Perhaps a simple question - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

This might be a less then educated question however, is there a way to enter an unlock code without using a non carrier specific SIM card. I have a T-Mobile TP2 and have the unlock code for it however, I have no interest or access to another carriers SIM card. I just want to plash ROMS not change providers… The current OS on the device is the TM issued Win Mo 6.5….
Any Help Would Be Appreciated….
Thank You

You must pay for a SIM unlock code, then you can flash another ROM.

you are thinking of a sim unlock not a carrier unlock.
to flash a rom you have to be carrier unlocked and have hard spl. that is totally separate from sim unlocking.

Unlocking Dash via TmobileCustSvc

I called Tmo (USA) and told them that I was travelling to Canada and wanted my SIM unlock code for my Dash. I gave them my IMEI and they emailed me a 8 digit code to unlock the phone. Only problem is that I need the "foreign" SIM to initiate the code entry on the phone according to their instructions (see below). I am wondering if there is another way to do this without the "foreign" SIM because I want to unlock it prior to travelling in fear that I dont want to break/brick my Dash while travelling.
Here is their email to me:
T-Mobile Sim Unlock Request
Sim Unlock Reference: XXXXXXX
IMEI: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Unlock Code: XXXXXXXX
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Below you will see the Instructions for unlocking your HTC device.
1. Insert the foreign SIM card
2. Power on the device and the display should read "Please input unlock code"
3. Enter the unlock code and the device should display "Phone is unlocked."
4. Allow the phone to scan the network (or manually click on the antenna icon to do this)
It is very important that the instructions and SIM unlock code are entered correctly as listed. If you receive an error message while performing the instructions do not make any further attempts to unlock the handset. Please be aware that if an excessive amount of incorrect attempts are made, the phone will be permanently locked. You will need to verify the IMEI by pressing *#06# and contact Customer Care for support.
I saw this file (DASHv2Unlock.zip) from here. Anyone know if the code I got from Tmo will work with the DASH2Unlock program?
Thanks!

Thanks, I try to go to a local Cingular retail store. MOst of my friends use Nextel or Sprint or Tmobile around here. Cingular has terrible coverage in Hawaii.
Sim
You shouldn't need a "foreign sim," but rather any sim that's not on your carrier, then the phone should give you the unlock code prompt. I always keep an old cingular sim around for this purpose.
^ Any SIM other than your carrier's SIM is a foreign one.
~Cheers~
Actually, to unlock the phones you do not even need a foreign sim. You can use your T-Mobile SIM. They just tell you that so you can make sure it's working

Thanks for the laugh
Yep, fairly easy. As soon a TMo emailed me my unlock code, I borrowed a coworker's cingular sim card and took all of 30 seconds total.

Could have taken 15 seconds if you didn't swap SIMs

When TMo unlocks??
When you have TMo unlock the phone for you is the SIM unlocked and the CID unlocked also? Or do I have to use the website everyone has mentioned to get both things unlocked?

Help! Entering TMO USA TP2 SIM Unlock code, where do I enter it?

Guys I'm over in Europe and attempting to use a vodaphone SIM, I'm running NRG's ROM and radio 4.49.25.17.
T-Mobile had kindly provided the SIM unlock code for my TP2 prior to my trip but when I put in the Vodaphone SIM it doesn't prompt me for an unlock code?
Do I need to manually enter it somewhere?
I think its supposed to prompt you with a screen asking for the code, make sure the Vodafone sim is properly inserted and if that doesn't work you can try looking up the phones engineering mode.
Is the device booting into Windows Mobile & usable with the other SIM card installed? Where did you buy it? Sounds like it may be unlocked already. Anytime I put the wrong SIM in a locked device, on boot up I would get a message for the unlock code & device was unusable, would not progress past this screen. You had to either enter the unlock code or reset & remove the SIM card.
First, check if your device is unlocked by going to Start>Settings>System>Device Info and on one of the tabs, it should say unlocked somewhere. Or, you can check it by downloading ATCommander onto your device and entering [email protected]?40 into ATCommander. It should return 0 if you're unlocked. If it returns 1, you're SIM locked.
Now, if you are still locked, try flashing the Stock Tmobile USA ROM, and insert the Vodafone SIM then. Hopefully, a dialog should come up with an area to enter you unlock code. On the Kaiser, you supposedly had to be running the stock AT&T ROM in order to get the dialog unlock the device with an unlock code. Hopefully that will work. If not, TMobile tech support could probably answer this. Hope that helps

Unlock Tilt2 SIM after having flashed ROM?

