QUESTION: Windows 7 - Windows Phone 7 General

I just bought a HD2 knowing Windows 7 will not officially be supported on this device due to hardware requirements (too many buttons?) . I'm sure there will be many others with winmo that would like a look at Windows 7 but have older devices. Do you think the devs here will make roms with it for our devices?

All you need to know regards your question can be found in these threads

[Q] Has anyone managed to cook a WP 7 ROM for the Dell Streak?

Hi,
Has anyone had any luck cooking a WP 7 ROM for the Dell Streak? If not, is it difficult? Which current WP 7 platform will have the closest hardware to the Dell Streak? I presume that ROM is which a developer would begin working off from as a baseline.
Any info is most appreciated...
Thanks!
No one has ported WP7 to ANY device. WP7 has not been ported, and honestly I would be willing to bet my right arm that it will never be ported to the Streak, nor any other Android phone.
Hahahaha...I wont mock I asked lots of questions like that...no, not likely ever, no...how about Galaxy S
from what i've heard, the OS itself ties to the phone with a unique serial, so I'm not too sure if we'll ever see it.

[Q] Windows Phone 7

Has anyone tried to port over the windows phone 7 os to android? I believe it can be done seeing as though they ported android over to the HD2.
This belongs in Q&A.
There is a new UI that emulates the Windows 7 Phone on the android phones. But over all why would you want to go backwards, to what is history and should be dead.

It is unlikely that we will see a port of WP7 to Android due to licensing issues. Android porting to other devices does not have this restriction as it is open source. Hope this helps.
BTW, there is a Q&A section which is best suited for these kinds of general questions. You're new though, so I don't see any reason to be a **** to you just for posting in the wrong session. Perhaps people can grow up a little bit around here and stop being so rude...

[Q] Is anyone working towards Android on WP7 devices?

I am surprised about the lack of Android development for WP7 devices considering that most of xda is dedicated to bring Android to devices.
Given that most WP7 devices have identical hardware to their Android counterparts,
Desire HD -> HD7
Galaxy S-> Focus/Omnia 7
etc
it should be a fairly simple job for the experienced people here?
Please read the stickys. Thread closed. I know you don't mean bad with this question but it has been asked time after time and it has just to much work involved to accomplish this ATM. Just becaude the HW matches doesnt mean they run the same.

Please search before you post next time. This question is literally asked on every board for every new device. Theoretically Yes it is possible but reality is no dev would do it because they would get sued into oblivion by Microsoft. Windows is not open sourced like ubuntu or android. In order to port windows over legally they would have to get a license to port him and pay royalties to MS

Not even possible. Windows RT has specific bootloader hardware requirements (I forget its name) add to that it is not open source so would need to be hacked together. You might be able to get windows phone to work but again, not open source so lawsuits would ensue.
On a side note why would you want windows rt on here? Windows RT is useless, cant run normal windows apps, and windows staore has less apps then android. Windows is going to release office for android next uear ( or so they claim) so not much need for windows RT on the Note 2.

The only time i've ever heard about Microsofts latest OS's getting ported to a non approved device was the HD2, and as far as I'm aware nobody is getting sued over there. And the only reason the HD2 got WP7 was because it was used as a test device.. I haven't heard anything about it being ported to other devices that have a lot in common (EVO 4G, Nexus One, HTC Desire, etc)
If it could be ported to an android device it will probably be done. but it will need to run the exact same hardware. and even then i still doubt it will happen.

The reason behind that is HD2 was a windows mobile device. It was based on winCE kernels and other devices were based on android Os which is based on Linux kernels.

Indeed. Similar to this was the Toshiba TG01, which also runs WP7. It is a native WM6 device with a 1GHz CPU, 512MB ROM, and 256MB RAM.
Thanks for the replies guys. I appreciated the useful information. Oh, and I did do a search.. There was nothing in this forum in reference to W8 being put onto this device. Sorry if I offended.

With the release of the new Verison with Windows

When the Windows phone version gets released, Does anyone know if it's possible to try a Windows Rom out on are android versions of the HTC One M8 ?
Pff can people please stop making these threads and use the existing windows topic threads !!! It's getting a bit boring now......

Anything is possible. I've read the HW specs are the same. The problem may lie in the fact that Windows is not open source and each device it's on needs a license agreement. Not that that will stop anyone but if you get caught you might spend some vacation time at the Grey Bar Motel.
This is why I decided to stay with Android and the open source community. I want to control my device, after all I paid $600 for it I should be able to do what I want. Windows, although pretty closed, is no where near the control Apple has over it's users. I wouldn't touch an Apple product with a 79 1/2 foot long pole.
Thread Closed - This is Android Development subforums. Windows development should be discussed in the Windows development subforum. See Mr. Hofs link above.
