So i've had the HTC Desire for a week now and i'm starting to think there's either an issue with the phone or with the T-mobile (UK) network.
When the phone shows 'H' , browsing the net, downloading, or using the marketplace is a snap.
However, when this dips to 3G, either no data seems to be relayed to the phone or it does so incredibly slowly.
This means, web pages or marketplace often ask me to retry as no data connection is available.
I don't think it's a signal strength issue as i have 3bars when connecting under 3G.
Has anyone else experienced this?
*(worth noting that i got the latest OTA update pushed out today , and still have the issue)
*(Posted this in the UK tmobile forum too, to see if tmob have anything to say)

It is the Network.
Hero / G2 owners have had lot's of issues and last week I was in Europe with my Desire and I had 100% perfect connection 99% on H Speed (even on the underground!)
Came back here and 3G simply does not work anywhere near as good or actually at all!
H or G2 only it seems.
T-Mobile Customer Service feel that not having 3G is fine and acceptable as you are not paying for 3G and they are meeting their requirements of providing the ability to make calls, send text's and have net acces via 2G.
- cheers for that info. I've actually seen the issues with the G2 (hero) you mention on the Tmob forums. Can't believe so many users are being ignored.
Just disgraceful. I wish i knew this before signing up with them. I can't get H in my office, only 3G and it's useless
Is this network issue location specific, or does it affect of the UK? Presumably London or another major city shouldn't have this issue.
I live and work in central london.
Calll TM up I had a new QOS policy applied to my account and also I was told the MMS settings were affecting my speed.. I used speedtest.net app to see what speed I had no more than 300k on both 3G and HSPDA.. It is now fluctuating between 1500k and 2300k
They are still looking in to my issue thats why it keeps fluctuating..
Defo worth giving them a call
any updates ninjak?
i was VERY tempted to get T-mobile deal on this but now im not so certain...
Hmmm, my connection has been perfect no connection drops...ironic my BT line has gone fault (pretty much dead) and im using my Desire to tether internet on t-mobiles network till they come fix my landline on monday...so yeah no problems here

Where abouts in Manchester are you based? The coverage in my neck of the woods is shady to say the least.
Central......Ardwick (Apollo Theatre)
Having the same issues on T-Mobile Netherlands lately. It already started with my G2. But with the Desire I constantly need to retry... Let's hope we don't have faulty handsets...
I don't seem to have any problems downloading when I have the 3g or H symbol, but occasionally those symbols disappear altogether suggesting the mobile network option is turned off, but its not and it still shows 3/4 bars suggesting it has a signal. I had to reset my phone this afternoon so I could actually use data, bit annoying really.
^ sorry double post..
anyone in milton keynes? with first hand experience?
Can anyone confirm what actually happens when you lose connection to the net via 3G?
My browser has "hung" a few times - page will stop loading, and neither a refresh choosing a link from bookmarks will work. In fact this stops my browsing completely - even using Advance Task Killer to kill the browser doesn't solve the problem, and I have to reboot the phone.
Are these the symptoms people are seeing here, or something else? I didnt notice at the time whether I had the 3G symbok, or the H.
T-Mobile is really bad network i was stuck with them for 18 months on my G1 poor mobile internet and phone signal, once i download some app for it, which tells you with a noise when you loose your signal. omg had to uninstall the app becasue it went off so many times. Now on vodafone with my HTC Desire much better in the warrington (in middle of manchester and liverpool) area. A while back my dad said T-Mobile used to be that bad he had to go into the garden to make a call..
There seems to be something wrong with the settings IMO.
HSDPA is nowhere near as fast as it should be I don't think. There was a topic saying if you change the APN you get faster internet but I didn't try it.
Does anyone have the TMobile handset, but flashed a generic ROM?
Does this problem still exist with the generic ROM?
I want to stay with TMobile as the prices are easily better than anyone else, but NOT if this internet/data problem persists. I would rather pay the extra £100 to Vodafone over the course of 18mths to get solid data connection.
I will be rooting my phone when the method is made public/reliable etc, so want to know if this problem goes away.

