

I use them to download Linux distros. You would be surprised how many artist and movies actually release there work on bit torrent sites for free.
https://bundles.bittorrent.com/#!/
https://www.jamendo.com/en/welcome
http://linuxtracker.org/
https://archive.org/details/bittorrent
http://www.mininova.org/featured/cat/
..
I could go on.
A lot of movie studios, record company, and independent artist will do this to hype there movie or even get people to donate to them and lets the consumer pay what they want for the movie. A good example of this would be a small mom and pop store may practically give things away to get people in the door and away from the big business. So in Turn if people can down load the torrents the company will not make money.....But the fact is the portion of people that are doing this is pretty small, but some people still do it. Again just like the amount of people that will shop at a mom and pop store opposed to Walmart,Target,Whole Foods,Ex...
I just ditched att after 6 years because they were throttling my data at 5gs. I unlocked the sim, bought a tmo sim for $10.75 and now I pay 80per month for unlimited data, phone, tx, with zero throttling and no contract. I get extremely fast 20-30 mbps download speeds and have ditched the $45 per month att wifi. I am at almost 100gs this month by running my n3, laptop, and kids ipads. I do not go to torrent download sites at all, am I in jeopardy of being throttled by tmo ???
yep; if you continue to use 100 gigs per month, eventually you will be throttled..
XiPhoneUzer, I did the exact same. I paid more than necessary for YEARS to hold on to my "Grandfathered Unlimited Plan" despite generally using wifi and using (sometimes well) under 2 gigs of mobile data every month for the prior year (not to mention crippled, locked-down bootloader phones). It was the "just in case" mentality, ya know? Well, about a year ago now, "just in case happened"... I lost power in my apartment for like a week (obviously no modem / router / computers...) Man, I sure was glad I held on to that Unlimited plan! Immediately started watching some Netflix and... taking care of business (such as downloading a couple new Linux ISOs). Well, I hit 5 gigs mobile data that night. Got a warning message at like 4990 MB, then 5 mins later, my connection was immediately throtled down to completely "can't load a webpage" unusable. ATT reps were super helpful, like, "Man, that's too bad." and "At least you only have to wait until next Wednesday." Wouldn't even "let" me pay for more data with a usable connection! ... I no longer make use of their services.
On topic... my concern is: Is this going affect people who use clearly legitimate apps / services like BT Sync? That is, am I going to need to keep my KeePass database synced across devices via USB otg every time I update it on my computer, or some multi-step LAN upload? No, I'm not cool with keeping that kind of thing on GDrive or whatever.
You guys need to research and chill. They are only interested in the very top downloaders. These are people moving Terrabytes/month. Your 100GB is probably not even on the radar. They are also only applying the throttle to those users when the network is crowded and those people are causing problems for other users on the network. This is not the time to freak out about it. Watch, and call them on their BS, should it be called for, but for now, it's really not. This isn't a comcast style "kill all connections that look like bittorrent" deal.
To give some idea of scale, they claimed that they were contacting 20 users for this first time. Seems quite reasonable, right now. If they start to get bad, they have to know they will be called out on it. Save the rage, we might need it later.
