Who's got their unlocked Desire already? - Desire General

Has anyone actually taken delivery of an unlocked Desire yet? If so, could you please let us know when it arrived and who you purchased from?
If you have any updates from suppliers, that would also be good to know.
Thanks!
Edit: By 'unlocked' I mean HTC Original - not carrier versions.

Picked mine up yesterday from work (CPW), stores have had stock since yesterday and HO has had stock since Friday night.
This should probably mean that e2save/mobiles.co.uk/onestopphoneshop should all have stock soon if they dont already.

So how much are CPW charging for the simfree version? It's not on their website yet.

It's not SIM free they're selling it's PayG with a £10 topup (Orange) it's £409. Should be unlocked to all networks though.

I got mine delivered yesterday morning from T-Mobile

Will the ROM or anything will be changed by Orange, any of their own stuff included in it? Any branding or Logos or stuff?

No, it's not an orange phone it's effectively SIM free they're just bundling it with an Orange SIM - but feel free to confirm with the store

CPW (and of course mobiles.co.uk) sell 'generic' unlocked handsets. No matter which network you pick them up with etc. you will get an unbranded and unlocked phone - an advantage of getting it from CPW (but of course if you're upgrading you can't haggle over contract and price etc.)...

I have been talking to the people over at Handtec about my pre-ordered SIM unlocked Desire. They have informed me as of this morning (5:00 am CST March 30, 2010 ) that the phone is still scheduled to be shipped out on April 7th.
They said that their stock will be coming directly from HTC, so if anything new comes up, their website will be updated immediately

just picked my from the carphone warehouse(north watford,uk),already unlocked to all networks and has the ff firmware details.
firmware version 2.1 update1
baseband version 32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11
kernel version 2.6.29-97da29ed
build number 1.15.405.3 cl 150129 release-keys
software number 1.15.405.3

Ive got a pre-order in with Handtec and waiting for it to be delivered, which is looking like 7th April.
So how can CPW be selling them unlocked?
I paid via paypal as i had £150 sat in there, so there was no way i would buy it in store, just gutted i cant get it early ..... as everyone else is.

its true that its unlocked to all networks,i'm not using my t-mobile sim but a 3uk sim card.the handset is not t-mobile branded.

I did a live-chat with mobilephonesdirect this morning to check on their dates.
They're still expecting stock on Thurs (1st) so said to expect delivery w/c 5th.
With other retailers getting sim free stock I'm surprised they haven't had theirs...

I'm rushing 2 CPW in my lunch break now...

Thank God, I got mine from CWH (from 3rd one I visited, altho I was ready 2 visit all of them in Sheffield).
Did ask the CWH guy 2 make sure that it is UNLOCKED with generic HTC ROM not the branded one (as they sell it as PAYG on Orange only)... He says it is Unlocked straight from HTC...so lets see...
Sadly though can confirm that it does not have S2T button on it (on the one I checked in store)...

Will this work with 3 Mobile in Australia?

I can stand Telstra and as they are only available in Australia via Telstra, i want to purchase one outright. I want to know if anyone knows if this phone will work well on the 3 network.
The unlocked HTC desire will work on any network in Australia (not as good on telstra). I'm getting mine from clove on the 7th . Plussss, it's ALOT cheaper getting it imported from the UK, all up it comes to like $550 if i can remember right. It will be around $800 outright from Telstra.
P.S i forgot to mention that you can't get it from t-mobile, you'll have to wait for the unlocked version.

I'm pretty sure all of the T-Mobile ones are unlocked . Check with others on the forums. T-mobile is probably not an option anyway unless you have a UK address- I dont think they sell them outright??
Will definitely work on 3mobile Australia. I'm also getting one from clove. I'm checking about every hour to see if they have brought the shipping date forward
T-Mobile ones are LOCKED.
Both versions will work on Three, but the International version will not work on Telstra

by International I mean the sim-free/unlocked ones from Handtec/Clove etc

Ive asked for clarification of that from wiki mod. I don't see why you couldn't use NextG. Unless the APac model is different from the AU model, they all support the same bands.
Do you know any reason why NextG differs from other 850 networks? Not that I care - Id rather cut my arm off with a rusty saw than go on a telstra plan. Just curious, thats all.

Problem with firmware - showing up as HKG?

Hey guys I have the UK version of G3 its 855 version
I flashed the 10a Europe firmware and in the settings it showed v10a-HKG-XX
Then I redownloaded the europe firmware and it still showed the same
Then I used my IMEI to check which version is for my device and downloaded that and it still says HKG - at the moment it says v10h-HKG-XX
So is this not a UK version phone, i got it from amazon?

If less than 14 days I recommend you contact Amazon customer services and request a replacement. Even if bought from Amazon market place. You may find as I did with a Singapore version I received, that I could not get LTE connectivity. The firmware is tied the IMEI.

Hey Syphern, Sounds like the same one i had. Was it from SkynetShopping [emoji12] saying it was uk version and stock held and sent by Amazon? I had one the other day. Set it up and let it do it's updates then checked the version and it said hkg not eur versions, I also had no 4g.
I called LG support which where very helpful and i told them the imei to which they confirmed it was a none UK handset and would have no warranty cover!
Sent it straight back for refund and went in to Carphone warehouse and got one which is all good. [emoji3]

[Q] LG G4 Sim Free UK - Where best to buy?