Anyone else looking forward to the T-Mobile Orange merger? Hopefully I'll end up with Orange's coverage on their street checker, haha.

Ok so I got the Desire
My connection keeps switching from 3G to HSDPA every couple of seconds this is causing all sorts of issue for me.. Any body else have this issue? I might take the handset back for the 4th time
Happens to me as well mate, its due to having a low 3g/hsdpa signal... My one where i live constantly changes between 3g/hsdpa and G. But when i go into central london, it stays H its due to the signal quality in the area, not with your phone mate
JD
I second that, it switches all the time in my home and never downloads on 3G. I thought this was an issue with the phone, then at a party I couldn't get H but got 3G and it downloaded data fine.
I'm hoping that they increase the signal strength and coverage over the years, but i'm pretty satisfied thus far.
At least you see a 3G and a HSPDA connection... I have never seen past GPRS on mine. Fastest it's been is 25kbps dl and ul with 577ms ping so I can only ever use WiFi. So much for navigation.

i have a fairly weak area too and left my phone on auto thinking this was best. however, having selected 3g only, i have noted a much improved data connection and none of this messing about going from one to another! maybe worth a try for your area.
The two main places i use the connection are at home and work and in both my connection speed varies according to where i am .If i sit on the right hand couch in my living room then i just about get 3g but if i move 10 ft across the room i get full HSPDA(the same situation occured with my iphone)and i have yet to find out the reason.
If you want to find out how you are serviced then visit w w w. sitefinder . ofcom . org . uk/ just remove the gaps
hi
My understanding is that when there is minimal date transfer (basically just connected to network) it shows 3G but when any data transfer takes place e.g., opening webpage or market etc etc, the connection changes to HSDPA to download at faster rate
But i may be wrong
I have the same prob, and already opened topic about it, and i see few others opend some more..
Basicly having my old HTC HD aside with Desire, HD connects to 3g, and Desire is jumping around from 3G and a HSPDA and it doesnt wana connect to 3g, same happnes with a HTC Legend phone who 2 of my friends have.
Hi guys, I got my Samsung Omnia 7 yesterday, been having fun with it at home however it keeps disconnecting/reconnecting to my wifi, which is odd in itself, even if I stand right next to the router.
More annoying than this however, is that I was out and about today, in the center of a city where I know has full Orange 3g signal (my friend on Orange was with me) and I had no 3g. Absolute pain as I wanted to show off my new phone, but it couldn't do anything!
I then went about 10 miles away to another area with full Orange 3g signal and have nothing! I have no 3g in my house, at college, in town, it's ridiculous. A soft reset will sometimes make it work for all of 30 seconds before it drops again!
Anyone else having these issues? Hardware or software related? Cheers guys, Jacob.
Hmm my 3g has all of a sudden come on with full bars :S Maybe it was a network issue after all...
Today I noticed that the signal on my hox is worse than on my old desire. On places where my desire got constand hsdpa the hox switches constantly from hsdpa to 3g with less signal bars. Anyone else with this problem ?

