Quite a strange question here, and probably one with an obvious answer!
The 4 buttons under the screen seem to light up at various times (together, not individually!), but it seems to be quite random on my device. Does anyone know what triggers them to light up, as I can't seem to work it out... also, want to ensure they aren't faulty!
thanks!

I think if the light sensor detects that it's dark, they'll light up.
that had crossed my mind, it just seemed slightly more erratic at times...

But then you have to charge the phone more
I have a problem with my rooted G2's light sensor as well. I check sensor values using either an app or Cyanogen's light level editor and it's permanently stuck at 219. I guess that's what I get for upgrading my radio. :/
I'm not sure it's the radio, but my light sensor needs calibrating or something. Even in a pitched black room, it jumps up to 320lx, making it shut off the keyboard when I need it. Ugh, ugh, ugh. It still works though -- just not on the low end of the spectrum.

In the virtuose sense 2.0 thread, they have made some flashable zip that adjust the proximity sensor and light sensor... I don't know if they will work on that rom...but if you want to try..

While using the keyboard yesterday, I'd find it would very frequently disconnect from the Xoom, and didn't seem to auto reconnect when I pressed buttons. Every time I'd have to turn off the keyboard and turn it back on to reestablish the link. Anyone else having this issue?
Using tiamat 2.2 moray if that makes a difference.
Not seen the lights flash in a way that would indicate low battery either so don't think it's that.

I would still replace the batteries just to see if it makes a difference.
everyone has this issue, it's just the way either our tablet or the keyboard "works".
I don't count having to turn off and on the keyboard on a regular (sometimes multiple times in a few minutes) period as "working"
Will try some new batteries at some point, though as I said its not given the battery flashing combination of lights yet.

check out xoomforums.com. It's a known issue. Live with it or try the logitech keyboard.
Known issue but no fix? That's a shame. And given I got the keyboard and mouse free I'm loathe to spend out on something ;-)

Likely you an app that's frequently changing system settings. In my case it was the HDWidgets weather widget. I killed the widget and problem went away. Using 1W for weather instead.
When i open my keyboard it turns off my screen.
This has been like this for a month or longer. It is nor ROM related or kernel related as I've flashed a ton if roms and kennels in the last month. Hardware is fine as the keyboard lights up and keys work, screen works gone worth keyboard closed... It's like 'software' doesn't know keyboard is open..... Well that's nor true because it lights up....
Any ideas?

Mine turns off, but you have some deep sleep issues affecting your phone not wanting to gain enuff processor speed to get out of deep sleep? Its a possibility

Sounds like a bad video ribbon cable.

Could be your phone has fleas from flashing all those kennels.
Haha flees.... I've tried setting gov to performance then power down, nothing. I setup Tasker to post a notification when keyboard opens and it does post so the system knows the keyboard is open. I also tried using Tasker to set display on time out to 99 min.... Etc.. Still stays off. Heck just opening it shuts off screen. When screen is off opening it flicks on screen.....

Any way to change that?
The white epic touch has uncomfortably bright capacitive buttons. So I have to use turn off after 6 seconds option instead of turn off never. It still bothers me though. The black epic touch didn't have this problem.
Not that I know of. I've had mine turned off since the day I got the phone. I know what the buttons are and where they are so I dont need them lit up.

It's certainly possible on HTC phones -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276936
i have a white one too, and, yes, the lights are a lot brighter than on the black ones...Plus, I have a wrapsol covering the entire phone, and, they cast an erie glow
through the screen protector.
Actually, this reminds of an idea for a mod that I had. I thought of it when I had a white et4g screen for a little while, the capacitive buttons look so cool because of the slight aura around the lights.
The idea was a mod that lit each individual button when you hit them, except the light would fade in and out quickly; similar to what the on-screen keys do on the galaxy nexus. It would couple well with a mod that would have them light up quickly in succession when the phone is woken up, rather than simultaneously.
Wishful thinking I suppose lol.

Ever try using 1.5 seconds for the backlight?

I don't think that would be possible, simply because they were never designed to work that way. Each soft key would have to have its own LED.

Are those capacitive buttons still Amoled?
Cause then by definition they have their own led pixels.
I've noticed when I leave my phone idle when going to bed at night and when I wake in the morning that my motion gestures stop working until I unlock the phone a few times with the power button. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is this normal or is it a faulty device? I got a screen protector but it's a normal spigen one so I doubt it's that.
Everything work here at least if I don't cover the proximity sensor...
You have to pick the device up. Move it somehow then the motion detectors will work

Oh I see. That's what I do wrong probably. I've always wondered why double tap wasn't working when laying on my desk.
Edit: Well it works but not always. Odd. Thanks though

If it's on your desk naked, rock it gently in either direction, then double tap. It work that way too

I maybe wondered since the phone went into deep sleep maybe it would turn it off to prevent battery usage. I remember picking up device and trying to unlock. I'll try tomorrow again in the morning.

ok waiting for your reply.
That's deep sleep the gestures won't work unless proximity detects movement and if the phone is in deep sleep then sensors are also
