Same observations:
I have tried with vista ultimate final (msdn) with windows mobile device center beta-3 (because vista have'nt any activesync-like program) -vista can't recognise Universal in bootloader mode.
I found a resolution: format c: and reinstall any xp. (Or buy a second PC with xp)
Vista can't recognise the Uni, oh the irony.
M$ used the Uni as the showpiece for their all singing all dancing WM5 platform didn't they?

perhaps you can use the search function next time, there are a few more topics about this problem
How can we flash new ROM's onto the Universal in Windows Vista? I tried flashing PDAViet 2.00.04 to my Universal and recieved a 101 connection error. I went to the activesync website and it wouldnt install because it said that windows vista already has some tool that has outdated activesync.... well why isnt it working then?
on vista there's no more activesync but Mobile device Center
http://www.laboratoire-microsoft.org/whitepapers/17844/
Nope tried that. Wasnt working although just now I have just flashed PDAViet ROM on my Universal. Windows detects it fine and even sync's with it.
I have just tried Helmi's AKU 3.5 again and it flashed fine.
Once you've got WMDC up and runnign the sync works fine (even office 2007! Woohoo) but icant flash anything and have to use my old XP machien to do it on!
Maybe it depends on the version of the no-id flasher you use?
I tried to flash the device while in bootloader mode and wouldnt work. Does anyone know why sometimes your device remains in bootloader mode even after a soft reset? Its like there wasn't any ROM on the device? Even after a hard reset the device wont go out of the bootloader mode.
I couldnt flash My Universal, using WMDC in vista RTM. It simply doesnt work, i heard, and i think it does make sence, that the Actual Rom Update utilities are simply uncompatible with Vista. I think we will have to wait until Vista is Oficialy releast, wich is not that far away. But then, i think we will also have to wait till one of our Providers will release a new ROM, with a new Update Utility.

That happened to me as well on a numerous ocasions, its really annoying. I didnt really mind though, coz i was about to flash it anyway, and then it always got back to normal.
I dont know what to say... just be careful with what you are doing.

I´m using the Vista Business Version (Final).
My Universal would not sync so i downloaded and installed this:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6a-a72d-4aef-9663-31ce2fefbada&DisplayLang=en
Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center Beta 3 for Windows Vista (x86)
It´s working now.
I have that installed too. It was installed during a Auto-update. Still wont update the device while in bootloader mode.
There is no driver in vista that presents the device as \\.\WCEUSBSH001 device. So the upgrade utilities cannot communicate with it.
I've tried to use the drivers from XP64, but they don't work (i'm using 64-bit vista enterprise).
not yet
I tried using Vista Ultimate x64, but no way using Windows Mobile Device Center beta 4. Xp still better for flashing devices, maybe in a few weeks we are going to test new dev tools.
heyy ppl i can't upgrade/flash my universal rom's in vista as well :-( i just upgraded my laptop to vista ultimate and well, i had downgraded my phone from AKU 3.5 to an orange branded latest rom from Orange website, now i wanna flash it to Crossbow but vista won't let me..maybe the developers here can cook something up for flashing in vista ? Anybody ?

I still try to solve this issue.
If you find any information about it, please tell me, thanks.
Of course, I will tell you if I solve it.
I previously flashed my Vario II using my laptop which runs XP. But I was wondering if the latest version of SyncCenter for Vista (I'm running 32 bit Ultimate) can flash without added drivers?
Cheers.
Bobby
Yeah, that would be interesting to know.
I upgraded 2 days ago to Vista Business and installed the lates Windows Mobile Device Center.
I've read the guide from Mr Vanx about the different Drivers, but is this still necessary?
I actually was able to flash using Vista without doing anything special. I just clicked the file and away it went. I did maybe 3 cooked roms and the latest AT&T rom four times without any issues.
If you have WMDC 6.1 installed, you should be able to flash fine

I've got vista withouth WMDC and I'm able to flash okay too.
So there is nothing needed anymore, just plug it in and flash away.

the drivers mrvanx mentions are not necessary for WMDC 6.1 but are necessary for WMDC 6!!
When installing WMDC 6.1, uninstall the previous version, connect phone, then install and it will install a new set of drivers for the phone.
one thing to note tho, when flashing with vista the only way i get it to work is to use this SPL : 2.10.Olipro (HardSPL v7), already have the phone in bootloader (3 colour bars) then plug into usb, then when flashing select the options in the screen shot, then flash. (to be honest i dont select the "is it Hard-SLP?" box and i never have a problem, but i dnt want to be blamed for anyone screwing up theri phone!!)
I noticed particular that running hard SPL on Win 7 was ok. I was just wondering if flashing on Win 7 was ok too?
The reason I ask is that I remember when Vista first came out flashing was troublesome on it and really not recommended because of the plumbing changes in the OS. Is all that not an issue now that we are many years into Vista and Win 7 being very close in plumbing?
Thanks.
I personally flash the NRG roms on windows 7 and had no problem up to now
No problem here!
And I'm one of those crazies that flashes every few days!
No Problems here !! Just to be on the safe side though I click the properties of the file and run it in XP mode Service pack 2. That's just me though.
Ok, thanks guys. I keep a copy of XP running just for flashing out of paranoia. I guess those issues have been worked out then..what ever they were.
I always flash from SD card - it's safer!
I have no successes flashing my Tilt2 using Windows 7. I have followed all steps outlined it all forums and still no luck. I have flashed to at least 4 different ROM's and all (and I mean ALL) radios and i have no luck. My issues are the following:
No data connection.
No phone reception.
Constantly crashing and frizzing.
I just did an experiment on my laptop that has XP loaded on it and I have absolutely no problems.
Is there anything that i am missing on the Windows 7 setup and how to flash my phone using it?????
Any help will do.
Thank you
Do you realize that Windows 7 does not support Activesync like XP does. You need Windows Mobile Device Center.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx
Observe the bit or bit versions.
Hope that helps.
I did this and my problem still exist. Like i said i have read all instructions of how to flash cooked ROM's using Windows 7.
I followed all steps that OliNex had outlined and no close but no cigar.
I won't be mean but there are several threads about Windows 7. You didn't need to start a new one.
I use W7 and it works great. Or at least it worked for the 43 ROMs I have flashed so far. Just possibly it is a user error?