Same here, I now have to go outside my office to be able to make calls that dont drop. With my SG2 would get full bar in my office, but with HOX only get 2bars
Yup mine seems the same, stumbled upon this thread looking for a solution so hopefully someone who has some success resolving the issue will be able to help.
I'm having this issue too, hopefully when s off has been achieved we will be able to flash different radios it has fixed this issue on all of my previous phones.
My phone also seems to have a somewhat weaker 3G reception than my SGS-2, although they both act in the same way in regards to switching between 3G and H+ all the time. I think this can be corrected partly via software updates since the wifi reception is much stronger on the HOX than any unit I ever had before. It is the same "antenna" the receives both signals isnt it?
Mine seems to get faster 3G speeds than my Gnex and GS2 (unless my network has improved in the past 2 week)
But phone signal is far worse, especially since the 1.28 update... I'm not getting signal now in places where I used to always get signal
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
My data speeds have dramatically decreased after the latest 1.28 update - quite dissapointing! I have no use for better signal if the data is worse lol
Have been lurking on here for a while now and noticed a few threads and comments about reception on the One X
I am in the same boat, was using a Desire S and now a One x and noticed there is a distinct difference in signal level between the two. Not just the signal bars (desire s has 4, One x has 5) but the dBm levels too.
I would say that 80% of those that have had the update and posted about signal have said that it has improved, regardless of carrier they use.
I went into the store where I bought mine from (ThreeUk Retail shop) and they were going to swap it out there and then for me but the handset on display (working demo) had a similar level to mine, so seemed pointless as Im guessing that all/most of the units are like this, it isnt an isolated case.
So, im not sure what to do now. I have just swapped my main number to Three (and its now my only number). Im without coverage far more than I used to be with Voda, or with Three using the Desire S.
Three shop says they have a 28 day policy for faulty handsets, I hope that the update is out before that so I can see for myself.
Brilliant handset though…. screen is lush, using the phone is a pleasure…. just brilliant.
Steve
I am noticing far worse signal on my handset than previous handsets , an awful lot of the time my handset switches between t-mobile and orange , whereas previous handsets were solid t-mobile all day , and also the data speeds are worse. I am not very impressed as the 1.28 update appears to have made this worse, and its an unlocked generic variant in the uk if thats of any help
cheers
james
My signal is loads better.
Before the update I couldn't sit on the sofa and make a call I would get 3bars then nothing.
Now I'm a fairly constant 4 bars sat on the sofa.
I'm on Tesco (so O2) I was going to take the handset back before the update.
Battery seems twice as good on a completely different note.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I have had a similar experience as descb600f. Prior to 1.28 my signal would drop regularly. After 1.28 I am finding it is far better, regularly seeing 3 bars, where before it would continually switch between 0 and 2 bars.
WiFi reception is great, puts my Desire to shame!
So which is it, does 1.28 make signal alot better or not? And what about actual call quality, its one thing getting 3 bars but another if calls are choppy
I do have to agree with the signal/Wifi issues on this device.. I came from a Nexus S (GSM model) and I used to get good HSPA/UMTS signals on that device, I also have a Wifi network setup in my house, it covers most of the house and some of the backyard.. However when out in the backyard the One X seems to drop the connection to the Wifi network, however my old Nexus S still has atleast 2-3 bars of Wifi connectivity and constantly keeps the signal/connection.
Has anyone else had issues like this with Home Wifi networks not getting as great a signal as other devices?
If I hold the One X in one hand and the Nexus S in the other and move away from the Wifi Access Point, the One X drops signal strength a lot quicker and the Nexus S keeps connection/signal a lot further away..
Bit dissapointed with that, and hope it's some how able to be fixed with software/firmware upgrades in the future?
Also I noticed the One X seems to switch between H/3G (HSPA/UMTS etc) quite a lot more than the Nexus S does, same network, holding both in same spot..
Apart from these minor issues and the screen flickering issue I'm more than happy with the One X..

WiFi and 2G/3G are two different chipsets and different antennas.
I have also notices dropsin the last 3 days, including hours with no reception at all
Need to switch from 1.26 to 1.28 soon to try it...
I should say I live in an area with only 2G reception and we sit in a dip partially hidden from the transmitters.
We can only get O2/Voda (orange/TMob if I just want to live upstairs in a corner of the house) and since the update I now have no issues with reception just like I used to.
1.28 has resolved my issues.
On the wifi front
I live in an old stone cottage with timber frame extension (wifi b/g can't make it thru our internal walls in the old part of the house), I have the N wifi router upstairs in the extension and have no issues with losing WiFi either (didn't have issues before 1.28).
Hope this helps people, I realise some may say it has got worse but for me the difference is night and day making the phone completely fine.
I just found an old 3 SIM (from a dongle) and popped it into my desire s and placed both by the window running Network Signal App for 30 minutes.
Both were attached to the same tower and the HOX was getting between -89 and -91 dbm, the Desire a consistent -75dbm.
Just hope that Three shake their touche's and get the update approved ASAP…. im quite a technical guy, but the idea of rooting and doing the update myself gives me the shakes…..