I'm thinking of getting the LG G4 Sim Free and want to know where is best to buy in the UK? I want either the black leather preferably or black plastic (not interested in any other options). Amazon doesn't seem to have the black leather and for some reason the black plastic is much more expensive there than the gold. I have seen a website called Handtec that is advertising the black leather at a reasonable price, but I have no previous experience with them. Can anyone recommend them or anywhere else for that matter?
Thanks in advance!
Rumoured that O2 will offer the G4 for approx. £480 on PAYG upon release .
Handtec are a very reliable reseller of Sim Free phones. I have pre-ordered the Red Leather through them.
Hey
I found 2 places selling it unlocked in the UK for around GBP 500
Clove http://www.clove.co.uk/lg-g4
Unlocked Mobiles http://www.unlocked-mobiles.com/sim....html?osCsid=7e0fe5e2647bd589178fc0e3706774cf
I was keeping these as a last resort in case I couldn't find anything in my country.

Thanks, but I'd rather not have one from a network as they will probably put more bloatware on it (I'm not even with O2), plus updates usually come slower through he networks.

Thanks - they do seem to have good reviews. Just a bit worried as I emailed them to see how early they would have stock and they said either the end of May or early June - I need it asap as currently without a phone, so will have to check their stock status daily.

Thanks - Clove don't seem to have great reviews and aren't doing the black leather. Unlocked-mobiles are my alternative to Handtec but again they wouldn't commit to when they could send the phone out.
Guess I'll have to keep checking Handtec and Unlocked-mobiles and see which gets stock first!

Collected my G4 from an O2 shop this afternoon. Does not appear to be SIM locked according to the "SIM Unlock Process" app and I took a screen shot of the software version and the extent of the home screen branding if anyone was interested.

Unfortunately I don't currently have another activated suitably sized SIM to confirm with.
Got one from three retail store for £480 today, they have a big statement on their website saying they don't lock them any more, and people with older handsets can take them in for unlocking.
Anyone got the updated cheapest local price for the LG G4?
I saw some online for £277 via google shopping but from the UK reviews it seems that they're being shipped from overseas.

Android 8.1?

Anyone have any idea or hear any news of when Android 8.1 will be pushed to UK Nokia 6.1? News online 4-5 days ago that it started rolling out OTA in India?

Its annoying. Hopefully get it rolled out ASAP.
Mine is from Carphone Warehouse too. I've tried using a VPN to spoof that I'm in India and France but nothing is coming through.
I'm hoping that 8.1 will allow me to use the more recent Google Pixel camera APKs as I'm currently having to use an ancient one in order for HDR processing to work.

Mine is also TA-1043 version 5
According to https://nokiapoweruser.com/variants-nokia-7-plus-8-sirocco-6-plus-1-emerge-various-certifications/ there are 5 Nokia 6.1 variants : TA-1050, TA-1043, TA-1045, TA-1016, TA-1054
I bought a TA-1043 from amazon.de (shipped to ireland) and i have not gotten the 8.1 upgrade either....
Does anyone know what the difference between the various models (1043 / 1050) is?
I just got the TA-1043 in Hungary from Germany (Amazon) and got 8.1 on first boot.
Anyone with the TA-1050 model got this update yet? I'm not very impressed given my security patch is from the 1st Feb... It's nearly May.
Anyone know what model lauched in USA the other day? Be interesting to see if they also got the update out the box.
Carphone Warehouse have exclusivity in the UK - not sure if my model is 'their' brand and therefore has slowed updates. Bit annoying that the brand new Nokia 6 is behind the old Nokia 6 with updates though - kind of makes me wonder what the real point of Android One is.

Yeah I don't think that makes a difference. They are sim free/unlocked devices.
As an android one phone, the updates are pushed directly from Google OTA (supposedly). Just find it strange that it's still not pushed in the UK.

Considering i have a TA-1043 (same as a user above who also ordered off Amazon Germany but is based in hungary and received the update on first boot), i'm guessing the updates are just country limited. UK/Ireland seem to be down the pecking order.
Has anyone tried connecting over a VPN to do the update (or at least download it)?
I’ve tried. No luck.

you can rebrand your device to another region code. Search for "rebrand [device name]. This is dangerous territory so be sure you really know what you do unless you wanna have a very pretty paper weight.

C782 still on .120
All updates for C782 go through operator approval even if you have bought a SIM free device from Carphone Warehouse. This process takes a long time and if one network rejects the update then will cause further delays.

Are you effectively saying that no networks in the UK have approved the update for their devices and as such everyone is being delayed even though your device is not restricted by carrier bloatware and settings

Correct. C782 is a UK specific firmware that comes on all carrier provided handsets and through retailers like Carphone Warehouse. Huawei no longer provide carrier specific firmware.
C432 EU firmware does not go through any carrier approval, so updates are rolled out quicker. UK updates are provided by Huawei but they have to be approved by the major carriers. Three, Vodafone, EE, O2. Only when they approve firmware will Huawei make it available.
This is why the UK is still on B120 with B150 (build 3rd August) is pending approval. EU meanwhile has seen 3 major updates since B120.
If you have a bootloader unlock code, it's well worth changing your device to C432 so you can get updates quicker, and get away from the BS that plagues the UK update process.

Thanks for the full reply. I never thought that would be the case. I assumed I had purchased a completely 'clean' phone as such and would not have the update issue. In fairness the phone has been performing great but I don't like being left out of all the update goodness that comes along.
Does the c432 latest updates bring much in the way of improvements to the phone and would be worth changing over too?
