I got a string from the above thread "KLM\Drivers\BuiltIN\RIL\ALSService"
Where it is used to hide the multiline icon on taskbar, however, it gets reset on each reboot and i had to manually change it again.
Is there a way to create a file that would change this string automatically on boot, preferably in silent mode, via a mortscript or something? any help would be great! thanks in advance!

I wrote an app (WifiNoStandby, in my sig) that does exactly that, but with the registry value that determines whether wifi should turn off when the phone is in standby.
I'll modify it, with your required registry info and post the exe on here. It makes a tiny exe, and you just copy it into your startup folder so it runs when WM runs.
I'm at work for the next 6-7 hours, so expect it not long after that. It literally is a 2 min job, so I'll do it as soon as I get home.
Let me know if you get a fix between now and then
Okay, so I got a lunch hour today... Yay!
Unzip the attached file and copy the exe into \Windows\Startup\. Then just restart your device

I discovered that by fiddling around with this file (found in the /windows folder, you can quickly change the keymappings in the beta version. For example, I've only done a quick test, but I remapped the '%" symbol on the Q to be a "!" when alt is pressed or a long press is done. This worked in both Outlook and Word on my test. No reboot was needed BTW.
So if you haven't yet, check it out. I'm surprised it's this easy. What's the catch?
Does this mean that WM6 *will* have T9 on it?
(Pls. excuse my stupidity, but I have an O2 Cosmo (pretty much an Excalibur) and it does hot have currently T9 or XT9 or anything. And I can not reprogram it to access accented characters (which I am dying for).

This was the solution I have been looking for now for a long time.
Thanks a million for the tip gadgetshrink.
But this does not work for the standard, preinstalled WM5, does it?
Just out of interest, what is the format/syntax of that file?

It's a normal .txt file
Yes, but what I wanted is its syntax (what is in it and what does thet mean), in the hope that I discover similar files on the standard version.
There are actually some files in \windows that might contain key-codes. such as this file:
SymPad0407.txt
with content such as
...
00A7
00A8
00A9
00AA
00AB
00AC
....
which looks like key-codes to me. But I do not know, what to do with it.
Can someone help?

I am trying to edit this file but when I put it back on the phone it says I do not have enough permissions.
My phone is 100% unlocked.
I have disabled 'read only' and still can't do it.
I am using Vista if that is where the problem is.

That's because the file is in ROM. But if you use TotalCmd CE (www.ghisler.com) you can. At least I can on my HTC Universal which otherwise has the same problem.
Yes I had problem with Vista in modifying this file
I was able to change this file using XP
I installed the WM6 Black, and my keyboard is not inputing the right chars...I tried the RegEdit fix but nothing. I am trying to revert to the factory Cingular settings and I am using RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2_1_.06.502.3_6275_1.33.31.00_108_Ship.exe. I keep on getting update error message. I have no idea what to do...Please help me. I am getting very frustrated with this thing. I looked at the Wiki and I see nothing regarding my question. Same thing for the forum.
Thank you in advance.
I had this with my T-Mobile ROM, the .exe file expands the files into a temp directory, the only one you need is the .NBH.
1. Copy this file to your storage card and rename it 'HERMIMG.nbh'.
2. Plug device into mains charger.
3. Push & Hold the side 'OK' and 'Power' buttons.
4. Reset the device.
5. Your now in bootloader.
6. Holding the 'Reset' button with the other two will make the device search for and run the HERMIMG.nbh file.
7. Make a coffe or something... (It takes about 25 minutes).

This is the quickest fix I have read about. Works with out a hitch for everyone who has done it.
Cool. I m happy I can finally do this. Although I would like to fix the keyboard instead...Anyways what solution do you guys know of that will fix the keyboard? Also where can I get that .nbh file?
Thanks a lot!!!
You can either use WinRAR to unpack it or if you run the .exe it will unpack to '\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temp'.
I would suggest going back to this ROM as a diagnostic tool to make sure the keyboard isn't faulty...Just make sure you upgrade to SPL 1.35 Olipro first as this makes your phone almost unbrickable in future! If you do brick it so either your stuck in bootloader mode or the OS won't start follow the above instructions...
Well, I know for sure that my keyboard was working perfectly fine before doing the WM6 rom. I have tried fooling around in the Registry...didn't make it worse, but didn't make it better either. What values do you guys have for the qwerty in the registry? Also is there a program that will let you program what key gets what symbol?
I know I am trying to decide between factory, or trying to fix this keyboard characters mix up...
Thanks again.
Not to over-simplify, but what phone are you using? If it's the 8525, there's a CAB file to remap the keys to right places... just search for 8525 keyboard fix.