I used my Galaxy S3 a few weeks ago
It is the Rogers i747m Galaxy S3 LTE
The major issues I am having are:
Weak Wi-Fi: the Wi-Fi is weaker than my iPad 3... It disconnects and connects... Even in my living room, next door from my router, my signal is either 1 bar or 0 bar for Wi-Fi, and sometimes it disconnects... My iPad in the same living room gets around 2/3 or 3/3 bars
Weak Cellular Reception: the weak cell signal is also an issue... It is not as weak as dropping my calls, but it is weak and slows down my data speeds...I am using in the wide open in Scarborough in Toronto, there are no high rise buildings.. On 2G, I get full bars... On 3G, I get a bar less than full. On 3.5G (HSPA+), I get 2 bars to half bars. And on 4G LTE, I get 2 bars or even worse no bars and it switches back to 3G or 3.5G HSPA+...
Never had these Wi-Fi and cellular signal issues with my Samsung Captivate and Samsung Wave S8500.....
Anyone can tell my if my phone is defective?
Or is this the phone hardware issue and it widespread with the North American LTE variant of the Galaxy S3?
Thanks.
Good Question, one of which I like to know myself. I'm in the west end (Brampton (for now lol) ), it seems like the signal strength varies even in the same city with only a 3 min drive apart and no tall building in sight lol. I'm talking 1248 kbps to 31743 kbps download.
Not sure about the cellular signal but the WiFi connecting and disconnecting is a known issue(by us, not sure if Samsung) and is being worked on. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790187
Following the instructions in the OP fixes it for me but when I reboot the device, problem is back.
I haven't had any WiFi issues. I don't use it a lot. But I was testing it out tonight and it hasn't disconnected on me at all. I'll keep testing it out
and let you know if I lose WiFi connection. I do recall when I had the S2 i9100, I was losing WiFi connection quite a bit. I wonder if this is a random Samsung device issue? Or could it be an issue with the type of router you have?