Is it possible to use the ATT&T unlock code and procedure on a Tilt2 that has already been flashed with Energy ROM?
If you already flashed a cooked ROM (Like Energy´s) it means your Rhodium is already unlocked
So no need to do it again, now you can flash any ROM (stock or cooked) you want!
Don´t forget to vote!
yes, the ROM is unlocked. But I am asking about the SIM. When the SIM is unlocked then you can use the phone on any carrier, not just AT&T.
Sorry, misunderstood
I would assume so, just get the code and put in a foreign SIM card and it should ask you for the unlock code which you then enter.
I can't imagine changing the software will change the code which is always the same and based on the IMEI.
Which is why with the older phones, it was easy to crack the algorithm, now a days they have made it harder but I guess it is still possible. Mostly these days the cracks come from sniffing the code out using software on the device (you couldn't flash old Nokia's, so you had to break the algorithm) or buy injecting a hack (like the iPhone's unlock) that hides the real unlock hardware/radio/software and just always responds unlocked.
Thankx for the clear answer. I received the unlock code from AT&T and when I am in the foreign country and put the foreign SIM in, then I'll keep my fingers crossed that the phone will ask me to input the code.

You can unlock it now. Just get a T-mobile SIM and put it in your AT&T Tilt2. It'll boot up and ask for your unlock code.

Does HardSPL and flashing a new rom unlock the phone?

Forgive me, I couldnt find the answer to this question.
If it doesnt, what is the best way to do it!
Thanks!

Yes, sorry
There are various sites that will give you the unlock code which is based on your IMEI number, but you shoudl be able to contact the carrier that branded the device and ask them for the unlock code. Then just put the SIM card you want to use in the phone and turn it on, you will get a Network is locked message with a box for you to enter the unlock code you got from the branded carrier.

I havent been able to get an unlock code since the 90's - I use Tmobile and they wouldnt even consider doing it.
If you are unable to obtain the unlock code from T-Mobile then you may want to check this thread:

Do I need for unlock code from T-Mobile before start flashing unbranded or any ROM?

Just got a new TP2 from TMO and woul d like to learn how to flash. But now the phone is unlock and I haven't got the unlock code yet. What can I do without the unlock code?
The "unlock code" you're speaking of is a SIM unlock code, which is irrelevant when flashing ROMs. SIM unlock doesn't matter with custom ROMs. Rather, you need to HardSPL your device before you can flash unofficial ROMs. Please see the Flashing Your First GSM Rhodium ROM (For Noobs) thread for more information on ROM flashing.

So I can try HardSPL now and all other ROMs and apply the sim unlock code later once I get it from T-mobile? Won't cause any problem for unlocking?
Thanks.
That's kind of tricky, actually. While the SIM unlock code is not related to flashing custom ROMs, the carrier provided codes may require you to be on the carrier's ROM when using the code, as the methods for entering the code into the device are often specific to that carrier's ROM. Until you get the code, I would recommend waiting to flash a custom ROM. You can still HardSPL your device, I just wouldn't change the ROM. It won't cause problems if you change ROMs, but you'll likely have to change back to the T-Mobile ROM in order for the code to be entered properly and unlock the device. After you unlock with T-Mobile's code you can change ROMs and still be SIM unlocked. Or, if you don't want to wait for the code at all, there's an unlocking service run by two of the most well respected Windows Mobile hackers which costs €14 (roughly $18), and can be found here.

Thank you. I will wait until I get the code before doing anything else then, to be on the safe side.