Here is keyboard .cab file fix.
Thank you very much guys. I solved the issue. The fix I ended up using was; going to my local Cingular store and beaming a reg editor into the live 8525 they have there, and looking at the registry where the qwerty is located the hexadecimal value on it is 40409 (located @ local machine/software/oem/qwerty/). Please let others know about this fix for the Cingular 8525.
Also thanks a million to those who actually put a linky and not just say there is something somewhere...
Thanks again,

I would like to get my hands on these images too. The way I have been doing it is flash back to the original ROM, once stock flash the radio back to the new version you want, then flash the OS to the new ROM version. You have to pick a rom that doesn't touch the splash though. Only went through that PITA once. It would be nice in case a Cingular Rep ever got their hands on it.
Here are the Boot Splashes

Yeah thats the one. Can I just drop and replace this one?
from the FAQ:
Code:
Disable/change the startup animation or sound
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation
Enabled - change from 1 to 0 to turn everything off and permanently fix the volume issue.
You can also customize the animated boot up by deleting or changing 2 keys. (Doing this does not fix the volume issue)
Delete the WAVFile Key to remove the sound only.
Delete the GIFFile Key to remove the animation only.
Put your own .GIF file or .WAV file on the phone and rewrite the 2 keys (WAVFile GIFFile) to the new file location. i.e. \My Documents\Files\CustomAnimation.gif
The Gif key portion was where this .gif was linked on the original. Place it somewhere and change that key.

I put the entries in as above and it did not work. I ended up using the one w/o animation. I have a feeling you only have the registry entries there to be modified if you have an OEM ROM.
I have a feeling there are a few more registery entries in there then he wrote in there - would like to see a reg dump (at least of that section). There are also probably some .DLL's or other files we need to fully get it running! Maybe I'll dump a Cingular rom later to see if I don't see anything obvious I'm assuming this is in the new Cingular rom?
Yes, should even be in the one before it since when I bought my phone about 2 months ago it was animated as well.
So far from the digging, the Registry entries are:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation]
"Volumn"=dword:10
"WAVFile"="\\Windows\\3G_Up.wav"
"GIFFile"="\\Windows\\3G Up_01_1.gif"
"Enabled"=dword:1
I've not yet found any other entries related to it on a quick pass through. The animated gif and sound file I have attached but I have not yet got it to work. I did notice there is no welcomehead.96.png and I wonder if it the existence of that file on my current rom has anything to do with it. I've not been able to delete the file (part of the rom) to see if it would have any effect. This is about as much as I'll be able to figure out for right now at any rate. If anybody else has any ideas as to enabling it (is there a .DLL that needs to be loaded? Part of me wonders if there is a command to execute it built into the bootsplash within the section that is usually added as padding? Just some brainstorming.

You can delete the welcomehead.96.png by getting another file browser (like Resco Explorer or Total Commander) and changing the file permission.

are you meaning when the phone boots? You might be able to do that with mortscripts, check the threads out, and use the search link below!
The easiest way would be to just drop the shortcut in Windows>startup.
Thanks for all
i have downloaded mortscript, when i will have time i will try, and if i will have a success i will inform you

It would be much easier to copy the file or program you want, and then go into Windows then StartUp, and then "Paste Shortcut" it, and restart.
After that, you'll notice that the application will be running in the background.

what about programs that don't auto-minimize? for instance, Gentimer 2.x starts up on boot due to me putting the *.lnk to it in the startup folder. However, it boots and runs, yes, but it doesn't automatically minimize to background, and I have to manually press end to get it down. How to do this with those "special" programs?

Change the shortcut would be the easy way. If you have no LNK file (since on a BJII its a long press) I would search the reg to find the Tasksmgr value thats called by the long press then change it there.
Or the sneaky way, rename celetask to Tasksmgr and see if that works

So did renaming it work at all man? I am just curious.
I'm trying to find the reg key first, give me a sec
I found this:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\TaskMgr\
Value Name:

Value Data:

Rename the exe file
I tried changing the "Task Manager.Ink" to "CeleTask.Ink" and that did not work it just launched the Task Manager
Think your best bet is waiting for NRG to come online or send him a PM asking for detailed instructions of what you have to do?
Going to be hard for any of us as we wont have the same reg.
Another way is just to set up space to open up CeleTask with SmartToolKit for now untill you get the answer.

Sounds like you did it backwards from what Bupahs told you. Go to Windows folder and find task manager exe file. Rename it to taskmanagerbackup.exe. Now rename your celetask.exe to taskmanager.exe(make sure its exactly the same as the original was named to start with) and place it in windows. This way when any link goes to open taskmanager, it will open(thinking its taskmanager) the newly renamed celetask(which is now taskmanager.exe). Might need a soft reset for good measure.
thanks so much, I'll try it right now, you see I was confused, lol, but I appreciate your advice, thanks

If your just trying to remap this to celetask, then go in registry here:
\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSTASKMGR\1
Change that to Celetask.exe, if its in windows then thats all you need to enter, if its in program files, then put \Program Files\Celetask.exe
After changing you will have to do a soft reset. I tried that and changed long press of home key to file explorer. I have bj1, not sure if bj2 has it mapped to a key and thats what your trying to change, but if it is then this will work.
thanks showaco, I tried that and it points exactly to what you're saying but for some reason it didn't update to celetask.exe, how funny is that ?