If you have this issue, you'll notice right away as it'll connect and disconnect you every 5 seconds or so. I've only noticed it with one WAP and that's one at work, at home and elsewhere it works fine.
I am getting weak Wi-Fi signals around 0-2 bars.. And it disconnects sometimes at random but not as often as 5 seconds though...
Also, the question with the Wi-Fi issue being mass spread might be the International Tegra 3 version
The North American GS3 used the Qualcomm 89xx with has integrated Wi-Fi.. Possibly the North American model use a different antenna design...
I barely talk on my phone but the bars are about the same levels as my iphone 3gs before it was. My wifi I use it in 5ghz, and across my apartment, through 2 walls, im getting near wired speeds.
No issues with wifi here. I at least that I've noticed seems about the same compared to my iPhone and transformer tablet..
for me I am using it on wireless N on the 2.4 ghz band
I have yet to try on a 5 ghz band wireless N
My WiFi feels like it can go 1mb/second..
I do sometimes get roaming messages when I'm at home which confuses the heel out of me
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda premium
I just accessed the *#0011# and turned the Wi-Fi Power Save to OFF and my S3 Power Save is also OFF
Wi-Fi signal is still VERY WEAK 1-2 bars and sometimes no bars... Did a Speedtest and got around 3Mbits/sec downlink and around 0.2Mbits/sec uplink...
On my laptop, I am getting 19Mbits/sec down and around 8Mbits/sec up.....
I checked the service menu's Wi-fi Information page on my S3 via dialing *#0011# -> MENU softkey -> WiFi
In the Wi-Fi Information, it shows my phone is connected to my router using 802.11b ONLY
What the heck??? ICS Software glitch???
You are getting 1MB/sec down ??!?
Damn how do you do it??
It seems like the North American GS3 with the Qualcomm LTE chip suffers the same Wi-Fi as the International version
Check thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724838&page=6
But you must have a good Wi-Fi unit.. I will go to the store and exchange my White S3 i737m tomorrow and see if the Wi-Fi problem still persists..
Before you exchange your phone, could it be your router? Did you test your phone out with a different router or in someone else's house? I have no issues with mine. Like I said in my previous post, I had issues with WiFi on my S2. So I'm thinking it's a random Samsung issue with certain routers.
I have 3 different routers at home
1. Standard D-Link Dual-band N router which I bought last year
2. D-Link Xtreme N
3. Linksys Wireless N
| have tried on my Xtreme N and my Linksys on both 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz and the phone just has really low Wi-Fi signal either 0-2 bars of signal and it disconnects and reconnects at random...
The only way for me to get a good signal it basically using my phone 10cm from the router...
I tried the phone at a friend's house, in which case he has a Belkin Wireless N router. Also I tried it on University of Toronto St. George campus' WiFi... Both scenarios results in the same, low WiFi connection signal it seems to fluctuate randomly, Low down/uplink speeds and disconnection and reconnects at random...)
From the phone's service menu for WiFi, it show the phone is only connected to 802.11b (It will NEVER connect to g or n no matter what router I tried to connect to)
Non of these WiFi issues happen to my Samsung Captivate... When I use my Captivate, even when I am in the basement (my router is in the 2nd floor), my Captivate is getting around 50-75% WiFi signal strength on 802.11n
It seems like I did not have time today to exchange my phone due to some University essay due... Will probably exchange it on the weekend.
Will definitely report back on my exchanged model on XDA...

Its just damn good lol
Coming from Rogers Galaxy S II LTE, the LTE connection is weaker on the GSIII. Even when comparing it to the iPad3 at the same location at the same time, iPad connects fine on LTE and the GSIII at times is on 4G.
I did my exchange yesterday..
My WiFi disconnection seemed to have stopped. But the weak signal issue is still present..
I could not pick up public WiFi spots in my University... This is a ludicrous issue... Even in my house, I could barely pick up my own WiFi (if I am literally in the same room or a room next to the router).. My GS3 cannot even pickup any of my neighbors' WiFi. On my iPhone, Docomo Sharp SH-06D and my Samsung Captivate, I could pick up WiFi from neighbors across the street......
Well at least my new unit do not randomly disconnect and reconnect the WiFi now... But the weak signal link is still a MAJOR issue...
Hopefully Samsung will acknowledge the WiFi issue soon....
I have the exact same wifi issues as you. I've called Samsung and their support tech concurred with me that my phone is defective. I verified it with AT&T also when I took the phone to an AT&T corporate store and sat down with a salesperson there with an SGS 3. Connecting to the in store wifi the salesperson had full bars. I had barely one, and it kept reconnecting. I have to wait another couple of weeks before I can do a warranty exchange with At&t because I didn't buy my phone from a corporate store, I got it off of craigs list, and AT&T warranty services won't step in and help until the phone has been on sale for 31 days. So I'm having to wait until then. Meanwhile My data plan started on the 16th of July and I got a warning that I've used 65% of my 4g data up already. I'm sure I'm going to go over and they issued me a 10 dollar credit to take care of that.
It's inconvenient yeah, but at least I'll be taken care of.
AT&T actually gave you credits for data even your phone was from Craigslist?!!
If it was Rogers, they wouldn't even cared.. lmao...
Samsung should make the WiFi issue public... This is NOT AN ISOLATED ISSUE.... It is much more widespread, not just on the ATT/Rogers/Bell/Telus Galaxy S3 i747(m) variants...
The WiFi problem persists on the International i9300 version as well....
